Searching the room you discover that draining it from the water so quickly has probably washed away most of its contents not anchored down or to heavy to be easily moved.
Even so you are somehow in luck because after much searching you manage to find another elevator key struck under a few rocks, which prevented it from being washed away when you drained the water away.
Let's keep moving...
You once again operate the elevator and thanks to the key retrieved from the previous chamber you are able to get it one level lower.
The door to the next floor is partially open, but rough-edged chunks of rubble choke the passageway, blocking progress. After studying the passage you realize it will need a lot of work and the right tools to reopen this section. Therefore you elect to yet again move the elevator downward, and finally reach what seems to be the lowest level of this part of the complex.
As you leaver the elevator you notice a fragmented and fractured interior walls make a broken circuit around a large, square room more than fifty feet on a side and with a ceiling vaulted to a height of fifteen feet. Silty puddles of water conceal much of the floor's surface, and crusty, black flakes of sediment have accumulated where walls meet the floor. To the west, a set of stairs descends into a coarsely excavated cavern, and a trio of closed doors lines the north wall of the room. To the south, a narrow passage leads to the elevator carriage.
Place yourselves on the new map please

I'm happy to bot Quiella - Kiboko adventured with her recently so I think I have a feel for what she'd normally do.
"Kiboko is uncertain of the wisdom of leaving three doors behind us if we descend into the cavern immediately. Kelumur, perhaps we should check the doors out first?"

![]() |

Kiboko urges the rest of you to go check the 3 wooden doors located on the northern side of the hall, when the ghostly image of a hand appears in front of you beckoning to follow it to the west instead and as you enter the hall you can hear a feeble voice calling out:"Help! Help ME! I'm alive! Buried but ALIVE! Help me, PLEASE!"

Shardra follows Kelumur.
Hearing the voice of what is surely a dwarven brother or sister cannot be ignored!
"Let us make haste ... "

![]() |

Shardra and Kelumur move toward the western hall. An acrid smell permeates the natural cavern, and a thick coat of dust cakes nearly everything here. To the north, what might have once been a passageway has collapsed. Several inches of murky water cover the floor here.
The hand moves westward as well beckoning the pathfinders to folow while the voice gets more insistent and desperate:"Help! Please... HELP! My name is Shu-Lin-Foo, I am a pathfinder of the lantern lodge. The ceiling collapsed on me and buried me..."
From where Shardra and Kelumur are they can't yet see the woman naming herself Shu-Lin-Foo. Her voice seems to come from the westernmost part of the cavern.

Zeno casts spell detecting magic and notices how the doors to the north seem to have been reinforced via some magic, which he identifies as an application of Arcane Lock.
Kelumur follows Quiella while Shardra and Takahiro question the voice from afar.
After a moment of pause the voice answers:"My name is Shu-Lin Foo and I'm acting under orders from enture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch who sent me here to die it seems. My companions were the half-elf Marcetta Larch-Bough, the halfling Beetle and the dwarf Sandricaan Molnworret. Marcetta and Beetle went mad and killed each other. Sandrican went mad as well and blasted me with a spell which broke a part of the ceiling here and caused me to be buried. I am really puzzled about the caster level check. I don't see anything about it in the detect evil and I've never seen anyone require that before. The fact that we make the check instead of the GM making it in secret implies that our PCs should be aware they couldn't overcome some kind of spell resistance or protection. The only thing I can think of to trigger a caster level check is an illusion spell like Undetectable Alignment or something. But that doesn't say anything about caster level checks either; it seems like it should just automatically work.
Anyway I think it makes sense for our PCs to be suspicious here.

![]() |

A nondetection spell would force a caster level check for Detect Evil. But failing the check doesn't normally give you any information. Agree that circumstances very suspicious though - how has she survived those injuries?

![]() |

Quiella is gullible, but not too gullible to follow Takahiro's example. she will likewise use detect evil; first on the girl as a move action, them as per the spell in the area to look for auras, items, etc.

![]() |

If you want to go meta, here's how things stand: of course the situation is suspicious, I myself tried to describe things that way. BUT, you failed your sense motive checks (DC was rather high) AND there's an ingame reason for Takahiro's detect evil not detecting anything. Bottom line: you, as players, may rightly be suspicious of Shu-Lin Foo's circumstances. Your characters, given their rolls, not so much I'm afraid. She gave Shardra the right answers about who she is and who was with her ("forgetting" one noticeable detail though) and she seems trustworthy (failed Sense Motive checks), she does not detect as evil. As for Quiella's attempt I'd be willing to allow her a second attempt at Detect Evil but that needs another caster level check and Quiella knew that, next time please remember to do include your caster level check
Quiella's CLC: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
As Takahiro before her Quiella discovers the woman NOT to be evil at all...

![]() |

Quiella's caster level for Detect Evil should be 5, not 2, since it is a spell-like ability granted at first level and not one of her Paladin spells. With that said I wasn't sure what to add; it doesn't say anything about the caster level so I wasn't sure if it should include her Oracle levels or not. I should have looked at Takahiro's roll; my apologies. I reposted your roll bit with the modified caster level below
caster level check: 12 + 5 = 17

![]() |

Honestly, don't want to meta this and should be fair to the rolls and in game situation.
Kelumur will approach her and starts to dig around in attempt to free the Pathfinder. " A little hand?" He asks the rest of the group.

![]() |

"Kiboko will call an earth elemental - digging blindly may cause more harm."
Kiboko summons a small earth elemental with Summon Nature's Ally 2, and then commands it speaking in Terran to investigate the stone trapping Shu-Lin and tell him what he sees, then Kiboko orders the creature to help free the trapped pathfinder.

![]() |

I agree. If Quiella's 17 doesn't beat the spell resistance then she will dismount and pitch in

![]() |

Quiella's doubts vanish as she discovers the creature calling herself Shu-Lin Foo does not detect as "evil" when confronted with her divine magic.
As the pathfinders approach the partially buried woman, things suddenly change:
"Get them NOW!" Shu-Lin Foo says as she turns suddenly hostile and two figures,a very much undead halfling and an equally undead female half-elf emerge from their dark hiding places to attack the pathfinders!
"Roger that! It's time for lunch! Finally" screetches the halfling as he tries to stab Quiella!

The moment Shardra moves near Shu-Lin Foo and tries to heal her it's when Shu-Lin Foo calls for her allies to attack, so no, that does not happen. The same is true for Kiboko's casting as well.
