The trap must have set off some sort of spell which is the cause of the painful disability.
Opening the door reveals a corridor of mist that opens into a large entry hall. Across the hall, three demonic stone faces as tall as humans leer at visitors like a scornful greeting party. Each has an open mouth, extended tongue, and slightly different features from the others. From left to right they are blue, yellow, and red. Between the huge faces, two staircases lead up 10 feet to a balcony that overlooks the entire chamber. A set of ornate stone double doors is set within the wall to your right and another set is up on the balcony.

Give me a moment.
~detect evil~ on entirety of room
If nothing-If you are up for it Pnin, have a look at those doors on the right. We should check those before going up to the blacony.
Pnin |
Pnin takes a look around the room, carefully inspecting the ceiling and the floor and the doors (once bit, twice shy)
Perception: 1d20 + 22 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 22 - 4 = 28
Kael Cullen |
Start with the door on the right. Sometimes evil is so strong it lingers in an area. I would guess it has something to do with these demonic faces. We sure they aren't trapped or magiced?
Pnin |
I cannot be too sure . . . that last trap took a lot out of me. But I will proceed with caution.

use magic device: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
DM Darkvision |
Sanrael notes that each of the demon faces are unique, the one in the center has feminine features and the one to the right a beard, perhaps they are tributes to specific demons? He can discern no particular purpose other than decorative.
Pnin has to apply a bit of force to unlock the rusted locking mechanism of the door which relents with a screech.
Opening the door reveals 25 life-sized statues of warriors in ceremonial armor line the walls of this enormous chamber. A pattern of nested rectangles marks the smooth stone floor. Stone walls stretch up forty feet to wide slabs in the ceiling that bathe the whole chamber in bright light. Huge double doors mark the far wall about 50’ away.
Pnin |
Pnin mutters: Hope we don't have to fight 25 stone statues . . .
He takes a walk around the statues and looks for traps:
Perception: 1d20 + 22 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 22 - 4 = 20
Kael Cullen |
That is one brave cat-man.... I was thinking of checking the other doors first...
Don't wander off too far Pnin. One against twenty-five seems like bad odds, even for you. Detect magic if you would Curral.
~detect evil~

sanrael checks doors....seeing if its possible they will slam shut on them.....and looks about
perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31
Kael Cullen |
Kael pauses at the doorway, clearly thinking to scan the room from that position instead of moving inside, but seeing the fearless Pnin enter he follows behind him watching for danger.
Thinking to himself-I will never abandon a companion; I will guard the honor of my fellows. ~sigh~ Sometimes I wish the Oath was easier. "I will watch danger from the doorway" sounds really nice right about now...
Kael looks at the warrior statues. Is the armor real or part of the statue?
DM Darkvision |
Pnin and Kael venture about 15’ into the room where they can get a closer look. All the statues radiate evil and magic (necromancy). The armor is part of the statue. Pnin does not find any traps but remains on guard should any of the statues animate. Curral and Sanrael occupy the doorway. The doors appear normal to Sanrael but are showing some age.
Kael Cullen |
What do you think Pnin-check these doors or go up and check the doors on the balcony?
Can Kael make any sense of the nested rectangle pattern or what is making the light up above?
Not sure any applicable skils; he has +4 for nobility and religion:
roll for pattern: 1d20 ⇒ 18
roll for light: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Sanrael Bloodthorn |
[b]perhaps these are some type of guardians?? would we be better off breaking then apart....???[b]
Pnin |
It might be best to go back to the balcony. Of course, if these do come back to life, perhaps we just freed them for a chase . . .
Pnin thinks about the pattern and light with Kael:
KnowDungeon: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
To Sanrael: I may be superstitious, but I don't like the idea of talking about breaking them within their earshot.
