You have been summoned to meet Historia-7 in the Archive's Cortex of the Lorespire Complex and gather before you enter.
LA64397F
|
An andoird with purple eyes and greenish hair, designated LA64397F, wanders into the Cortex. He flicks through a datapad, her optical sensors scanning the complex data. She looks up and then checks her chronometer. "Almost time."
M'shak
|
Another female android wanders into the Cortex. She's wearing a race pilot jacket, her eyes constantly scans the place to see if something is unusual.
Nothing seems to have changed since last time. But, be on guard, we never know...
With a flat-voice, she addresses LA64397F I'm M'shak.
Sarangari Steelscales
|
In a change of pace the next Starfinder to arrive is a vesk. He is wearing a battle harness painted to match his skin color perfectly. He leans against a wall and nods a greeting at the pair of androids.
Arratoi
|
A grinning, cheerful little ysoki in the room says, "Hello everyone!! My name is Arratoi! I'm a writer and I find inspiration working various missions for the Starfinders and travelling the stars. Someday, I'll write the quintessential space novel that will be read across the entire galaxy!!
"Now I know that some may struggle to pronounce my name, but that's okay. It's pronounced ARA-TOI. But honestly, if you cannot say it, just call me 'A Rat'! I know you were thinking it! So now you can say it without fear of causing me any offense!
"Oh and by the way, I have quite a few dwarven novelist colleagues who've taught me how to throw insults like a dwarf. It's quite an art! And I daresay.... addictive!
"So if I say things such as, 'Why won't that incompetent harpy-faced decrepit fuzzpot light turn green already?!?!' then please don't take offense. I just get carried away now and then!"
OP-1
|
Another android sneak into the room almost unnoticed as Arratoi makes his introduction pretending to have been here all along.
It's dressed in skintight armor and wearing a belt which is fitted with a couple of holsters containing a few small blasters, a survival knife and a couple of small pouches most likely filled with various small tools which can be used for precision work.

M'shak
|
I've never meet the man, but I was on the team that identify him through the Arch Energy Consortium.
I don't think the odds to convince the man to talk to us are more than 50% since your last attempt but I will help the best I can to make him talk.
Says in a flat voice M'shak.
She adds after a few second of silence How much time do we have to interrogate Mr. Lanzio?
What do we know of him?
Arratoi
|
"Any other info we might have to serve as leverage on Lanzio?
"What can you tell us about Verces, Cuvacera, and the data facility? And regarding the facility, should we expect just a huge bank of computers? Or is it more than just a data center?"
Sarangari Steelscales
|
Sarangari's tail twitches in annoyance at the sight of Lanzio.
"I got some leverage we can use on Lanzio. I'll just remind him of how our last meeting went." Steelscales cracks his knuckles menacingly.
LA64397F
|
LA64397F nods to the others. "Organics may prefer to call me Ella, or Elle."
"Have we reviewed Lazio's correspondence with the group? His financials? How was he to be paid?"
| GMParty |
How much time do we have to interrogate Mr. Lanzio?
What do we know of him?
"I've made arrangements with the Stewards, so that you will have adequate time. I know very little other than what I have already told you. He was unwilling to talk to me."
Any other info we might have to serve as leverage on Lanzio?
"Some of you may have met him before, that may prove useful,"
If you have the "Tip of the Conspiracy" boon from #1-14 Star Sugar Heartlove!!!, you should slot it as your Ally boon.
His financials? How was he to be paid?
"He hasn't revealed that information, and our attempts to trace it have only found dead ends."
What can you tell us about Verces, Cuvacera, and the data facility?
"Verces is a tidally locked planet and Cuvacara, like most major cities on the planet, is built in the shadowed band between the light and dark sides. As for the facility, a satellite recon photo is best I can do. The facility must be underground because we’re seeing a small concrete bunker with the equivalent of a blast door. There’s a shuttle pad nearby. It’s constructed on the border of the industrial side of the city. Away from entertainment district. It’s an area of nondescript warehouses and buildings that all look the same. Other than that, the facility is a black box. We can shuttle you to it, however, and have an extraction ready for when you’re finished."
"I expect there to be a substantial amount of data present. You'll need this to retrieve it."
She slides a portable data storage device, modified to accept a large amount of data quickly, across her desk to you.
The satellite photo is an image that shows basically what you see on the first map (slide 2).
I've added Historia-7 and Lanzio pictures to the slides.
If you have other questions, you are free to ask, but you can also slot boons at this time. Other than the mentioned Tip of the Conspiracy boon, this is a Dataphiles mission, and Computers and Engineering will be important. There is no vehicle or starship combat, so those boons will not be relevant.

"Historia-7, you seem preoccupied. Distracted even. What's going on? Something troubling you that we should know about? Some new intel crop up that should be discussed?"
Culture: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
"Fun fact! Cuvacara is known as 'The Dusk Jewel' by the locals. Presumably because its location leaves the city in a state of perpetual dusk...."

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Culture: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
With her flat-voice, M'shak says My sensors have also read that History-7's behavior is off by 5%. Something is wrong.
That's seems a reasonable answer to a non asked question Aratoi. she adds.
| GMParty |
"I'm frustrated that I can't provide you with more information. I've got a many things on my minds.", Historia-7 answers, before continuing, "We need something more than breadcrumbs from Lanzio. Do whatever it takes, understood?"
| GMParty |
Lanzio is being detained a short journey from Lorespire Complex at the Stewards headquarters, the Bastion. Historia-7 has made arrangements for you to meet with him, though you must undergo a thorough security check before being allowed to do so. The Stewards ask that you leave all weapons and armor with them for both Lanzio's and their security. The Stewards also inform you that they will be recording the interview, as your meeting is solely a courtesy to the Starfinder Society.
After clearing security, they escort you to a stark, bright-white interview room, where the accused terrorist Hira Lanzio waits seated in a white chair at a white table. His once-styled, dark wavy hair is now slightly disheveled, and Lanzio is bereft of his signature sunglasses and all other trappings of privilege. The interview room is otherwise
featureless except for a one-way mirror connected presumably to an adjacent room.
Lanzio looks up as you enter, but says nothing.

sorry about that, wasn't appearing in my games
Well, uh, nice to meet you all.
Looks like you initially dotted with the wrong alias. Jackojare still isn't showing up for me in the characters, but another of your characters is. Go ahead and fill out the requested info in the Discussion when you get a chance after catching up on the little bit you've missed.
Jackojare

done, and it wasn't appearing in my games cause a few weeks before gameday started, I hid old games that ended that DMs did not make inactive themselves and accidentally hid this game.
Jackojare remains silent and waits for a response, hopefully he isn't yelled at for being late.
Sarangari Steelscales

"Hi Lanzio, so nice to see you again. Historia-7 tells me that you haven't given up any dirt on those people who tried to kill you. Why would you protect them? Is it because you're afraid they'll come after you? Well here's the thing, they might come lookin' for ya but I'm here now and you'll remember just how bad an idea it is to get on my bad side."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

When M'shak enters in the white room, she check for camera and mike. She also asks if someone is behind the mirror and if they can enter in the room behind.
I think it will be more reasonable to tell us what you know to have a chance of vengeance rather than been killed here, alone.

A bit of good cop, bad cop?
"So as my colleagues here said. You can rot here. Waiting for some assassin to come and shiv ya in your sleep. Or my over enthusiastic vesk friend here might do so himself not too long from now.
"But I have an alternative to offer. Tell me what you know. Cooperate. And I'll hold off my bloodthirsty colleagues. Then I'll even put in a good word for you with the stewards. Isn't it about time you have someone on your side who isn't looking to have you face down in the dirt?"

Ella simply watches as her team conducts the interview at nuances well above her capability. Like any good librarian, however, she begins to record Lanzio's responses.
| GMParty |
Lanzio gestures Sarangari forward and whispers in his ear, “You think just because your android leader figured out you got hacked, that you’re safe now? Think again. My best chance is they decide it’s not cost effective to bother trying to kill me again. That can happen only if they don’t think I’m helping you.” Before you lean away he taps the side of his head and looks towards Jackojare.
Lanzio continues,"I'm not giving you anything. You're wasting your time. I've got nowhere to go how about you?"
“There’s not a lot of traffic through the facility. It’s devoid of personnel most the time except for maintenance or if they need some analysis they don’t want to risk on a networked machine. It’s not really an office as much as it is a vault. So the defenses are automated. I wouldn’t expect an AI, but the security software might be have some pre-programmed contingencies. The more mistakes you make, the more difficult it might become.”
“They’re also involved in magical R&D, so I wouldn’t be surprised if you ran into at least something... out of the ordinary. That might also be an opportunity. I get the impression their magical assets are not as disciplined as their technological holdings, and someone in the Starfinder Society might be able to trace their research or materials. I’m sure your Historia-7 told you to get digital files, but any example of their arcane projects could be valuable to you.”
Others can also read the spoiler to save Jackojare having to relay the info.

TALK!
Your chance of survival could only increase if you talk to us.
Continues to asks M'shak with a complete neutral voice after hearing what Jackojare telepathically tell them.
Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 -2 to "read" M'shak
Arratoi
|
"Wow, you're a tough nut to crack. We get the picture, you ain't no snitch!"
Arratoi also taps the side of his head, attempting to pass a secret message along that we've gotten the hint.
Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Later, when we depart, Arratoi will inform the stewards that Lanzio should be provided some degree of consideration if possible as he had cooperated with the Society.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 15 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 15 + (4) = 28
Later, after departing the facility, Arratoi will contact Historia-7 and pass along the information from Lanzio. Arratoi will then ask, "Any possibility of tracing the magical research or materials as Lanzio had suggested?"
| GMParty |
Historia-7 replies to Arratoi, "Good work. It does sound like these magical materials may be more traceable, if you can find them. Bring back anything that you think may be useful. I've had a delivery of some additional items that may be useful for you sent to your ship."
When you arrive at your ship to depart for Cuvacara, you find two darksight goggles, two mk 1 diffraction cloaks, two mk 2 serums of healing, one targeting computer upgrade, two purple force field upgrades, and a credstick with 1630 credits.
M'shak
|
Looking at the equipment, M'shak says If nobody want one of the force field or one of the diffraction cloak, I'm ready to take one. I don't need the darksight googles nor the targeting computer.
Once the equipment is evenly distributed between them, M'shak is ready to pilot the starship toward Cuvacara.
Sarangari Steelscales
|
"I could use a pair of them goggles. A cloak and a force field also sound nice but I can probably take a hit better than any of you already so somebody else can have the first chance on them."
OP-1
|
"I think that having our front line use the best equipment is the most efficient way to proceed"
I'm not going to say no to one of the cloaks, but I do think that people at the front will most likely get the most use out of the force field and the cloak, and I'm not planning to be at the front if I can help it
Arratoi
|
"I don't need any of that because, frankly, I plan on not being a target for any hostiles. But I'm happy to hold onto and administer the healing serums if needed. Or if those more combat-oriented than me wants to hold it themselves, that's fine too."
| GMParty |
M'shak pilots the Dataphiles private shuttle to Cuvacara on Verces without incident. When you arrive, you find a strikingly beautiful city with a diversity of architecture, gleaming triangular skyscrapers, iridescent glass towers, brightly lit floating neon displays, and ribbons of multilayered roadways and bullet trains festooned with lights.
The landing pad in your satellite photo rests in a sparsely trafficked area, comprised mainly of warehouses, storage facilities, and city utilities.
There isn’t much to the facility site from the vantage of the small shuttle pad built adjacent to it. From the landing pad, a concrete walkway leads west behind a twenty-foot-high chain-link enclosure. The gate to the enclosure is padlocked to dissuade normal transient foot traffic, particularly from the Southwest Facet, Cuvacara’s industrial and lower-income district. West of the landing pad is a heavily fortified bunker entrance constructed of concrete and steel. The bunker is octagonal and thirty feet wide on all sides, with a heavy steel door on the south side.
You have arrived on the map on slide 2.
How do you proceed?
Arratoi
|
"I'm sure there are traps everywhere. Keep your eyes open! And given that we know there's magic hereabouts, can anyone detect magic?"
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Can we constantly search around as we move forward? Taking 10 if anyone has a high perception? Or maybe even taking 20 as we move along?
LA64397F
|
Ella nods. "Simple enough." She weaves a combination of technology and magic to allow her to see magical auras. She sweeps back and forth in front of them.
Cast Detect Magic
| GMParty |
Ella does not detect any magical auras on the landing pad or walkway.
Arratoi doesn't notice anything.
You can take 10, if you choose to, but can't take 20. I'll ignore distance on whatever roll/take 10 you make, presuming that you're looking as you move along.
OP-1
|
M'shak as lead with a +12 on perception with Steelscales next to him? I do want to point out that I have trapspotter so that if I somehow wander with 10ft of a trap I (I'm fine with the GM rolling in secret) get a free check to see if I spot it for a total bonus of +11)
LA64397F
|
Ella follows the others toward the door, looking out for any magical auras.
Don't forget to take the items you want/need from the cache. Sounds like there would even be ones left over.
M'shak
|
M'Shak is attentive around her. Calculation the odds for the entrance to be trapped she says.
There is around 89.3% chance that this place is trapped.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
OP-1
|
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 +2 vs traps
At Steelscales request OP-1 stays behind the Vesk but keeps it's optical processors analyzing the environment to the best of it's ability
| GMParty |
As you continue forward down the walkway, when M'shak steps into the area around the bunker, lights atop the five fence poles surrounding the bunker turn on.
OP-1 notices that the lighted posts also contain concealed video cameras.
You can attempt an engineering check to deal with the cameras.
Additionally, she notices that the bunker door is locked and that there is a trap that will shock someone who attempts to enter without a key card.
The trap can be disabled with a computers or engineering check, and a separate computers or engineering check can be used to unlock the door.
Jackojare: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
M'shak: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Arratoi: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
OP-1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 (+2 traps)
Sarangari: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
LA64397F: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
OP-1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 (+2 traps)
