GM Dennis |
Where to next? Nigel, you can decide whether or not you drank the water, even if we've moved on.
GM Dennis |
Giovanni moves down the hall toward the next door which, like all the others in this temple, is made of heavy stone and sized for a giant. On the far side of the wide hall is an ominous-looking crack in the wall.
The walls within the next room feature mosaics of a stylized cyclops wearing an ornate one-eyed mask and commanding other cyclopes. In the carving, the cyclops places the mask upon other cyclopes to reverse several ailments, including blindness and even death. A large slab in the northwestern corner holds only dust, but a smaller shelf above it bears a one-eyed mask.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Kn History: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Giovanni searches his memory for anything that would help with the matching of masks and cyclopes.
Goode Getta |
I don't trust that mask, seems awful convenient... Goode voices while eyeing the thing warily, if any of you finger wigglers can find anything out about it before touching it, that'd probably be a good plan.
Cel Corona |
"I am... fine for now." Corona will use Detect Magic to analyze the mask for auras.
Spellcraft, Sickened: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 11 - 2 = 25
Perception, Sickened: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 9 - 2 = 19 Corona gets a +4 bonus to finding hidden items or passages.
<You can't get of me that easily.>
Tabris Nyx |
Tabris joins in the analysis as best he can, renewing his own divination magic.
Aid Another Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 If we can't aid on Spellcraft then it'll be a second attempt. Edit: Well of course.
GM Dennis |
Sorry, meant to include this in a spoiler with my post.
The mask has a familiar magical aura, even if it’s form is unusual. This is a lesser veil of fleeting glances. It functions as a veil of fleeting glances, except that it does not grant the +4 circumstance bonus on certain saving throws.
There is an additional lingering magical essence, however, one that gives a feeling of restoration and healing. This lingering magic seems old and frail, however, and there’s no telling how many times it will work. You think that, were it placed on someone who had been blinded or petrified within this temple, the mask may be able to remove those conditions. The user will have to make a Will save, however, or risk burning out the item.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Giovanni contemplates creatures that may petrify or attack with a gaze.
kn arcane: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Giovanni recovers the one-eye mask on the smaller shelf.
GM Dennis |
Giovanni wracks his arcane knowledge to think of creatures whose abilities might cause the cyclopes to create such a mask.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
These cyclopes likely faced Basilisks or Cockatrices often if petrification was a hazard. Brass dragons can cause blindness as well. These are not creatures we would like to meet unprepared. Giovanni continues the search in the room, focusing on hidden compartments or doors.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Tabris Nyx |
"A useful tool for us then. The Society will be pleased to have it." Tabris growls, watching the hallway for other dangers.
GM Dennis |
Giovanni finds nothing else of note in the room. Where to next?
Cel Corona |
Corona takes the mask. "Someone should wear this, it will protect you against the creatures Giovanni mentioned." She leaves the room and moves east. "Shall we try this room next?"
Perception, Sickened: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 - 2 = 25
Guided Eyes (Su): Perception is always a class skill for you. In addition, whenever you make a skill check to see through a disguise or find something that is hidden or concealed, you gain a +4 sacred bonus on the check.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Giovanni is content to progress to the next room. He looks over the door for traps.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
GM Dennis |
Corona and Giovanni examine the door thoroughly, finding no traps or other concealed secrets. When opened, the room is shown to be an empty crypt, very similar to the one you just looked in but lacking any body or other identifying marks. This room does not appear to have been used.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Giovanni has a once over the room but decides it's not very interesting. He moves to the next door and also looks it over before opening.
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
I hope I'm not moving too fast, I just happened to be at my computer a lot. I'm a little anxious to open the door here with the team spread out on the map, any way we can regroup before we open? Not sure everyone has had a chance to weigh in or update their position.
Tabris Nyx |
Likewise, I’m trying not to push us through too fast. The series of mostly empty rooms does make for a rapid burst of progress however.
GM Dennis |
Giovanni finds nothing unusual about this door. I'll pause here before 'opening' it to give everyone else a chance to catch up.
Tabris Nyx |
Tabris taps the butt of his scythe on the stone floor as he follows. "We will have little else to deal with but the construct if these rooms remain so simple."
GM Dennis |
Alright, I moved the last few tokens over; we're going to keep moving.
Initiative:
Giovanni: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Corona: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Tabris: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Goode: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Nigel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Christina: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Dylph: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Red: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Green: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
This wide room has two alcoves to the west and east. The western alcove bears mosaics of a burly cyclops with a flail and shield. In one image, a human with a conical hat hands the cyclops the flail; in each other image, the large cyclops is smashing fiends or serpent-headed humanoids with it. A large slab in this alcove is empty, but a shelf above it contains a fine-looking heavy flail and a steel shield. The smaller alcove to the east contains two slabs; above them are depictions of a pair of cyclopes servants tending to the burly cyclops’s needs.
As the door opens, you hear what sounds like four creatures hissing at you, angrily. Looking inside, you see the source: two large serpents, each with a head at both ends! They hiss at you again, then move to attack!
For every 5 by which you beat the DC you may ask another question.
Initiative!
Dylph, Goode, Giovanni, Corona, and Nigel may act.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
kn arcana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
What is its AC?
Well, well. Amphisbaena, a mighty strike may cut them in half but they will continue to function independently. If I'm putting things together correctly, that flail may be quite useful here. Someone should try to grab it.
Giovanni steps into the room and sends a glob of acid at the snake.
acid splash vs FF touch on RED.: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
damage: 1d3 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + (3, 2) = 7
Cel Corona |
Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 9 - 2 = 21
"Amphisbaena. Two headed creatures. Be careful if you wield slashing weapons- a critical hit may split in half. I know about its Special Attacks, just one moment."
She begins casting Enlarge Person. "Tabris, may I enlarge you? Or would anyone else like to grow?"
This spell takes 1 entire round to cast.
Tabris Nyx |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Tabris will GLADLY accept becoming an avatar of Gorum for this fight if no one else needs it. :)
GM Dennis |
Special Attacks: Poison on its bite. AC: 19, FF>>T.
Dylph |
Dylph will move 10' east and fire at red through the open door...
Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 + 1 = 22
Magic/Cold Iron/Sneak Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + 1 + (6, 1) = 16
I'm on mobile and can't move my icon right now...
GM Dennis |
Giovanni's acid splatters onto the one of the creatures, eating away at its scales. Dylph follows with a well-placed arrow to the same spot, taking advantage of the softened defenses to bury his missile deep in the creature's flesh. Blood begins to trickle from the wound.
Both attacks hit, and both seemed to do full damage. Goode and Nigel may act (I sent PMs to both yesterday. I'll put them in delay if neither posts today so we can keep a move on.)
Goode Getta |
Once again, fighting starts... Goode mumbles with barely contained fervor. He runs up past Tabris, twisting around the corner and taking a blind shot at the green two-headed snake.
Pistol: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Using a grit point for Flash and Shock, giving me a +4 circumstance bonus to AC
GM Dennis |
Attacking as he is before the snake can react, the creature is unable to dodge Goode's snap shot, the bullet just catching the beast. That just hits flat-footed touch.
Nigel may act.
Mr. Botitron |
**BZZZT** "Botting for Nigel:" **BZZZT**
Nigel steps forward and summons an eagle, which appears next to the red creature, attacking immediately! Including Augmented Summoning.
talon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
talon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
GM Dennis |
One of the eagle's talons is able to scratch the surprised creature, but neither of its other attacks breaks the creature's tough hide.
The green creature slithers around the corner and tries to bite Goode through all the smoke and flash:
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.
The red creature, meanwhile, lashes out at the suddenly-present bird twice, slithering forward a step as it does:
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Confirm?: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.
Because of Nigel's prowess at summoning, the eagle survives the first attack. The second one, however, sends it right back where it came from.

Initiative!
Whole party may act.
Cel Corona |
Corona finishes casting Enlarge Person and directs it upon Tabris. "Now go and crush all in your way!" She giggles uncontrollably, a radical change in demeanor from her usual self.
"Burn! Burn!" Corona aims carefully at the Green-tinted creature trying to bite Geode. A bolt of flame leaps forward at it.
Fire Bolt, Sickened, In Melee: 1d20 + 2 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 2 - 4 = 1
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
The flame is nowhere close to its target, but that seems to excite her further.
Tabris Nyx |
Seeing the far serpent delayed, Tabris rolls his arm into an underhanded throw. The scythe spins through the air at scaled menace, the blade failing to cut through flesh before it flies back to the dhampir's hand. As the transmutation takes hold, Tabris bares his yellowed teeth at the snake menacing Goode.
Scythe on Red: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Scythe Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9
Move up and attack red, then using the enlarge spell to get close to green.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Giovanni sees the team pool focus fire on the other creature. He dashes across the room to help stab it to death.
Acrobatics to not provoke on move: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Giovanni attempts the stab after he's found himself a clever spot.
rapier, flanking: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 2 = 12
damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (5, 3) = 17
boo
GM Dennis |
Corona, Tabris, and Giovanni attack, but none of their blows are able to land. Giovanni tries to move into position to get advantage from his allies, but to his surprise, the two-headed creature seems to be able to track both at the same time! They are immune to flanking.
Dylph, Goode, and Nigel may act.
Dylph |
Dylph will fire twice more at red...
Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 27
Confirm: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 18
Magic/Cold Iron Damage: 3d6 + 3 + 3 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2, 1) + 3 + 3 + 3 = 14 (Only 5 if not confirmed)

Magic/Cold Iron Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4
...if red drops with the first shot, the second will go at green...
GM Dennis |
Dylph connects twice (18 does not confirm the crit), but the beast persists. Goode and Nigel may act.
GM Dennis |
The red creature slithers forward (provoking an AoO from an enlarged Tabris) and (if it survives the AoO) attacks the enlarged dhampir.
Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.
Green, meanwhile, spreads its attacks out, one at Giovanni and one at Tabris.
Bite vs. Giovanni: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.
Bite vs. Tabris: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Please make a Fortitude save if this hits.

AoO w/Power Attack on Red: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Scythe Damage: 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (1, 2) + 13 = 16
GM Dennis |
Tabris destroys the red creature as it approaches! That bite from Red never happened.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
fort save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Giovanni stutter steps at the snake-creature attempting to shake it's attention and stabs with a rapier.

SA damage if flatfoot: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
Cel Corona |
"I can't sew your wounds shut from back there, silly!" Strangely jubilant, Corona sticks her grey tongue at Giovanni and prances behind Tabris.
She quickly converts one of her clerical blessings into Cure Light Wounds to heal the dhampir.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Tabris Nyx |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 - 1 = 16
Tabris hisses as the venom strikes his veins, turning the pain into fury as he whirls on the second. As the scythe passes, he snaps his misshapen jaw at one of the necks as well!
Power Attack Scythe on Green: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Power Attack Bite on Green: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Bite Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The crystal pendant flares as the healing energy is converted, soothing the fang wounds the beast inflicted.
Dylph |
Dylph will now fire twice at green...
Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 26
Magic/Cold Iron Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6
Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 2 = 13
Magic/Cold Iron Damage: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5
GM Dennis |
Giovanni's rapier strikes the confused beast in a vulnerable spot, as he shakes off the venom from the bite. Tabris, too, is unaffected by the venom, but his attacks are less precise and the creature is able to dodge them. As Corona heals Tabris, Dylph lets fly two arrows, the first of which strikes true but is not enough to down the beast.
Goode and Nigel may act.
