You see a series of paintings underneath the phosphorescent fungi. The paintings depict a castle at the base of a mountain. Outside the castle, a large creature with wings and a long neck lies on the ground before a figure lifting a huge red axe over its head to strike. Other humanoid figures cluster around the scene. The mural is then interrupted by a repeated design: two mammoths with a smaller one in tow marching east. This motif is repeated over and over in an orderly line from the top wall of the cave to the bottom. There are 30 copies of this design.

The next scene shows the wielder of the red axe lying on a raised mound within the castle, his weapon clutched to his chest. Other figures leave the castle carrying large bags on their shoulders.

The drawings continue on the other side of the cave, showing an avalanche cascading down to cover the tower. The last drawing shows more of the humanoid figures standing over the edge overlooking the castle’s previous location, while four drawings of the moon in various states arc above the scene. In this last picture, all of the humanoid figures have a smear of white color around their lower faces.

Perception DC18:

The creature on the ground in the first painting was originally painted white, but that time has eroded whatever the painter used to show this color. The character brandishing the axe was also painted white, but around the face, suggesting a large white beard.

DC 15 Knowledge (history or local):

The axe-wielding figure in the first scene is different from the other humanoids depicted, as he is shown with a white beard, a feature uncommon among the Kellid peoples. The painting of the three mammoths symbolizes migration, and each painting of three mammoths stands for the passage of a single year. The moon in its various stages symbolizes eternity or a period of time that cannot be depicted with the migration symbol, usually meaning hundreds of years.

perception DC15:

Amid the fungi are the remnants of a long- decayed party of Kellid hunters who were snowed in the cave and died of starvation.

Good point; I shouldn't take that as a given.

Knowledge (History) check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

And it doesn't matter this time.

"That beard is interesting, now that I think on it. Kellids aren't known for their luxurious facial hair, so the gent with the axe is unlikely to be from these parts. That motif with the mammoths? That's indicative of the passage of time in this particular style of iconography--it's the annual migration, see, so each repetition indicates the passage of a year. The moons also denote the passage of time. It's an indeterminate amount, but usually long. So this tells us something interesting, hey? We've got our non-Kellid with a red axe, defeating a white dragon. Thirty years pass, he dies, and some folks leave his castle with goodies that don't include the axe. Then the castle is buried by an avalanche. A long time goes by, and now the castle's location is watched by people who commemorate the warrior and his beard by...wait a minute. By wearing white pigment on their faces...and who have we seen do that recently, hey?"

After the fight with the hungry creatures is over, Bon Jon hands his wands of cure light wounds and mage armor to one of his friends and asks them to use them on him.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Fully healed

I think we have someone who can use the Mage Armor wand? If not Bon Jon will attempt to UMD it.

Bon Jon gazes at the paintings in mystification and scratches his jaw. "Someone had a lot of free time!"

Looking through the loot left by the Kellids of long-ago, Bon Jon holds up the cloak. "I'll wear this if no one else wants it - it seems a bit better than mine." Bon Jon's cloak of resistance is only +1.

He also shakes the wand to see if he can figure out how it works.
UMD DC20: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
He smiles as it lights up on the first try and he notices that his feet are even quicker than before. Longstrider active for 1 hour. Oops, never mind, just realized that it doesn't stack with the monk's fast movement bonus, which is also an enhancement bonus.
"Here, anyone else care to try it?"

You are certain after your explorations that there are no other ways into or out of the cave, so you spend the night resting and making friends of the surviving raptor. Your map shows this only as a shelter, not your final destination.

Make your preparations and you can head out the next morning. I will move things on in a little bit.

At Jordun's question, Chamius shakes his head. "No dried meat on me, I'm afraid. Someone else in the Society once advised me to carry some in case I ran into raptors, but I thought he was joking."

By the morning, the storm has gone and you are free to set off again. Their path slopes downward as they approach a series of high, rocky cliffs on the edge of the Tusk Mountains. Near midday, Skagni’s map directs them through a narrow ravine of ice and rock.

The shriek of a snowy owl dances off the high, rough walls of ice and rock inside this gorge, and the long shadows inside make it feel like evening rather than midday. Although the canyon provides a direct path through the rocky terrain of this area, the other side is almost invisible from the entrance. In the snow drenched plains leading to the gorge mouth, primeval aurochs and bison paw at the new snow to unearth scrub grass.

You all notice some tracks leading in to the gorge. These tracks are humanoid in nature and go only a few feet into the gorge before turning around. Additionally, you find the remains, partly eaten by scavengers, of a large saber-toothed tiger.

DC15 Heal Check:

Despite being a top predator in this region, it appears to have suffered extreme bludgeoning damage as if trampled to death.
