Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
Could purchase a ring of substance and then Polli could work through the night! Nope, Polli like sleep, so that isn't happening.
The +4 puts it out of Polli's reach I think. I think at least that the additions are counted like the normal enhancement cap of 3 times her caster level.
Valeria Korvin
I could be mistaken, but I believe each enchantment like brawling or agile has its own CL requirement and does not count against the CL requirement for the enhancement bonus.
Also... I could switch to just buying a +1 resistance item to clear some room in the queue but we're going to have to prioritize here or half our window will be gone before we even start... Does Dony have any crafting feats of her own? Maybe we could speed things up by you two crafting separate items at the same time (although I know that might eat into your foreplay a bit)? Edit: Nevermind, I just checked her sheet and it doesn't look like she has any.
Marisan Nkosi
Brawling has a CL 9th requirement so I think Polli could do it? Either way Marisan will just spend the cash so she doesn’t have to wait on the enchantment.
Valeria Korvin
This wasn’t on my shopping list but if it’s ok I’d like to have picked up a black leather skirt in port that I’ll be wearing instead of my pants most of the time? I know that with my hat my clothes sort of change shape to accommodate my new form but I feel like if/when I take forms with a tail it would look and feel better to have it hanging out my skirt instead of the back of my pants stretching down so it can pop out the top. Plus, Val’s been feeling a little bit more girly lately.
Valeria Korvin
Wow, its been almost 2 months since anyone posted in discussion! Val has been leveled. Mostly it was boring stuff (+7 hp, +1 BAB, +1 Ref, +1 to all the same skills); she also learned protection from evil (and gained another 1st level spell/day).
The big thing though, is that I have telepathy now! Well, sort of... I got solo tactics and took bonded mind for my bonus teamwork feat. So... as long as we can see each other, I can send you all messages without any pointing or whispering or anything. You can't send messages to each other at all, or to me normally, but when I send a message (since it works as the spell) you can think a response to me and I'll 'hear' it.
If there are no objections, I'd like to denote telepathic communication in gameplay by using bold tags but replacing quotes with double plus signs, in order to be consistent with other games I'm involved with.
So, this would be thinking...
"This would be speaking..."
++And this would be a telepathic message.++
Is that ok with everyone?
Valeria Korvin
If you're ok with me doing it 'wrong' but consistent, I'll go with that (my fear is that if I do it one way here and another in the other game I'll end up doing both wrong half the time).
Donomsail Lishoni
I have no telepathy so...meh, whatever. Seriously though as long as it is consistent I am fine with whatever you are comfortable with, thanks for explaining your method.
Valeria Korvin
Well part of the reason I brought it up here is because now everyone in the game has a very limited telepathy- you can all respond telepathically to me when I think something to you...
Marisan Nkosi
Brawler 10
+8 HP
+1 Fort, +1 Reflex
+1 BA
Martial flexibility +1/day, free action, 3 feats
Sparring partners 2/day
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Polli, fighter level 1
bonus feat: power attack
skills:crap cause she's a fighter... um, ride?
:)
nope, boring repetitive wizard level 10
new feat though, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! lets her use her intelligence instead of strength on CMD and CMB and for normal strength checks like opening doors. I love the idea of Polli of the average noodle arms being able to break down a door as well as Marisan :) though Marisan does it with style where Polli has to grab a lever, study the thing for structural weaknesses and Then finally get down to it.
More important, maybe she won't be grappled as easily next time.
new spells, at level 5: dismissal, echolocation, and Walk the Plank (create pit but filled with sharks! probably sucks but sounds so cool)
lots of skill increases and learned Undercommon as a language
Oh and she can now cast flight on herself at will, her feet will never touch the ground again.
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
her spells for the day, the best she can do for ghost protection
. . 5th—dismissal (DC 22), echolocation[UM], lightning arc[UM] (DC 24), wall of force
. . 4th—ball lightning[APG] (DC 23), controlled fireball[UI] (2, DC 23), dimension door (2)
. . 3rd—dispel magic, fireball (DC 22), fly, haste, slow (DC 20), water breathing
. . 2nd—burning arc (2, DC 21), detect thoughts (DC 19), levitate, protection from arrows, raiment of command (DC 19), spider climb
. . 1st—mage armor, magic missile (3), protection from evil (2), windy escape[ARG]
. . 0 (at will)—detect magic, disrupt undead, drench[UM] (DC 17), read magic
She will cast mage armor and protection from evil on Dony. Plus protection from evil on herself.
Valeria Korvin
I can cast protection from evil up to 4 times, so I could cover everyone except Polli and Dony. If they cast it on each other, then Polli could afford 2 mage armors (one for each of them)?
And if Dony could trap Marisan, Tessa, and I inside an ectoplasmic wall bubble with the ghost we should be able to make short work of it?
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
Just got to keep it from possessing one of us.
Valeria Korvin
Did Dony burn up her leftover spells last night healing us or are we still down hp?
I'm adding what I get back from a night's sleep now and I'll add the rest back if/when I get the go ahead.
GM Itzi
Ok, well sadly it looks as if Marisan will be leaving the Sirens at the end of this book. That will create the relatively simple question of do we continue with five PCs (which is entirely doable), or do we look for a replacement.
And less simply, this is kind of the AP equivalent of the Seventh-Inning Stretch, I thought that I would officially check in with everyone else and get feedback as to how they feel about the game so far.
Hopefully you're all still playing because you're enjoying the game. It's conceivable, though, that you're not really enjoying it any more, but hope that it'll get back to what you like. Or, perhaps, you're still playing simply because of inertia. Let me know; you won't hurt my feelings.
What things about the game so far have you really enjoyed and want to see more of? What things did you not like and would rather see less of? Not enough combat? Too much combat? RP? More? Less? More NPCs? Less NPCs? More 'Mature' content? Less?
Let me know either here or in Discord. If you're worried about what the other players might say then DM me either through the forums or through Discord. I'm considering applying major changes to the next two books, but I'd really like to know what people are likely to enjoy before doing so. Particularly if you're familiar with Books 5 and 6, what would you like to see changed?
I want this to be a game we all have fun with so I'll appreciate any feedback you can give me.

To fully renovate the fort, the PCs must spend at least 10 points of plunder, plus the cost of any siege engines they wish to mount in the fort. Building a suitable harbor requires an additional 5 points of plunder. A successful DC 30 Craft (carpentry), Craft (stonemasonry), or similar skill check can reduce each of these costs by 1 point of plunder. If the PCs successfully cured Ederleigh Baines’s insanity, his extensive knowledge of the fort reduces the cost by another 1 point of plunder. If the PCs befriended the nereid Sefina, her aid reduces the cost of building a dock by 1 point of plunder as well.
Failure to rebuild the fort or construct a dock has a negative impact on the PCs’ efforts to impress their guests.
Hosting the feast itself requires a minimum of 5 points of plunder to purchase food, drink, and entertainment. If the PCs hire Audessa and her courtesans to prepare the food and drink, and provide service and entertainment during the feast, reduce the cost by 2 points of plunder.
Arbiter of the Tower
So... that’s 20 point of plunder total to start...
I think Audessa and the the girls already agreed to help with the banquet to thank us for freeing them, right? So, that brings it down to 18.
Harm’s math assumed we were getting Ederleigh healed, so that would drop it to 17.
I believe the captains are actively trying reconcile (and/or hook up with) Sefina, so assuming they’re successful, that would get us down to 16.
I think we only have 15 points of plunder right now... so to finish everything we’d need to either go find some more plunder or we’d need Polli to make a DC 30 carpentry check (which she probably won’t be able to take 20 on). If we do need to gather more plunder, we could go old school and just grab some merchant ship, or we could do some more exploring. Unless it was referring to the cyclops village that we already sacked, there were rumors we heard before coming about ruins in the mountains there full of treasure (but were guarded by dinosaurs, iirc); we could check that out?
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
Polli's carpentry skill is +19, and if she casts crafter's fortune it will be +24, so if that is acceptable she can take ten.
Valeria Korvin
So, obviously fixing everything is going to dramatically change how much we each get, but it sounds like we have a plan and (as long as the captains get/keep Sefina friendly with us) we can pull it off with 15 points of plunder?
Harmony Mai d'Valois
By my current sheet we only have 13 plunder. Unless I've missed some? We had 3 lying around and got 10 out of the cache we found. Might need to send some people out 'pirating' :)
If the rest of us aid Polli and push the result over 40, maybe that earns us a bonus 1BP for beating the check by 10?
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
PLunder can be purchased for 1000 per point.
Valeria Korvin
Wow... I just now realized that I accidentally posted from one of my GM aliases yesterday. Sorry about that!
It looks like we can try one check for the fort and another for the docks... if Polli is allowed to roll both that would drop us to only needing 14 points of plunder, so we'd just have to buy (or commandeer) 1 more point. Although... knowing nothing about any mechanics that might be involved, I'm not opposed to investing something extra in the party? If Polli is feeling better by then, maybe she could teleport out some entertainment or something (musicians, sultry dancers, some of Audessa's hospitable friends), and I'm sure nobody would complain if we overspent on food and booze? I feel like an extra-extravagant party would be pretty 'on-brand' for us?
Edit: it looks like we still have 70-80 days before the feast? With that amount of time we can explore some more off the beaten path, do some ‘fund raising’ in the shipping lanes if we need to, and make all kinds of preparations! How much would it cost to get an animal trainer out here to train a couple of the triceratops to pull carriages?
Donomsail Lishoni
As of right now I have no internet please bot me as necessary.
Valeria Korvin
I am on the mend, thank you. Still feeling pretty run down, but I'm getting there. Val is leveled up; here are the highlights.
+1 BAB, +7 hp, +1 fort/will
+1 rank to bluff, fly, intimidate, perception, sense motive, stealth
+1 rank to linguistics and profession [sailor] (learned celestial)
+2 2nd level spells/day (learned focused scrutiny and resist energy)
+1 use of judgment/day
blessed infiltration (roll twice and take better on bluff/diplomacy/stealth, 4/day)
feat: angel wings (natural fly speed of 30, average maneuverability)
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
Level 11 wizard get level SIX spells... true seeing, chain lightning, and disintegrate. Iron will for the feat cause I don't want her to go mad again (plus it worked with her speech). Skills all over the place. +26 intimidate is nice. Harmony nows has a better knowledge arcana roll than she does... sadly :(
Linguistics went up, so she learned Tien so she can understand Harmony's cursing.
Um... that's it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
24 Intelligence, 11 ranks in the skill, the foundation of knowledge for her class...
and the bard accidentally knows more than she does.
LOL, I love it.

You can either attempt to hire mercenary squadrons or recruit existing allies into your fleet. Both methods of building a fleet are detailed below. The maximum number of squadrons your fleet can contain is 4 + the Charisma bonus of whomever is placed in charge as Admiral.
Mercenary Squadrons
Hiring a squadron of mercenaries requires at least one PC to spend 1d4 days in a port no smaller than a large town (with a minimum population of 2,001) — smaller settlements simply don’t have enough mercenaries to round out an entire squadron of ships without several weeks, or even months, of work. Only five settlements in the Shackles meet this requirement: Drenchport, Hell Harbor, Ollo, Port Peril, and Quent, effectively giving you a total of five opportunities to recruit mercenaries.
Recruiting mercenaries requires a Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidate check — additional PCs can aid another with DC 10 checks of their own to help the primary recruiter’s
check. The exact skill used to hire a mercenary sqaudron makes little difference — stats for squadrons that are tricked, sweet-talked, or press-ganged into service are all essentially the same. The DC to recruit a mercenary squadron is 30. Failure brings no penalty other than time wasted.
A mercenary squadron expects to be paid for their work. Hiring a mercenary squadron also involves paying for a significant part of the ships as well, be it repair work, bribes to the owners, or the outright purchase of ships. Paying for a mercenary squadron isn’t cheap — it costs either 25,000 gp or 25 points of plunder. A mercenary squadron remains part of a fleet only until the first significant battle — if the PCs wish to keep that fleet for a later battle, they must pay the squadron’s cost again.
Allied Squadrons
There are also potential allies that may be called upon to join your fleet:
Merrill Pegsworthy
Pierce Jerrell
Sandara Quinn

Sorry!
I don't know if I made a post and the boards ate it, or if I marked it done in my head even though it wasn't, but whatever happened I was positive I posted here on Friday. I'll get a post up for real in just a couple minutes.
Also, I think my AC is 26 right now? Protection from evil raises my deflection bonus by 1 (+2 from the spell instead of +1 from my ring) and haste gives me another +1. In case that affects how much damage I just took at all.
Valeria Korvin
Big shake up at work today. I might be slow to post for the next day or two. Please bot me if necessary.
Valeria Korvin
Another hectic day today, and tomorrow. Sorry. I’ll try to get a post up tomorrow evening.
Valeria Korvin
I think I'm all leveled...
Slayer 8
+9 hp (6 +2 con +1 fcb)
+1 BAB (and next iterative attack)
+1 fort and ref
+1 bluff, intimidate, fly, perception, sense motive, stealth
+1 linguistics (abyssal), profession [sailor]
slayer talent- combat trick [clustered shots]
12th level: +1 Dex
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV
Polli becomes a 12th level WIZ-ZARD.
The mighty.
Interesting bits...
fcb for an extra spell, so learned 3 level six spells: permanent image, freezing sphere, planar binding
skills:
+1 for intimidation, arcana, spellcraft
+2 for planes, nature
background:
craft capentry and linguistics (skald)
and that is all.
Valeria Korvin
This doesn't effect anything at this level but what are the build rules for cohorts? I'm considering possibly taking leadership at 13th and would like to start thinking about what direction I would go with my cohort if I did.
Valeria Korvin
I thought Itzi said that if we picked an existing NPC he’d stat them up but if we made up someone new we could build them? My question was what point buy they’d be on and what kind of restrictions there would on like races and whatnot if I built someone new. Like I said, I’m not positive I’ll take leadership but I like making characters and it would be a nice distraction to roll around cohort ideas while packing.
Valeria Korvin
I will be moving on Wednesday (June 30th) and just learned that because of the holiday weekend (in the US) I won't be able to get internet at the new place until July 6th. At our current pace, keeping up from my phone shouldn't be a problem, but please feel free to bot me if necessary during that window.
