Empire of the Sun - Table 2

Game Master Teiws Polka

A goblin fortress in the wilds of Ustalav, near Lastwall, leads to a mission of diplomacy by paladins (Dawn of the Sun) and the resulting Empire of the Sun applies kingdom building rules to an unusual creature in an unusual land during an unusual time (~4000 AR).

The goblins appear to understand the discussion well enough that when food is mentioned, small grins begin to form, and when booze is mentioned, you hear whispers of 'Bufo?' between the goblins.

Knowledge: Local (15) or Craft: Alchemy (15):
Bufo is a booze infused with frog or toad toxins. It's popular with monstrous creatures who live in swamps and marshes.

"Arrrgh! I don't get it!" Hadri looks increasingly frustrated at the prospect of bartering with them.

Borkandors rides a horse even if he doesn't even have a skill point in ride (you don't need to be invested in the skill for normal riding) because its more cooler that way and could freak the gobs

Also like Rodan, scouting rogue as well but more on the melee side. Bad melee side since his AC is bad.

"They're freaking gobs. Leaving them their limbs whole's better than whatever we give em now. Used to whip their scrawny butts back home"

The goblins look at the party discussing next steps, eagerly at Shintaro, who has earned their respect quickly, nervously at Hadri and Borkandors, enviously at Tura with that 'Bufo' word dropping from her mouth, and with uncertainty at Cole, Rodan, and the paladins.

"So asking what they want and need is a good start and I think Shintaro has ideas on what we can offer them, moving forward. So while Shintaro is being kind now, we may need to intimidate them and be unkind in future, but we don't know the state of our former allies. So maybe they are bound above a portal into the Abyss and should we take action prematurely it will end with their sacrifice and eternal damnation, but as near as I can tell, none of these are the evil-cultist sort of goblin."

"Protecting you will be easier the more goblins we disarm with our words and not our swords. We come together as unlikely allies, with orc and dwarf, sinner and saint, hobgoblin and Minkaian. It's not impossible we can redeem some of these goblins, and if the price is some food, spirits and trinkets, I value your lives more." Lar says with a sincerity that assures you how highly he values you all.

"We bear various offerings! We have much food to share, of various types! Though I am from a different land I have found it more than satisfactory, and from the size of my belly you know you can trust me! We also offer to share our alcohol, as we can magically make more! It again may not be the same as you know, but I assure you it gets you drunk! We also offer a magical bead that can create a campfire with only words, a source of fire that will never run out, again and again! In return we wish to hear stories of how you came to be here! Amaze us with your glory!"

The goblins seem excited by the offerings, with lips licked and bellies rubbed at the mention of food and alcohol. A few share a chuckle at the belly of Shintaro being evidence of the quality of the offer and magical fire seems to make their eyes dance with delight.

Gifts for our stories? The pack has grown from suffering. Longshanks came to our villages, and destroyed them. We are the survivors who were found and healed. As the pack grew, we sought a strong new home for our strong new pack. Our prophet lead us here and has had a vision of a strong pack. Now we are greeted by longshanks with one fluent in Goblin. Shintaro ignores the dwarf and looks to the gaijin paladins.

"Hm! They were apparently nearly slaughtered by humans or the like, but found a new leader, religious type. They now see our arrival as fortuitous, further proof of the blessings!"

"So there's a prophecy, and we're part of it? So I guess we could get details on the prophecy to better understand, or we could seek to speak to the prophet herself."

"Prophecy has brought us here. That prophecy is a double-sided coin is nothing new. The gods whisper secrets and plans and mortals try to follow them. I'm fine with charging forward but it's not wise. Then again, wisdom and I seem like distant acquiantances recently."

M Human Order of the Shield Cavalier (Constable) 2

"To be fair, their prophecy seems to be a vague 'follow me and things will get better,' not that that's automatically invalid!"

"Its because you're too polite to these #$%^&" the hobgoblin said, those familiar with the orcish tongue would also recognize the last word as something which was better not repeated for the sake of propriety. "Just demonstrate to em how low they are and they'll stop wasting our time thinking they are better than us."

Actually going to add since it probably isn't clear, I had the pallys but my a doggo mask from the 2500 g thing. Borkandors has been wearing it from the start so he can scare the goblins and so no one would see him as a hob until later lol

"And Hobgoblins look good on pikes, Humans are fierce breeding stock, Elves are vile tricksters, Halflings are great slaves and goblins are bringers of fire! So Don't judge them by what we were taught but what you see for yourself. Personally, they seem to be sitting pretty and they haven't tried to attack us, and seem eager for the chance of food!" Tura says bored with all the discussion about the Goblins and there worth.

"So lets' get them to tell us more and move on, I'm itching to get past this talk and get to the good part, you know fighting, then the celebratory feast after a victory! Over the spoils and your enemies dead!" She smiles eager to be done with all the talk, either lets fight or let's eat is her motto.

Male Human, Bennies 2 /3 Parry 4, Toughness 5, Wounds 0

Rodan just stands back and watches the bickering. He then looks at his mark of justice thinking:
How bad can it be , if I just walk away who would notice. No those paladins would make it some kind of holy quest to come after me. I guess I am stuck for now. But if something does happen, the goblin who is doing all the talking will get my arrows first.

As he studies the speaker.

Studied Target (Ex): A slayer can study an opponent he can see as a move action. The slayer then gains a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks attempted against that opponent, and a +1 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against it. The DCs of slayer class abilities against that opponent increase by 1. A slayer can only maintain these bonuses against one opponent at a time; these bonuses remain in effect until either the opponent is dead or the slayer studies a new target.
If a slayer deals sneak attack damage to a target, he can study that target as an immediate action, allowing him to apply his studied target bonuses against that target (including to the normal weapon damage roll).

"So Tura votes for a feast now, and Shintaro also, Cole is I believe open to the idea, while the other position is we're too nice to the goblins." So says, surveying the group.

"Kindness costs us little and may gain us much. Foot soldiers tend to think with their belly while generals may be more disciplined, and I believe that holds true for religious organizations. 'Join the church and we'll feed and protect you' is a universal promise of faith. Sarenrae does a better job than many in fulfilling it. Shall we go and fetch a light picnic or should we wait until we've moved to a higher echelon of the congregation?" Lar asks.

"He is going to fetch a priest, who then will either answer out questions and join the feast or determine that we are worth interrupting the prophet for!"

"Priest of what? This place reeks of Hadregash - no offense to our hobgoblin friend - but one of the tenets of that faith is tribal loyalty. We haven't seen that here with the intermingling of tribes. I don't know that any of the other goblin hero-gods would unite across tribes. This whole prophet structure is difficult to reconcile with my understanding of goblin religion."

Knowledge: Religion (10) - Hadregash:
Hadregash is the strongest of the four goblin hero-gods, and has the strongest relationship with Lamashtu, their patron and possible mother. Lamashtu forgives Hadregash his lawful nature and he's taught goblinoids, especially hobgoblins, to show deference to authority.

Knowledge: Religion (15) - Goblin gods:
The four goblin hero-gods (Hadregash, Venkelvore, Zogmugot, and Zarongel) are barghests and reside in the Abyss after their corner of Hell was brought to the Abyss by Lamashtu and joined with her realm, Kurnugia.

Knowledge: Planes (15):
The four goblin hero-gods (Hadregash, Venkelvore, Zogmugot, and Zarongel) are barghests and reside in the Abyss after their corner of Hell was brought to the Abyss by Lamashtu and joined with her realm, Kurnugia.

Knowledge: Religion (17) - Hero-God 2:
Venkelvore is the most beautiful of the hero-gods, and consort to Hadregash. Venkelvore hungers for the feast of sentient beings.

Knowledge: Religion (17) - Hero-God 3:
Zogmugot is the most wolf-life of the hero-gods and has a coat of magical fire for being the first to submit to Lamashtu.

Knowledge: Religion (17) - Hero-God 4:
Zarongel is the other female hero-god and determines which goblins drown and which survive. Her gifts are better flotsam and jetsam washing ashore to her faithful, many of whom drown from her faith and obsession.

Knowledge: Religion (20) - Hero-Gods and Lamashtu:
Lamashtu appears to have claimed the hero-gods from Asmodeus, and whether they are her children or servants depends upon whom you ask or believe. Goblin cults to Lamashtu sometimes exist because of the connection but knowledge of the connection is uncommon outside of the goblins of Thistletop, a ruin near Sandpoint in Varisia.
