This is the gameplay thread for Skitter Shot (Tier 1-2: using pregenerated Skittermander characters or your own level 1-2 skittermanders) as part of the PbP GameDay VIII, set to begin on August 26th, 2019!

Sorry for only getting this page up now, but post-Gen Con 2019 has been a bit insane for me - moving, medical/back issues, and other things I won't bore you with.

Feel free to "dot and delete" if you are part of the game, and look for us to begin in the evening of August 26th!

Track 02: Introductions. YouTube Link: Outlaw Star - "Day Break"

You be Skittermanders!

It began as a dull day aboard the Clutch, Nakonechkin Salvage’s only ship and your home for the past year or so.

Your boss, the vesk Nakonechkin Ginnady, brought the ship out of Pact Words space and into some of the void beyond, looking for derelict space stations or the remains of forgotten starship battles to pick through.

Suddenly, with a buzzing chime, the ship’s computers registered a starship drifting in the region. Nakonechkin rushed to the captain’s console and initiated a scan. An image of the target ship appeared on screen: a large, ornate green starship with brass accents. It looked abandoned and ill-suited to be so far from the Pact Worlds.

Nakonechkin quickly pulled on his space suit and grabbed a set of all-purpose tools. “This looks like an easy enough job. You lot stay here and keep an eye on the Clutch. Try not to ‘repair' anything while I’m away. I should be back in a couple of nanoseconds.” He nodded curtly and cycled the airlock to float over to the derelict ship.

Knowing that your boss always called on you when the time was right, you gathered together on the bridge to watch him float his way across open space to the green ship until he was out of visual range. Not having much else to do, you decided to play a little game, telling each other the stories about how you wound up on board the Clutch, working for Nakonechkin!

Please introduce yourselves to each other, and try to use the unique piece of Skittermander slang that appears on each of your character sheets (on the dropbox version I linked in the discussion thread, at least)! Also, note that each of you is carrying a rather interesting piece of equipment that might be worthy of note (on the original character sheets, these are the second-to-last items listed). You may also RP to your heart's content until PbP GameDay VII officially gets underway!

Nako stops at the edge of the door, with doshko in a hand little fingers twisting on the trigger. "But... But.... Nako come with boss?! Nako help Gree?" She jumps up looking through the view port that is made for someone much taller than a skittermander. After a moment she props the doshko against the door and climbing up the handle to look out the view port without jumping. One little skitter claw on the trigger making it turn on.

Sitting near the bridge's giant window is Quonx, the Clutch's mechanic, currently engrossed in the examination of a small electronic device resembling a wrench with wires and screws sticking out. Her shaggy electric blue fur is littered with various bits and bolts, and she scratches a tangle of cables on her forehead as she tucks the contraption away in her stained brown overalls. Quonx walks beside Nako and pats her on the back.

"The boss needs us to hold the ship! Who will protect the ship otherwise, gree?"

The mechanic then hears the others talking about telling stories and barges in.

"Oh! Oh! Me! Pick me!"
"I'm working allsix to fix my quantum reality spanner!" The mechanic starts walking around, talking more to herself than to the assembled crew. "I recently read this amaaaaazing work by Dr. Wolfram on qwark entanglement and thought, 'Hey, maybe if I just tweak the tunneling radius, I might..." She pauses, seeing her friends impatiently waiting for her story.

"Oh, yes, my story!" She clears her throat in a high-pitched squeak and begins, six arms gesturing rapidly. "I grew up on Absalom Station and worked as a freelance mechanic. And then I get called to do this job on the Clutch." She waves a wrench in the air as she speaks. "Previous mechanic really could have used some help. He probably used the wrong approximation of the Pauli length constant, so the photon-ion ratio was a bit off in the main reactor." She goes back to shuffling around pensively, all the while gesturing even more than before. "But that doesn't make any sense! So I just took to fixing the compression chamber using a modified Alpha-X barrel taken from..." The skittermander goes on rambling for a few minutes, seemingly without breathing. When interrupted by her comrades, she huffs and puffs.

"Oh, yes! Where was I... Oh, right! So yeah, I made those repairs, and the Boss was so happy he wanted us to be Nufriends! So I ended up on this ship!"

Gazigaz brushes his fur while listening to Quonks presentation. When everybody's done talking, he puts his hand mirror in his pocket and smiles to the crew.

A chime beeps on the bridge console of the Clutch, indicating that time has really flown! Two hours have passed since Nakonechkin departed, and he isn’t responding to the ship's automatic attempt at establishing communications. Something must have gone terribly wrong - and Nakonechkin might need help!!!!

After that unfortunate delay, we can now begin our adventure of Skitter Shot in earnest!

While checking the comms, Quonx notices that Nakonechkin's only ran a quic surface scan of the derelict ship before grabbing his salvage gear and floating over. The blue mechanic is able to learn significantly more information (and your GM is going to give a +1 for awesome RP and also for you all being super patient while we were all on pause)!

* The vessel’s transponder identifies it as the Emerald Empyrean, a pleasure barge owned by a Vercite company called Trendsetter Excursions. The only ways to enter the ship are through two airlock doors, one on the port side near the aft and one on the starboard side near the fore. The forward airlock is completely sealed shut, but the aft airlock could be forced open with simple engineering tools.

* The Emerald Empyrean is a modified heavy freighter with a forward-facing heavy weapon and a small turret weapon, but plenty of room for passengers and recreational activities. Though its thrusters are active, they are currently idle, and the ship has enough power to provide artificial gravity, interior lighting, and life support.

* Further scans reveal over a dozen life signs aboard the ship, which Nakonechkin missed on his initial scans. Most of these life signs are concentrated in an area in the ship’s aft, on the starboard side. Nakonechkin’s life signs are visible, but the vesk is currently in a semi-conscious state and his location cannot be pinpointed. An additional anomalous energy signature is detected in the ship’s center.

* It appears that most of the Emerald Empyrean’s functions are controlled by a single onboard artificial intelligence core, which is very unusual for a ship this size. However, the AI doesn’t respond to any attempts to communicate with it.

Bringing the Clutch to within 200 feet of the Empyrean's airlock, however, would mean that you can float yourselves across without any effort (or making any skill checks!).

(Plus, these robots are vulnerable to critical hits, so the extra damage does 1.5 as much, so that's 16 instead of 11 on the crit, for a total of 27 damage!)

...and neatly cuts it in half!

Quonx is able to adjust her shot and shoots the Yellow robot instead!

The Yellow robot returns fire!

Pulsecaster Pistol: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 vs. EAC

Dakoyo and Gazigaz are up! Followed by Nako and Quonx in Round 2!
Gazigaz, I'll let your diplomacy check be considered "combat banter" as a free action - you can tell that these robots, once engaged in combat, don't have the programming to switch back to conversation mode...unless all four of you are in cages first, that is.

Fun Skittermander fact! The six-armed racial trait means that you can hold 6 different one-handed items without having to worry about having free hands, so Dakoyo can hang onto that pistol while still wielding his battle staff with two hands (and still have three hands free)! It's only when you're working allsix that you have to be worried! :P

The robot does, indeed, try to take a swing at Dakoyo as the mystic rushes by!

On the destroyed robots, you find a total of 3 Pulsecaster Pistols and 5 Mk 1 Stickybomb Grenades.

Moments later, a soothing, computerized female voice comes over the ship's PA system:

Announcement Text:
“Attention passengers, this is M2, your ship’s artificial intelligence. Scans indicate that a handful of pets have escaped their cages and are running loose. If you spot one of these errant animals, please contact the nearest porter robot. Thank you.”

Any attempt to contact M2 is met with silence, and all attempts to send communications from this room appear to be jammed.

Whenever you are ready to move on, the door panel has no security, and a simple button opens up, revealing a long, illuminated hallway with three doors other than the one you emerge from. The door on the southern (bottom) side of the hallway looks like it has been barricaded from the inside.

Unfortunately, you can only use Inspiring Boost immediately after someone takes damage, so Quonx is not a legal target...you also can't use Inspiring Boost on the same person twice in the same day, although that timer resets after the target takes a 10 minute rest to regain stamina (by spending a resolve point).
