Being closer to the level above everyone begins ducking into the closest doorway. You find yourselves crowded together in a small room with a hutch of ravens in one corner and a door leading deeper in on the other. The demon for its part flies about staring at the doorway you went into but it does not bother with the dimorphodons.

Ignoring the shadow demon outside...Ravens. There were ravens in the sawmill. Perhaps they use them to communicate. Not ignoring the demon, why doesn't it go after Runt's pets, or us? Could it be an illusion?

Camil gulps, activating the ring of chameleon power, and steps outside, sneaking around the tower to get up to the next level. If he's not attacked by the creature, he'll go open the door.

Camil slips out and up to the top room. The smoky, filthy rooftops of the Shadow sprawl below this dizzying perch. The conical roof supports an onyx statue of an angel. Towering like a god, her weathered features are caked with grime, making her seem almost demonic in countenance. At the far end of the hollow space under the roof, in the angel’s shadow, is a nest of cushions, silk sheets, and other incongruously fine bits of decor.

Some of the others head into the gear room to seek out a way up without going outside leaving Runt and Zherxikas in the raven room. Although they are hopeful, the three find no passage to the top, just rusted gears.

Runt does not hear herself speak. Forest notices the other in the room with him (Isabella and Kizzy) do not seem to notice him speak they don't even glance at him.

Kizzy begins to say something, and realizes that they are in fact silenced. She tries waving to the others, pantomiming with her hands in an attempt to communicate. Finally she just emphatically points back to the door and rejoins Runt and Zherxikas, only to realize they are silent as well. On the plus side, no one can hear the string of curses she is speaking.

It begins.

Runt walks to the doorway to test the steps when a large thing with the upper half of a woman and the lower half of a snake appears before her. The eyes on the woman's mask glow green (Runt make a DC 15 Fortitude save).

DC 20 Knowledge Nature Check:

She is a Lamia Matriarch. A monstrous humanoid shapechanger.

DC 25 Know Nature:

A Lamia Matriarch has spell resistance and is immune to mind affecting effects.

DC 30 Know Nature:

Lamia Matriarch's can drain wisdom with a touch and cast spells like a sorcerer.

No one hears a thing. In silence, the snake lady then strikes with a spear like the snake she resembles. Once, twice, three times, then four stabbing ruthlessly at Runt. The first two puncture Runt's armor and blood pools at her feet from the heinous wounds (50 dmg). Luckily her armor saves her from the latter two thrusts.

Forest draws his shield but doesn't advance. "Nobody said anything about a snake lady. Maybe we should... go back inside."

Since it looks like she's flying, large, AND has a reach weapon, I don't think there's anything to be gained by trying to get into melee with her since she could just 5-foot-step away and be out of reach again. Move Action to Draw Shield. Standard Action to Total Defense. If she attacks Forest, use Two Stamina to increase shield bonus by 2. AC with the extra shield bonus would be 31/17/25.

This is my action if she's flying. If she's NOT flying, let me know and I might do something else instead.

Unable to cast spells due to the silence, Isabella uses her touch of good on Forest.

+3 sacred bonus on attack rolls, skill checks, ability checks, and saving throws for one round. If this goes after Forest took his action, it will persist to his next action, I believe, due to turn ordering.

No one hears a things, it is horribly silent. The snake woman is indeed flying just off the steps and is using a rather nasty looking long spear. You think there were some spots in the gear room you could hear yourselves but the raven room is definitely within a silence spell.

As Camil comes sneaking down the wall he sees the big snake lady outside the door with her scary looking spear. Does he continue to try and pass her and slip inside? If you decide to do so then will you be sneaking? If sneaking will you go full speed (climb speed of 20' with spider climb I believe) or will you go half speed?

I have tried to avoid using weapons, I much prefer words, or letting the warriors handle this type of thing, but here we are... totally screwed cause the singer is drawing weapons. Kizzy thinks to herself, worried about the wounds Runt took, she hoped she would be able to deliver a little payback.... ok, a lot, but since that was unlikely, she would settle for a getting a shot in.

She doesn't seem to notice Camil coming down the side from the higher floor but then again the rickety steps are somewhat in the way. Kizzy draws and fires at the snake lady who lazily moves to the side and a shimmering field about her causes the arrow to glance away.

If Forest was enlarged I could use my last Martial Flex for the day to take Lunge and be able to reach her. The real problem is, like, our entire party besides Forest is casters that are standing in a silence :P Quite the predicament.

I guess I could instead use Martial Flex to take Dispell Item Mastery and try to dispell the Silence. Item Mastery Feats are Spell-Like Abilities, so no Verbal Component. Or could target her and try to dispell her Fly spell, if she's using a Fly spell... That could be funny. Pretty sure a fall at this height is fatal...

I was thinking we just back off and let the creature come to us, possibly giving Runt time to heal too.

I think we have to keep Runt out of line of sight until she can heal some, in case there's a chain lightning or something similar in the mix that could RNG kill her. I dunno, this is a tough spot.

Hey GM, since we're still waiting on Zherx and Forest hasn't really done anything, could I change my action for the round? I missed that Isa buffed Forest and I don't want to waste it. I think I'd rather eat an AoO to get close enough to try and disarm her. If three of her attacks hit and she rolls average damage she'll kill Forest outright, so I think we just gotta go big or go home.
