Carnadine: Indeed!

Infinity: Whew, yeah, nice work on Deimus's death. I'm sad to see the old robo-lizard go, but you both captured him well and revealed some interesting hints about the world we're in along the way.

It's also been fun to imagine how Kjeta would react to the Solar. She was very very genuinely humbled at first...and is still quite in awe...but staying humble isn't perhaps her best quality, especially when she's asked to show off. ;0)

Kjeta to Lexi said in character, of course.

I've played my share of thieves. ;-)

Sorry for the lack of response from me the past few days. I've been needing some time to let my brain relax, and taking a break has helped.

And to the GM, I tip my hat to you. That was well done with Deimus! I'm sad to see him go as well, but I think you did well in his send off.

Now, to think about how Raseri would react to this.

Lex, cool, that's been my impression of ya...but I know electronic communication very easily goes astray so I figured I'd err on the side of over-explaining.

...Dang. You're seriously making me question my belief in the RNG. Have you considered if Raseri has somehow *actually* angered the gods?!?

No worries, probably better to only belong to one faction anyways.

Full disclosure, atheist here...know well the idiocy of trying to combine reason with faith.

One of the things that fascinates me in D&D is imagining living in a world where Evil and Good were empirically measurable truths (quite unlike our own world), and where one's relationship to the gods (or lack thereof) isn't really based on faith...since, again, anyone but the wackiest of conspiracy theorists in Golarion or the Forgotten Realms knows that the gods are real, and affect their lives.

Me too. It’s fun to think about. It does help explain the general cavalier attitude towards death, when everyone knows that (a) resurrection is possible and (b) afterlife is real.

This is why I dig the nation of Rahadoum so much: they know the gods are real, and they are basically telling them to f' off.

Hrungnir/Kjeta,

I think I will go ahead give the Unearthed Arcana rules for Sidekicks a whirl for your new Lantern Dragonettes.

Sidekick Rules Link

You can choose the class it starts with (IC, it chose you during your initiation). Note the spellcaster class isn't a possibility unless you teach it a language somehow and it gains another level.

They are little dragons about the size of a cat with glowing bellies (because they eat candles of course).

Lantern Dragonette

Will summarize stats in another post, not sure today or not.

HP (104/104) Temp (10) Minor Form (12/13 min) Major Form (12/12 hrs) Buffs (Blessing of Fervor) Regular: AC (29/18/26) Saves (13/12/8) Initiative (+4) CMD (30) Minor Form: AC 33 (31/20/26) Saves (13/14/8) Initiative (+6) CMD (34)

Very cool stuff! I’m making the profile now and will get a post up.

Ravens, Grey Ladies, LoL, Moonlit Glade, and Demon Lord are the factions presented in the module, but if you wanted to help me write one we could make another up maybe. The Courtesans are another semi-faction that have a big role coming up soon.

Considering what Carnadine doesn't know yet, and may not know if the LOL crew don't tell him, the Demon Lord seems to want to usurp the Shadow Court. That can't be good.

Have we met the Moonlit Glade? Don't remember them.

How many Ravens are there? Enough for an army?

Are there any Thornwalker's at Court? Probably not in the Mod, but they can't be happy with Scutarius's death.

character sheet

Hey Infinity, are these the right stats to use?

AvernusArt 2Grid

No, building it off some other creatures. Sorry didn't have time I thought I would yesterday. Will do this first thing.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Alright, so basically ignore the UA sidekicks pdf I shared earlier.

Since that document was released in 2018, that material was finalized and made official in the D&D Essentials adventures, starting with Dragon of Icespire Peak. So I want to use those actual rules instead. Since you guys probably dont have free access to that, I'll post.

You can choose Expert, Warrior, or Spellcaster (yes, making this one available again since the official version is toned down). The Spellcaster can be one of two flavors: Healer or Mage. Spell suggestions are in the stat block but you can customize these if you wish...however, no booming blade or SCAG spells because I can't freaking take it anymore. XD sorry

Likewise the Warrior can choose to be either an Attacker or Defender, similar to fighting styles.

All of them will have the Lantern Belly ability, unlimited uses per day. Eating 8 oz of candle wax makes them glow like continual flame for 3d20 minutes. They are also all vulnerable to magical darkness, which will remove their light and ability to fly temporarily.

Spellcaster:

AC 12
hp 9
spd 15 ft, fly 40 ft (hover)

STR 10 (+0)
DEX 12 (+1)
CON 10 (+0)
INT 15 (+2)
WIS 14 (+2)
CHA 13 (+1)

Saves: Wis +4
Skills: Arcana +4, Investigation +4, Religion +4
Senses: pp 12
Immunities: Paralyzation, Unconscious

Languages: Draconic, Elvish

Magical Role. Choose a role for the spellcaster: healer or mage. Your choice determines which Spellcasting trait to use below.

Spellcasting (Healer). The spellcaster’s spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 12, +4 to hit with spell attacks). The spellcaster has following cleric spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): guidance, sacred flame
1st level (2 slots): cure wounds

Spellcasting (Mage). The spellcaster’s spellcasting ability is Intelligence (spell save DC 12, +4 to hit with spell attacks). The spellcaster has following wizard spells prepared:

Cantrips (at will): fire bolt, light
1st level (2 slots): sleep

Attack:
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6 piercing.

Expert and Warrior, and advancement beyond lvl 1 to follow...

AvernusArt 2Grid

Expert:

AC 14
hp 11
Speed 15 ft, fly 40 (hover)

STR 10 (+0)
DEX 15 (+2)
CON 12 (+1)
INT 13 (+1)
WIS 10 (+0)
CHA 14 (+2)

Save: Dex +4
Skills: Acrobatics +4, Performance +4, Persuasion +4, Sleight of Hand +4, Stealth +4
Senses: pp 10
Immunities: Paralyzation, Unconscious

Languages: Draconic, Elvish

Helpful. The expert can take the Help action as a bonus action.
Tools. The expert has thieves’ tools and a musical instrument.

Attack:
The Expert Lantern Dragonette can make one attack with its Bite, and one with its Tail Barb. Or, it can Radiant Spit.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d6+2 piercing damage.

Tail Barb. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d4+2 piercing damage.

Radiant Spit. Ranged Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, range 80/320 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8+2 radiant damage.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Warrior:

AC 16
hp 13
Speed 15 ft, fly 40 ft (hover)

STR 15 (+2)
DEX 13 (+1)
CON 14 (+2)
INT 10 (+0)
WIS 12 (+1)
CHA 10 (+0)

Save: Con +4
Skills: Athletics +4, Perception +3, Survival +3
Senses: pp 13
Immunities: Paralyzation, Unconscious
Languages: Draconic, Elvish

Martial Role. The warrior has one of the following traits of your choice:

Attacker. The warrior gains a +2 bonus to attack rolls.

Defender. The warrior gains the Protection reaction below.

Actions

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8+2 slashing damage.

Radiant Breath. Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, range 150/600 ft., one target. Hit: 1d8+1 radiant damage.

Reactions:
Protection (Defender Only). The warrior imposes disadvantage on the attack roll of a creature within 5 feet of it whose target isn’t the warrior. The warrior must be able to see the attacker.

AvernusArt 2Grid

Finally, these creatures will gain experience as if they were level 1 PCs dropped in with you. Meaning, they will probably nudge up fairly rapidly. I will go ahead and tell you they could potentially hit level 6 by the time you are level 10 (which is the the final level of the PCs for this adventure, I expect).

On a level up, all Sidekicks get another d8+con mod hp (or average + con mod). I forgot to put the HD they start with, so will list their level one HD next to their name here.

Then, you get abilities dependent on class:

Sidekick Advancement beyond 1st:

Expert: (2d8+2)
2>Cunning Action
3>Expertise
4>ABI(or feat)
5>Prof Bonus+1
6>Extra Attack
Ending with (7d8+7)

Spellcaster: (2d8)
2>+1st level spell
3>+1st level spell AND slot
4>ABI(or feat) AND new cantrip
5>Prof Bonus+1 AND 1st level slot, 2nd level slot, 2nd level spell 6>Potent Cantrips (+ability mod dmg to cantrips)
Ending with (7d8)

Warrior: (2d8+4)
2>Second Wind
3>Improved Critical
4>ABI(or feat)
5>Prof Bonus +1
6>Extra Attack
Ending with (7d8+14)

The bearfolk you startled when you first found your new quarters was of the Moonlit Glade. Their encampment which consists of mostly Bearkin but also other dwarves and northerners from Midgard is not within the court (but is rather far to the north), but he mentioned the wandering Lantern Bearers.

There are less than 10 Ravens. They are a little gang. Lets say 7 including Lexi.

You haven't seen any other fey of House Rivenwood, but you at least know what their banner looks like for future reference.

character sheet

Is it clear whether the invitation allows us to bring along a +1? If so, I'll let Kolya know.

---EDIT---

So, assuming I chose an Expert Dragonette, they'll have 11 HP total, yes? If they take 11+ damage, do they die? Or do they get death saves like a PC does?

AvernusArt 2Grid

The invitation allows but doesn't require a +1 for each, yes.

The sidekicks work like regular PCs in pretty much every way, so yes death saves.

Infinity, to be clear, you're one of the very few finest DMs I've had the pleasure to game with on this site over the last seven years. If this is you *not* at your best, I'm doubly impressed!

(I pointed out Carn's Investigate check not because I expect a faster turn around, but because I know I miss things in a game this complex and wanted to be sure you didn't.)

Looking forward to being all together in the Puzzle Box, and (most if not all) at the Swan Festival.

Hrrrmmm. I accidentally posted a half-complete post. Just finished editing/fixing. Assuming I have Aid, my Survival roll is 23. Otherwise, 21. Happy to lead the way for all.

(At some point, maybe I'll actually get trained in Survival. Is there a way to do that in 5e, short of spending a feat on it, or multiclassing?)

Let me second Kjeta's/Gyrfalcon's statements. You are by far one of the best DMs I have had the pleasure of playing with, period. This game has been a blast and I would happily play another one run by you. If you need a break, I think we all understand and I think all of us are clever and creative enough to come up with something to fill the gap while you recharge.

@Kjeta: Not that I'm aware of, but I think that's part of the mechanics. You don't have skill points, so skill proficiencies become the resource. Also, Raseri would be more than happy to aid since this is for her.

I'll try to wrap this up quickly so we can get to CSI: Midgard. ;)

Kjeta, can't learn new skill profs without feats or multiclassing, right. You can learn new tool profs though, such as Navigator's tools or Cartographer's tools. Probably not time really.

I feel like there's also a spell or two that helps with navigation but not finding it at the moment.

Carnadine is evil by choice, and Lexi is evil as a survival mechanic.

Plus, he makes a really, really good foil for the clerics in the group.
