A thread for discussing the many varied things which must be discussed in a campaign.

Good day everybody. Looking forward to playing with all of you

Male CN human (Ulfen) fighter (viking) 7 | HP: 67/67 | AC: 28 (14 Tch, 26 Fl) [+2 vs. critical] | CMB: +11, CMD: 31 | F: +9, R: +6, W: +8* | Init: +6 | Perc: +8, SM +2 | Speed 30ft (20ft in armor) | Active conditions: none.

Hey, everyone! Glad to be here!

I'm really excited to start, since Olaff is one of my favorite characters.

@ScorchedOne: Now that we are here, I'd like to ask you about the viking archetype. At 5th level, Olaff gains the rage class feature and at 6th he gains access to rage powers. I'd like to request that we use the unchained barbarian version of both of the abilities. I my humble opinion, they are more rounded and player friendly, since it avoids the rage ends -> player is dead at higher levels.

Hi Vance - CampinCaral9127 - DM Omen, Esdras here!

Fire Cougar

"Should say hello too. Want belly rub!!"

What appears to be a VERY large cat or a VERY small lion comes into sight. He is wearing ribbons in his hair. He rolls onto his back, exposing the dark green band across his belly.

"Mrrrroooorrrrwww"

"Why no belly rub?"

Sorry, couldn't help myself :-)

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

I'm looking forward to playing with you player-to-player as well!

May I humbly suggest raging vitality as an alternative to avoid high level instant death.

IC post up.

I'm amenable to that. There's a reason Unchained exists.

Thank you very much I will make an alias and post tonight!

Ok, I've read all the backgrounds and here are my thoughts about connections:

Leandro and Nikka were both raised from childhood by Koya, so they are actually siblings.

Vance is not a local but it appears that he is a friend of Sandru which is one of Koya's sons. I believe it is fair to say that Vance already knows Leandro and Nikka. I believe that Nikka's love for animals might have even led her to be quite interested in Vance's mini storm roc.

I don't know how long Sunishi is in town but I believe at least Leandro and Nikka have already met him and it is also probable that Vance has also met him if Sunishi spends a lot of time in the Rusty Dragon.

Ryn is so far a mystery, for there is not a single mention of any of the key NPCs or even Sandpoint in his background. His roleplay sample however suggests that he is a local, since Ameiko and Sandru theoretically accepted having dinner at his place. If he is indeed a local and friend of Ameiko, it makes sense that he knows Leandro, Nikka, and Sunishi.

Olaff is the only 'newcomer'. He arrived in Sandpoint a couple days before Niska (Koya's mother) passed away, but since the player's guide did not mention when that happened, I'm a bit lost in the 'time'. Since he arrived, he has spent most of his time alone, talking to Koya, or drinking until oblivion in the Rusty Dragon, so he at least knows Leandro, Nikka, and Sunishi from sight.

Grand Lodge

From Ryn's backstory.

Quote:
Koya Mvashti was a close friend of Ryn's family often provide spiritual guidance to Ryn and helping him manage his powers. Between lessons, she regales him with stories of her own travels, as well as adventures real and imaged that head about. As children Sandru Vhiski and Ryn would listen for hours, then he would come and play in the half-elf conclave. Ryn and Sandru have been close their whole lives. Ryn lack of master of his ability has prevented him from aid in recent sand point crises, but Sandru stepped up gaining the respect of the town. This a sparked Ryn's ambitions to do more and be better. He wants to prove to be his friends equal should the need arise.

Ryn would have seen and played with Koya children but likely was pulled away for training regularly. My guess is he would be perceived as odd as he would have been talking to 'imaginary' friends until he was in his early teens.

Koya would have known of past lorekeeper so people that were close to her may have addended the last lorekeeper's funeral. Which would have been in the last few years.

He may know of Vance but I don't think they would know each other well.

As Ryn in friends with Ameiko he would likely know the name and face of any regular at the Rusty Dragon.

Ow, guys, just to be clear (even though I'm sure you know this already), I, as a player have nothing against any of your PCs or ideas! I'm just RPing by Olaff's point of view.

If at any moment you believe I'm pushing it too much, PLEASE let me know, for it is not my intention to foil your fun for this game.

| AC16 T11 F15 | HP 19/19 | CMD:15 | F:+2 R:-1 W:+3 | Init:+5 | Perception: +4

Nope, I get it. It's a good place to start a story arc.

I'm definitely enjoying your character so far. Makes perfect sense that he is deeply contemptuous of some of ours. I assure you, the PLAYER knows how silly and naive Nikka is being.

I find character interplay like this great in general.

But I appreciate you asking. Similarly, if the wide eyed naviete of Nikka becomes too much please let me know

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Nah, Olaff is rough, not a jerk. All good here :)

Same with Nikka. Wanting to be an idealistic diplomat is different from being a pacifist.

Male Human (Varisian) Swashbuckler 2 | HP 20/20 | AC: 17, T: 14, FF: 13 | Fort: +2, Ref: +6, Will: +0 | BAB: +2, CMB: +2/+5, CMD: 15, M.Attack +6 (1d6+3) | Init: +3 | Perception: +5 | Panache 0/2

Same! Having different characters come to know each other is great fun!

Indeed. Part of building a game is character interplay. You were all chosen for reasons, that being one of them. In most cases I read threads you had participated in. I think in only one case have I GM'ed for y'all before, and that member might be surprised to be here given our parting of ways. So FEAR NOT! I have great expectations for all of you.

HP: 17/17 |AC:15 T:13 FF:12,| CMD: 15 | Fort: +1, Refl: +5, Will: +0 | Ki Pool 3/3 | Init: +5, Speed 30ft

I don't mind, I admit I was bit conflicted on how to roleplay my character, I was going to try and include an accent, to reflect him being from Tien-Xia. But in all my experiments trying to get an asian ethnic accent into english they all felt insensitive to me.

So I relented to just play him as a confident slightly cocky rogue that really doesn't know much of home or his people.

I imagined he's been in Sandpoint for maybe a 6 months to a year already. Not really sure where to go but having a feeling he can't describe that prevents him from leaving.

That is one issue with playing many ethnicities. I mean I could make the excuse of "it's roleplay" or "this was another time", blah blah, but yeah. It's one thing to be a viking, for easily ready example, where the stereotype exists for a reason and is fairly historically accurate and not particularly offensive, to doing an Asian / Eastern accent in lands where they have been used as hate speech in the past. I appreciate your sensitivity.

Male CN human (Ulfen) fighter (viking) 7 | HP: 67/67 | AC: 28 (14 Tch, 26 Fl) [+2 vs. critical] | CMB: +11, CMD: 31 | F: +9, R: +6, W: +8* | Init: +6 | Perc: +8, SM +2 | Speed 30ft (20ft in armor) | Active conditions: none.

SO, is Sandpoint south or north of the map?

We'll say North, for sanity's sake. This is less clear than one might hope, might be more clear back in the RotR map, but I don't have that one.

EDIT: Okay actually the map in the Hinterlands section does actually indicate North. It's about a 3 mile travel. (I'll upload this map as well.)

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

God I love maps. Really helps bring me in over "Oh you go to the place and do the thing".

As much as I enjoy a good story, a solid visual is, as they say, worth a proverbial thousand words.

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

So as I understand the plan, we are not sure where the goblins are currently at beyond a vague location, correct? And as such we are traveling to Walthus Proudstump's shack, which is located along route A which ends inside the swamp.

| AC16 T11 F15 | HP 19/19 | CMD:15 | F:+2 R:-1 W:+3 | Init:+5 | Perception: +4

That is my understanding.

One of my favorite things about the Golarian is human ethnicities. There is a very genuine attempt a fair representation. The drawback is in a game store I read so-and-so says in a thick accent and realized I lack the skill to do them.

Yes. If you follow the route starting at A, it ends at his shack. (Letter G. The letter "E" is a bridge. Each one.)

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

About how long do we think the trip will take?

Well, getting there is 3 miles, so... an hour or two at the longest? Within the swamp, moving is more difficult, so you're looking at a few hours within the swamp moving about.

Female Halfling Fey Touched Druid Hp 16/16 |AC 17 (T 13 FF 15) | Init +2 | Per +7 | Fort +4, Ref +2, Will +3 (+2 vs fear) } HP 16/16 |||| Jakur (Cougar) AC 19. H{ 20/20)

Paizo just published a book on Sandpoint.

That includes this Lovely map/picture

Nice. Sandpoint is a fun and terrifying city.

I really like that perspective.

That is one splendid drawing that I'm going to use for my Rise of the Runelords campaign. Thanks!

Sorry all, I just don't think Tiltha can do much with that spoiler given her limited means of communication.

As previously mentioned, certain races have the ability to speak with animal.

EDIT: Ah but we lack one of those. I mix up the small races.

EDIT #2: The Post In Question

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Indeed. And although she is far more intelligent than any normal animal (INT score of 6), she's still slow by most humanoid standards and probably wouldn't make much of what she saw anyways.

GM, just to be sure I understood, the trail that the Warden pointed is not marked on the map?

In the map, the trail that goes from point A to point G (warden's home) doesn't go anywhere else.

Trails B and C leads to each other and to H.

Trail D leads to J.

There is no trails to neither I nor J.

So, unless there are trails not marked on the map, the 'only' trail to southeast would be to go back to A, then follow the road to B.

He did not point to a trail. He pointed off in a direction, but indicated the old trail (B) would lead to the goblins (H).

Ok, so we indeed need to go back to A before entering B. Thanks GM!

That would be the advisable course of action, yes. Paths exist for reasons, the primary of which is that this is a marsh and you can easily get good and stuck. The secondary of which is that monsters exist.

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Solid, we have a heading!

ScorchedOne, were there any results of detect magic?

There was not a result to detect magic.

Olaf, sorry that you think I dragged this on too long. But I thought it important to do this once in character. It shouldn't happen again

Please, do not get me wrong... I believe I've chosen poorly my words. As the GM said, I believe we took the right amount of time here. My only intention was for us to get a decision at that moment.

I believe it is good to have a discussion, but after a couple posts we need to make a decision to move along. For example Player1 gives his opinion in hopes that everyone agrees. If that is not the case, lets say Player2 disagrees and proposes another action. If Player1 and Player2 keep their own opinions, the game doesn't move, so it is good IMHO to ask for a vote.

That was the case. Please don't feel that I want to rush things or disregards your opinion... far from it!

We good?

I think so, that's why I clarified with my words. I do know that too much waffling can murder a game, and we have spent an appropriate amount of time at the shack.

EDIT: I do not purport to speak for anyone but myself.

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Indeed, I think we have a solid group that understands the dynamics of PbP well.

Out of curiosity, about what level does this AP take us to?

Good question.... I don't remember. Book 6 starts at 13, so I'd say 15-16 is a reasonable expectation.

EDIT: Also, one of the books, spoiler alert, mostly gonna skip it because it's bullcrap random encounters.

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Neat. Quite a saga we have ahead of us! I'm looking forward to becoming tighter knit as a group.

Ooph, gotcha. Something I've learned as a GM is to not make pointless combats a normal thing. Maybe every once in a while if it's interesting and the party has been in a dry spell, but combat should be memorable and purposeful.
