GM Aerondor |
Galant can find little of interest... or value. Some unfaded patches on walls where once paintings hung can be seen.
The whole place stinks of "once was rich".
Fillia Bloodstone |
"Ughh...Can we go now.. Seems like there's nothing else here...." Fillia groans out being one of those more affected by the cloud....
Meirdrarel Alanodel |
"Seems like we already have what we need and nothing else is worth taking." Meirdrarel tries to look around one last time though.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
GM Aerondor |
And now we return you to your rather sad party...
With a copy of the ledger in hand, the team heads back to the party. But the atmosphere has changed in your absence.
No music plays, and instead of idle chatter, the air is filled with dread and whispers. A smattering of broken bottles and glasses lie in pools of golden liquid just a few feet away from three figures lying on the floor: those of the bard siblings, Kaba, Kora, and Kitt...
Meirdrarel Alanodel |
Meirdrarel immediately tries to discern if anything magical is in the room casting Detect Magic. He moves towards the golden liquid.
GM Aerondor |
The room lights up to Meirdrarel's eyesight. What collection of pathfinders would be without a magic item or three?
Listening in, it appears the investigation has already started!
The Pathfinders here have already identified the cause of the illness: the wine glasses the three were using had been laced with poison. Shock. Horror.
Thordir |
Thordir immediately begins looking around for Venture Captain Roderus, who must be working on the investigation already. Perhaps he would need some assistance in putting the pieces together about why the bards had been murdered.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
GM Aerondor |
Thondir notices a disruption at the back of the hall. "We've got him!"
Galant quickly checks the bards. They are unconscious but not dead. Quick work by the pathfinders on the scene have stabilised them, but they won't be doing any more singing tonight.
A kicking and screaming Zig is dragged through the crowd.
"We have the poisoning goblin. He even had the bottle still on him!" calls out one excited pathfinder.
"Not me, not me, not me!" calls out Zig as he is dragged away.
Galant the Gray |
Galant sights of relief and prays for the quick recovery of the bards, happy that they are not dead.
He turns to Zig. We will not harm you Zig, don't worry. I don't think you are capable of such deception. Do you know why you have this bottle on you?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Lybram Tendras |
"This whole night has been one confusing calamity." "I think nothing is simply as it appears." "Things I thought would be difficult, were not." "Yet, easy tasks turn sinister."
sense motive on Zig: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
GM Aerondor |
Zig is dragged away before Galant can really get a word in with him. "Don't worry, the situation is well under control." you are reassured.
Roderus approaches shaking his head. "I had such high hopes for Zig. Did you find any evidence?"
You see Dougle looking around the mess that has been left as the party starts to break up, eyeing you all up and pointing, pointedly to some brooms.

Filla is unable to believe that Ziq is the culprit and thus elects to follow as best as she could whole staying out of sight and watching out for anything else suspicious.
Nothing to do about cleaning up. No sirree.
Thordir |
When Roderus approaches the group, Thordir directs him to Galant. "We did find some papers describing Phlegos's recent dealings. Galant is holding onto them now. When we retrieve them, though, a dretch was summoned into the room. Sir, I fear the venture-captain's methods are perhaps even darker than we had previously thought."
After delivering this report to Roderus, Thordir follows the implied command from Dougle. He knows that a servant can sometimes be the least observed person in the room, so he hastily seizes one of the brooms and begins cleaning up while listening intently to see if he overhear any idle chatter about what happened or who might be responsible.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
GM Aerondor |
Roderus takes the documents. "I'll examine these tonight." he adds as he retires to his office.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
The keen eyed Dougle blocks the door as Fillia tries to slip away, handing her a mop and bucket. "The jakes need a clean too. You'd think that pathfinders who can put an arrow between the eyes of a dragon at 200 yards would be able to aim better." he adds wearily.
Cleaning up takes another hour or two, after which Dougle provides you all rooms to collapse into.
Oh, a map. Must be a fight coming up right? Or is it? New map up with very spacious rooms for your pathfinders to sleep in. Put your figures in there and let me know any paranoid precautions you might be taking. Likewise if you are going to sleep in your armor (for who knows what reason) make that clear.
Of course you might just want to collapse, tired, into bed for a good nights sleep in a friendly lodge.
Galant the Gray |
After cleaning for what it seems hours, Galant is happy to see the end of the day!
Nevertheless, he tries to get beer in the lodge before getting to bed and shares is tankard with his roommate.
No armor
Having raided a lodge, he proposes to put a chair in front of the door, in case someone has the bad idea to try to wake them up during the night!
Lybram Tendras |
"With the funny business of tonight, lets have one person on watch at all times. If Thordir, Flaith, and Fillia each took a 3 hour watch, I will gladly take the final one." "It never hurts to play it safe." "Agreed?"
Lybram will not sleep in armor, but will have his axe and bow close at hand. Plus a dagger under his pillow.
Flaith Festung, called Löwin |
Taking her time to clean her armor of dirt, Flaith takes leather oil and rubs it vigorously into the straps of her armor. Then she takes of her shield and finally in a slow methodical measure of her blade, chanting prayers to iomedea as she does so.
Fillia Bloodstone |
Fillia's expression ranges from the mournful to utter dejection as she finishes her assigned duties. Cleaning herself up she begins setting up a tent in the room itself, using her blanket and the Lodge pillow to give herself something more familiar to one used to sleeping among tall trees.
No armor. Cause it's a friendly lodge
She sets her equipment beside her and takes a comfortable position to sleep...
Thordir |
"Yes, I think a watch could be a good idea, Lybram. This should be a safe place, given that it is a Pathfinder Lodge, but tonight's events do warrant extra caution. I'll take first watch."
Staying up the first 3 hours, then sleeping without armor. Glaive is propped up beside the bed and handaxe is ready under the pillow, though.
GM Aerondor |
You all settle down to a well earned (if not willingly earned, for at least one of you) rest.
Even Thordir has dropped off to sleep, although not before waking the watchful Flaith when a hushed but emphatic voice suddenly breaks the silence, as if someone is trying to be heard without being too loud. The voice speaks in broken Common and is coming from outside the window. “Wake up! Wake up! Big men with big knives come for you! Kill you! Wake up!”
Flaith is awake (though likely not armored, unless she really wanted to wake up the inn with getting into her armor in the middle of the night).
Flaith, if you can make a DC 15 perception check, everyone else can get a round of preparations.

Then, from the window comes a hail of crossbow bolts. For a moment the team wonders who would be firing a crossbow through a 2nd story window. But there will be time for that thought later.

She adopts a squatting position, ready to nock an arrow.
GM Aerondor |
Galant manages to avoid the worst of the tanglefoot bag, while Lybrma rolls to his feet.
Low light vision unfortunately only helps extend how far you can see at various light levels, not mitigate the penalties of them. On the plus side, I'll say no AOO for 'standing' due to the concealment of your tent. He will get one if you fire though.

Flaith almost cuts the assassin that dared assault her in half. He collapses to the ground.
Fillia can change her action if she wants; Essentailly you can have two rounds of action.
Thordir stands, attracting an attack from his assassin. Both Lybram and Thordir takes hefty wounds from their attackers.

The first attack was an aOO from standing. The second was his normal attack. But actually looking at the map, I may have mistaken Thordir for Meidral. And my spoiler post up there has messed up the dice rolls too. grr. Sorry, my mistake here, but for the sake of continuity I'd like to keep the action where it is.
Thordir cuts down his opponent with a single slash of his glaive. He does notice a potion with "healing" sitting on the assassins belt as the man falls.

The figures on the ropes swing through the windows as the group congregates in the middle room.
"No harm, no harm. Father sent to warn you." explains the first rather short figure. Another goblin.
GM Aerondor |
Eventually three come in, one from each window.
"Father is father. " explains the 'talky' goblin, as if to a very slow student. Or maybe it is just his broken common.
"Father wants to speak with pathfinders. "
"About Zig" chimes in another goblin.
"And Phlegozzz" adds in the third, not wanting to be left out.
"And the poisoning..." continues the first.
They take out six small, head sized sacks.
"You wear these. Keep father safe from pyring eyes." states the lead goblin firmly.

I am a little lost here. Were the goblins the thugs or did they help us with crossbow bolts? I am not clear who did what. Could you clarify a little?
"what in the weird world???" "Assassins and goblin and goblins that might be assassins. I not going anywhere without armor."
