@ Lidia. One of the sailors says, "Yea, you can have it 'ery'night, but da night shift sleeps where they like durin' da day."
Does Ben hear from anyone about the antics of Thyste?
This is a good question I will let Thyste and Kioshi' decide. But for the sake of pace, we will say you were all tired and went to bed and if it comes out it will be during the day, next day.
"Son, you are not being offensive. You are curious and not make presumptions, that is all we can ask. I would rather not give some sailors magic food and others not. You want to keep equanimity among the crew. If your team eats them and I can give the crew a little extra meat they will be very happy with you. Or, give them to the captain for emergency first aid. Both options are great."
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste basically falls right into her bunk, facedown, and starts snoring, her tail waving slowly above her for about a minute before it wavers and falls beside her to dangle over the edge. If any antics were had, she doesn't share them with the group.
Conversely, she's too conked-out to prevent Kioshi from sharing.
When the next morning comes, she eyes Lydia's handiwork with dead-tired eyes. "Oh, jeez," she says, rubbing her chin. "Now this bunk can only belong to people with LB initials. ...Which means we have a place for Ben's dinosaur to sleep during the day," she adds.
It occurs to me that she never actually answered Lydia's question about her sleepiness earlier :D whoops
Real Reason: she's part fox, and foxes sleep about as much as cats do. Somewhere between the 8 hours for humans and the 14-16 for foxes is the 12 from the Sleepy drawback. Seemed right!

I love drawbacks that come up in gameplay. It is the reason I think that oracles are the best-designed class in the game. I think sleep works great for Thyste.

In the morning, very early, Lidia rises and makes her way out of the crew quarters. She seems half-awake and grumpy, as if she didn't sleep well. She stops in the galley looking for coffee.
"Thyste snores." she grumbles, by way of explanation to the cook. "I mean, everyone was snoring some, but that halfling... I wouldn't have thought it was possible."
She shakes her head ruefully and slurps.
"I would have bet the gnoll would be the noisy one." she muses, half to herself.
Ulretha
|
"There's some kind of creature in the room at the other end from the one with all the supplies and things on the bottom floor of the boat. It's big but whatever it is isn't a herd animal. Watch your back," Ulretha says as he comes into the bunk room, likely interrupting Lidia's handiwork and talking to Thyste's sleeping back.
He finds the biggest, most comfortable bunk, taking his time with it then strips out of his armor and putting it, his shield, his hammer and his other weapons underneath.
Someone might be tempted to steal them, but they're going to have to figure out how to get them and get them back without losing a hand to a set of powerful hyena jaws since Fazingar and Crezobill sleep on the floor on either side of the bunk.
Onnikka takes up space on the bunk and, from the way she watches Ulretha, she isn't entirely convinced he should get to be in it.
In the morning, he has to be rousted out of bed, not because he's sleeping like Thyste but just because he doesn't want to get up. He moves much quicker if food is involved, though. He takes the time to get his armor on again, reviewing a book as he does so.
Then, up on deck, he enjoys more than his fair share of fish.

"Really? Maybe the captain will give me a look. Maybe its a dinosaur! I like dinosaurs the best."

"There's some kind of creature in the room at the other end from the one with all the supplies and things on the bottom floor of the boat. It's big but whatever it is isn't a herd animal. Watch your back,"
Lidia narrows her eyes dubiously.
"Why would they have a large animal locked up in the storage room?" she asks.
Lidia*
|
"But why lock a pig up in a storage room? You were on mucking duty yesterday--did anyone ask you to clean up after a pig? Either they're hiding something, or whatever is in there is dangerous."
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste shrugs. "I'm not all that worried about it. If you're going to transport something big, you're not just going to have it walk around on the deck," she says, "and if it's dangerous to other animals... heck, even if it's just a bull, I'd keep it away from the cows, you know?"
Lidia*
|
"There's a stable full of horses up here on deck. Why not keep it up here?" persists Lidia. "And why lock it up?"
She turns back to the gnoll. "Ulretha, are you sure about this?"
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
Thyste clears her throat. "I'm just saying, you keep the stallion away from the mares if you want a safe journey," she points out. "We're not exactly in wide-open spaces."
Ulretha
|
"Yup. I didn't see it but I heard it breathing in there. And if I could hear it breathing, it had to be big. When I knocked, it didn't make any noise, so either it's sedated or it's a predator. Something big and prey would make some kind of noise out of fright or warning or curiosity," Ulretha answers.
"Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think it's sedated. Even if its a predator, it would be tearing things up in that tiny space with no wind and light coming in."
| GM_Grandlounge |
You hear Bloodtusk's booming voice, "Alright everyone up on deck. Time to shove off. You all know what to do anchors up, oars in the water, unfurl the sails, then nets down. Help the new people if they get confused."
Cooking: PCs can assist the boat’s cook, Gashnakh, in preparing meals and cleaning, stocking, and maintaining the galley (area A4). A successful Profession (cook) check or Intelligence check
Fishing (four checks): PCs can help haul in the day’s catch to feed the crew. A Profession (fisherman) check, Survival check, or Strength check is required to haul in the boat’s fishing nets. Four nets are cast into the river each day. Oorug aids you in this +2.
Lookout: PCs can watch for hazards from the crow’s nest atop the mast. Three Climb checks are required to get to the crow’s nest. A successful Perception check is required to see hazards.
Rowing: PCs can spend 5 hours rowing the keelboat in the rowing banks (area A11). This requires Profession (sailor) or Strength check. The PC must also succeed Constitution check or be fatigued at the end of the shift.
Sounding: Helping the keelboat’s pilot avoid the shallows along the riverbeds requires a successful Profession (sailor) check or Perception check from the forecastle (area A3).
Stable Mucking: Maintaining the horses and stable (area A2) requires a successful Handle Animal check, Profession (stable master) check, or Ride check.

Thyste eats quickly, but when Bloodtusk says it's time to go, she gets a single piece of toast to hang from her mouth while she's late to school the crow's nest.
She hustles up the rigging-- with a penalty for fatigue:

Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Kinda don't like my worst check being the last one! Hopefully it's an easy climb, since it's designed to be climbed...
| Thyste Fox-Tailed |
...I completely forgot that Take 10 was probably an option. Presuming she 1: falls and 2: isn't prevented from trying again, I'll take 10 on the next three climb checks.
Lidia*

Grumpy and sleepy as Lidia is feeling, she doesn't bother to continue arguing about the animal in the closet, but nods when Ulretha expresses his thoughts. She looks out toward the river, perhaps wondering why she ever agreed to board a boat.
But when the captain's voice calls out, she moves immediately to the forecastle and resumes her duties, looking for rocks and shallows. Her attention drifts periodically throughout the day, but never for long.

Gashnakh thanks Ben, "I will be keeping these on hand. Thank you."

Ulretha
|
It is a fortunate thing that Ulretha cannot see Thyste. It hasn't occurred to him to duck out on work and take a nap. And while he'd never rat Lil' Foxy out, he would certainly start working harder to figure out a way to skip out on work than he would ever actually do the work he's assigned.
Instead, he starts looking down at the water, catching himself after certain moments as he realizes he's leaning on the railing and straightens up.
He looks around for any signs of fish and starts casting the nets.

tUlretha has an unproductive morning; either the river is devoid of fish, or there is the odd snoring noise that is scaring them away. Meanwhile, Ben is keeping up with the stables, but in his quick interactions with people is finding it hard to pull any information from the crew.

About 3 hours into the workday, the sound of the wind starts to change. Suddenly three blue scaled flying dragon-like creatures swoop the ship using the sun at their back to obscure their approach.
