Witch's Winter Holiday

Because of how deeper darkness and daylight work, the light level where they overlap is "regular light" - aka regular darkness. Unfortunately, the ioun torch and other light spells don't increase this more since the deeper darkness overrides them. But yay for darkvision at least!

As the swirl of winds touches Dolph's hat, the Pathfinders who can see in the dark watch as their regular black-and-white vision returns - and reveals the dark-clothed humanoid lurking just around the corner, with another right behind them!

@Kronug, it would take a move action to retrieve the vial and another to give it to the bird. Alternatively, the bird could use a move action to take it from you and then another to move. Either way, both the elemental summoning and the bombardment can't happen in the same round. I'm going to assume you chose the bombardment unless I hear otherwise.

Xilt rolls the ball of water forward...

...and it steamrolls one of the creatures. With barely enough time to yelp, it is engulfed by the orb. The bird tries to drop its payload on the other creature, but it can't see in the dark...

Miss chance, 1 = miss: 1d2 ⇒ 2

Thank you for the reminders on Knowledge checks. These are dark stalkers - ambushers of the deep that, while blinded by strong lights, can see even in impenetrable darkness. Which they can create at will so they can stab their targets in the kidneys. With poisoned blades. Oh, and they explode when they die. Fun times.

Also slight bot for Victor - too much retconning depending on his reaction to wait. Sorry!

As Dolph's weapon slams into its chest, the stalker steps to the side of the goat's attack and glances at the dwarf's "glowing" helmet. (Man, what does this even look like? lol) Ducking under the extended shaft of the weapon, it concentrates for a moment as it reaches out to touch the helm - but Victor will not let this go unchallenged!

Victor Gore, PA vs Yellow: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 9 - 2 = 14
Piercing damage, PA: 1d4 + 6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 6 = 15

Yellow Touch vs Dolph Touch AC 11: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

The celestial goat catches only air as the stalker lays a hand on Dolph's head. The darkness suddenly comes rushing back from the its blade, leaving the Pathfinders blinded once more. The muffled churning of the orb fills the air, as does the faint sound of more footsteps - this time from behind Dewberry!

Sammy continues to kiss the air searching for the location of these foul creatures. He will surely communicate this fact to Xilt. His master is in trouble yet again and he wracks his tiny serpentine brain to remember if these creatures can see invisible creatures as well as in the dark. He remembers hearing once that casting in the dark is almost as bad as swimming after eating or perhaps it was the other way around.

He can take two move actions to locate the direction of these creatures. He automatically pinpoints any creatures within 5' of himself and Xilt.

We should have a discussion about line of effect and casting I think. Assuming that you are blind can you cast spells with a range of touch (like on yourself)? Also is tremorsense or a pinpointed square with scent enough information to cast at a spell at a creature or even to center an area of effect spell?

Witch's Winter Holiday

Since they seem relevant at this point in time, here are the rules on aiming spells The biggest trick is that for some, you have to be able to see your target. For others, you need to define the location where the effect takes place. Personal spells and friendly touch-range spells need not worry - I"m assuming everyone is talking enough to coordinate.

So for example, Dolph could cast grease under the stalker in front of him (since it targets an area), but he couldn't use slow since he can't see his target. He's fine to cast divine favor on himself or move and cast cure light wounds on Victor.

@Dewberry - you can determine the creature's location, but not its intent (it still has concealment against you). Do you want to change that attack from a readied action to a regular attack?

@Xilt - it would be nearly impossible to precisely target an area based on verbal descriptions from your companions. Sammy is close enough and can offer nonverbal instructions (such as pushing left/right) that he can help his master aim at a square at least.

Dolph's helmet misses the stalker, as does Victor's horn. Robyyn finds himself unnaturally attuned to the ground beneath him, but that lets him find the stalker harassing the dwarf and coats the creature's feet with a film of ectoplasm.

I'm ruling that tremorsense is enough to pinpoint because A. it says "location of anything in contact with the ground" as opposed to scent's "source's location" (as opposed to scent's "determine direction" use) and B. the spell is targeting the creature's feet, which are immediately in contact with the ground and it's perfect.

Witch's Winter Holiday

Dolph sniffs like a hairless otter, then takes a step back and soundly wallops something with the weapon of his ancestors. Victor bleats victoriously, his horns having made contact with something besides air at last!

@Robyyn - since nobody can "see" Yellow without concealment, it would not trigger any AoOs for standing from prone.

@Sammy - you still get only two move actions each round to "sniff" for other creatures, even if one is adjacent to you. You could ready an action to "detect", but the trigger couldn't be based on visual or olfactory senses. Easiest trigger would be if Xilt got shanked - no sight necessary to notice that one!

Dewberry hisses delightedly as she catches one of the stalkers in her mouth, coils swiftly wrapping around the creature and squeezing tightly. A muffled scream can be heard as something cracks within the constrictor's embrace.

@Lis - How can you tell where the creature Dewberry is attacking is? Deeper darkness also hides the light from produce flame, and snakes are notoriously tight-lipped about where they put their prey.

@Kronug - how can Kronug direct his bird to attack something neither he nor the bird can see?

In the dark, Kronug hears the elemental's stony fists strike the ground even as the elf flails about blindly before almost poking Dolph's eye out with his wand.
