that works cause everyone else only has 10 gp

Just to be clear all. Recruitment is still open. I just did a first round of cuts so interested folks could create a new player if they wanted

Heh even if they had more I would still say I'm broke the army can issue what he needs or not as the case may be.

At your service, guv. One thing I was hoping to get away with was my Heirloom Weapon, a rapier. Gonna be a bit tricky on 10 gp, but I suppose I could always leave my dear dad's old war blade at home. He was so hoping I'd bring it along, though.

Also went ahead with learning some Finesse with Weapons, as it seemed the only thing to do, really. I had hoped to pick up some Combat Expertise instead, but first things first, yes?

I get the distinct feeling I've forgotten something. His character sheet seems pretty sparse. Can't think what, though.

STR 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 6) = 12 = 10
DEX 4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5, 1) = 17 = 16
CON 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 2) = 11 = 10
INT 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 4, 2) = 10 = 9
WIS 4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 2, 6) = 15 = 13
CHA 4d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 6, 1) = 12 = 11

13 point buy...at least its better then the 3 i had earlier lol

crimson-no go on the heirloom, at least for A LONG TIME. I would anticipate it will be at least level 3 before you are able to take leave to go and get your rapier from dad. If you want to wait I am fine with that, though.

I will close recruitment on Wednesday at 5pm PST

was just trolling around and came across an RP Tavern, which I have heard about, but never seen. That is insane. We are so not doing that here!

Grand Lodge

Submitting my new character. Still a human and same name but different everywhere else. I just like the name and the fluff I have for him fits I think lol

Interview

Spoiler:

Why do you want to join the army?

I ain't got nuttin. I ain't got a place to call home unless you call the gutter a home. Caldaral mind wander for a few secondsMom's dead, deadbeat dad ran off after the fact. Left me for dead in the gutter. Caldaral spits on the ground at the thought of his father. I figured I can either attempt to make something of myself or die in obscurity as a nobody. Which was the way I was born, a nobody. So take me or be like everyone and everything else in my life, and toss me back to the gutter.

Why should we take you? How do we know you aren't going to be a resources suck?

I never had anything, I wouldn't know what to do with it if I did. Caldaral laughs at the thought of ever owning a real material possession. I feel I can do more with less, than most people can with everything they have. As living proof I haven't succumb to death's cold embrace just yet.

What skills do you have?

Ain't you been listening pops? Caldaral wonders if the guys' been zoning out and even listening to him? I am a gutter rat,a nobody, no skill trade, no future unless I get into this little here fun-house. as most would call it. I know how to survive and watch my own back so I don't get got. this guy for real Cal questions to himself.

What is your favorite color? and what is the air speed of a swallow?

Brown, i don't know, color of the earth I been sleeping on the past 17 years or so of my life. What's a swallow, is it arrow or something? I ain't book smart DUDE, I am street smart, hence why I am standing here before you answering your questions.

cal. Same interview answers? That is where you got hurt before, it was just so...dark. I think this campaign is going to have a bit of levity to it. The backstory works, but if he is going to be gloom in doom, iperhaps a gloom and doom with a smile?

Grand Lodge

different answers yes, just the same name and race is all...and on a side note if this is another fail attempt let me know so I can try and get another one up sooner rather than later :)

sorry cal doing this on my phone and missed the spoiler. Extra points for going commoner btw.

he is in the running, but he is just so grim still...i think this game is skewing a little less dark. But he is a possibility

Grand Lodge

No worries, I know that a smartphone pbp can be tricky. Thanks for the feedback, if it's ok with you I may roll another set, come up with another character and submit it for your perusal :)

STR 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 6) = 16 15
DEX 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 6) = 15 14
CON 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 6) = 18 15
INT 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 1) = 9 8
WIS 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 6) = 12 11
CHA 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5, 3) = 15 13

Folks you can roll and submit as many as you would like. I know some people really struggle with the totally random idea and would like to have several to select from. I am easy like that.

Though remember that higher statted characters will be at a gear disadvantage compared to lower ones. so in the end it will be relatively balanced

Grand Lodge

balance is fine, just trying out different things and fluf/crunch to come up with something :)

Just for kicks and giggles I rolled again to look at a few options. I'm thinking I may want to submit this simply because I can actually be a dumb spell caster [ooc]clearly from his str and int, his teacher had him do all the heavy lifting instead of the heavy reading.
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 5, 4) = 17 Str 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 1) = 12 Dex 11
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1, 2) = 13 Con 12
4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 1) = 10 Int 9
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 1, 6) = 19 Wis 18
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 2, 4) = 15 Cha 13

So as dumb as this sounds I'm going to submit 2 different priests, one of them Aasamar warrior priest, for all practical purposes, it basically melds the 2 classes to be a super paladin without smite or the full saves.

The other is a Grippli who should be pretty funny to mess with, Hes an adept going into priest, not the brightest crown in the box, but he does have something going on in that tiny noggin of his. For obvious reasons he'll be very fragile in comparison to everyone else (low BAB and a D6 HD)

I have a little time to try and flesh the poor kitty out, so here goes.

Drewan, Male Catfolk Warrior

Backstory:

Build plans are to gestalt warrior with ninja and take advantage of some catfolk-specific rogue talents in place of ninja tricks

Drewan thrived on tales of his grandfather growing up. Their clannish little village was far from exciting and his father's tales of an ancestor that had died trying to save his liege filled the kit with pride. As he grew, he learned that Grandfather was a guard for a minor duke in a land far, far away.

When the emperor sought to remove the young noble from his duchy, the man refused and prepared his family for a long siege. The duke's men, however, sent their wives and children away lest the fighting spill over and harm the innocent. After all these years, Drewan's father is unsure of how his father met his end. His mother, along with several other catfolk matrons, booked passage on a ship fearing retribution from the emperor and hoping to return when the fighting had ended. The next news they heard was that the fighting lasted barely a week and nary a stone remained from the duke's castle.

Afraid to return, they remained on the distant shore and eventually founded a small village led by an elderly matron with no remaining family.

Drewan's father learned from his mother many of the secret skills of the duke's guards - for she had also been one before she became with child. In turn, Drewan has learned these skills, also, but his talent is raw and his precision leaves something to be desired.

With the impatience of youth and full of pride in his ancestor, Drewan resolved to return to the faraway land and find what truly happened. Knowing the young one would simply sneak away if denied, his father and mother gave grudging assent and bade him return when he tired of the road.

Living by his wits and claws, Drewan has come as far as the great port of Magnimar, but finds himself utterly without means - he can go no further and cannot return. Seeing a recruiting poster in a shopkeeper's window, he realizes that the best way to hone his grandfather's skills will be to use them in combat - and the army would pay him to do just that.

Growing up, the village lives a very meager existence and everyone must learn and do what they can to survive. This experience leads to Drewan's first trait, Poverty-Stricken. He also took a fair bit of abuse from his peers for studying 'old ways' and his pride in a man that sent his family away. Understanding his friends' frustration, he sought to avoid confrontation rather than reply in kind. This leads to his second trait, Reactionary.

I'm working on a character sheet for Drewan under my AinvarG profile.

Fine by me, as long as it comes up at some point. Hm. I do hope there's something for me to display a bit of Weapon Finesse with, though. Not exactly the brute force type of swordsman.

I think I will extend by a day due to the outages today

Grippli Male Adept
Diu Ligno Spes

Interview:

Why do you want to join the army?

Well, um I'm broke. My teacher, er um, former teacher, was eaten by a giant toad while I was out collecting fire wood for his cauldron and well uh, with no teacher I have no place to stay and no way to feed myself.

Why should we take you? How do we know you aren't going to be a resources suck?

Well, over the past few days traveling here, lets just say I had to stomach a few things that you would deem less than edible, but thanks to my er, trianing? It wasn't that bad.

What skills do you have?

Um, well I dont know if you could call it a skill, but I can live off of bugs, and I can do this at this point Diu whips his hand on his tongue and rubs his now slimy hand on a small stone I wouldnt touch that if I were you. Just fling it at someone and they'll be in for a surprise Diu isn't bright enough to explain what he did, but he can poison stuff

What is your favorite color? and what is the air speed of a swallow?

Well Im partial to greens and browns, unless its a bunny, then I choose the bunny. And the swallows speed is um, er, 7? No, 8 definitely 8

I'll put up some stuff later, but he's an adept, soon to be priest
Str 13
Dex 14
Con 12
Int 9
Wis 20
Cha 12

How are you handling skill points? As a '0-level' warrior, I get 2, but when I attain 1st-level, I will have 8 from my PC class in addition to a larger selection of class skills.

Is it as simple as I'll get the other 6 skill points when we attain 1st?

it is that simple. From then on you will get to take whatever amount of skills is higher.

I think I am ready to select. If by 5pm no one else posts I will select. If you are going to post I need rolls backstory and interview, crunch later.

there are currently 5 I REALLY like so I will be making a painful cut of two people.

New build, new interview...

Interview:
The feline strides in and stands in a near-parade-rest stance. He declines any offered seat and keeps his eyes straight ahead. He is covered in soft gray fur with irregular darker stripes. He generally keeps his hands behind him, but when he relaxes, he gestures as he speaks. When he does so, his claws become apparent - and they seem pretty serious.

What do you want to join the army?
"Financial and practical reasons, sir. Financial because I seek to return to the land of my grandfather, but I cannot afford the expense at this time. Practical because I am a warrior by blood and by training, but my combat practice has been limited to sparring. The army seems a good place to find how I really measure up."

Why should we take you? How do we know you aren't going to be a resources suck?
With a slight smile, "I grew up in a small poor village. Everyone had to pitch in for the community's survival. My father and I did a lot of the hunting. I'm not as good as my father, but I can do a fair job of foraging for a small squad. More pertinent to the matter at hand, it's easier to track a man than a deer. I've done both successfully."

What skills do you have?
Holding up a paw and extending the claws, he replies, "As I said, I have been trained to fight. I am difficult to completely disarm." Putting his paw back behind his back, he adds, "I have been trained with a wide range of weapons, both standard and exotic. With my claws, I very proficient in climbing anything with so much as a toehold." As an afterthought, he offers, "In the village, I also took my turn caring for the livestock and other animals. I'd like to think I'm pretty good with horses, in particular."

What is your favorite color? and what is the air speed of a swallow?
"My favorite color depends on the context. In the daylight, I love a good calico fur. That's not one color, though I think it's the orange fur that I like. It's unusual. Yeah, tabby cat orange. In the darkness, I'm a scout by nature - I prefer black."
"As for the speed of a swallow, it's too fast to catch them by speed. You have to entice it to land close to you so you can pounce while they are still. Bait can work, or you can wait near their nest."

I know no one has been chosen yet, but my linked tabs are broken currently, so for now the discussion tab will be

HERE

And the gameplay thread will be HERE

Please refrain from posting on either until I make selections. Hopefully once tabs are working again I can get someone to link them for me.

whoops guess I need a bit of back story.

background:

Spes is a little grippli. He isn't the brightest crown in the box, but one of the village shamans saw potential in him (he made a good 'apprentice' in that he was great for doing menial tasks like hauling wood for fires, cleaning up and such. Regardless of the lack of care that his teacher took to his training, Spes picked up quite a bit on his own as he was only taught a few spells that would help him to work harder for the old sage. In the end though, fate decided that it was time to move on. A giant toad took the old man by surprise and swallowed him whole. Needless to say, Spes freaked a little bit realizing that he no longer had a master or an occupation in the village. After finally calming his little brain down, Spes realized just how unskilled and helpless he was in the world. If he wanted to survive, this little grippli had to find a place that might be willing to take him in and maybe give him a little more, and hopefully better, training than he had received from his wrinkly old master.
height: 1 ft 8 in
weight: 30 lbs
age: 12 (yeah, thats an adult grippli, lolz)
basic description: After he is fully decked out

And here is the list

This was a brutal selection process

But the three unlucky winners are

Blamo
Crimson William
Spes

Pop on over to discussion and Gameplay threads, let your characters get to know each other.

Ainvar and Darius are the last two out, and I would like to consider alternates

Congratulations, folks. I'd be happy to be an alternate. Drewan looks like fun. (For MiniGM, if you need a bit player in a scene, let me know.)

Blamo is most pleased at his selection! Blamo congratulates the others and revels in his red tunic.

Fan-bloody-tastic. Let's get down to it.

ainvar, I just might take you up on that, perhaps a recurring bit part.

PM me ahead of time in case I lose my dot and am not following the thread, but the offer stands.

will do Ainvar. wont be for a while, but feel free to follow along with the campaign if you would like.

Yup, looks like a riot so far

game still open?

been closed for a while up and running this thread is a leftover from the days of unlinked threads. How interested are you? A good enough idea and creative character might be allowed to join

here is a link to the game
