Let's start mustering up and introducing ourselves, shall we? c: Please take a look at the Campaign Info tab and prepare yourselves accordingly!

I'll get this info in tonight, when I have access to my sheets.
Yates Ashkoont
|
Hey-oh! Sedoriku here. I'm making a new character with a boon that allows me to start him at second level. He's mostly has a character sheet together but I still need to get purchases and a few other things together and he probably won't be ready until Monday.
I can post chronicle details as soon as I finish his character sheet. Yates will be using improvised weapons almost exclusively, and has a style feat that allows him to treat the weapon as two size categories larger.
| GM Hiyami |
That sounds fun! If you're sure about who you'll be playing with, feel free to start engaging the others in Gameplay. As long as we have a handle on him, I think it'll all work out. :3
Ilathor Valmaxian

Chronicle #: 6
History: A Venture Captain's protege and aspiring Azlanti Historian
Player's Name: Gummy Bear
Character's Name: Ilathor Valmaxian
Faction: Liberty's Edge
PFS #: 74244-16
Current XP: 5
Current Prestige: 8
Current Fame: 10
Current Gold: 209
XP TRACK: Normal
Day Job roll: This is his Day Job
Botting procedure: If there is one foe: Round 1 cast True Strike, Round 2 make a disarm or trip attempt with Whip (no proficiency), so the attack roll has a +15 modifier. Three or more foes get a Color Spray (assuming my knowledge check informs me that their creature type isn't immune to mind-effecting). All else fails, he has a wand of Magic Missile CL 1 that he'll fire at the most critically wounded foe.
Are there any details for the GM to keep in mind? I don't think so!
Angry Magic Tree
|
Since my first choice for this scenario is busy defending a village somewhere in Tian-Xia, we're going to bring this little bundle of joy and twigs instead!
Chronicle #: 4
History: A (K)Night of Taldor, this vine leshy doesn't really understand people and why they yell so much - but she's happy to yell right back at them!
Player's Name: Hawthwile
Character's Name: Angry Magic Tree
Faction: Grand Lodge
PFS #: 264524-17
Current XP: 3
Current Prestige: 4
Current Fame: 6
Current Gold: 491
XP TRACK: Normal
Day Job roll: None
Botting procedure: Get up front, get real mad, swing that greataxe 'round 'is head!
Any details for the GM to keep in mind: Disruptive Bloodrage increases the DC to cast defensively in her threatened area by 2, and Raging Vitality means he can continue spending rounds of rage while unconscious (and hopefully avoid the dreaded Sudden Barbarian Death Syndrome).
GM, can you mark Brakkik off this table?
| GM Hiyami |
@Angry Magic Tree: Just unchecked Brakkik - please let me know if that didn't work. I haven't tried marking people off of tables before. c:
Tok Taket
|
Chronicle #: 1
History: Traveling vagabond
Player name: Fromthedepths

Faction: Dark Archive
PFS#:2358532
XP: 0
Prestige: 0
Fame: 0
Gold: 9
XP track: normal
Day job:none
Botting procedure: Sneaky ranged and melee where available, if up close and personal slash and trip with his sickle then get outta dodge.
| GM Hiyami |
Excellent! It looks like we've all at least checked in. c: We'll be officially starting tomorrow!
That said, please go ahead and place your tokens and snag your marching order here!
Yates Ashkoont
|
Chronicle #:2
History:Ex-Absalom slave
Player's Name:Sedoriku
Character's Name:Yates Ashkoont
Faction:Liberty's edge
PFS #: 108507-10
Current XP: 3
Current Prestige: 6
Current Fame: 6
Current Gold: 28.98 gp
XP TRACK: Normal
Day Job roll: ... Whoops didn't take any day job skills!
Botting procedure: Grab what ever is handy and smash itt until it stops moving! If nothing else presents itself he has a sledge on hand just in case, but that's personally the most boring and probably overpowered option as it deals damage like a huge size earthbreaker.
Are there any details for the GM to keep in mind? Yates deals damage with any improvised weapon like it was two sizes larger the progression chart of which is here.

If we flop on trying to convince this guy to help us, I can storm off to "get my appointment confirmation." I'll walk into a nearby residential building, forge a document saying we have an appointment (only a minute per page to forge) and see how it goes.
Waze
|
But what can be the stuff we got in the beginning we are suppose to use now? Except the letter.
Xavier "the Drunkard" Elington
|
I mean, it could be the deck or the potions, but I would rather not use those up immediately either. But if the forgery doesn't work, we could use them to walk in there anyway.
| GM Hiyami |
Remember, you received the scroll tube of letters, too!
I'll advance us in about six hours. c:
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
I'd just show the scroll tube, but they were pretty clear we would lose it then, right (which is undesirable from our employer's POV)? As far as I can tell, we've been holding off from using it so we don't have to part with it.
If we can just flash the scroll/seal, I've no qualms with using it right now and getting to the library.
Angry Magic Tree
|
Or maybe we can pull the letter out without showing the seal?
Waze
|
Yes, that's what I was thinking as well. Is it a Sleight of hand to do it?
| GM Hiyami |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Nope, you can just carefully pull it out. c:
Apologies for the delay, guys -- had some family shit pop up!
| GM Hiyami |
So I'd like to give you a bit more time for Perception checks and the like, but also we should keep moving, so assuming the others don't post, I'll roll Perceptions for 'em. Having said that, how will you choose to proceed?
Waze
|
Is Yates still playing? I think he hasn't post since the 11th March.
| GM Hiyami |
You know, this is an excellent question. I'll go ahead and PM him. I didn't realize how long had passed. Thanks for noticing that. @_@
Ilathor Valmaxian

Woah! I'm so sorry y'all, idk how this game fell through the cracks for me! GM, please feel free to bot my skill checks whenever needed!

Hey everyone,
You might have noticed I haven’t posted in a long while (okay it’s only been two weeks at most but in PBP time that can still be a while.) I didn’t have an amazing and earth shattering emergency or reason for not posting, which would have made this easier to post. Life just got… busy and stressful.
I knew some stress would be coming and that I might be a bit busy, but things well exceeded what I thought. At first I was just busy (and to be honest, a little lazy) and didn’t post for a day or two, but things starting snowballing and I soon realized I hadn’t posted for days and needed to post something longer and more explanatory than a quick apology, but I didn’t have the time, motivation, or emotional fortitude.
One thing I sometimes do when stressed is become avoidant of some things, especially things that are emotionally charged. Last week was one of the most emotionally draining weeks I have had in a long time. Monday started with seeing a friend of four years off because she has stage four cancer and had to go back to the UK. I had to say goodbye to students and teachers I have taught/worked with for years (which can happen any year but was harder than usual this year.) Having to say goodbye to people is something I handle terribly and I was often going home drained and not wanting to do anything or just wanting to sleep. Additionally, the longer I went without posting here the guiltier I felt about it, which made me want to push this off further.
I shouldn’t have stopped posting here and I am truly sorry if I have made anyone wait, slowed down games at all, or have caused you any worry. I am physically okay, and will be emotionally okay, and work has slowed down some (next week might pick up a little but nowhere near what it was.)
I would love to continue playing Yates, if you’ll allow it after such a long delay (Two weeks, eeek!).
Sorry if you have/had to read this a few times, I’m posting it in all of the games I am in currently.

What should we do about this lion? 0_o I don't really have any ideas. We told it who sent us, is there something we are missing here?
| GM Hiyami |
I think AMT just nailed it c: The module expects you to attempt to impress the lion, to befriend it in some way. Thus far, it's been ignored by several members of the party in favor of books, which would normally be fine, had it not demanded you step closer.
This guy starts out as indifferent, but the way he's written is decidedly more arrogant and demanding.
Remember, this particular adventure is a sneaky game - you should actually be a bit alarmed that there's something sentient in this place that's seen you all in case he roars an alarm or informs others of your presence.
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
Lol I thought by "respectful" it meant it couldn't be raunchy or something like that! I'll give the others some time to respond before attempting again.
| GM Hiyami |
LOL! That's an entirely reasonable expectation to have! Forgive me for not being clearer, haha!
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
GM, what sort of check would it be to know what the hell this lion is and what a "suitable receptacle" would be for it?
| GM Hiyami |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I would say... you're looking at a spellcraft to learn more about the lion itself and as for a "suitable receptacle"... Well, that item needs to be safely capable of taking on whatever the lion's packing. Looking cool, of course, gets it bonus points.

Since you're juggling three angry cats at the moment, GM, could we put some markers on the rooms? I was thinking something like:
- Opened (door is open, but no examination has happened)
- Examined (at least one phase looking through books)
- Fully Examined (no clues remaining)
- Restored (books put back, no trace hiking)
If that's too much extra work, let us know and we'll see what we can do to help. I'm just having a hard time keeping track of everything over the extended duration of a PbP game.
| GM Hiyami |
@AMT: Let me take a crack at it and see if I can't figure something out to help. c: Thank you so much for pointing this out to me - I was just worrying about this.
EDIT: I've added colored borders to each of the clues and numbers to the map. The numbers are how many clues you obtained from the room they're on. The colors correspond to the colored borders of the clues themselves! I hope this helps!
@Tok Taket: In the spoiler, I've noted that the bolded may act. c: The books have acted in this post and presently, both you and Yates are free to act. Xavier has come around and is looking to help, so he'll be inserted into the initiative in the next round...
Splitting the party does strange things to timing.
I hope that helps. @_@
| GM Hiyami |
I'm sorry for disappearing today, guys. I'm super frazzled. I was going to post like normal and give you the heads up that I'll be out for the next few days (friend's wedding!), but I also just learned that payroll dun derped with my paycheck so I got paid for 1/11th of the total amount I was supposed to get and it's been a royal mess.
Also, it's been the kind of day where what I planned to post got eaten. I'll try to have something up tomorrow, before I leave, but I wanted to let you know I haven't forgotten you guys and I'm super sorry for not posting today. x_x
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
HA! What a day that must have been! You didn't need that money anyways, right? ;) Good luck and have fun!
| GM Hiyami |
You guys are the absolute best. Thank you so much for your patience! c: Post incoming!
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
Welcome back! Is there a knowledge check to learn more about the Angry Book Swarm?
| GM Hiyami |
Thank you! c: You're looking to make a Knowledge (arcana) check!
| GM Hiyami |
You guys are 100% on the correct track! :D There are several more clues scattered throughout, though -- where else have you seen phrases like that?
Ilathor Valmaxian

General siftings from our prior pages:
The room with the secret door to this place has a picture of Grand Prince Stavian III ("wearing an especially smug grin"). "A cunning lie is never told twice." found in this room.
The room with the caretaker has a picture of Grand Prince Stavian III ("stoic").
The room in the NW corner has a picture of Grand Prince Stavian III ("magisterial authority") on it's eastern side.
The room in the SW corner has a picture of Grand Prince Stavian III ("dour") on it's north side. "To serve Taldor, I must first learn the history of Taldor" found in this room.
6 Lion Statuettes (Made a mistake earlier, Ilathor said there were 5!):
One crouches as if preparing to ambush its prey Perhaps a match with lying?
The second is roaring as it leaps at its target
The third wears a yoke that is chained to a large block that the lion strains to pull
The fourth wears what appears to be a tiny pair of spectacles and reads from an ornate scroll This looks like a match with learning Taldan history.
The fifth is draped in the flag of Taldor
The sixth sits erect and wears a crown Sounds like magisterial authority to me
Figured since we have the blessing/curse of playing this in PbP, we'd have to sift through our posts anyways to gather all the potential clues. Any other thoughts or something I missed here? I'd post this in gameplay, but Ilathor was not there for most of the findings and our companions have been quite silent in terms of pictures and their plaques ;)
Waze

So, in agreement with the pictures of Grand Prince Stavian III, we should use the statues "Cunning", "Stoic", "Taldor" and "History"
The one crouches should be "Cunning"
The third should be "Stoic"
The fourth should be "History"
The five should be "Taldor"
But in which order to put them? I think "History" should be the first as it is said "I must first know the history of Taldor". Then "Cunning" because of the "twice"? Then "Stoic" and last "Taldor"?
Do you agree? Did I miss something?
Ilathor Valmaxian
|
That sounds like a good plan to me! I'll give others a chance to chime in before Ilathor goes ahead and moves the statues.
