Considering Kalem's first plan, Elias extrapolates, "We could not ACTUALLY join the Asmodians, mind you, but If I could locate a copy of their vows... we could all read them to ourselves aloud. Purely for educational purposes, of course. Thereafter we could honestly claim we have spoken Asmodian vows. With a reticent servant such as Yilliv, this might be enough. I hesitate to persue any action that takes much longer, though."

True to his word, as far as the Raven's can tell anyway, Yilliv does not alert your foes to your presence. The grisly walk through the upper floor is quiet and you arrive back to the Wasp's Nest unmolested to an anxious looking Rexus.

He looks at you wide-eyed when you return, and even Laria looks expectant. "My mother? Was she there? Have you secured anything from the Order that might help us!?" His voice wavers and he keeps looking behind you.

"Did she choose to stay at the museum? I imagine she's a refugee so she'd probably like to stay hidden, that makes sense." He begins to ring his hands while he waits for an answer.

"We haven't finished searching the place." he says sadly.

He turns to the others, "Let's relax a little now. They are very busy, and unlikely to move from their deeply hidden den any time soon. A secret tunnel isn't very useful if it's in constant use. Let's not dawdle my any means, but the plan we have, A sepia snake sigil for the guardian and rest to refresh our spells and supplies, is a good one."

"Let's hurry to market and then return to sleep. We'll leave first thing in the morning, as soon as the sun peaks the horizon. We'll find what there is to be found." he says with more confidence then he feels.

When Brask hands Rexus the rings that once belonged to his parents the man takes a seat looking like the breath has been knocked out of him. Laria takes a look at the rest of you, a little incredulous.

"Maybe you should take this conversation elsewhere, and let Rexus mourn his dead?" Her voice is stern and her face is more than a little red.

"No, Laria, they're okay." He says. Lifting his head you can see the the tears still falling, but his face is resolute. "They're focused on the real task. I am not the first person to lose those close to me."

"I had already believed my parents dead, I shouldn't have let myself give in to the hope that they may have escaped. The Thrunes are too efficient, and so we too must be."

He clasps a hand on Brasks shoulder and nods at the rest of the Ravens. "Thank you, however, for returning my parents rings to me. It means more than I could really say."

The remainder of the day is spent in preparation for the Ravens. Femi hits the markets with help from Laria and any other followers they can muster to sell their goods and pool the money. Once again the halfling woman proves her resourcefulness and finds someone who can provide Femi with the Sepia Snake Sigil they need.

When the next morning comes, you're all fed well and seen off by Laria. The trip to the museum is once again uneventful. The bodies of the dead humans and spiders are untouched, and the scene is even more gruesome than before because of it.

For the second time in as many days, you find yourselves descending the too-long stairs below the statue of Aroden, the light of the archive can be seen below where you know Yilliv is waiting to handle any intruders.

"Sorry Laria, my apologies. And yes, Rexus, our apologies to you as well. We get a little focused..." he trails off and lets it go.

After shopping, Femi distributes the remaining gold to the group.

We each earned 429gp after our purchase. So please note that on your character sheets.

Just before the party enters Yilliv's chamber, Femi asks, "Is there anything we want to do to prepare?" he has nothing, but doesn't want to rush in.

On opening the door, he beckons to Yilliv. "For your help yesterday, we've gotten you this magical scroll." he holds it up. "Please check it out." he tosses it to the strange creature, hoping they don't have to kill him.

I hope this works!

"You have returned?"

Yilliv sounds a mixture of excited and suspicious when he greets you. He's in the same place you left him the day before, though there is a pile of books beneath him, more than anyone could reasonable have ready in the short time you were gone, but they've been piled neatly and with care.

"I did not expect to see you back-" He stops speaking as Femi throws him the magical scroll. He catches it in trembling, excited hands and opens it, his eyes quickly scanning the words.

Wish a brief flash, the raven's trap springs to life as the trigger words are read by the strange creature. An image of a large sepia snake springs to life and launches itself toward Yilliv, you hear nothing but a loud crash and see a flash of brown light. As your eyes adjust you see the magical scroll on the ground and Yilliv unharmed.

Femi retaliates first with a force bolt and an apology. The magical bolt hits the Scrivenite but it's hard to tell if it's actually done any damage. Femi please include a DC 15 caster level check with your next post and any subsequent spells that may effect Yilliv.

Myradil shrugs off the more supernatural effects of the attack and strikes back but has trouble connecting. Fortunately Brask steps up and does manage to damage Yilliv, though not as much as he expected.
You could not move 10 ft Brask so you did not charge with your attack, but you still hit.

Elias and Kalem flank their foe and launch their attacks but neither can seems to actually hurt the scrivenite in anyway.

"This fight will end in my death, or yours, unless you flee. Please, do not continue this fight." Yilliv pleas with the party as he continues to lash out. Though he clearly regrets it, he does not seem to be pulling any punches.

Two small problems with that plan, 1- I am raging, and 2- I have a heavy shield strapped to my arm. It will take a round to get the shield off and I'll have to get out of rage to use a bow i think.

Rage doesn't prevent ranged weapons, if you don't have any other good ranged options, you might as well take the bow and loose the shield and be ready to fire next round.

Unfortunately for Yilliv, his risky attempt to rise above the combat is met with sharp end of Brask's blade and the strange paper man seems to crumple beneath the blow. His ribbons never make it toward Elias, as they fall limply halfway to the target.

"They know you're here." The scrivenite manages to mutter before his tome shaped skull hits the floor and spills open. The strange words written on it begin to fade until the only evidence of life is an empty book.

With some preparation, the Ravens head further into the compound. For the most part their progress is smooth and uninterrupted. They pass a number of rooms as they move through the hallways, mostly cots with a few personal affects sitting around. Pictures of family, spare clothes, popular books and other such things can be found, but nothing of value. You do find a single picture in one room of a young Rexus and his parents, suggesting these rooms had been used most recently by the Order of Sacred Archivists.

When you reach the end of the second hallway however, you're greeted with a particularly grisly sight. A tangle of barbed chains is spread throughout the chamber (F4). The smell of rotting flesh overwhelms you even as you spot the corpse of a man dressed in drab robes hung from the chains. In the very center, suspended above the flagstones by its black iron tendrils, rests a fistsized, twelve-sided box fashioned from wood and bronze. Wooden cases along the southwestern wall have been smashed and overturned. Small pieces of paper covered with notes are scattered throughout the room, as if someone’s been studying the strange tableau for days.

K. Arcana DC 20:

the situation is a strange manifestation of power that’s likely leaked in from a kyton-influenced corner of the Plane of Shadow. It can likely be deactivated with the right spell, or by a person skillful with magical devices or spellcraft.

"I think that's far enough." Says Nox as she rises from her hiding place wedged beneath one of the fallen book cases. At the same time a number of Asmodeans do the same. As they move, Nox whistles and her pet hellhound, another asmodean and a Lemure step into the hallway cutting off further one exit for the Raven's.

Those of you who attended the protest where you met Rexus weeks before remember Nox as the woman who took a knife directly to the throat, and you remember too that wound closing before you very eyes.

Okay, Elias you can move through the same doorway that Kalem and everyone else is in because a grappled foe does not get attacks of opportunity. So if this changes your turn let me know.

Re: Tripping a Grappled Opponent.

The foe is pinned but not prone so, Femi I imagine a trip attack would work against it I think the main issue is what to do with Kalem in this case since he is in control of the grapple.

The way I see it we have a couple of options.

1)He could, as a free action, break the grapple and let the foe fall prone.

2)He could move with the foe and make a check to maintain the grapple (Reflex or another grapple check)

The few times I could find this question online was always in relation to the grappler being tripped, and the one time it was actually about the grappled foe there was only 1 very unsatisfactory answer on reddit. The prone and grappled positions can exist independently but it seems strange to me that the one maintaining the grapple wouldn't in some way be involved.

I'm fine with your ruling, and agree with your thoughts on the strangeness, but be careful. You seem to be saying that by dropping prone, you can free yourself from a grapple, and I don't think that's as intended. You're not leaving your space, and there's no penalty to grapple a prone opponent - and no requirement you go prone to do it - that I can find in the rules.

Also it would give you two tries at getting out of a grapple - the normal opposed check and forcing another check by dropping prone, a free action. I'm fine with that as I fear grapples as a wizard, but that might not be what you intend. :)

Definitely a gray area - I blame the ever annoying grapple rules. Might be that Femi never does it out of the fear of what might happen so you'll never have to make this call. He's no fighter after all!

In regards to grappling, once engaged thusly, both grappler and grapplee are given the 'grappled' tag, so I guess that it means either way? Sorry, I don't think that was helpful.

What I'd intended to mention but did not, is that these options would occur the controlling grappler chooses to let the trip happen, that they could choose instead to maintain the grapple and keep their opponent from falling.

Though that may muddy things further. The above was more my musings and not so much a formal ruling since a trip attempt was not actually made, I will think on it further.

Another combat manuever question, one option if I succeed my next grapple check is to tie up my target so she effectively helpless. Can I do that since I have rope in my bag, or if not, can I have someone get the rope in my bag for me so I can do it.

According to the grapple rules the only requirement is that you have them grappled, or pinned, since the target is pinned, assuming you pass your check to maintain the grapple you can tie up woman.

Okay, so, we will get back to Laria and Rexus in a little while, but in the mean time you are all now Level 2! Congrats!

You may also preemptively sell and divvy the loot, but no purchases or anything just yet. I'll also suggest re-reading the Rebellion rules from the Players Hand Guide as we will be getting into the meat of the Rebellion mechanics very shortly. You don't need to understand them 100% but having the gist will help move things along.

For HP we'll be using the PFS style (average +1)

So if your Hit Die is 1d10 you get 5+1+Con (if any)+Favored Class Bonus (if Applicable)

When you level up your PC's please post here letting me know whats changing on your character sheet. If you have any questions let me know.

+1 Arcane Pool and Arcane Reservoir (4/5)

I've updated the loot sheet. Before we divvy, please make sure there's nothing in the 'to sell' column any of you want. There's a lot of stuff there and I don't want anyone to feel like there was something they wanted but we sold it too quickly. :)

I'm also setting aside 750gp in group funds for a wand of cure light wounds if that's OK with everyone. I feel healing should be a group purchase, but happy to chat about it if anyone feels differently.

Is there anything else we should buy as a group yet? I know we might 'stake' our rebellion, but we can do that with future funds I think if we need to.

I'll post to let everyone know how much our first share is after everyone levels and has had a chance to check the sheet (link at the top of the page).

At work, will update when home but someone can take the bracers or armor. Didn't realize they didn't stack with current armor.

Maybe one of our casters can use it. Otherwise it can mean a suit of platemail for me if we sell/trade it.

The Rebellion Sheet has been added under the map in the header for this game. Please look at it, make sure your Officer position and stat bonus is correct and try to get acquainted with it. I will keep it updated but I'd like everyone to check it now and then to make sure it's correct.

The first order of business will be to decide the focus of the rebellion. Security (a more physicaal, riot and fight focused organizatiob), Loyalty (the silver ravens will base their success in political clout, or Secrecy (a shadow organization built on information and black mail.)

Once that's decided you will want to decide what two actions you would like to take for your first week.

Note
Special Teams do not count against your maximum number of teams

The Fushi Sisters have the following abilties: Gather Gold and Gather Information.

Laria Longroad: All Loyalty Checks to recruit supporters get a +2 while Laria is an ally of the Silver Ravens

Rexus Victocara: The Noteriety Score for the rebellion lowers by one during each weeks Upkeep Phase while Rexus is an ally of the Ravens.

We will have this discussion in game as well, but it may be a little easier to make suggestions ooc, so as far as each weeks rebellion actions are concerned I will lift my suggestion to keep everything in the game play thread.

If we're discussing partially in the discussion thread, Kalem will probably go for the idea that will get his mum out of prison quickly and safely. The best method for this (in my mind) is loyalty. Get enough political clout, and you can accomplish all sorts of things.

Just looked at the sheet. While it looks complicated, I can tell this is gonna be a tense game.

I can't say I understand it all, but he spreadsheet looks great as far as I can tell.

I added a few of the notes from your post so it's all in one place. Hope that's OK.

oh, by the way, I'm curious, how obvious is it when I use Bit of Luck? It's not going to do me a whole lot of good, hiding my nature as a cleric, if my eyes glow or whatever anytime I try to use Bit of Luck to increase my chances of bluffing the town guard.

I appreciate the notes I had planned on doing. I've been out of the house a lot these last couple days and have done most of the spread sheet work on mobile which is a pain.

I've removed the sentinel buffs that were added to the spreadsheet because they'll change week to week based on what actions you take and also because the Sentinel bonus is distributed based on the rebellion focus which wasn't decided yet.

Going to let Elias and Mykhail weigh in before I move that forward just in case they have any compelling arguments for Security or Secrecy.

Elias, since spell like abilities do not require any of the obvious spell casting compoenents, your foes can tell you've cast something but will be unable to discern what was cast. You should be in the clear for your domain abilities.

in case my post wasn't clear, I'm also voting loyalty. DOWN WITH THE TYRANT!

also, yaay that! Eventually, of course, questioning guardsmen will just be able to discern that I've cast Implosion, but that little solution is a ways out.

Yeah, when I can start casting spells, then we're in for a trip down Obvious avenue. I think 90% of my verbal spellcasting components begins or ends with "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!"

Labyrinth HP 47/47; AC 15/14/11; Saves 4/5/7; Init +3; Perc +10; Sense Motive +2

OK. Treasure stuff is done, and some items sold.

Setting aside 750gp for a wand of cure light wounds, the remaining is divided up between the five of us. We each get 793gp. Please note that on your individual character sheets.

Male Human Gunslinger

Mykhail is very justice driven so I am also going to aim for loyalty.

So these two action we need to decide on,are they predefined choices or do we just kinda wing it and say "Let's go investigate the rumor," and "Let's create a secondary safe house in case of emergencies"
?

All of the actions are listed under the "Rebellion in Play" section of the Hell's Rebels Players Guide.

I think we should start with these two options, though I only really feel strongly about recruitment (which we can only do once per turn anyway):

- Recruit Supporters
Femi is happy to change leadership roles to become a recruiter - but anyone can do it. We just need someone in that role, uh, maybe. If I change out though, our Secrecy drops from 5 to 1. :( So maybe it should be Kalem so we only lose two total points on the chart instead of four.

Normally changing officers is an action, but now that we are learning about stuff, maybe we can have done it at the beginning? I dunno... Not sure if a +1 to our Recruitment roll is that big a deal - I just don't know the system well enough.

- Recruit Team
Obtain Peddlers so we get some sort of cashflow into our coffers. I suspect we're going to want to spend money in the future and it'd be nice to not have to seed the organization.

Kalem knows he isn't too helpful in specialty roles, so he's happy to move where directed.

Just a reminder that your Special Team has Gather Gold as an action it can perform. If you already took that into account then carry on. :)

I think Femi should stay in his role.

So having the Sisters gather gold is part of our two actions, or an additional one?

Missed the part about switching officers.

Just want to let you know that the AP at least the first book, does not expand the rebellion rules for me at all, it references everything that's in the players guide so we all have the same information.

You do not need a recruiter to use the recruit supporters action, it only applies a bonus, so if that's what you're worried about, you can relax.

More recruited supporters means the rebellion "levels" faster which means more actions per week, more boons for the party, but also more gold required as you level. At max rank for this book you'll need 50gp in the treasury at the start of each week, currently you need 10gp.

Having the sisters gather gold is one of your two actions. Special teams don't count against your total teams but sending them out does cost an action.

Labyrinth HP 47/47; AC 15/14/11; Saves 4/5/7; Init +3; Perc +10; Sense Motive +2

Ahhhhh.... My eyes are a little more open.

I change my request then to Recruitment and Gather Gold using the sisters. For the recruitment, let's try it cold, without changing anyone. If it is troublesome, maybe we can change things around.

It's only a +1 per level, so it'd be a +2 now (not +1 as I said earlier - forgot we leveled up!). Dunno if that's a significant thing or not, but we'll find out as we muddle through. :)

Seems like a plan to me. At the very least it'll give us an idea of how to proceed based on results.

I second Recruitment and Gather Gold.
