You flounder about a bit throughout the town but eventually you find the boarding house, and are able to call Brinya out. She looks at the lot of you oddly "Yes?"
Knowledge Local, untrained: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Kilien wordlessly hands over the note from Rodrik to his brother.
She reads it, and as she goes through the note she begins to sob, leaning against the wall and slowly sliding down it until she sits against the wall. She looks at the note wordlessly as she finishes the note, and whispers through the sobs
Kilien holds up the hopeknife that they found with Rodrik. "Do you recognize this weapon?" she asks the grieving widow.

Pretty sure Brinya, the fiancee, will say that knife is not the Hopeknife she gave him - he had one commissioned to replace the one that she gave him and he lost. That much we know.
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Jorani bows solemnly to Brinya, ”Our deepest condolences, Rodrick was a good man. It just ... doesn’t make sense, does it?” he says, trying to console her with his words.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
She says through her tears "it is a Hopekhife with the same message as mine on it, but it's not the hopeknife I grew up with. He was a good man, and it doesn't make a lick of sense. " She calms down a little bit, but she is still a wreck.
Sorry it doesn't do more Jorani, I'd like to give you more but she just found out the love of her life died thinking she wouldn't forgive him for a trivial loss.

"If there is a way to send a message to those who have passed beyond, we will. I would suggest a prayer if nothing else. His spirit might hear you. But it is my belief that somebody killed him before he had a chance to mend things with you. Most likely, his investigations were the cause. Either the plague house, or those white crosses or swords around town. We will learn the truth and we will avenge him. Did he share anything with you about his investigations? What he had found, or what he suspected?"
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1
Jorani nods, ”Aye, Magnar has the truth of it. It seems more likely than not that he was murdered. It must be a terribly difficult time for you, but please try and remember anything out of the ordinary that may have transpired recently. We seek justice, nothing is inconsequential in that quest.”

"What happened to the one ye had before, if ye did not grow up with this one?" Geim asked as he chewed on his fingernails.

"She gave it to Rodrick as a token of her love, and he lost it. He had a replacement forged by Morninghawk - we found the receipt. I suppose could go talk to the smith. That's why the customer, Rodrik, commissioned a knife dedicated to himself - he was replacing the lost one."
She nods as Magnar talks "He has the gist of it. As for anything out of the ordinary not that I know of, he has been going to the Iomedae temple to write more recently, I assume he found a special mood there. His journal might be there, I'm not sure."
M Dwarf Cleric 1 | AC 17 T 12 FF 15 CMD 14 | HP 10/10 | F +5 R +4 W +6 (+3 vs spells, SLA, poison) | Init +2 | Per +4 | Channel 3/3 | Touch of Law 6/6
"Thank you Brinya, we will go look for that journal. But in case we can't find it, do you have anything that Rodrik wrote to you? We might wish to compare the handwriting with this note here."
She says "He wrote me many poems, it was what originally made me notice him. I'll go get you one"
She goes to her room and brings out a slip of paper and gives it to you, the poem reads (To be read to this music This
"Shining like the sun
Bringing light into my life
Miss Brinya my love" and you can compare it to the note
Kilien wipes away a tear at the poem, then carefully rearranges her face to try and appear more solemn and businesslike. "We will speak to the Iomedaeans. Thank you for your help," she says gruffly.
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1
"Thank you, Brinya, may you find comfort in his words, and in the memory of his deeds and spirit. We will do what we can for you, and for Rodrick. We are in your debt." Jorani speaks gently to Brinya, and then readies himself to follow the others to their next destination.
To the temple of Iomedae?
M Dwarf Cleric 1 | AC 17 T 12 FF 15 CMD 14 | HP 10/10 | F +5 R +4 W +6 (+3 vs spells, SLA, poison) | Init +2 | Per +4 | Channel 3/3 | Touch of Law 6/6
Does the handwriting match on the poem and the 'suicide' note?

Magnar examines the writing carefully. Perception, +5: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 5 = 24
It is a forgery, albeit a very convincing one. Whoever did this was clearly skilled at handwriting forging
M Dwarf Cleric 1 | AC 17 T 12 FF 15 CMD 14 | HP 10/10 | F +5 R +4 W +6 (+3 vs spells, SLA, poison) | Init +2 | Per +4 | Channel 3/3 | Touch of Law 6/6
"A skilled forgery. We are dealing with trained professionals here. We should be on our guard. Brinya, I am convinced this note is a forgery and Rodrik did not kill himself. We will find out who killed him, and bring them to justice."
With that, he prepares to head to the temple of Iomedae.
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1
Jorani nods, ”We’ll get to the bottom of this, rest assured.” and he follows Magnar’s lead.
Killien and Geim you ready to move on?
Yes indeed! To the temple!

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Just a suggestion - it's pretty widely used in my experience that the GM rolls initiative at the beginning of combat, so you can jump right into whoever's turn it is, rather than spending a few days waiting for these rolls to come in. And if people have abilities to reroll initiative (like Tactics subdomain) they can do them retroactively or notify the GM ahead of time.

Magnar's got the right idea, I think. :)

First up are the wolves, they go for the flank on 1 Magnar, 2 Geim, 3 Kilien, 4 Jorani: 1d4 ⇒ 3 and all 4 attack, on hits roll a Fort save Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 151d4 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Next is Geim

Geim raised his large hammer above his head and brought it down, uncomfortably shifting at the last second as Jorani moved to dodge out of the way of one of wolves.
Doesn't look like any of them hit me. What's the layout, they are all flanking Kilien?
Kilien's bow hand twitches, but the wolves have closed the distance between them too quickly. Instead she punches one of them with her knee and steps around it to break away from the other wolves surrounding her. She tries to flank her wolf with Geim.

I know we are not using a map right now, but Jorani has both Combat Reflexes (to take multiple AOOs even when flat-footed) and a reach weapon. Would he get any AOOs?
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1
Thanks did the reminder. I’ll roll them just in case.
possible longhammer attack of opportunity: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Jorani roll to confirm, all the other attacks missed
He would be able to take multiple attacks of opportunity though the first 1 obviously missed.

Am I up?
Magnar moves and uses Touch of Law on Geim.
"Trust in Torag! He will guide your hammer."
Geim can treat all d20s as 11's for the next round. Would be good for Kílien but I don't think Magnar knows she can flurry.
(Alas, Kilien can only flurry with her bow.)
M Dwarf Inquisitor 1

Geim, remember that you can use Touch of Law on your saves as well as on your attacks.
Although we are sort of in 'Block Initiative', I will wait to take my turn until after Geim goes. Will probably just use Touch of Law on him again but we'll see what happens.
