Nope, you are doing fine, Nissa. Gonna give Doc a couple more hours, then I'll move forward a little.

Diabolito and Nissa both connect with their quick attacks, while Malak swings wildly. Thankfully, none of these pirates seem any better trained in unarmed combat than those three, or it could have gone very poorly.

Feeling better protected, Doc rushes into the fray.

The pirates then take their opportunity to assault the new pressganged members of the crew.

Piracy!:

Syl runs up and swings at Aramis after she throws a punch at Aretta, who also throws a punch Aramis's way.

Syl: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Aretta: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Fipps, having taken a firm fist from two of the group, picks on Diabolito.

Fipps: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Jape stands dumbstruck.

"Two on one? Ne'er mind, I'll take ye both!" Aramis manages to weave out of the way of Syl's blow, but Aretta's punch catches her in the jaw, causing her to stumble. Her bravado never falters, as she wipes the blood from her lip and grows a quick jab back at Aretta. Unfortunately, her hangover causes her to miss again.

Unarmed strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

"C'mon, ye daughter of a sea hag, 's tha' all ye got?!"

I'll need to change her quick stats when I get back on my computer. Without her armour, her AC is a flat 14...

I thought Jape had been dazed by our friendly witch? Does that mean he would be unable to punch me? Do they save against the Sleep spell?

If Fipps is still awake, Nissa will punch him again. Otherwise she would punch the closest knave. If none of these jerks are still standing, then she will continue to the deck.

Hypothetical Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Hypothetical Unarmed Strike Damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

I'm an idiot and forgot to mark it on the map, one sec

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Saves vs. Sleep:

Aramis: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

Aretta: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Jape: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Aramis is in the spell's effect as it goes off, Sleep hitting the area, but she shakes off the effects, but the same cannot be said for Jape and Aretta, who both fall unconscious.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

So the question is, who is asleep now? And who is about to be?

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Aretta and Jape are both asleep. That is the extent of the spell, so everyone else is still standing.

Doc closes with Syl, and reaching back to his bag, he pulls out a small portion of sand he keeps in a side compartment for just such an occasion. "I'd apologize in advance for doing this to a lady, but you don't look like one who takes apologies, or like much of a lady for that matter!"

He takes the sand and flings it at Syl's eyes.

Dirty Trick (Blindness): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Successful:

"Oops, looks like you've got something in your eye there miss, might want to do something about that," he says with a chuckle.

Blinded (remove with move action): -2 AC, Loss of Dex bonus to AC, -4 to str and dex based skills, all opponents have total concealment (50% miss chance)

Unsuccessful:

Probably gonna be out most of the evening, so let's give ol' Diabolito another swing on wherever he's needed. His current target is first, and then to whichever is next.

"The wonders of a sea lass's charm, eh?" malak says over his shoulder with a wink. Malak steps up to stop Syl from reaching Maera and draw him off Aramis. "I think you all brought this fight to me, you made a poor choice. You should be watching me you scurvy idiots not swinging on her." The huge half-orc lets out a threatening howl as he brings a haymaker to strike Syl while he is blinded.

Attack on a blinded foe while courage inspired. I'll use power attack for an overkill. Making current Attack bonus +7 and damage +9...

Diabolito's quick swing is enough to finish off the poor brute he who had bitten off way more than he could chew. The dwarf's height throws the pirate off and as he goes to swing, Diabolito's fist connects right into his kidney, causing him to drop, out of the fight.

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

Malak, you posted at exactly the same time I did, good job...I missed it.

Syl takes the blow directly on her jaw, the big half-orc does nearly enough to drop her in one swing, and it certainly sends her reeling.

Malak nods in agreement of Maera. Seeing that the rest of the opponents are incapacitated he lets himself relax. Slipping out of his rage Malak slows down his breathing and pounding heart. The tension in his muscles goes away and his mind is no longer clouded. Malak pops his knuckles and looks around. "She has a point, since these lollygaggers are done let us avoid any lashes. We work to do and they dreams to have. I think we made a point...don't push a half-orc in the morning." Malak walks over the slumbering scumbags, paying no mind to stepping on their hands as he makes his way up to the deck behind the bard.

Malak is no longer a raging behemoth. Just an angry barbarian with temper issues.

Aramis sucks in her cheeks, then spits a thick mass of blood and other fluids on the deck. She wipes the corner of her mouth on her sleeve with a grin. "Well. I could've taken 'em, but I think th' rum got ta me a wee bit last night." She calls over to the doctor, 'An' you too, Doc. Tha' was a mighty fine trick ya pulled there, if a dirty one. Nissa cleans the blood off of Aramis and the dung from the doctor. Let no one say that I am a rani that doesn't care for her subjects.

With a vicious smile, Nissa comments, "In war, there are no dirty tricks -- only successful and unsuccessful gambits. Success, we should prize above all means."

In a quieter voice, Nissa whispers to Aramis to preserve her honor, "Do you need healing or aid?

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Diabolito clears his throat loudly. "No time for checking below deck, lads and lasses. Up on deck, or else we'll see what happens to people who are late." And with that, the dwarf begins to corral his companions up the steps.

Doc turns to Aramis and says "I think I could do without the morning brawl, but it certainly does get the blood flowing! I imagine I could've stayed back and you all would've done just fine without me though."

With Diabolito shepherding the group towards the deck, Doc takes one look back at the three poor sods on the floor and adds quickly, "I reckon that lot will think twice before startin' anything again. And perhaps some of the others will take a shine to us for not being cowed by the likes of these."

To Doc she says, a bit louder, "Tha'll give 'em pause, I'll bet. An' I 'aven't had a brawl like tha' in far too long. Feels weird fightin' without me gun." She allows herself to be shepherded up to the beck by Diabolito as she speaks.

As the group arrives on deck, they are each given their work assignments.

Work Work:

Malak: Mainsail Duties – Profession Sailor/STR check (DC 10) + CON DC 10 to avoid fatigue

Diabolito: Bull Session – drink an extra Rum Ration but can make an additional ship action (Meaning you can take two)

Aramis: Repairs – Profession Sailor/DEX DC 10

Nissa and Maera: Rat Catcher – Stealth/Survival/DEX DC 10

Doc and Ossok: Swab the Decks – STR/CON DC 10 to avoid fatigue

The whole time they are given their assignments she glares at Syl, as if daring her to say something, but as the former combatant is cowed into silence, her eyes stray toward Master Scourge. So that's how it's to be, eh? We'll see. You win far more flies with honey than vinegar.

Heading down into the hold, down in the dark and quiet where the rats like it best, Maera finds it a little curious that they don't have a competent mouser on board. A ship cat will take care of your rat problem good and proper, and it never hurts to have the little extra luck they bring. Well, if you don't have a good mouser, you can always fake one... "Let's put the fear back in you blighters," she grins, using the cantrip Ghost Sounds to mimic the noise of a cat on the hunt to help flush the rats out of hiding. The rest comes easy.

Diabolito notices the eyes on him but pays it no mind. Sharks are sharks, above or below the water. They strike when they will, and there is no denying their strike, so why worry.

The dwarf chuckles, starting on the Bull session, he grins at the cook. "So, what got you on here? Obviously it must be something more than folks that met us below deck today!" He laughs heartily, obviously not phased. His knuckles crack reflexively, as he looks at the man.

Kroop chuckles, "I needed to find a place to be that wasn't Port Peril and this ship happened to be about to leave port and still needed a cook. Now, I stay because I have to." He simply leaves that part at that. "Did you have something go on below deck?"

While Kroop is not completely drunk today, he has been drinking and he is sipping on rum now. He, oddly enough, has a rooster sitting on his shoulder, which is fitting since chickens seem to have their rule of the galley, running all about, as do a few goats.

Dwarf Druid (Shark Shaman) 5

Yeah. They never escape then! So as far as ship actions, Diabolito could try to influence 2 NPCs? If so, he'll be working to influence ol' Kroop & Tilly Brackett, since someone else likes rum.

Diplomacy for Kroop Over Booze: 1d20 ⇒ 9

After having his conversation with Kroop, he smiles. "We ought to have a feast at some point, if we can get some folks to help us fish. Know of anything?"

Fatigue: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Fort Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 +2 more if that drink falls into the poison category

And a bit later, he'll head up on deck, taking a bit of extra rum to Tilly. "I hear that you're the lass on the ship that likes rum. Doesn't seem like there's many that can stomach strong stuff. Name's Diabolito. Since ol' Kroop is sober today, I figured I'd bring a celebratory bit of rum to someone who could appreciate it."

Nissa is disgusted by the idea of catching rats. It is beneath her station. Needless to say she does not do the work particularly diligently. Luckily for the spoiled noble, her natural reflexes see her through.

She is however very friendly with Maera, "Your magic was quite helpful earlier. You are a woman of many talents."

Are there any NPCs who Nissa can try to influence as she catches rats? Do we get XP from performing these jobs?

M HumanCONFIRM! Level 1 PBP GM

As you are hunting rats all over the ship, 'as needed', you can try and influence anyone you want or explore any section save for the bilges, the galley, or the officers quarters. As far as XP, I'll let everyone know when to level :-D I'm not a huge fan of tracking little drops in a bucket

Diabolito:
Thankfully, it has been seen that you are an associate with the lovely bard who put on such a grand show the previous night, otherwise, you think that Kroop may have started looking at you a bit worse despite your efforts to sweet talk him.

Tilly on the other hand thinks that you are trying to get her drunk so you can take advantage of her and gives you a slap for good measure, before storming off.

Doc notices Scourge's glare and finds himself pleased that Scourge's day just got a bit worse.

Receiving his duties for the day, he sets off to begin swabbing the decks. While doing so, he strikes up a conversation with Ossok to help the time go quicker.

"How are you feeling today? Did you manage to heal up your wounds from the fall yesterday? I saw you mend Diabolito's wounds from his fall, I wanted to extend my gratitude for that."

Doc pauses for a moment, leaning on his mop, and continues, "It's hard being unable to do anything in that sort of situation, normally I'd have potions to heal the wounded. I'd normally deny this, but some days I really envy the ability of those who use magic to rely solely on themselves, or their gods I suppose, for healing."

Male Half-orc Witch Doctor

With the fight over, Ossok pushes past the thugs, growling just faintly behind his mask as he marches up deck.

Ossok continues at his job of deck swabbing, minding his own business until approached by Doc.

"Ossok do what spirits guide him to do. Ossok still little bruised for day before, but will be okay. Do not fret. Each person has different usefulness. Ossok lucky to be reunited with mask," he says while slightly tapping it with his hand. "You will also find what you need soon, Ossok sure of it."

Aramis, you can, most of what you will get without conversing is in the tab, but if you ask about a specific couple, I will give you a little more. It would take your action during the day or free time. Nissa, Aramis, and Maera, I believe you all still have your extra day time action, please list what you are planning to do in a spoiler as I move forward. Thanks!

The day goes by with few events, though Ossok feels exhausted while Doc doesn't have any problems with the hard work.

Nissa and Maera have great success catching rats.

Diabolito feels like he wants another rum and that he might need it to better talk to people.

Malak certainly has the most success through the day, easily working his tasks while making a point to show Syl who's boss. She gets it.

She still would rather not eat them, and can't see the quartermaster having a use for them. Along the way she crosses ways with Crimson “Cog” Cogward, a man she noticed last night paying more mind to Malak's arm wrestling than her own performance, and she thinks she's found one of his interests.

"So, did you happen to catch this morning's performance, perhaps? It's not my usual set, but my co-performers certainly made it memorable. I could give you all the gritty, gory details, if you like," she adds with a winning smile.
