Tanrov will take all the gear off the dwarf and leave it to one side. "Anyone want it?"
Kevin Hurly |
Kevin looks over the armor, "I'll take it if Tanrov doesn't want it. THe shield and hammer I have no use for. Let me heal the dwarf and see what we can learn from him."
Kevin casts cure light wounds on the dwarf. When he awakens he says, "My name is Kevin. You are lucky to be alive. I am tired of having to kill those that have a chance at redemption, but I will do what I must. Would you like to redeem yourself? You can start by telling us where the Sword of Valor is and what else you know about this fortress."

Tanrov was uninjured before this past round, so I suppose she held her action.
You might want to spend some resources here or this dwarf will beat you all like a rented mule and it will be a pretty damned short campaign.
I can't tell from your character sheet if you have mythic power attack (you should). If you do, spending a mythic point to kill that attack penalty would be a good idea.
As it is, you missed twice.
Kevin Hurly |
I've got it and I've already spent the mythic on it, that's why there is no -3 to the attacks. I've only got 1 mythic point left and a smite. I'll smite the dwarf next if I live that long.

Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
Doesn't the dwarf have a glaive? Being the dude on the cover of the book? And how did he get 30AC? Guessing here.. Plate +2 Dex +1 and say Armour neck and ring +1 = AC24
Seeing as Uelarik actually goes before Kevin, he casts Haste which gives +1 to hit, does that make Kevins attack hit? Kevin has no mythic points left afaik.
drbuzzard |
The dwarf is using a dwarven war axe instead of a glaive because they suck (using a reach weapon without the ability to keep enemies at length and avoid getting cornered and useless is a very bad idea, so I'm not willing to nerf a boss like that). He has a shield. There's also these crazy things called buffing spells and feats.
If you want to simply say I'm cheating, you can do it more directly I suppose. I rebuild about everything you fight in here you realize, because as listed you're be plowing through this module without any challenges. The AP, as is standard, is designed for a group of 4 players, with a 15 point buy and no skill at optimization. Given that I can't force you to make bad choices in your builds, there's no way to make you find the as written module hard.
If you've read about how this AP runs, you'd have hear it goes off the rails power wise around this point. A GM has to redo pretty much everything or you'd sleep through it.
If you'd prefer that, we can, though and I let you have your game of 'I Win'.
Tanrov Shadow-Graxt |
Well no that's not what I was saying, GM's change stuff not really cheat, and you could have said he had a shield, that makes a difference, and yes I understand about buffs. We are also only 3 and a healer and if you wanted my dude would be cactus right now, it's just getting tot he point that, we may not be able to beat this guy as his AC is so high and he can almost hit us at will for lots of damage, I also didn't take mythic power attack to not be total munchkin, which you seemed to earlier dissuade, so colour me confused at you now saying it's a good idea for the 14 STR Paladin to have that ability, when he is already pretty nerfed combat wise.. he did roll an 18 and miss.... that's a 90% miss chance... at a guess I think i have a 60% miss chance buffed.. just expressing confusion.
drbuzzard |
He missed on an 18 as an iterative attack. I am assume you always optimize.
But say we assume the haste went first, then the crit hits, and actually does confirm because then it isn't an iterative attack. Bad guy just got whalloped hard.
But as for taking major damage, that's how mythic works. Having taken my home game to the last book now, it's clearly a game of rocket tag. I have to pull major shenanigans to make bosses last more than a round (or even long enough to go). I don't know that I've had a combat last 3 rounds in a long time, and honestly if I'm not careful my bad guys rarely get more than one shot off.
Having a dedicated healer optimized to the task is actually to your benefit, especially as broken as some of the mythic healing gets.
drbuzzard |
