Maps: Segang Expedition

When Mykhail is done shouting at the ceiling the group can hear a bunch of laughter. The trap door opens just slightly and someone shouts back.

"We saw you comin' from a mile away! We know you're armed! You want us? Come an' get us!"

Just before the door closes again something comes through, when it hits the ground it explodes in a thundering roar.

Everyone: DC 15 Fort or be Deafened for 1 hour.

Deafened:
A deafened character cannot hear. He takes a –4 penalty on initiative checks, automatically fails Perception checks based on sound, takes a –4 penalty on opposed Perception checks, and has a 20% chance of spell failure when casting spells with verbal components. Characters who remain deafened for a long time grow accustomed to these drawbacks and can overcome some of them.

Brask throws his shield up to cover his head as he sees the thunderstone fall through the gap, snarling as the loud boom shakes him in his armor.

The building is an ancient temple made of brick. There isn't a second floor that you can tell, just a few crumbled balconies with no access because the stairs have all fallen away. It would have been clear by the light shining through that the trap door leads to the roof.

Femi, Brask and anyone else who passes the fort save:
You hear another round of laughter after Femi's remark and a few footsteps that seem to get farther away.

Everyone can see the trap door opens and one Tiefling starts to climb down the ladder as he looks up and speaks to another, paying no attention below.

"There's no way they 'took care' of anyone when a little thunderstone can scare 'em off! Too bad though, I bet Scarplume would have had a good time beatin' them all." THose of you with hearing can make out as he climbs.

No Map. You may all assume you are within ten feet of the ladder. Everyone may take a surprise round action, either a single move or standard action, I still need a Fort Save From Mykhail and Kalem.

Unable to resist the opportunity, though he knows he should be conserving his spells, Femi casts Magic Missile with Toppling Spell boosting it with his Arcane Reservoir to caster level four. He shoots his missiles at the Tiefling on the ladder, hoping to make him fall and further injure himself.

He then steps back 5' to make way for the others to climb the ladder while he tries to cover them with his spells.

The young tiefling, hit by Femi's force missiles, falls from the ladder with a loud crack and does not get up.

"Oh s&$*!" Says the thug waiting by the trap door. The sound of his boots fade as he runs for help.

The party easily makes their way to the rooftop, at first with no sign of a welcoming party. However a quick glance to the adjacent roof shows three tiefling thugs armed and ready for combat just across a small foot bridge.

Red finches hard as the bullet flies from Mykhail's gun but it flies harmlessly overhead. Sneering he moves in with blue as green leaps over the gap to take on Kalem.

Ripped into from behind, Femi struggles to remain standing. He wheels on the flying creature, realizing that their best ranged fighter was trapped in melee, he launches his last Magic Missile with Toppling Spell. He shoots his missiles at the flying creature with the fast fingers.

Mykhail curses when he is hit and is surprised when he doesn't fall over, seemes these guys really pack a punch. He moves to the side praying that the next time he shoots one of these thugs that he will pay them back.

Kalem doesn't manage to trip green but he does connect with his fist splitting the thugs lip with a strong blow. Elias moves to Femi's aid and heals him with the groups new wand.

Femi fires a barrage of missiles at the flying foe. Brask rushes forward and swings his sword at blue hoping to get him off of Mykhail. His sword hits and blue reels from the blow but doesn't go down yet.

Mykhail attempts to move himself from the unfortunate position but Red sees through the move and swings his sword but misses the gunslinger who manages to reload his weapon despite the close proximity to his foes.

The thugs recollect themselves, blue retreats as far as he can, red seeing himself suddenly in a bad position takes a step back and swings at Mykhail hoping to even the odds. Green presses the attack on Kalem. Both blades hit their mark doing even more damage to the wounded Ravens.

Brask refuses to let Blue escape, thrusting his cutlass wherever he tries to flee but the foe manages to slip away. Finding a closer target, Brask hops onto the nearby roof and takes a swing at Red.

Kalem knocks green out with his second blow. Elias nods at Femi and moves toward Kalem but can't quite reach him yet. Instead he casts bless on the party. Brask swings and misses red. Femi fires a few another missile and a taunt at the flying Red Jills boss. Mykahil fails once again to roll passed his foe and takes a sword in the back for his trouble. The gunslinger drops to the ground, unconcious and bleeding.

Red turns to Brask and swings but for the first time misses his target and curses beneath his breath. Blue drops his weapons and holds his hands up, cowering as he watched the battle. "Kill them Scarplume!" He shouts.

For her part Scarplume does in fact try to kill Femi once more. While he's still concious Femi can tell that this ray is not quite as powerful, but it certainly does the job as the mage drops to the ground smouldering.

Kalem and Brask both miss their target, meaning Elias is unable to heal Mykhail without risking harm himself, instead he draws his weapon and tries to assist the takedown of red. The blade cuts deep and red turns to retaloate, too angry to realize he's surrounded. The thug gets in a solid blow but is too inexperienced to really capitalize on it.

Kalem easily covers the gap between buildings but doesn't quite manage to avoid an attack from the flying woman. Thankfully her gauntlet taps harmlessly against the tiefling as he lands on the other side. Elias bolsters his aim. Brask moves around his enemy and stands guard over Femi.

Elias takes his blade in both hands, and with a grunt, flings it overhanded at Scarplume.

I'm kinda guessing here, but it seems that improvising the weapon throw is -4, the range increment is -2, and throwing into melee is another -4. This leaves me with a +13 to the attack. Cross dem fingers.

Thrown Blade: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
scatter dice for where the blade lands, with 1 directly away from me: 1d8 ⇒ 1
WHEW, I was worried about 4, 5, and 6, where it falls into the alley, or 7, where it would have landed on Kalem...
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

The spins like a razor sharp disc, slicing into the side of their attacker before clattering back down to the ground.

It is because of how far you moved. I assumed Brask was going to make another attempt, but players will surprise you. She is still within striking range this round.

Kalem does not like the idea of potshots being taken at hiim and his allies. He uses another martial flexibility to switch out improved trip to improved grapple, and then goes to grapple the winged one.

Scarplume breaks from Kalems grapple and flies another five feet up into the air. Panic begins to set in her eyes as her blood flows to the rooftop in small rivers.

Stepping up to the edge of the building, Elias strums a discordant note from his harp. Horrid negative energy flows from the priest, though his will forces it around his allies, protecting them from harm.

Femi is out of range, and I can protect everyone else. If green and red were just dying, they'll take a hit to the face. Couldn't happen to better guys, I'm sure.

With a final combined effort, those of the Ravens still standing manage to bring Scarplume down, her bodies falls limply to the roof and her breathe is ragged. Blue falls to his knees and begins sobbing. Green has started bleeding anew and red has stopped breathing altogether.

On the strix herself you find a masterwork spiked gauntlet, and amulet of natural armor +1, and 45gp.

In addition to her gear, Scarplume has stashed a small fortune of presumably stolen goods and coins in her nest. This stash consists of 12 pp, 279 gp, 1,302 sp,
530 cp, and miscellaneous jewelry and keepsakes worth a total of 750 gp.
