Hello sorry work has been busy so I didn't get a chance to respond properly until now.
Seems we have all 5 of you which is great!
Now that I have opened the Discussion thread let's do out best to keep the Game play for in character and Discussion for out of character.
A good range of races and classes for your group. I am in the process of doing several things before we start.
1. Set up some information for you that basically acts as your player guide. This would include a map of the area, rumours you have heard, general lore about the Lost Lands.
2. Finishing the Modified Inspiration rules. I'll still use the basic inspiration in some cases but the modified rules will be somewhat like Hero points. I might opt to push this off until later to see how the game flow goes.
As of now we are still on schedule to begin next week maybe even a day earlier (Mar 4 instead of Mar 5).

Just an update:
I'll be posting in the game play thread tomorrow morning to start us off.
1. You will have from me the Player's Guide. I will put this in my tagline. This table is abbreviated NTCDtW. I'm constructing it in PPT and will put it in Google Slides when I get home tonight.
2. Could everyone do me a huge favour. For your character please set up in your tagline (line of text that appears above your avatar pic) so that I can see your:
Race Class Level / HP / AC / Passive Perception (abbr it Perc) / Init / Active Conditions
You can put more info but the above I need as a minimum. This speeds things up for me when I am posting. A couple of you already have done so and for that thanks.
3. I will be adding Filios's character, Conner Hawthorne, to this group.
4. Everyone roll a d100 in the game thread. This will determine some rumour your character discovered while traveling likely about Rappan Athuk it could also be somewhere else in the Borderland Provinces. Rumours are going to be important when it comes to finding out what to do next.
4a Not all rumours will be local they could might take you to a far off area. I will be rolling random wilderness checks so encounters may come that could be overwhelming. Great risk does equal great reward. But trying to run or hide can sometimes be the best option.
4b Please remember these are rumours they may or may not be true.

Great start all. Just some notes about my posting.
My most frequent posting times are during M to F between 9 am EDT to 5 pm EDT.
Evenings I try to post but it is difficult due to other commitments at home.
For this campaign I'm going to post in Acts/Scenes. There is no set number for either, but I believe it will help to break up time and events in a logical manner
If I think there is need I will typically push the story forward please continue any roleplaying you are doing it should not stop because I've decided to move on to the next scene.
That being said we are close to moving into the next scene.

Have now added PC slides in my tagline under my avatar. This will include combat maps, handouts and likely treasure found as well. The last slide will be PC information (token, name, HP, vitality, conditions of the permanent nature)

Agreed on the reveal. Having dealt with Mirkeer (even though most do not know that), Mistra is not going to cast judgement on someone. Though she is curious about the seeming lack of confidence from a notorious race...

Tieflings are a rare breed in the Lost Lands or at least those who cant blend in with humanity.
Those born with physical traits would likely be cast out by most (i.e., left to die) or at best looked on as an ill-omen and avoided by the majority.
I would say each player should choose how they look upon this new found information about Penance's true identity.
In truth, some might not even think she is half-fiend having never seen one before. However, common townsfolk will likely do their best to run her out of many a settlements. Cities might just ignore her depending on the make up of the populace and the strength with various churches. Followers of Muir and Thyr might not be as ready to open their arms to a tiefling that is unproven.

No one's really insight checked Aric, but with shipping happening, here's a brief glimpse at his thought process
Bandits shot a lot of arrows at Aric and only one hit. Clearly they were frightened of him. And they stopped fighting after he spoke to them. Even more proof that they're frightened of him, because only fools let up when they've got such a good advantage. So clearly the wards they're making (at Penance) are for him, because he's clearly the scariest thing around.

In Aric's mind Marlowe is too scared/weak to try and stop them and too weak to complete the job on his own. Because Aric is mighty. And doing Marlowe's job will show how mighty he is.
Despite not having landed a hit on the spider. The spiders haven't hit him, so they must be scared of him too! Aric truly is fearful.

Just wanted to update you all on the Status of the Game.
Schedule:
My work/home schedule has been crazy. Currently I am in a few other games as a player that are close to wrapping up. So my posting time feels erratic right now.
For this campaign I want to make sure it keeps moving along. To help in this going forward I'll be making at least one post Mon to Fri (excluding Canadian holidays) in the afternoon between 2 to 4 pm EST. On days where I can't I'll post in this discussion thread letting you know. Weekends and holidays I can't commit to making a post but I will try when I am able.
Play style:
I can't have a game without players so if you ever have a suggestion/comment that you would like to tell me let me know either PM or in this discussion thread.
My goal is never to hamstring your character, but there will be times where I might make things not as easy for you as you would like it. I hope from my posts you recognize that I value communication between my players and myself.
Following the end of this combat I'll be making a post to assist with how combat is run in this campaign (movement, using map, flanking, etc.)

Screw it. I'm going to multiclass. I was going to take the feat Magic Initiate, and this gets me everything I want from the feat now. Seems worth it to me, and I hate waiting for these things builds to really come together.

Multiclass Spell Slots
Lvl 1: 3 spells
Ritual Casting
You can cast a wizard spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell in your spellbook. You don't need to have the spell prepared.
Arcane Recovery
Once per day when you finish a short rest, you can choose expended spell slots to recover. The spell slots can have a combined level that is equal to or less than half your wizard level (rounded up), and none of the slots can be 6th level or higher.

Yay for rituals! This should give Valghaz alot of versatility, so he ends up casting more than just the few spells he has used thus far. As for what he is doing? He will know a number of runes which he will add to his armor and weapons. This was what I was going to do to explain magic initiate, but it'll start now instead of lvl4.
For familiar, I'll be taking one that will be doing the 'help' action for advantage in close combat. Trying to make Valghaz into a front line fighter. Any advice on which familiar would be best for this?

Simple level up: 2 Eldritch Invocations, HP, two spells slots instead of one, and one more spell known.
Eldritch Invocations Selected: Fiendish Vigor and Devil's Sight
Fiendish Vigor: Cast False Life at will as a first level slot; 1 hour of 1d4+4 THP.
Devil's Sight: Can see 120' in any level of darkness
HP: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Question for the spell known: can I take the Healing Elixir spell from the Starter Spells Unearthed Arcana?
Question on the Fiendish Vigor: if we have more than a minute uninterrupted can I be assumed to have cast it with max effect, or should I roll it out every time?

I’ll update in a bit with what spells I’m taking.
Update: Got Font of Power, HP up to 16, and I'm taking Burning Hands as my new spell. Thought about swapping out something, but I think I'll keep them as-is for now.

Elixir is broken but if you want it then you can only create a maximum 1 vial per half your class level (min 1) in a 24 hr period.
Fiendish vigor you can roll 5 and take highest value when you are in a dungeon-crawl environment. In wilderness you can be assumed to have max value following any rest. If you are being pursued and you want to cast it you'll need to roll.

Understood and thank you. I hadn't considered that Elixir could be used multiple times - just that we went through a lot of healing and I could not contribute. So that's actually a power boost in my eyes!
