Oh nice, I thought we actually weren't starting until spring. xD

I can wait if you want. ;)

Silver Crusade

hey all, question for the group, would you guys prefer a halfling (or gnome) rogue (very skill monkey oriented, with social feel as secondary) going for arcane trickster,

or a barbarian/fighter Dwarf? Seeing as this is waterdeep, I'm more keen to lean towards the rogue, but figured I'd run it by the rest of the group before I set my mind on one or the other.

Well, most people agree that halfling rogues are quite the sight to behold. ;)

Rogues are fun. Halflings have a few advantages statistically (I think) but both would be fun.

It really comes down to what flavor you want to bring to it.

@Aeshuura I updated Bhoors I picked College of Blades, 2 weapon fighting. I added the relevant abilities for reference. I also added a hand crossbow and subtracted the money from my pool.

Nice! Looking forward to Bhoors the Blade.

I’d be cool with a rogue! I’m somewhat of a front-line fighter anyhow? I guess we’re lacking a full-on tank but I feel rogue fits the theme more anyways.

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

Aesh. I’m trying to decide whether to use my DM rewards here or not. If I did, it would put me to 3rd allowing the bard/bladesinger to happen. Would another 3rd hurt things or make it too unbalanced? If so, I can just run it at 1st level.

I don't know @Greycastle it would be really fun to say that you played in a party with the bards being the statistically most survivable. Flies in the face of any other game.

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

Lol. I’ve been trying to come up with what style of dancing that would represent bladesinging as well as performance art worthy of a bard. At the moment, I’m thinking it may have a Spanish Pasadoble feel to it.

Either way, I thought him and Bhoors possibly know each other. If I’m first level, he is a not so struggling (thanks mom and dad) artist trying find a way to break through and the blade singing form is how he plans to do it. Or as a third level he’s already made a name for himself as a professional dancer/performer and has a fairly well received show in Waterdeep somewhere.

It won't break anything to start at 3rd. :)

It certainly might be that we know each other. Bhoors travelled a lot. When he was a kid prior to living on the street in his teen years he and his mom travelled and she provided by teaching performance. He lived in an orphanage in Neverwinter before living on the streets. Later he took to wandering. This is certainly not his first or only time in Waterdeep. I imagine he has a opinion on where to get the best street food or who makes the best meat pies (Remlo's on 5th South of the Trades).

But he has seen a number of cities up and down the coast if that helps to have opportunity to have met outside of Waterdeep. I am assuming if your a Bladedancer you are some variation of elf.

Darn I should've thought to use some DM xp to not be behind, guess I still can after the first session. Then again might be nice for wizard to have more time at low levels to flesh out the spellbook...hmm.

Are we taking short breaks at levels to update, or just going all the way through?

Grand Lodge

MACROS | RPG Chronicles | Slides

Yes, there is a lot of opportunity to take little downtime breaks.

Just double checking, DMs don't earn downtime for running adventures, or is it just they can't do certain special downtime activities?

Grand Lodge

MACROS | RPG Chronicles | Slides

Downtime and renown are now tied to characters. As the character gains ACP and TP, they gain DT and renown.

Game Map DCI# 4318637857

So, yes we get the same DT as the player characters. We do not however get any additional benefits that they would get for completing the adventure. IE Story Awards, Special Downtime activities etc.

I am going to try to get the new thread up this evening. That was we can start fresh with the new week.

Disregard the second part of my post.

Hey all! Sorry it took so long, busy weekend, but, say hello to Amelia! your swashbuckler halfling. (or, will be swashbuckler, only level 1 atm)

Greetin's tall-folk, is good for ya lot to be joining us fer the voyage! Bound ta be a right Ole time I wager, Haha! Hopin' Ye have as much fun as me ey?

Also, there are is an image of her in her profile that show exactly how she looks. I also added a more "realistic" style one, as the original was fairly cartoony.

anyone have thoughts on a good expertise skill? I took athletics as my first to help cover for it incase I need to climb or swim something, so I am a bit undecided on what my other should be, whether to go for stealth or perception, or maybe sleight of hand or acrobatics. Leaning towards stealth or perception. Though I'm not really experienced with 5e in general...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I can give my personal opinions but they are likely quite different from what others think.

I don't bother with perception because usually the entire party rolls it, so its kind of like getting quintuple advantage on every roll. I also don't bother with stealth because its rarely used. Same story with thieve's tools really.

Athletics is a solid choice because its a very versatile skill and comes up both in and out of combat. My other choice would (again just personally) be a social skill such as deception or insight. I roll stuff like that often and tend to care much more about the outcome.

Halfling (lightfoot) Image for Amelia(cartoonish). rogue (swashbuckler) HP:17/17 AC: 15, Str: +0, Dex:+5, Con:+2, Int:+3, Wis:+2, Cha:+2, PassPerc: 14 Init:+3

Hm, I probably won't make much use out of stealth later on past level 3, but before that, I will be making a lot of use out of it in combat until then as a way to get advantage for my attacks. (since as a halfling I can hide even if only obscured by a medium creature and so can hide behind one of you guys and attack with advantage at range :3 )

Which is why I was thinking stealth. Another thought I had was that the extra bonus could be what gets me past the scary creature rather than spotted by it, but I do see the thoughts behind it normally (without the lightfoot halfing thing for stealth, and perception)

Insight and persuasion are both solid things I was looking at, thought I likely wouldnn't take persuasion until my second set of expertise (since thats when I would be getting the swashbuckler ability that scales off persuasion)

But thanks or your input! Its helped me rule out perception for the most part, at least for now!

Aesh, are there any noble families that fit the bill of Merchants that would have holdings in both Waterdeep and Amn? If not, no worries I will make one up. Just curious since I've heard the book has information on some of the merchant families in Waterdeep.

I'm afraid I couldn't get a better portrait, the paizo portrait selection function seems to be... how do you say... broke

Nothing that fits that particular description, create away!

Can I use my rock gnome clockwork toy ability when we have a moment, or do I need to spend downtime for that? I have the gold and tools for it.

Grand Lodge

Spend the gold and we will assume that you had done it before we started.

sorry all, dealing with a hurricane right after midterms, so I've been away a bit. Not sure if I will have access to post over the weekend, depending on how bad the damage is.

RP with a troll in the room. Should we assume at least temporarily have the troll handled? Otherwise it will be wierd.

It looks like Durnan and Yagra intend to shove it back into the well, but it still could savage somebody!

Grand Lodge

It might be an opportune way to have a sort of flashback (You might wonder how I ended up here...) sequence to give a little insight into your characters.

Just a thought. ^_^

I was thinking that if it was "put down" or knocked over the edge we could just RP until your back and if you wanted to keep the fight going it could just come back from the pit.

Or if we are close to killing it. Count the fight as done put in some flavor text and move on.

Its really up to you. I was just thinking RPing in a fight would be strange.

Grand Lodge

MACROS | RPG Chronicles | Slides

I will run its turn then resolve it.

@Marquez, not many people know that the Xanathar is a beholder. I might allow someone with the criminal background to make a check, but even amongst folk of that type, it is not common knowledge. It's one of my pet peeves about this adventure, things that are not common knowledge are bandied about as if they were... (Such as Jarlaxle's family name...)

LOL

All I know is that if I ever get to run Dragon Heist. I am going to play Xanathar with the best Christopher Walken impersonation I can muster.

And now Marquez has a cow bell to add more character to Bhoors songs. Thankyou, Thankyou very much.

Take the time you need, sir. We can take a break if needed, or bot you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Same with Amelia. We can take a little break until most of you are back in full force, or I can bot you as needed.

Just let me know! ^_^

Its alright sometimes I have nothing to do and it helps keep my mind of stuff. I might just not be as chatty or taking the initiative on exploration. Thanks for the support
