My House Rules for Hero Points:

Hero Point Mechanics:

1) One permanent Hero Point may be used to avoid a final death scenario allowing a narrow cinematic escape,

2) One temporary Hero Point may be used if you are between -1 and -9 hit points to stabilize yourself to prevent further blood loss,

3) Temporary Hero Points may be expended to power Feats. These grant a lasting bonus for a one scene or one round duration depending on the feat description,

4) One temporary Hero Point grants a character a chance to supplement their d20 roll by 1d6 and add the result (whatever it was - no re-roll) to the d20 result,

Progression system:
Level 1-10 1d6,
Level 11-20 2d6,
Level 21-?? 3d6. and

5) No more than one Hero Point may be expended per round.

"B says there's a split not too far in, and there's a cavernous room right before the maze that looks safe enough.

Frank casts Message directed at Gauntlet, EE, Kana, and Aerin. He then casts Light on his heavy crossbow of darkwood and starts to head down.

Broulnindre finds no traps at the entrance of the cave. In the pitch black she sees that there are at least three different ways that the cavern branches off.

Frank heads down the stairs as Dev take to the top of the landing.

In the back of the wagon, Gauntlet and Pink-Eye confer on a matter quietly.

Do EE, Dev, or Viorr have a light source? Right now the only light source down here is the Light on the front of Frank's crossbow unless otherwise stated.

B sees that there are two sets of stairs leading down in this direction. One to the west and one to the south.

FYI: Frank's crossbow has the Light spell on it, which means that it's giving off light like a torch.
20' normal light + an extra 20' of dim means that it's probably dim light at the base of the stairs... maybe dim light from outside illuminating the upper stairs?
I hope y'all have darkvision like B or Light like Frank or...something xD

Without a light source, or the specific magic required to make one, Dev positions himself comfortably be behind EE & Gauntlet.

"Well, on one hand, there's undead wolves and giant crabs and big birds stalking us up here. On the other hand, this old abandoned workshop is probably filled with clockwork bombs and a million little buggers who want to eat us to grow up big and strong..." Dev trails off, but had managed to regain the optimistic, sing-song quality inn his voice that had disappeared after yesterday's shenanigans.

"Never a dull moment in a short life!" he said, happily heading further in. "Whadya think we'll find down here, anyway? 'Sides what you all are looking for, of course?"

B wanders into the western cavern and finds a hatch in the middle of the cavern. The hatch is made of adamantine and there appears to be some sort of lock mechanism and set just to the left a small socket coated in blue enamel.

As she discovers this, she receives the call from Frank.

Pink-Eye and his new friend along with Zabeth, Sharon, and Aerin mill about at the mouth of the mine entrance. The rest of the group has already headed down and are awaiting the return of B in the initial cave that she discovered.

Broulnindre frowns at the mention of the sack filled with food that she will probably be volunteered to carry even though she doesn't need to eat.

Also, I believe darkvision is black-and-white only, for better or for worse, in which case B would only notice that the enamel is smooth/shiny :3

As B leads the group into the caves, the light reveals that the socket on the hatch is the same blue color as the item being held by Gauntlet.

If someone wants to grab a sack of food I'll assume it is done and duly noted. :-)

Wary of traps, Frank pulls out a brass key from a pouch and casts a cantrip, which magically tugs on the hatch.

I'm going to assume that Frank didn't see the blue enamel rod thing for now xD

The hatch does not budge from Frank's efforts.

Gauntlet's key does indeed open the hatch. However, it leads to a smooth stone surface. No way down from here.

Dev's armor manifests itself though it seems for now, he does not have have cause to worry about it, yet.

Zabeth mentions that this hatch is likely a decoy.

There are other tunnels to explore, to which one do you all head next?

Yeah wizards most times think too high of themselves. It is mere coincidence that this word includes "elves" though. It seems we are left to explore the tunnels of this place one by one or has anyone a good clue?

B and Kana suspect that the key that Gauntlet holds may well be why no trap was triggered. Though the idea of testing that theory seems less than sound.

The group heads to the first set of stairs that branched down at he northern most point of the mine.

Gauntlet again uses the "key" and this time the hatch opens into a circular metal shaft that leads straight down. At the 30' mark all B can see is darkness...

Once it's clear that holding the artifact will open most doors and bypass traps, EE relaxes a bit and follows happily, able to enjoy the architecture and distribution of the building.

EE cannot recall much about Cannith forges. However, he does remember Hal once mentioning that the Cannith utilized extensive traps and often magical guardians to ward off intruders into their forges.

EE also believes that the traps are likely electrical in nature as the hatches would be conducive to more efficient injuries. IF the traps can be bypassed, these hatches are worth a great deal as they were both made of adamantine and there may well be more of them!

B heads down, at the 30' mark she disappears from the view of the rest of the group!

As you pass through the wall of magical darkness, you find the area lit by dim light, little more than that provided by a flickering candle which emanates from a crystalline globe embedded next to the entrance.

This strange metal chamber is a perfect sphere, approximately 20 feet across. The only exit from the room appears to be the shaft you descended. An octagonal metal plate is set into a pedestal at the center of the room. This metal plate is 1 foot across and contains nine sockets—five blue enamel sockets, two green sockets, and two brown sockets.

Assuming Broulnindre/Frank update us...:
Absorbing all of EE's info quickly, Gauntlet moves to inspect the metal plate more closely...without touching it.

"I can open most basic locks with the right tools, but magical locks are beyond me usually. I will examine this, but everyone stay back in case this triggers something worse than just on me....because I don't like the look of this room."

Will detect magic show anything useful? Does it look like the 'key' fits, or do we need more keys? Is the whole room magical? Or just the plate?

Frank sighs.

Frank stops pulling out rope and his eyes go unfocused for a few moments. As quickly and abruptly as his trance began, it ends.
Frank shakes his head and clears his throat as he resumes pulling out rope.
"Looks like we might want to find more of those blue rods first. Also, got any brown or green ones, by any chance?"

...and it might get crowded if we all try to squeeze in later...

The sockets are magical. The room itself does not detect as magical. Do you insert the key into a socket?
