Game Master Gollen

Kingmaker act 1

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hello lady's and gents,

I'm looking for interest in a military oriented Kingmaker PBP game that I intend to run. I need 4-5 players who's character is; (A) solider in the Brevory military, (B) loyal to the sword lords of Restove or antagonistic to the rulers of Brevory, and © fills a responsibility niche such as Supply, Command, Scout, ext.

Character Creation guidelines::
PRD material only, no Witch, Summoner or Gunslinger. Samurai and Ninja on a case-by-case basis. 20pt buy. 1st level, max Hp. no starting gold.

Your current situation:
You sit mentally an physically exhausted in a prison cell of a southern border fort. For days you have waited to be executed.

Two weeks ago you where awoken in the middle of the night by fellow Brevory soldiers. Charged with sedition against the Crown, you should have been brought before your commanding officer for public trial and punishment; instead you where sequestered and transported to Restove.

Arrival in the city followed the same pattern of injustice. Your trial was held in secret before a panel of three high ranking sword lords and the lord mayor. With the charges read aloud, the panel unanimously sentenced you to be Hung until Dead. The trial lasted only several minuets, at no time where you aloud to speak in your own defense.

Question’s an suggestion's welcome.
thanks for your time

But this IS basically Kingmaker, right? plot, setting, and all?

Also are the DE Primer Archetypes allowed? I'd like to enter a Sword Saint Samurai, but give him a Brevoy feel. If not, I'll go barbarian.

In! , Intrested in a Strategist Cavalier.

Strategist:

Some cavaliers make a lifelong mission out of their exceptional ability to direct troops on the battlefield, combining tactical insight with a preternatural skill at improving the teamwork of their allies in order to win the day. Such strategists are masters at learning the strengths and weaknesses of those they fight alongside, and at employing those observations at the most opportune moments. The best of them are also skilled at determining the strengths and weaknesses of their enemies, as well as at countering some of those strengths with their own formidable abilities.

Tactician (Ex):
As the cavalier class feature, except that a strategist can use this ability once per day at 1st level, plus one additional time per day at 5th level and for every four levels thereafter (to a maximum of five times per day at 17th level).

Drill Instructor (Ex):
At 4th level, a strategist learns to train his fellow adventurers in the nuances of squad combat. By spending 10 minutes and expending 1 use of his challenge ability, the strategist can grant the use of a teamwork feat that he knows to up to four of his allies, similar to the tactician ability. As with tactician, allies need not meet the prerequisites of the granted feat, but they retain the use of this feat for 10 minutes plus 1 minute for every two levels the cavalier possesses, as long as the cavalier is visible and can be heard by his allies. If the cavalier falls unconscious or cannot be both seen and heard, his allies lose the benefit of the granted feat until the condition is remedied. This ability replaces expert trainer.

Tactical Advantage (Ex):
At 14th level, whenever a strategist uses his tactician ability to grant the use of a teamwork feat to his allies, he can move up to his speed as a free action either before or after granting the feat. This movement provokes attacks of opportunity normally. This ability replaces greater banner.

Strategic Supremacy (Ex):
At 18th level, a strategist gains the ability not only to improve his allies' abilities, but also to disrupt the teamwork of his enemies. Whenever the strategist uses the tactician ability, he can choose to cancel out the effects of one teamwork feat employed by any of his opponents within 30 feet instead of granting the use of a teamwork feat to his allies. This ability replaces the cavalier's 18th-level bonus feat.

Will post shortly

Are we allowed Traits?

Are you looking for a balanced party or just the best possible characters.

I am asking because if I make class X built to Y(be an archer as an example), and 5 other make class X built to Y I will probably try another class to get into the game.

Core Races only or 0-HD races that are not core races?

Origen is a NG Taldian Strategist (Cavalier), Order of the Lion

Here is Ghorum, a dwarf Ranger. I'll need to tweak a few things (backstory, etc.).

Donovan Krauss, Human Knife Master. A member of New Stetven's thriving underworld Donovan was unlucky enough to be caught in a raid a week before his 15th birthday. He was offered a choice between the mines and military service, he chose the service. While at first he was given the grunt work, digging latrines and the like, he was eventually recognized for the skills that made him such a successful thief.

@Taanyth Tuilinn: The game will follow the basic plot outline of the AP. however i will be taking some liberty with the encounters and motivations of various npcs. In regards to the sword saint samurai, i dont seem to find it in the PRD, so it is disallowed. sorry

@Josh Srader: I was incomplete with my character guidelines. Every one should choose two traits. I See that Origen Antigro has chosen his, Chivalrous however is not a trait from the PRD, but the inner sea world guide. please limit selections to the Pathfinder PRD in the future.

@Mr. Swagger: Im looking for characters that balance out a party. Any 0 hd race found in the PRD will be considered under two conditions. 1) you can provide a convincing reason that such a character is a part of Brevory’s military. 2) we can agree to bring the character in line power wise to the base races.

@Windstar: please see my response to Mr Swagger

Hey everyone,

I am going to be submitting in a few minutes a Military Wizard that will start with wizard as a class, then the next two levels, he will be taking fighter, then finish up with wizard the rest of the way till I go with the PC Eldrich Knight.

Submission will be soon.

They are already pretty equal if not lesser. The problem would be fitting them into the military.

@ other potential players: I would post a link to anything you want to play so the GM does not have to look for it. If he can't find it then it is not going to fly.

1 more question:Do you want us to write about how we got thrown in jail or will you be taking care of that?

edit: My military responsibilities are/were Tactical Advisor/Magic Defense specialist.
My rank was XO directly below a commander unless the GM was to determine rank and not include it in the backstory.

I am assuming company commander, since I am only level 1, or I could have been in officer school when I got in trouble.

I think I write the story, and let the GM change details that need to be changed.

edit2: I am going with a lore oracle

Scarab Sages

Here is my submission.

Ptolemny Aggredor, a half elven magic user has worn his half elven heritage openly for years. His uncanny abilities with the quill and diplomacy (by normal and magical means) had changed his fortune up until this point in his career. When a persuasive tongue didnt work, his magical charms did the trick.

Armed with a half dozen different patents of Nobility (All fake), he was able to rub elbows with the most influential of the Brevoy elite.

He is a firm believer in the truth that it is WHO you know, not what you know, that determines your lot in life. It is for this reason he has lived a double life. Does he plan on being a noble one day... sure he does, and he was in the process of making sure that happened before beig incarcerated.

While he sits in his cell awaiting his execution, he knows that he was betrayed by one of the Brevoy nobles that he had offended or charmed.

Who was it though?

It would have been his top priority to find out, if his head wasnt about to roll. But in his dreams, he has killed a good twenty of noble birth that he thinks could have been the reason behind his current situation.

If only he could find a way to escape...

As to what nitch Ptolemny could fill, there is no doubt that his ability to forge fake documentation, sweet talk his way through just about anything, and his knowledge of the brevoy military and nobility make him an outstanding source of knowledge for this particular AP. I see him being an advisor mainly. Although, he could help in "supply" with his documentation and diplomacy abilities, and in the "defence" area, as his time in the military would be very helpful.

In battle, his ability to turn enemies against eachother is huge, and he hopes he gets the chance to do that again.

Thinking of his Longsword in the hands of another man, sets him on edge, and he is seen slamming his fist aginst the wall of his cell in frustration over that thought.

background story, spoilered for length:
What a shame it is to have the talent you don't care for, and to have a lack of talent for that which you love the most. Such is the case of Rhual Ghaan, an imposing half-orc, who would have loved the life of a scholar and artist. Now Rhual Ghaan is not as quick-tempered as many half-orcs. His patience and demeanor could match that patience of any human or even elf. Rhual Ghaan while charming, and perceptive, never had the book smarts to truly be called a scholar. For some reason he always had an easier time with learning things if they were presented in the form of entertainment. His dreams of being a scholar were were not helped by his father either, who was a successful mercenary and adventurer who was always proclaiming that any son of his would fight and kill for a living.

When Rhual Ghaan was 16 he was sent off to a military academy. His father was blind to the boys pleas of not wanting to go, and once he got there he frustrated the placement officers to no end. The boy's physical attributes were those of a fine solider, even if he was not particularly quick, but he did not have the resolve to become a warrior of any sort. At the same time he did not have the mental aptitude for wizardry either. Now normally in such situations the candidate is just sent back home, but this was the son of Gorumax, Strongtusk, surely there must be talent within him.

While he was given odd jobs to do around the academy until he could be placed he ran into Kazallin, an instructor and former adventurer. Kazallin was about to retire from the academy as an instructor and go on one last adventurer or two. Somehow Kazallin was convinced that Rhual Ghaan had the potiential to be a wizard. Transferring a student to an outside instructor, which is what Kazallin was about to become was unheard of, but if it got Gorumax off their backs about Rhual's progress it was a done deal.

Rhual Ghaan having already received some weapon training from his father really only had to learn the spellcasting from Kazallin. Well that was easier said than done, and Rhual Ghaan was struggling with simple cantrips. Eventually his patience ran out. Kaz also figured sending the boy home or back to the academy would not be so bad, and that his father would just have to accept the bad news.

Gorumax was devastated. He was determined to make something out of his son. He took him down to the mercenary company where he had cut his teeth when he was young. As Gorumax was pulling strings Rhual Ghaan walked off unnoticed , and started to mess around with maps which had the battleplans for small units. He corrected a few tactical errors, and to make a long story short he had a new job, even though his "know it all" attitude almost made him lose the job on several occasions.
His ability reached a member of the Brevoy military, and he was recruited once his contract with the mercenaries ended.

Instead of sending him to a regular unit they sent him to a covert op's unit. Everyone was expected to do field work however, even tactical planners. One particular mission had them investigating a sorcerer that was accused of necromancy and dealing with demons. The rumors turned out to be true. After the necromancer was captured, the group which included Rhual Ghaan was investigating the remainder of the house, and Rhual Ghaan wandered off on his own and found a secret door. Inside a cage of magical energy was a monstrous beast. It claimed the sorcerer held it prisoner, and that if released it would grant him anything. Part of Rhual Ghaan wanted to run, but if he could outwit the creature, which he presumed to be evil he could get a "gift" and not be bothered with the beast ever again. The monster was informed of the fact that there were others searching the house, so the deal was put off until later He bid the young half-orc farewell for the time being.

A few days later Rhual Ghaan returns, and while he was away he did some research which let him know some outsiders could grant power, but he had to be careful with his wording of the agreement. Rhual Ghaan did well, but the words were not quiet perfect. The demon gave him more intelligence, but a curse was also attached. Whenever he tried to share knowledge the words and writing came out garbled. This meant of course that he could no longer do his job. Realizing he had been tricked, and eventually no longer without a job he begged the gods to remove this curse. After many years Nethys took pity on him. He sent his herald to inform Rhual Ghaan that he would change the curse, but not remove it, to always remind him that knowledge must be gained over timed, not instantly. Rhual Ghaan also had to agree to continue to pursue knowledge and pass it on as needed, and in return he would be given powers to help.

Personality:
He is not a bad person, but he does talk down to people, and he fancies himself an artist and scholar when in reality he is not that much smart than the average person if at all, and hates to be proven wrong.

Party contribution:
He can cast cure spells, among other cleric spells. He is decent in combat, can serve as the party face, and having 4 skill points he is not too bad in that department either. It will get even better over time.

He has the tongues curse

If it makes it the story work better we can say the character was thrown in jail because his inability to speak or write made caused a lot of deaths, and it is after he is thrown in fail that he becomes an oracle.
I can provide mechanics if necessary.

edit:I just realized my character is in a mercenary group. I will change it to so that he is in the military instead

Sorry, I'm so used to going to archives of Nethys for Traits. Updated to Indomitable Faith. However, I'd like to spin it it as Faith in the Swordlords, if thats ok? And is a trait from the KM players guide ok aswell?

@Mr. Swagger Niche' force commander, General, leader of troops.

Scarab Sages

Ptolemny's military niche would be "The Wildcard", and his out of combat niche would be diplomat and master of documents (or clerk if you want to put him down in character...).

Since I am not familiar with all the niches that could be chosen, I provided my character sheet which would show you exactly what Ptolemny can do.

Dont get this dude wrong, he will be a strong combatant in melee, and at higher levels, quite the nasty nasty.

CC

Cuttin Curt what about intelligence/counterintelligence?

Knife Master is a Rogue Archetype.

Josh Shrader-Origen Anigro-Cavalier(strategist)-military niche(General, leader of troops.)
Ghorum Kraak-Ranger
Roshan-Donovan Krauss-Rogue (Knife Master)-military niche(scout/spy)
CuttinCurt-Ptolemny Aggredor-Wizard-niche (diplomat and master of documents (or clerk if you want to put him down in character...)
Mr.Swagger-Rhual Ghaan-Lore Oracle-Niche(Tactical Advisor to commanding officers /Magic Defense specialist.)

PS:The niche thing is more for the GM since he requested it. It is not representative of your in-game role which would be skills character, party face, and other common RP terms. I am curious as to why it matters, but I do think it will be interesting. I also think that for those of without military experience he should choose the niche for us so it our real like experience or lack of, won't be held against us. If it is just fluff, and it won't affect the game I won't post it with the next listing which I have to admit is for myself when I list the classes.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, he uses things he learned as a thief, combining them with the outdoorsman skills gained as a fieldsman for the Brevoy Military. He works mostly as a scout and infiltrator, often good enough to pass for the enemy, at least at first glance he'll worm his way into the enemy encampment and make away with important information.

Definately something this guy can do.

Hello all;
Welcome to yet another day of siting in a prison cell, waiting for your inevitable demise. I will be closing recruitment Friday Feb 3rd at 11:59pm est.

As regards my military niche Idea: I shall offer situational bonuses and rewards for creative use of these. For example a intelligence / counterintelligence specialist might recognise someone who is probing for information and be able to feed that person false information. A tactical adviser might be able to predict how a force will assault a specific location. On that note might i suggest that one of you look into a supply position such as quartermaster. Prices can be a bit exorbitant and stock hard to come by, in the back end of nowhere.

@ Mr Swagger: thank you for the convenient listing of applicants.

@Ghorum Kraak: i am unable to find your traits listed in the PRD, please reconsider them. I am looking forward to reading your back story.

Liberty's Edge

How about a scrounger/quatermaster. Someone who makes sure his people have the best possible equipment, even if that means "liberating" it from other units. Well not a bad fella, he is more like a military fence, able to get his hand on almost anything given time...and always having some sort of racket going...gambling, selling of military equipment, etc. I suppose he would be a rogue...but I will have to think more about him. Just a though...what do you think??

Scarab Sages

Although this character would be agood at counter intel/intel gathering, quartermaster is by far better suited for his background.

Not to take something away from another character, but that i could definately help there too.

It seems that I am just a helpful person.

@Daniel Stewart: There wont be many friendly units to liberate equipment from, but the concept is interesting. Please put it together for submission.

Josh Shrader-Origen Anigro-Cavalier(strategist)-military niche(General, leader of troops.)
Ghorum Kraak-Ranger
Roshan-Donovan Krauss-Rogue ?(Knife Master)-military niche(unknown)
CuttinCurt-Ptolemny Aggredor-Wizard-niche (primary job gathering supplies, secondary job gathering information.)?
Mr.Swagger-Rhual Ghaan-Lore Oracle-Niche(Tactical Advisor to commanding officers /Magic Defense specialist.)

Daniel Stewart could have connections so his niche could be niche(special equipment acquisition/black market) That would make him different from a regular quatermaster supply person. Is that ok Daniel?

PS: To any new people, nothing I wrote above is written in stone other than my own niche unless the GM thinks I would be better off doing something else. It is only a suggestion. I am trying to get into the game just like you are.

Would gathering supplies be considered seperate from crafting items? Because I could make a item crafter(wizard or cleric or alchemist) who focuses on cranking out weapons and other items to order. As long as this is still recruiting anyways.

Mortifuus wrote:

Yes I would consider the acquisition of supplies separate then the creation of items. I look forward to you submission, recruitment will end on Friday the 3rd @ 11:59pm Est. Please keep in mind that I am looking for soldiers in this adventure

Okie Dokie, should have it down by the deadline. How does a Human Cleric who focuses on close combat and item creation feats sound? Cleric of the God that likes to fight no matter what side he is on(i forgot his name :( )

Gorum is the one that like to fight.

The window in your cell is too high for you to be able to see what the shouting from outside is about. You hear men sobbing, as soldiers shout for prisoners to stand in line and to keep still. One by one names are called out with a list of crimes, followed by the Creak of a rope being suddenly pulled taught. Half way through the ordeal you hear your own name called out. It would seem that you have died for your crimes against the Throne. You might start to wounder how much longer you will be made to sit in this cell, and if things worse then a simple hanging might not be to far in your future.

Recruitment for this game is currently over. I would like to thank everyone for their time and interest.

If Origen Antigro, Donovan Krauss, Ptolemny Aggredor, an Rhual Ghaan could please check in at the discussion thread we can move on to the fun part

I am about to make a profile for my character. I will be posting soon.
