PFS CORE - Vie Vsetko |
Sorry, losing track. Did we hit the room on the upper right of the map? If not, we should probably check that for completeness sake before we head to the basement.
If no one objects; Vie will take a Po CLW, 2 alchemist fire, and a sunrod.
GM TOP |
Everything upstairs has been checked, though no one has taken a super close look at anything on the snake table due to valid concerns about being attacked by a metal snake.
The downstairs has the thing Vie noticed around the piano and one tiny room near the kitchen.
I just went back to check the map and that tiny room doesn't have anything of value or interest. On to the basement or something else?
Dimple McSweetness |
I'm good with the basement
Kasvot Vaxt |
"Let's head to the basement... but, Vie, let's check out that thing that you saw by the piano on the way. We have to pass right by anyway."
Kasvot will also take a potion of clw, a potion of endure elements, and an alchemist's fire.
GM TOP |
No huge reason to drag out the secret piano stuff, narration incoming!
The group checks out the piano that Vie mentioned noticing an odd wire. Dimple is able to put it all together that the piano controls a secret something down in the basement. She fiddles with a few things and then the wire starts retracting. A grinding is heard from below the floor.
Heading downstairs the group quickly finds what the grinding was about as a portion of the west wall of the first room they see has been pulled up, showing a hidden room behind.
But, before they can get to that, they have to negotiate a flooded storage room. The steep stone stairs they are on descend into a vaulted cellar flooded with turbid water, in which dozens of wooden barrels idly float.
Map is up, details about the terrain are there.
PFS CORE - Vie Vsetko |
Surely the water table isn't that high? Where did all this water come from? And who builds a house basement without drainage? {sigh}
Before we wade in, let me check for opposition.

Saving Throw Will negates; see text; Spell Resistance no
Description
You detect surface thoughts. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area or subject.
1st Round: Presence or absence of thoughts (from conscious creatures with Intelligence scores of 1 or higher).
2nd Round: Number of thinking minds and the Intelligence score of each. If the highest Intelligence is 26 or higher (and at least 10 points higher than your own Intelligence score), you are stunned for 1 round and the spell ends. This spell does not let you determine the location of the thinking minds if you can't see the creatures whose thoughts you are detecting.
3rd Round: Surface thoughts of any mind in the area. A target's Will save prevents you from reading its thoughts, and you must cast detect thoughts again to have another chance. Creatures of animal intelligence (Int 1 or 2) have simple, instinctual thoughts.
Each round, you can turn to detect thoughts in a new area. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks it.
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot looks at the wet basement with concern. "This doesn't look good... not at all. Not my forte!" He partners with Vie, scanning the area with detect magic as far as he can into the room and beyond.
GM TOP |
Oh that is a neat trick Vie!
Vie moves down to the landing, squeezing with Liet-Gar so that he can scan the whole room. Nothing jumps out of the water to attack him or the half-elf and after a minute or two of scanning the whole room, no minds appear on his radar.
He swaps out with Kasvot who checks for magical auras, with similar results of nothing found.
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot looks to Liet-Gar. "I hate to offer you up like this, but if there is a threat... you should probably go first. You'll definitely get to the other side fastest of all of us. And you can probably survive an arrow or two if somebody's hiding on the other side to ambush us." He shrugs his shoulders. "I'll be back here, ready to try to put anything that tries that to sleep... or something."
Liet-Gar Zirulak |
With a shrug, LGZ pokes the water a couple times with his blade before leaping in and trudging through the bog. Encountering a first barrel, he hops up...
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
"Come on in! The water's decent." he calls back with a smile.
that is of course assuming a 22 gets him on the barrel...and he hasn't been eaten already. ;-)

The half-elf splashes down into the water and then quickly dashes over to a barrel. Fromagalli sees the wake of something moving over towards him under the water but at the last second he hops up onto a barrel and attempts to balance carefully.

MWK Cold-Iron Ranseur: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 for Piercing: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 = 8 x3 crit

Fromagalli will add great idea or bad idea as appropriate and hope Vie has a means of casting glitterdust again
If I’m standing where vie needs to be will move out the way drawing cold iron dagger. If not will draw dagger and use arcane bond to cast true strike for the third time today

Glitterdust would hit and possibly blind whatever thing is under the water.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Excitedly clapping her hands, "Ooo, THAT sounds like fun! Let's do that."
If anything is revealed, Dimple will cast Summon monster, calling ...wait for it...an adorable dolphin. It's a full round action, but seriously, how often does one get a chance to summon aquatic creatures that get to be useful?

Unfortunately, I can't do that again today. Let us see if this has any effect. Men hamma narsadan himoyalanganman! Ular bu mazali baliqni ko'rishadi!
Surprise round, cast shield on self. Regular action, cast Silent Image. Creating the image of a nice juicy injured salmon in the water right next to the disturbance of whatever it is.
It is a figment, so it is not mind affecting.
Kasvot Vaxt |
We're lined up on the stairs off-map. Do we need to wait for them to clear before we can act reasonably, or is it assumed that we can see the action from where we are?
If we can act, is the creature in the water visible enough that it could be targeted with magic missile?
GM TOP |
Unfortunately there isn't much space to see into the basement as it is quite flooded and the stairs lead straight down into the water. Pretty much only Fromagalli and Niza could see into the area at the start. I'm just going to say that Vie and Fromagalli are squeezing right now.
The creature also has total concealment, so no targeting of it from outside of the water. You can squeeze with Niza to get a look into the area or move past everyone into the watery stairs. By my count we have Kasvot up before the creature responds to the figment or LGZ. Dimple is delaying and Niza acts after the creature.
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot calls from behind. "What is it?!? What's going on out there?"
Delay; Kasvot's not the right PC to get in the water when there's a creepy crawly about. He'll wait until he can get on the stairs and assess the situation from there.
GM TOP |
Vie summons a delicious looking fish, floating it into the water as obvious bait. Liet-Gar dashes into the water, hops easily up onto and over the barrels, almost making it across the room.
The thing seems to completely ignore the fish as it chases under the barrels after the half-elf. One possible reason may be that it doesn't hunt by vision. It attempts to bite and latch onto the lower half of the elf's body as he wanders through the deep bog. But it only finds gross metal and not tasty meat and blood.

While speaking, Vie steps to the back of the group and touches Niza on the shoulder. Niza, you have Diviner's Fortune, gives a +1 insight bonus on hit, saves, skills, and ability checks for one round.
Fromgali, True Strike ignores concealment. Go for it!
Kasvot Vaxt |
Kasvot draws a wand from his belt, refreshing shield to protect him before going into the water.

Niza and Albis |
Niza shakes off a burst of fear and squares her shoulders. She mumbles something inaudible below her breath and slowly starts to transform before the eyes of her allies. Her skin takes on a greenish hue and she becomes decidedly more reptilian in appearance. Albis flies off her shoulder and soars around the basement as high as he can. Niza takes off into the water, swimming deftly, while drawing a dagger. She heads in the direction of LGZ.
Standard to cast Alter Self (transforms into a Boggard). Move to swim into action. Free to draw dagger.
Dimple McSweetness |
"EEWW!" She nearly retches. "Has she been that the whole time? Is she infected by the icky goblins? Did the baby bite her?"

_____________________________________________________________________
Niza shifts into a grotesque lizardy-frog creature and dives headfirst into the water, easily swimming through the murk. Albis takes flight well before this occurs, circling over the action.
Vie grants her a bit of foresight into the immediate future, in case she gets a chance to attack or do something else.
Fromagalli wisely launches the dagger towards the location he saw the creature last. It zips out unerringly guided by magic and everyone sees a small pool of frothy blood as the weapon strikes the creature. The half-elf catches the returning dagger then dives into the water attempting to get an eyeball on what the group may be facing.
The cowardly Liet-Gar runs away, leaving his friends alone in the water with whatever is there. ;-)
The critter takes a bite at him as he flees, but doesn't even come close to connecting. It turns and zips back towards the nearest real body in the water, attacking Boggard-Niza with equal success (aka not hitting).

”Its a bloodsucking beastie if it attaches to you get out of the water so we can all see it” He then tries to grab a floating barrel and remove the lid
this is with a view to trying to trap it in the barrel if it comes near him
GM TOP |
Niza stabs quickly, easily striking the creature. But everyone else just sees bloody froth rising from her position, not sure what is happening under the water.
Kasvot wades down into the basement water to get a better view and be close enough to act if he gets a chance. Fromagalli bursts out of the water, spits out some information and moves over to grab a barrel. He pries the lid off.
