"Hey! The acid worked! Now lets see about fire."
Cloudia sprays out a wedge of fire and the corner catches the animated statue and barely misses three of her allies.

If we were in trouble, I wouldn't mind the splashdamage, but as the combat is technically over, it's a waste of resources (and PVP). You'll do 75% of the damage done to the party this combat!

Assuming that the grapple holds, my check for round 2 includes pinning the statue. Here's my round 3 action.

I considered that, but 3 points of damage, one point to each of three characters, seems a reasonable trade off because:
The combat is not over and someone needs to hit it again it seems.
And it has a formidable (at least for us) DR so the energy attacks seem the way to go or we will end up with another broken weapon.

That should be a 17 to hit as she is firing into combat.

If it keeps the thing from attacking again, it could possibly save us twice as much damage.
It is currently pinned, so it needs to break the pin first before it can attack. Also with 3 incoming attacks from Lukian and Aurus we probably won't even need the extra round. Also damage on 1 person is easier to heal.
Every time one of my allies hits it (at least with a melee weapon) , they have a chance of damaging their weapon. I know if I had a choice between taking 1 point of damage and possibly breaking my weapon, I'd much rather take the damage.
A metal two hander won't break nearly as fast as a wooden club.

The combat was over as soon as Mao got the grapple. More importantly, in PFS you can't take an action that damages fellow PCs without their explicid permission

True enough. Cloudia will hold action until right before it attacks. At that point, you can either give the go-ahead or not. If not, she twiddles her thumbs, and does an 'Oh dear, what do I do now?', which would be just like her.

Mao bravely continues to hold the statue guardian in a head lock. With all the splinters flying about, Aurus misses hitting it with his greatsword. Lukian scores another hit with his acid splash! The winged demon no longer has a face, but still stands.
And finally, Cloudia valiantly pulls out a flask of acid, throws it at the statue, and hits! Uldar, Mao and Aurus all take one point of damage, unless you guys REALLY want to fight this thing for another round...
The acid seeps into all the cracks our heroes have already caused, and the carytid column breaks into tiny pieces of useless marble, leaving, rather miraculously, a fist-sized opal in Mao’s left hand.
COMBAT OVER
The battle over, the party notices another door to the south that the demon statue seems to have been guarding. A wooden sign on it reads “Scriptorium—Quiet Please.”
The party may heal up, further explore the room, and then either return to the entryway and go through the door marked Storeroom #2 or enter the room with the sign that says “Scriptorium”. If you want to explore the room, please roll Perception checks.

Yes, I REALLY don't want to be splashed with acid when it is completely preventable. The statue can't even attack us at the moment...
Uldar continues his performance and gets out his rope.

Uldar, I don't want to reverse engineer the story line, it makes for poor game play. You can keep the hit point, as can any of the others who choose to.

With regards to the place to go next, would it be possible to have an overview of the map? I don't like to have unexplored bits behind us, but without a map it's hard to see what's behind.

Mao reaches for the rope while dusting off parts of the statue they just battled. "Thank you friend," He inhales deeply as his wounds from the acid splash begin to heal. "This will be of good use in the futures." He secures the rope by his waist. "So, where to next?

Aurus carefully wipes the dust off of his sword. "Man... when are they gonna send us on one of these milk runs that actually turns out to be a milk run?" Aurus gripes. "Uldar, any idea why that thing would turn out attacking us? How's it know we ain't just patrons of this fine museum?"

![]() |

Lukian picks up a souvenir and sticks in his pouch. His detect magic spell reveals nothing.
Cloudia explores the room, looking closely at the odd collection of effigies. Inside a statue of the archdevil Mephistopheles she finds a secret compartment in the statue’s base that contains a dozen black vellum scrolls sealed with crimson wax and molten silver.
I’ve added a map of the previous room—the entryway. You’ve gone through the door at the top of the map of the entryway into Storeroom #1. The options are to go back through the entryway and through the doorway at the bottom of the map into Storeroom #2, or through the door marked Scriptorium at the left side of the map of Storeroom #1.

![]() |

"OOOhhHH! Look here. I found a hidden compartment with scrolls!"
She fairly dances with excitement and opens them up to read, disregarding the safety of herself or the scrolls. I guess the lesson about preserving artifacts did not take.

![]() |

Cloudia reads through the scrolls. They are written in Common and seem to consist of contracts between the Blakros family and various nobles. Surely, these would have been of interest to the Sovereign Court if Cloudia were a part of that faction.
Meanwhile, the party moves on to Storeroom #2
The doors open with a grinding creak, revealing a large room filled with monsters of all shapes and sizes. Giant skeletons and stuffed taxidermic monstrosities are frozen in poses of snarling ferocity, while mummified corpses lie in sedate repose in ornately carved sarcophagi. As silent as a tomb, the air in the hall is stale and musty.
You don’t have much time, though, before you realize that one of these taxidermic monstrosities is moving, intent on rending you apart with his claws.
