Herne's Son's Untitled Campaign

Game Master Herne's Son

Liberty's Edge

I've been in an RPG dry spell over the last few years, as most of the local gamers I know have moved far enough out of the way to make getting together frequently a bit problematic. I'm currently casting my net around trying to meet other gamers in the San Leandro/Castro Valley/Hayward/Fremont, etc. area.

I'm trying to get into, or start, some sort of regular gaming in the new year, so decided to reach out to some local folks.

Are you in a game right now? Or interested in possibly starting something up?

My tastes in RPGs tend to run to the rules-medium to light end of the spectrum. I'm most comfortable with systems like BRP, Fate, etc. I've played a little Pathfinder and tons of 3.x D&D over the past few years as well and enjoyed them, but they're a bit much for me as a GM.

Let me know if you'd be interested in meeting up some time to talk gaming.

Have you considered PFS games as a way to meet local players?

There's a game store - Ronin Games - in Castro Valley that plays PFS; it's the home store for one of the area VLs, too.

I've run Pathfinder at Game Kastle in Fremont on Free RPG Day, and I believe they sometimes run a Pathfinder game at the store, but I don't know for certain; you could always stop by the store and ask them.

There are several other PFS locations in the East and South Bay; there's also a Yahoo group for the Bay Area Pathfinder Society - you might try posting there.

P.S. We run Sunday morning games at Game Kastle in San Jose (10:30 - 2:30), alternating between "Rise of the Runelords" one week and "Jade Regent" the next week. We're up to three tables of each now!

Yeah, I've been considering trying out the PFS at either GK-Fremont, or Ronin Games. They haven't always been on convenient nights for me, but I'm going to try next time I can make it. Thanks!

Another place to meet up with a lot of gamers in the general area is the local conventions. We're pretty blessed in Northern California to have several regional conventions. The next one is Dundracon coming up in a couple of weeks, February 14-17. A conventions a great place to try PFS for the first time, as there are 10 slots available in a single weekend.

If you haven't tried PFS it's not bad. I play at Black Diamond games in concord it is a pretty laid back envirionment i.e. You do not need to haul around a hundred pounds of books and most of the folks there are great to game with.

I also second the DunDraCon motion. I am going saturday and have always had a great time.

DunDraCon is a good idea, but keep in mind that if you're close to BART, there are some good options in Oakland/Berkeley as well.

It's Your Move [4920 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94609(510) 547-4386] has a Warhorn site (http://v1.warhorn.net/its-your-move/) that they use to manage sign-ups for their games. They're the closest to me, and when I had time for PFS (they run on Wednesday nights, 7-10pm) I had a great time there. They're not as close to BART as some places, but they're near the freeway, reasonably close to Macarthur and Rockridge BART, both of which have bus lines that pass by the place, IIRC.

EndGame [921 Washington St, Oakland, CA 94607 (510) 465-3637] is in Downtown Oakland, near BART, and they do Pathfinder Society on Mondays. I've never played PFS there, so I can't vouch for anyone. Their website has an event calendar: http://www.endgameoakland.com/event-calendar/

Eudemonia [2154 University Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704 (510) 883-0814] is in Berkeley, also near BART. They do Pathfinder Society on Tuesdays, and their website has an event calendar: http://www.eudogames.com/calendar

Games of Berkeley [151 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704 (510) 540-7822] is within walking distance of Eudemonia, has more of an RPG focus, and runs Pathfinder Society on Fridays. Their event calendar can be found here: http://www.gamesofberkeley.com/calendar/

So any weekday except for Thursday, you've got PFS options within reasonable striking distance of San Leandro/Hayward/Castro Valley.

I can't believe we forgot to drop the BAPS listing page. It has links to most of what's listed above. If the Games of Berkeley coordinator would like to be listed on it, they should contact Euan.
