Hey all,

As soon as everyone checks in, we can start talking about specifics and details about the module.

"You think we need one more? You think we need one more. Ok, we'll get one more."

Sorry, as I told Talgil in a PM, I'm kind of an Ocean's 11 nut. All of that is simply to say that we're just waiting on Gareth and then we can get down to business.

Male Dhampir Gunslinger 1; Init. +5; Senses Perception +5, Darkvision 60 ft., Low-light vision; AC 17 (+3 Dex., +4 Chain shirt); hp 12; Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1 (+4 vs. Illusions)

Gunslinger, ready an' accounted fer, partner. ;)

Sorry for the delay; I got home from work not too long ago.

Is that you Porkins? Have you started your attack run?

Not a problem, Gareth.

Well, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Murder's Mark. Just a few housekeeping issues to get out of the way first:

1. I'd like people to try to post once a day, but I do understand that things get in the way sometimes. If you're going to be unavailable for more than a couple days, please let us know in the discussion thread and I can GM you while you're gone. I promise not to do anything that seems out of character.

2. For those new to PbP, there are a few different text styles that get used. Directions are listed below under "How to format your text."

"When your character says something out loud to the other characters, use bold, and make sure that you use quotation marks as well. It's the best way to set actual conversation off from other text."

When your character has thoughts in his head that don't get spoken, use italics. PbPs are more open even than games in real life, so please don't try to hide your character's motivations. This can be a really great way to help role playing.

All dice rolls should be done with the dice feature. Just type 1dx+y in using the dice feature and it'll show up like this: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Use the out of combat feature for out of character comments. This can be really helpful, but should not be used unless accompanied by either some descriptive text, some out loud speech, or thoughts. For instance, let's say that you'd like to sneak around a corner and look for any potential threats. Here's how you'd do it:

"Let me just take a quick look around the corner," Seamus says as he slips by his companions and sneaks to the edge of the building.

Please let me stay hidden, please let me stay hidden...

Stealth check to avoid notice 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Perception to scan the alleyway 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

3. Please proofread your posts before you post them. This is just a personal pet peeve of mine, since it takes just an extra few seconds before you post to reread it and make sure there are no typos. After saying this, I know I'm going to be the first one to make a mistake, but that's just how it works I guess haha

Ok, now that that's out of the way, I guess we can start introducing ourselves. Obviously if anyone feels uncomfortable with telling too much about themselves (real selves, not characters; your characters will meet in due time), then you are certainly not obliged to participate. I just think it's more enjoyable if we know a little about each other.

Also, if any of your characters want to start the adventure knowing another one of the characters (this is by no means required, and I'd rather not have everyone know each other), then you can start making those plans here as well.

As an FYI, I will be out of the US from January 11th through the 19th. So I don't know how much Internet access I'll have during that week.

Hmm. No. Red 5 was Luke.

I was five when Star Wars was first released and have been hooked on sci fi and fantasy ever since. My first role-playing game material was the red box set but was quickly introduced to AD&D by a friends older brother. I've been a gaming addict ever since.

I live in Montreal (Eastern Time) with my wife and two young kids. I look forward to a great game.

cheers

M Human Dual Cursed Oracle (Ancestors) 3 | HP 21/23 | AC 12 FF 12 T 10 | Saves +3/+2/+7 | init + 0 | Perception +5

I think I was nine when Star Wars came out. My first experience with DnD was in 1980 or 1981. A friend from school asked me if I wanted to try it. I rolled up a magic-user (wizard or mage to you youngsters) and cast the spell Invisibility. Then I stood in a corridor while the DM rolled a wandering monster. A moment later my invisible wizard was killed by an invisible stalker.

I live on the U.S. East Coast with my wife and our two month old son. I often smell like baby-wipes.

Female Elf Cleric, 1 Per +10, Init. +1, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref +1, Will +5

I'm married, live in Atlanta and went to Beaconsfield High School, in Beaconsfield, Que. back in the day (1974-1976). I am very new to PbP, looking forward very much to this game and love reading just about any sort of book you can imagine.

ROFL

That is so vintage 1e D&D played by those of us who really didn't know what we were doing.

I've a similar demographic. Live on the left coast. Never played 2e or 3e, went from 1e...long hiatus...3.5e. I have to say I think the ruleset in 3.5 is a god send to the game, I break out in a rash when DM's start busting house rules. Personally, I'm not so hung up on the OOC/IC divide. For me it's a game, meant to be played like a game. I think of the game as presenting problems to solve.

Now that I'm playing PFRGP, I have to say I like it a little more than 3.5e.

Personality wise, I enjoy discussing things, but I'm not big on debates or arguments. It's counter-product to have things so we dread coming to the thread. The point is to have fun and if we aren't having fun, then there is no point, imho.

I have no idea how old I was when Star Wars came out. ^^; I think my love of fantasy started with Tolkien and my mum's books on Norse and Greek mythology. I've been playing D&D versions 3.0 and 3.5, and was delighted to find out Pathfinder was coming out; having played the new system some, I can honestly say that I love it.

Umm. That's all I can think of right now. Game on? ;)

I occasionally enjoy debate, but will try to keep it IC. It's probably best if Gareth doesn't know anyone else in the group before we all meet.

Small world. My parents live in Atlanta. Too funny.

Game on!

Male Half-elf Rogue (Investigator) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 17 FF 14 T 13 | Saves 1/5/1 (+2 vs. Enchantments) | Init +6 | Perception +10

Well it looks like I'm the young'un here. I just got into tabletop a few years ago with Shadowrun when I started college and switched to Pathfinder about a year ago. I played in one other PbP but had to drop out so this is my first real one.

I'm in Arizona so I think mountain time right now.

Actually I think I may be the youngest one (the avatar just seemed GM-y to me). I'm in my second year of graduate school at the University of Notre Dame. I started role playing in college as well, and I'm currently GMing two other games in real life (Jade Regent over Skype with college friends and a home brew with some people in town). I'm also a big sports fan, and I love to read fantasy and mystery novels.

Well, we have sports in common. ND caught some amazing luck and some home-cooking this season. It'll be interesting to see how they do against Alabama. Did you do undergrad a ND too?

Male Half-elf Rogue (Investigator) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 17 FF 14 T 13 | Saves 1/5/1 (+2 vs. Enchantments) | Init +6 | Perception +10

Heh I'm actually still technically an undergrad at NAU until August. Never could get into sports though 'cause our teams are kind of sad. What are you studying?

The fact that we did not know what was going on did make it so fantastic. There was a sense of almost wonder. When I see old 1E artwork it brings me back for a moment.

I see I am not the only student here. In January I will be going for my second bachelors degree, this one in accounting. And because of our schedules I will be taking nothing but night classes. Yipeee!

Yes I did go to Notre Dame as an undergrad as well, and part of the reason we won't be getting into the full swing of things until the second week of January or so is because I'll be in Miami for the National Championship game.

I have a degree in world lit, my masters is in religious studies, and I plan on using neither of those once I'm done in May haha I'm looking to get into the publishing industry as an editor.

EDIT I think my first character was killed by a Rake who was harassing some ladies. I thought they were just landscaping tools. It turns out they are tools, too.

Definitely. I have all my 1e books somewhere. Even have the Rogues Gallery and Expedition to the Barrier Peaks. I remember looking through that module and loving the artwork. Earl Otus was a signature I remember and his artwork was so identifiable.

@Espri

To give you a clue where my allegiances lie, I'll just say, he was in on 2nd down, and on 4th, his elbow never touched the ground :)

@NN959 I had a feeling haha every championship team needs to get lucky sometimes :)

Soooo... Are we good to go? ;) *chomping at the bit*

Male Half-elf Rogue (Investigator) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 17 FF 14 T 13 | Saves 1/5/1 (+2 vs. Enchantments) | Init +6 | Perception +10

Early start? :)

The only problem is that I'm going to be out of town from the 29th-8th, and during that time I'll have very sporadic availability, which is why I originally said we wouldn't start until after that. But, if people are ok with starting and then taking a break, I'm more than willing to get going. If I don't hear any opposition to this in the next couple hours, I'll get it started.

M Human Dual Cursed Oracle (Ancestors) 3 | HP 21/23 | AC 12 FF 12 T 10 | Saves +3/+2/+7 | init + 0 | Perception +5

I'm in favor of an early start. I do need to pick a feat and finalize a detail here and there but, other than that, I am ready.

A question for my fellow players: How many of your character have darkvision?

Male Dhampir Gunslinger 1; Init. +5; Senses Perception +5, Darkvision 60 ft., Low-light vision; AC 17 (+3 Dex., +4 Chain shirt); hp 12; Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1 (+4 vs. Illusions)

I have Darkvision and Low-light vision. I just hope someone has Inflict light wounds in their spell arsenal for when I get hurt. ^^;

I am fine with starting early and then taking a break. As an FYI, I will be out of town from Jan 12-19, so my ability to post during that time will be spotty at best.

I do not have dark or low-light.

@Gareth
I suppose that's the trade-off the game designers had in mind when they offered that race: you won't be able to expect healing from the party.

Female Elf Cleric, 1 Per +10, Init. +1, AC 14, Fort +1, Ref +1, Will +5

@Gareth: Not only can I not heal you, if I channel to heal everyone else, I can hurt you. You may want to let my character know about your little situation before she tries the mass heal via channel positive energy.

@Azubah, I only have low light, not dark vision.

@GM Espri, I'm ready to go, but if you wish more time for preparation or would rather spend time with your family or job, then I can wait.

Now you guys have me all excited about getting started, so I think we will :)

I'm of the opinion that any adventure worth having starts at a tavern, so that's where we'll start—The Witch's Brew, the local tavern in Ilsurian. Whenever it is that you've arrived in Ilsurian, and by whatever means, we'll start with the evening before the carnival opens. It has arrived and has started setting up outside of the city, and the town is buzzing about its arrival. Please make your way to the tavern for some reason, which is where I'll set the stage in the game play thread. Looking forward to this!

Gameplay thread is now up!

Male Dhampir Gunslinger 1; Init. +5; Senses Perception +5, Darkvision 60 ft., Low-light vision; AC 17 (+3 Dex., +4 Chain shirt); hp 12; Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1 (+4 vs. Illusions)

Whee! :D

I'm obviously doing absolutely NOTHING right now (other than sitting at my computer and watching football). I won't often post this often and quickly haha

Male Half-elf Rogue (Investigator) 1 | HP 9/9 | AC 17 FF 14 T 13 | Saves 1/5/1 (+2 vs. Enchantments) | Init +6 | Perception +10

@Azubah I have low light

@GM Espri Hurrah!

M Human Dual Cursed Oracle (Ancestors) 3 | HP 21/23 | AC 12 FF 12 T 10 | Saves +3/+2/+7 | init + 0 | Perception +5

I asked about low-light and darkvision because I was thinking of taking an option that would give Azubah darkvision. Thanks for the replies, I will forgo it until later levels, if at all.

Keep up the great role playing guys! I'll moderate as needed, but conversing amongst yourselves is great.

Male Dhampir Gunslinger 1; Init. +5; Senses Perception +5, Darkvision 60 ft., Low-light vision; AC 17 (+3 Dex., +4 Chain shirt); hp 12; Fort +4, Ref +5, Will +1 (+4 vs. Illusions)

Doing my best to hide the pronounced canines whilst gratefully eating real food. ;)

I always wondered why anyone would open a tavern in a fantasy world. It's just asking for trouble.

Looks like everyone is pretty content, so if you'd like to bid your bar mates adieu, go ahead and you can get ready for the carnival in the morning.

@Bill I think that's why it always seems like the bartender turns out to be a level 5 fighter or something like that. Nobody else would think starting a tavern is a good idea.

@ Espri: That makes sense.

I decided to play Azubah as not quite a complete misanthrope because I think it would make him easier for the other players to get along with him that way. For now I will just play him as weird.
