Welcome to 1-12 Ashes of Discovery written by John Laffan & Crystal Malarsky
Scenario Tags: Repeatable & Starship - Levels 1-4
When a major Pact Worlds organization approaches the Starfinder Society about investigating an abandoned outpost in Near Space, the PCs get assigned to the case. Travelling to a distant world, surmounting dangerous threats in the void of space, and meeting new alien cultures—this mission is about everything the Starfinder Society embodies.

Ashes of Discovery is a replayable scenario designed to help introduce players to what it's like to be a member of the Starfinder Society. With randomized mechanical and story elements, when you play this scenario, you'll never play the same scenario twice.

An OOC place to present your PCs, and to see if you wish to organize/balance the party, purchase things (like spreading out getting tool kits, library chips...).

Exo-Guardians

4th level bombard soldier here.

Acquisitives

1st level Operative here. Anxa's character, thanks for the invite!

Day Job/Prof (Corp Agent): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo)

Hi there! Laniakea is my envoy/Steward who enjoys meeting new aliens. :)

Grand Lodge

Welcome Kei'jon, and Anxa.

And put your avatar up on slide 3

Link is up on top left of page: Sideshow Slideshow

We should have 6 players.

Dataphiles

Dayjob(smuggling): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Dataphiles

Level 4 technomancer here. Profile needs a little updating as she has just finished a scenario.

Exo-Guardians

As it stands, the player who has not reported in yet might very well decide what tier we play.

Grand Lodge

Hello Laniakea & Numina 6 )))
And welcome Chetna Wavari!

I got a PM from our 6th, who has a little sad emergency, and should be hooking up with us in a bit.

Soldier 4
Op' 1
Steward 2
Outlaw 2
Techno 4
--and I believe it is a techno 1 that is joining, which would make this Tier 1-2
(as Kei'jon pointed out, if lvl 2 then you choose, and lvl 3 or 4 you go up... if my calculations are correct).

Exo-Guardians

According to the math (regardless of his level) it is 2.something. Therefore we get to choose. I will leave the decision up to the 1's and 2's as is my policy if there is a decision to play up to be made, as it can affect them the most (especially the level 1's).

Grand Lodge

You only choose if exactly 2.5.
If less it goes down, if more it goes up.

Exo-Guardians

Ah, I see. I misread you post.

Acquisitives

Well see, if we have the choice I say go big or go home. It's not an adventure without risk... Tier 3-4, with a healthy dose of caution.

Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo)

Laniakea is 3 now, after the Protectorate Petition.

Grand Lodge

So, with a more experienced Laniakea:
Soldier 4
Op' 1
Steward 3
Outlaw 2
Techno 4
so, if our latecomer is level 1, it is your choice.
If level 2 or more you are in Tier 3-4.

In case he is level 1, voting for the choice to save time:
• Kel'jon abstains to let the lvl 1 & 2 vote
• Smek votes for playing up in Tier 3-4

The others may speak up...

I will start getting the intro' out today so we can greet our last PC and calculate Tiers while getting started.

FYI from the SFS Guide 1.1:
DETERMINING AVERAGE PARTY LEVEL
In order to determine which subtier a mixed-level group of PCs must play in, calculate the group’s Average Party Level (APL).
APL = sum of character levels/number of characters
Divide the total number of character levels by the number of characters in the party, rounding to the nearest whole number (this is an exception to the usual ‘round down’ rule). If the result of the Average Party Level calculation ends with 0.5, the players should decide whether to round up or down.
Scenarios are designed for six characters and contained methods to adjust for tables with four players.

Dataphiles

If we have a choice I will also defer to the lowbies.

Dataphiles

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hello all. Apologies for the delay. Yes, Technomancer 1 here and even as a 'squishy', I'll be glad to play up if the group wants to.

And, for anyone that cares, a Cat Cardiologist is a real life thing and my ageing cat has arrhythmia but it looks like he'll be fine with a little medication every day. :)

Dataphiles

I'm fine either way.

Second Seekers (Luwazi Elsebo)

Having GMed for mixed groups and knowing the significant difference in power between tiers, I vote for DOWN to spare the would-be-out-of-tier characters.

EDIT: APL is 2.33 anyhow, so I believe that's down without a choice. EDIT EDIT: My reading is poor today.

Acquisitives

Sorry about your cat Elwin, hope he's ok taking meds or has his claws trimmed.

I think we can do 3-4. Elwin, I'll try to stand in front of you as often as I can, 0lvl spell - Summon Meat Shield. With this many higher lvl chars, tier 1-2 can be a cake walk...

Dataphiles

Thanks, Smek! Glad to be playing with you again! :)

Acquisitives

Agreed, good to see (read?) you again Elwin! ;)

Grand Lodge

Hello, Elwin, happy your cat made it! )))

So:
Soldier 4
Op' 1
Steward 3
Outlaw 2
Techno 4
Techno 1
thus 15 divided by 6 so 2.5, so you choose.

• Kel'jon abstains to let the lvl 1 & 2 vote
• Smek votes for playing up in Tier 3-4 [1 for up]
• Numina 6 abstains to let the lvl 1 & 2 vote
• Elwin okay for playing up if people want [semi-abstain, semi 1 for up?]
• Chetna fine with whatever [abstain]
• Laniakea votes for down [1 for down]

Nice!
We have 1 clear vote for up, 1 clear vote for down...

So: Elwin, do you want to vote for playing up, or remain more neutral and go with whatever?
Kel'jon, Numina, Chetna, do you want to vote?

Acquisitives

I'm not opposed to letting fate decide either, roll a die low roll tier 1-2 or high roll tier 3-4...

Grand Lodge

xD

I'll let you guys choose, but we can see if it all ends in a die roll!

Dataphiles

Go for up. I can be extra careful and Smek said he'd protect me. :) No sense in losing cash and items for my one level character. :)

Exo-Guardians

I can stay in front if need be. I have a few hp.

Grand Lodge

So, a second vote for up, and Kel'jon okay with this.

Unless someone else speaks up against, I will then go with your majority: Tier 3-4.
