Ok, I'll take the bonus save from ending Cudgels emotional bond, as I do not want to be staggered.
will save, you mean won't save haha: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20
And there it is. One attack. One. I want to pass ONE !@#$%^& WILL SAVE. I'm chaosed, and down a weapon, so its not even worth the reroll.

Syeira flies towards the beast directly underneath Omrax, accepting the AoO. AC is 31 on the AoO
Move Action: Fly 60 ft. to be adjacent to the beast.
I'm declaring my 2nd Impromptu Sneak Attack on this roll, so any Dex bonus it may be getting to AC is lost, and I get sneak attack dice (unless he's immune to SA or something).
Once in position, Syeira thrusts her rapier at the monster:
Standard Action: Attack with the Rapier

Steal the Ochre Ioun Stone... I'm not sure what it does but it's the shiniest looking: 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (4) + 34 = 38
The stout demon rotates in the air as Syeira approaches underneath, then swats her her with it's massive claw, imparting it's mythic power to overwhelm her with chaos. It also seems to be increasing its collection of ioun stones on the ground below.
Attack Chaos Reroll: 1d20 + 15 + 20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 15 + 20 + 6 = 45 Still hits, doesn't crit

The Man Behind the Curtain

Nobody has cast haste. Quaff has boots of speed. Also, I think you may be missing something in your math... 12 (BAB) +5 (Str) +5 (EO Bane Enhancement) -1 (Size) +6 (Smite) puts you at +27 without haste, so you may want to check your attack macros. I think you're selling yourself short. I'll wait to resolve this until I see Hania's post since Cugel's post has an if/else in it that definitely impacts the results here.
Omrax the Bold
|
Well golly. I must have hallucinations. I thought for sure I saw a haste cast. Ok so disregard the last attack. (Edit: I found the haste on a different campaign-lol).
Unfortunately, I think the math comes out the same as I get +27 and you had +27. I think I was missing the base+1 on his sword . So I think the rolls worked out by accident and maybe the first hits but not the other two. I had 2d6 for large sword vs your 1d10 . I hope it is right. I cannot come up with anything else without flank or aid or higher ground etc
The Man Behind the Curtain

Ok... so the chaos effect is a free action the Nalfeshnee takes after it damages you with an attack, so I think the spell-storing armor goes off before you're chaos'd. Now then, for the sake of consistency with the way I've run things so far, I'm going to resolve Syeira's turn, then Omrax's turn, then Cugel's turn using Hania's decision to be brave and glorious, then Hania's bot turn...
Syeira's armor discharges a pulse of force directly into the Nalfeshnee's chest, causing it to stagger back in agony. Crit confirmed! Touch AC is 15. Regular AC on the other hand... 40.
Omrax moves into position and begins to hack and slash at the Nalfeshnee, but every single attack seems thwarted by these blasted visions!
Cugel launches Hania around the back side of the Nalfeshnee, giving her enough momentum to plunge towards it blade first.
Attack Math: 13 (BAB) +8 (Str) +1 (Weap Focus) +5 (Enhancement) -1 (Size) + 6 (Smite) -4 (Power Attack) = +28
Damage Math: 2d6 +8 (Str) +5 (Enhancement) +13 (Smite) +12 (Power Attack) = 2d6 +38
Attack, Charge, Flank: 1d20 + 28 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 28 + 2 + 2 = 36
Her blade fails to pierce it's hide, but she follows up the charge with another radiant flurry of strikes.
Attack, Flank: 1d20 + 28 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 28 + 2 = 43
Damage + Extra Smite: 2d6 + 38 + 13 ⇒ (1, 3) + 38 + 13 = 55
Attack, PA: 1d20 + 13 + 8 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 5 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 8 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 5 = 44
Confirm?: 1d20 + 13 + 6 + 5 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 5 ⇒ (19) + 13 + 6 + 5 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 5 = 41
Damage: 2d6 + 38 + 2d6 + 38 ⇒ (1, 6) + 38 + (4, 4) + 38 = 91
Attack, PA: 1d20 + 13 + 6 + 5 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 10 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 6 + 5 - 1 + 2 + 6 - 4 - 10 = 22
Hania manages to strikes across the sides of it's neck leaving it horridly wounded... but it still... wont... die...

Good Lord that's a lot of calculating! Hopefully my maths are right! :) This is a simple charge attack this round, so bonus to attack roll and penalty to AC for this round. And sorry for keeping you waiting folks, I can't usually post until mid-morning with my schedule - though I do try and check the boards in the early evening when I can.
By the way, if it attacks any ally with a ranged or melee attack, Radek will use a Hunter's Trick (Vengeance Strike) as an immediate action to make another shield slam attack. I'll put it below in a spoiler.

Radek charges, shield first, straight towards the Nalfeshnee. With his trained hunter's skills and Shelyn's guidance he's able to land his strike cleanly at the demon's center of mass. The demon shudders and begins to lose consciousness. Hania and Radek find their strength sapped as something within the demon reacts violently with their spiritual core.
Fort Save DC 27 (vs an Evil Abjuration spell) to negate each of these:

As the demon strikes the ground, unholy tendrils wisping out from it's body dissipate and for at least this moment... in this small stretch of field... there is calm.
KRAKOOOOOOOOOM
That small bit of calm is interrupted by a massive explosion half a mile away. You really aren't sure what happened there...
The Nalfeshnee is unconcio- **THUD** -dead. Collect your stolen gear, heal up, and decide where to next! Options are the Glabrezu trio, or the swarm towers.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (13) + 19 = 32
Radek shakes off the demon's dying spell and raises his axe on high, celebrating the group's victory over the powerful outsider with a dwarven warcry.
He glances in the direction of the explosion, trying briefly to figure out what happened, though the adrenaline is still flowing and he pays scant attention. With another fierce cry, the dwarf shouts. "Let us deal with the trio of demons next!"
Perception Check: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (1) + 25 = 26
I'm up for that Glabrezu trio! But I'm fine if the towers are chosen by the majority as well. What is the duration of the Enlarge Person spell that was cast?

OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT
The Society’s finest have dealt a great blow to the demonic generals.

Syeira brushes herself off in the aftermath. "Seems like I'm ok." She taps at her upper right arm. "Guess this brand came in handy." She then casts a few last spells and puts her magical rod back into her haversack.
I'll cast my last Force Punch back into my armor, and my last Shocking Grasp into my weapon. I'll change the Shocking Grasp to cold and use the last charge on my Intensify rod to up the damage.
I'll also renew Heightened Awareness on myself off my wand.
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 7
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 38
As she surveys the battle site, she finds near the dragon her Ocher Rhomboid Ioun Stone. She picks it up and rolls it around in her hand a moment. She looks over at her friends, then towards the towering demons further down the battlefield. She mutters something to herself under her breath.
In Varisian, Syeira whispers to herself: "I guess I'll have to make do without you for the rest of this. I'll decide what to do with you later..."
She then slips the stone into her bag.

Same as last time, time spent healing will be counted against buff durations. Exact time between approaching and engaging your foe is uncertain, but given that most of you have fly spells cast on you, you can probably high-tail it there in 2-3 minutes. 46 rounds have elapsed since the end of the Woundwyrm encounter where many buffs were cast. Celestial form MIGHT still be active, the weapon boost nearly certainly will have expired, the fly potions will probably be expired before you even begin transit given the necessary healing and item recovery. I'll kick off the Glabrezu encounter either this evening or tomorrow.

Quaff hacks and slashes at the Glabrezu, quickly disrupting it's spell and wounding it greatly. The Glabrezu standing over the fallen crusader continues to torment him. "You are fallen... And rather than end your life, I offer you a token of my power. What say you?"
The crusader coughs up blood, then nods with the weary look of a broken man.
"You wish for your friend to rise again rather than face death at hand?"
He nods. "...I ... Wish ...it"
The Glabrezu bellows laughter. "Let it not be said that the Cavorting Court does not keep its word."
It clenches a fist, and the dead crusader gets to his feet... Or at least a dark sprirt does... The wounded crusader screams in agony as he witnesses the undead spirit rise... And is promptly torn to pieces by the ghostly figure.

Omrax rushes forward and the Glabrezu snaps a pincer at him as he closes in.
The furthest one eyes Syeira, apparently seeing through her invisibility.
"And what plans do you have? Hiding behind a rock? With cheap tricks to conceal you? What did you think you were going to do? Do show me... and you lot?" It raises a pincer and waves at the largest concentration of foes. "...leave us be... I shall see what she wishes to do..."
Hania, Quaff, Cugel, and Radezk, will save DC 21 vs Confusion

Dang - that time it was the boots of haste which got me. Technically, then Omrax would be about 10' further back...but since you already took the AOO, we can call it a wash? And I apologize again.
Omrax grimaces as the large claw slams him viciously.

Syeira glances over to Quaff across the battlefield before acknowledging the demon. She raises her off-hand to cast a spell.
"That's, fine. We can do this the hard way."
Standard Action: Casting Fireball right on top of blue. Using Versatile Evocation to change it to cold. Reflex DC is 19.
SR Check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Move Action: Move 40' NW-ish. Trying to get closer to Quaff while not waltzing into a charge lane.
EDIT: Since Quaff beat me to the punch, and did a pretty thorough job of it, I'll change my target if he's dead. I'm also changing my move direction.

Will Save: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22
Well, just barely but I'll take it.
Running low on spells, and trying to conserve what I have left in case there's more to come. It seems we have this fight well in hand, so if any of the others fail the save against confusion I will cast break enchantment on them no, that has a one minute casting time, duh, I'll have to do Dispel Magic instead, otherwise I'll go on delay in case the situation worsens.

Will Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23 vs Confusion
Includes +2 racial bonus vs spells/spell-like abilities
Radek shakes his head as though to clear it, then grins nastily and moves in on the demon, his axe and shield held at the ready as he approaches with surprising speed, seeming to be in one place at one moment and then another in the next. "Yer next te become no more than a smear o' paste on th' ground, demon!" The dwarf bellows as he slams the readied shield into the fiend's chest.
+5 Shield Slam Attack: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (10) + 25 = 35 vs Green demon
Includes -1 Large Size, +1 STR bonus for Large Size, attacking with 10' reach
Shield Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Includes +1 STR bonus for Large Size
Use a hunter's trick [Chameleon Step] to move twice normal speed (60') as a move action, then standard attack with shield slam (no Bull Rush though). If the demon attacks an ally on its turn, will use another hunter's trick [Vengeance Strike] to take another shield slam attack as a free action. That attack is below in a spoiler.
+5 Shield Slam Attack: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (4) + 25 = 29 vs Green demon

Syeira and Quaff work to tag team the next Glabrezu into oblivion, but it's reinforced hide makes it able to resist enough damage from both the axe and frigid blast that it remains upright.
The demon standing over the corpse of the crusader bellows laughter. "Now for you..."
It takes a lumbering step forward and begins to claw into Omrax and Hania.

Almost on cue, the corpse of the slain crusader shudders as it's spirit rises as well, reaching for Omrax's ankles.

The prone one you did not have smite active against. That one is 'new'
Omrax, with a trio of cuts, dispatches both of the shadows before they can drain him further.

Because of reasons, I'm going to just push ahead and open this round up to everyone.
The staggered demon suffers a serious wound from Syeira's frigid rapier, but manages to grab at her shoulder as she closes in.
AoO: 1d20 + 22 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 22 - 4 = 19 Miss
In a fit of frustration it swings wide with a clawed pincer, sweeping from Syeira to Radek in one motion.
Cleave vs Syeira: 1d20 + 22 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 22 - 4 = 37
Damage: 2d8 + 10 + 8 ⇒ (8, 8) + 10 + 8 = 34

Crit Damage: 2d8 + 10 + 8 ⇒ (8, 2) + 10 + 8 = 28
Cleave vs Radek: 1d20 + 22 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 22 - 4 = 28 Miss
Its strike at Syeira is returned with a quick blow from Radek, but the slash catches the dwarf on the flank and leaves quite a mark on his armor. Thankfully, no wound is left behind.

OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT
The Society’s finest have dealt a great blow to the demonic generals.
The host of Demons seems to have lost coordination as they engage along the battle lines, with the Generals mostly cut down and the siege engines still firing, the horde starts falling apart.
The demons go into retreat or are cut down by the crusaders and Pathfinders who swarm those foolish enough to stay. With the host in retreat, the defenders also start recovering the injured and slain.
The dust settles as surviving Pathfinders find their way back to the Starrise Citadel. Dozens lie wounded, some bearing injuries that may prove fatal. Smoke chokes the air as crusaders continue to douse still-burning buildings whose flames are now mercifully under control.
Venture-Captain Jorsal silently walks up and down the lines of Pathfinders. He rarely speaks, only giving an understanding nod or a comforting smile. The arrival of a squad of battered crusaders from the center of the city breaks the grim moment. At their head rides a stern woman bedecked in shining full plate engraved with intricate gold filigree. Her weapon is coated in what must be demonic ichor, and several of her helmet’s once beautiful blue plumes are charred. This can only be Queen Galfrey, crusader queen of Mendev and leader of Nerosyan.
She brings her entourage to a halt and addresses the assembled Pathfinders. “Words cannot express the gratitude of Mendev. What your Society has done here today goes well beyond what duty required. I have learned that this attack was just one of many in a coordinated assault against all of Mendev, and that our wardstones have failed us, disabled by some demonic treachery. Our city only stands thanks to the efforts of those such as yourselves. I have spoken with Venture- Captain Jorsal, and Mendev shall do whatever it can to aid you in reaching the Sky Citadel of Jormurdun—so long as doing so does not interfere with the new war".
“Now, I must depart for the city of Kenabres to inspect the damage done there. Woefully, it did not have the benefit of the Pathfinder Society’s assistance when it was assaulted, and all reports indicate the city is now completely ruined.” She pauses, worry visible on her face before concluding, “Thank you, all of you for your efforts here today.” Without another word, Queen Galfrey and her entourage turn and leave. The remaining Pathfinder survivors stand united, under the still-brilliant light of the Starrise Spire.
Unable to breach the walls of the city with their primary army, the demons have broken into a full retreat. The crusaders are ready to strike back against the demons. Congratulations Pathfinders on your overwhelming victory!
Table GMs - please feel free to close out any dialogue and allow the players to resolve any outstanding business, and close off in your own time. Thank you for GMing!
Players, thank you for your participation, I hope you all had a ball and take away some memories (fond or harrowing) and see you next time!
The Man Behind the Curtain
|
An eerie silence begins to spread across the battlefield as the most powerful demons teleport away, and the lesser demons are quickly slain. You look around... the walls of Nerosyan stand, but at what cost? Is it a time to celebrate, or a time to mourn the fallen? After wandering the field of battle, helping the wounded, taking count of casualties, and clearing out straggling demons, you feel pretty good about today. The forces you faced could have done far worse than they did. Today is definitely a day to celebrate.
Congratulations in contributing to an Overwhelming Victory! This chronicle rewards 15000 gp, 2 PP, and 1 XP and comes with the following boon:
Defender of Nerosyan (Overwhelming Victory): The city of Nerosyan stands in part because of your actions, and Queen Galfrey herself has taken note. While in Mendev or the Worldwound, reduce the cost of purchasing a Prestige Award while outside of a settlement of 5,000 residents or more by 4. You gain a 10% discount on any magical items that require a spell with the Good descriptor as a spell prerequisite. This discount does not stack with other discounts.
I'll get chronicles out Tuesday, but feel free to go ahead and get your characters updated if you are considering hopping into something else soon. I hope you all enjoyed this scenario as it was both the first special I played in and still quite possibly my favorite of them. I hope I did it justice for you as my GM did for me years back when it was just released.
