This thing is a devourer!

Forgot my paladin levels. Actually I will use hero's defiance instead. Leaving me at 4 hp and still raging. Do I get a turn in here?
LoH with greater mercy: 3d6 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 4) + (4) = 14

GM Auke |

Was a devourer I hope. If it matches the listed stats it should be dead. And green took 28 - 60 fire dmg.
There's quite a bit of cover between you and it. Also you can't see green at all, so using splash mastery feels a bit too metagamey to me. Also it might have special things like Temporary Hitpoints.

Teeetering at the edge of consciousness facing three dangerous foes, Keriassa's arm glows as she tries to make her likely final arrows count.

Using this rage's Auspicious mark on the manyshot. All aimed at the devourer, then the wounded archer.

You are 10 foot down. There is a stair leading up.

"Focus on the big guy."
Three of Sparky's bombs hit their mark
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 and it catches fire
The one that missed strays and accidentally hits green because I'm in a giving mood :-P
Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Keriassa fires at the Devourer, but the dread howl has left her hands shaking and only one arrow hits.
The blue baykok fires its arrows
At Sparky: 1d20 + 19 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 19 - 2 + 1 = 30 for Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 and Negative Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 4

Any other tricks? Go down to -7, turing into 7 non lethal, going unconscious and losing 11, so at -11?
Two more arrows to go, but I'll wait for confirmation

1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 28 Threat
1d20 + 9 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 9 - 2 + 1 = 14 doesn't confirms so only damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 and Negative Energy: 1d6 ⇒ 5
It then steps back behind the wall.
Boros and Narayan are up!

Ohhhhh this website tests my patience…. So. often. Been trying to post since 9am.
I'm going to assume we are still fighting since no one has made a decision one way or the other.
The assault feels overwhelming, the undead just keep flowing. Hopefully Arem Zey can get this stitched up soon! Boros thinks. His wings flutter, spilling dirt in little dust devils around him as he raises slightly off the ground. His bow continues to work in a blur at the larger target that is still visible, carrying with it the holy bane of the undead.
Swift to activate Undead Bane, 5' adjust straight up. Full attack on the red creature. Attack modifiers in play for this attack: Bane, Heroism, Weapon of Awe, Haste, Judgement of Destruction, Rapid Shot, Manyshot, Deadly Aim. Assuming the shaken condition is gone too right?
Manyshot: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 for Damage: 2d8 + 32 + 2d6 ⇒ (8, 4) + 32 + (3, 5) = 52
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27 for Damage: 1d8 + 16 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 16 + (2, 3) = 22
Iterative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 for Damage: 1d8 + 16 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 16 + (1, 1) = 23
Hasted: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 for Damage: 1d8 + 16 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 16 + (5, 1) = 25
Edit: If for some reason I kill the Devourer and have shots left, I can shift to Green. I have no line of sight to blue.

![]() |

UMD: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31
Now Narayan shrouds himself in a shield of force and advances.

GM Auke |

Boros manyshot hits the devourer, but it isn't enough to bring it down.
The green baykok shoots an arrow in the unconscious body of Keri, then it sinks into the ground, out of sight.
1d20 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 19 + 1 = 26 for 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 and negative energy: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The Devourer extends its ghostly hand at Sparky and drains away the alchemist's life force
To Hit (Touch): 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 18 + 2 = 29
Vampiric Touch: 9d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 1, 1, 6, 1, 6, 3) = 32
It then moves through the massive stones into the Ziggurat.
Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Tree, Nugats and Sparky are up!

Combat Gear potions of cure serious wounds (2),...
I think Nugats has one of these? where's the other?
will try to grab Keri and carry her back towards the party if thats allowed.

GM Auke wrote:Combat Gear potions of cure serious wounds (2),...I think Nugats has one of these? where's the other?
It's currently in the possession of Using Dice sheet order, skipping Nugats: 1d5 ⇒ 5 Keriassa
will try to grab Keri and carry her back towards the party if that's allowed.
Yes, you might not be strong enough to carry her, but you can drag/push her dead body unceremoniously down the stairs.
Away from the baykok, who was hiding in the ground adjacent to her, about to devour her soul

![]() |

The 25 actually missed because Sparky had a +2 dodge bonus vs undead for 1 round. But the other 29 dmg from 2 hits did go through. I'm thinking it is time to retreat but I won't leave party members behind if they intend to stay. If we decide to retreat then Sparky will activate his wings and fly 120 feet away. Edit: And 32 points from a drain effect.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Keriassa of Isger finds herself in a large chamber, the edges of which lack delineation. A lone spiral spins in the distance, at times close, other times impossibly far. An imposing winged figure stands nearby, clad in heavy silver armor, with no face and deep scarlet eyes.
"Noble one, you have been felled by unspeakable evil. Know that your deeds have not gone unnoticed, and that even now those that grieve for you still toil mightily against the unholy. As Ivorra served Videlis, you have served the Master of the Hunt, and he has deemed you worthy of a redemption, given the odds. The Mistress has thus heard his pleas. She will not call for you yet, but will beckon again once your destiny is fulfilled. Use every measure of your being to return to you friends in their time of need. But be wary, it may be too late."
--------------------
The skald/paladin's skin begins to glow with silvery sheen the moment she is teleported away. With a start, Keri's eyes twitch and she reflexively grabs for her bow to protect her friends. It will take some time, but her journey begins anew.
Using the Empyreal Revenant boon to resurrect over 1 minute (per raise dead) but with half hp and no negative levels.

Boros scrambles frenetically at the base, looking for potions and other things. The scene is like a mass bazar, pathfinder agents everywhere calling out for items as various teams straggle back in.
"Potion of fly, more arrows, oil of gravity bow. That's all I can think of for now."

**OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT** (2 of 2)
Suddenly, it becomes clear that the astral invaders’ retreat is merely a ploy. More invaders pour through the rifts to reinforce their companions. Their reckless assault tears the holes wider, and the entire demiplane begins to shift and fold. Locations fade and vanish, reappearing miles away, now separated by a wide expanse of barren, rocky wasteland. The invaders continue to pour through, and the tapestry’s exhausted repair mechanisms cease to function altogether. The triumphant attackers converge on the Pathfinders scattered across the wasteland.
Then, the sky turns red.
A primal screech pierces the tapestry, and a colossal ruby-flamed phoenix appears in the sky, its wings nearly blocking the sun. It swoops across the sky at tremendous speed, its tattered feathers leaving a trail of smoke. With another screech, it flaps its massive wings, and countless fiery feathers shoot towards the invaders. As the feathers strike, they explode, incinerating much of the invading force. Then the phoenix turns its attention to the other outsiders—the mass of Pathfinders—and beats its wings once more. A barrage of feathers strikes the wasteland, and from each resulting inferno emerges a bird of pure ruby-red flames.
Aram Zey’s voice echoes. “Can you hear me, Pathfinders? The tapestry is in its death throes! You are cut off—I cannot help you escape. Destroy the phoenixes—perhaps their magic can repair the tapestry!”
Table GMs, the Tapestry’s Last Defense condition on page 29 is in effect.

GM Auke |

All around, flaming feathers barrage the tapestry. The scattered demiplane natives are unharmed by the inferno, as is the landscape itself. Screeches echo across the ruby-tinted landscape, and the tattered birds of ruby fire close in.
You've got two rounds to prepare to fight these phoenix-like creatures that is coming for you all!

GM Auke |

cold it is - special attack?
It has two special attacks
1d2 ⇒ 1This phoenix has a banishing Strike: Once per round, when the Ruby Phoenix Guardian hits a target with a melee attack, it can attempt to eject that target from the Hao Jin Tapestry. This functions as banishment (DC 23 Will negates). A creature who succeeds at a saving throw against this ability is immune for 24 hours.

I'll throw in Spell Resistance (appropriate for its CR) and several Spell Like abilities for free (didn't count those as special attacks).

I'll throw in Spell Resistance (appropriate for its CR) and several
I'd like to file a formal complaint with the writers. OMG I am haunted by this! I wanted to buy a Piercing MetaMagic Rod in between encounters but it is a 3K item and our limit was 1.5K. Here's hoping I roll high. And thanks GM for the generosity.
In the face of the onslaught, Nugats pulls his lesser empower metamagic rod 3/3 charges and vanishes from sight Invisibility Edit and moves off to the side.

The people who haven't done their prep yet can still do so, but I'll start off now.
1d6 ⇒ 5
Also everyone of you gets 40 temporary hitpoints! (Due to other groups having defeated the undead!)
The phoenix swoops down to 10 feet high and looks at the intruders. Determined to burn away the filth it calls down a storm of flames.

Sparky: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Succes
Nugats: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Failure
Narayan Singh: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 Failure
Tree: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22 Succes
Keriassa Reflex: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 17 + 2 = 33 Succes
With the Communal Fire Resistance(20) it's 25 actual damage for the people who failed and 2 for the people that made it!
The Phoenix causes its feathers to burst into flame the area around it clearly heating up.
Its eyes look at the party and an opaque 20 foot high ring of fire erupts around you sending more heat your way (not enough to beat the Resist Energy)
Party is up!

Moving off to the side, Nugats steam still rises from the fire the phoenix threw at them. Determined to right the wrongs that have plagued him since he stepping into the Tapestry, he grips his rod all the tighter.
Whispering words in the arcane language of magic, a ball of ice forms in his hands as it flies towards the phoenix.
Cast Fireball, sacrificing mad monkeys, empower metamagic rod, Versatile Evocation changing from fire to cold: 15d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 3, 8, 3, 6, 1, 7, 4, 7, 4, 1, 8, 3, 7, 1) + 4 = 69
