I enjoyed the exchange. I like playing a scene out as long as they don't start to go in circles (which this did not). I'm happy with it as a scene.

I'm ok with skipping bad chunks. Those random encounter grinds can be boring. I often do a skill challenge with some fun or odd item rewards as a replacement.

Exactly! Like the one so far. That is a memorable combat. The goblin horde will be a memorable combat. If we have a random encounter, it will have purpose and be meaningful. Now that isn't to say I'll throw out ALL the optional combats, but especially in PbP where the point is less to experience combat and more to experience story while also having combat, I won't be having the whole slog and the pointless random encounters which I'm sure are well written, but we skipped it in my tabletop (due to plot reasons that are way too spoilery) and it didn't lessen the enjoyment I felt.

Thanks for the input. If anyone feels we're too far off balance, feel free to bring it up here. Nobody's perfect, at least nobody currently alive per popular theologies.

Please, do not get me wrong... I believe I've chosen poorly my words. As the GM said, I believe we took the right amount of time here. My only intention was for us to get a decision at that moment.

We're good and in violent agreement. I certainly did NOT want to drag things out further. I have no issues with "vote and move on" in general or with this case in particular.

Edit: I totally agree with you (GM) on your stance with combats. Especially in PBP

Vance, I believe that, tactically, Ryn would be the best person for the enlarge person spell. Here is my reasoning:

Olaff is, and will, be built to be a tank. He uses a shield and a sword and increasing to big would give him -2 to AC (-1 from size and -1 from Dex), +0 to hit (+1 from Str and -1 from size) and in average +3.5 to damage (from 7.5 to 11).

Ryn, on the other hand, uses a 2 handed weapon and aside from the normal -2 to AC and +0 to hit, his damage would increase in average +4.5 (from 8.5 to 13). In addition, his reach would be 15 ft. with his longspear and on top of that he has Combat Reflexes.

With the goblings (I assume) moving around, Ryn could potentially dish 3 attacks per turn for a lot a damage, probably falling each one in a single swing.

| AC16 T11 F15 | HP 19/19 | CMD:15 | F:+2 R:-1 W:+3 | Init:+5 | Perception: +4

Olaff's assessment is correct. The additional size works well with combat ref.

Ryn's reach is 20 ft at large with a longspear (Reach doubles natural reach). The ac matters less at I can heal myself and I can keep Olaff in front of me.

The this is the best formation for a large Ryn.

Fair enough! Honestly my thought process was: Enlarge person on the fighter, good. I didn't put a whole lot of time into it :P

Enlarge person shall go to Ryn!

Guys, I'll have to attend a wedding this weekend that is not that close to where I live. I'll take a plane by the end of the day and be back on Monday, even if I believe I'll only be able to properly post on the following day (30th).

I'll try to post before departing but since there are a lot of things I need to do at work and home, I'm not sure I'll be able to. GM, feel free to bot me in the meantime!

(Posting this in all the games I'm currently playing)

Took a little longer than originally planned, but we are back up and running! My sincerest apologies, I do not plan to have more than a day's outage in the foreseeable future (this Thursday, for instance) but sometimes life just piles a lot on you all at once. Thank you for your patience, and I will have a post up momentarily.

The cure light wounds scrolls can go to either Ryn or Nikka.

The other scrolls are too high-leveled for anyone to use without a UMD check, but Sunishi has the skill trained. Sunishi, would you be interested into holding onto any of the other scrolls? If not we can save them until our casters can use them easier.

To be clear we can try to use them, but it's a CL check and failure could result in a mishap.

Edit: Actually after reviewing the scroll rules, the check isn't that hard. Vance will take the false life scrolls if nobody objects.

Hey GM, is there anything in particular you're looking for after you post before moving us forward? One post from everybody, a consensus for movement, something else? I think we have a very strong and active group and could be moving through the game somewhat quicker if we coordinate :)

Grand Lodge

For a lot of the games I play in I prep maps, loot sheets, update or have the players update initiative and perception rollers. I have combat tracker alias to help keep track of status effects and buff. I'm happy to offer any of these services it they will help.

I'm mostly just trying to track location for when the fecal matter strikes the fan. It is usually important. I can speed it up if you'd like I just hate assuming position or leaving someone catching up for 2 rounds. Which do you prefer?

Male Human Wizard 2 | HP 14/14 | AC 13/12/11 | Initiative +2 | Perception +1 (+2 with familiar) | Speed 30 ft. | CMB +0 | CMD 12 | Saving Throws F +1, R +2, W +4

Ah ok. So this is something that we as players can fix on our end.

We need to come up with our dungeon searching procedure. Marching order, distance kept between each other, kinds of checks made before entering rooms/hallways, etc.

I'll propose something simple to start and others modify it as they see fit:

We already have a marching order made, which is included on the map.

Unless otherwise specified:
We stay adjacent to each other
Each room/door/hallway is checked with perception and detect magic prior to entering/touching
Those who are in the front decide which way to go, everybody else follows. When in doubt, follow the rule of left until something substantially dangerous or shiny appears.

How's that? Does that help you ScorchedOne?

Edit: And I do see where your concern comes from. Personally, I try not to nickel and dime my movement too much and trust my GM to handle things. Perhaps he has nasty traps set up that target particular squares or ambushes from behind; if that is the case, I will adjust accordingly for the future. But until that happens my characters tend to follow along without much thought for exact positioning because they don't assume each 5 foot square is a potential death threat :P

Male Human (Varisian) Swashbuckler 2 | HP 12/20 | AC: 17, T: 14, FF: 13 | Fort: +2, Ref: +6, Will: +0 | BAB: +2, CMB: +2/+5, CMD: 15, M.Attack +6 (1d6+3) | Init: +3 | Perception: +5 | Panache 0/2

In my experience, the dungeon exploration procedure that works in face-to-face doesn't translate well to PbP. Having to check multiple rooms that contain nothing of interest one after another can get repetitive quickly.
Generally, when I GM, I speed up movement and exploration, just describing what the players stumble upon until the players come close to something interesting: traps, objects, foes, or clues of sort. The spider corpse we met was a nice point, for example, but after moving forward we found ourselves in am empty room. Your description was top-notch and great for immersion, but it diluted the rhythm terribly: it didn't advance the narrative, it didn't pose a challenge and there are only so many ways to say "Leandro follow nervously".

Grand Lodge

There is a slide for general marching order that everyone can edit that falls in line with the general order layed out by Vance.

I leave the numbers on the map so the groups can say, "We go carefully to the next room (E3) checking for traps along the way." It keeps things moving and confusion low at the cost of some realism I admit.

You would not believe how heavily (and unnecessarily) nested that text is.

One vote for move on, going with rule of two from now on also. Outside of combat, two votes means concensus.
