Alright. Looks like we are all here.

You are goblins of the Licktoad Tribe. Or at least you will be someday. For now though, you're whelps-ravenous, amoral, grumpy goblin children who learned to stop eating rocks only a few months ago. But with every day that passes, your whelping cage seems smaller and smaller. The outside world increasingly beckons to your goblin curiosity (and appetite), but the hateful cage bars holds you at bay.

A few other whelps flourish in the cage, even as the smaller and weaker ones are thinned out. Kettlehead stands head and shoulders above the competition, being a goblin of impeccable flatulence and having already fashioned himself an impressive have from a teapot left lying too close to the cages. Even adult goblins- legendary Chief Rendwattle Gutwad among them- have taken note of Kettlehead and his advanced skills of poking the rest of you with sticks and delivering bruise-inducing noogies.

But today is special. Today, instead of a bucket of fish heads, whelp-wrangler Loptop brought a key and unlocked the door to your cage, spilling you sorry lot into the world for the first time. Other Licktoads gather around, eyeballing you and chewing on the fish heads that should have been yours. You all are too big for cages. Loptop snorts But your not Licktoads yet. Licktoads gotta be useful. Licktoads gotta be tough! Licktoads gotta earn their places in the tribe. And that's what you're gonna do now! Show us where you belong, even if that ends being in the boneyard!

Every goblin tribe has unique traditions to mark whelps' coming of age and to determine their roles within the clan. The Licktoads borrow a tradition used by nearby humans and force their young to earn a variety of so called "badges" by succeeding at arbitrary and cruel tasks. More than simple patches, Licktoad Badges are unique magic items, crafted largely through accident and goblin stubbornness that grant accident-prone whelps a few second chances at survival.

Whelp-Wrangler Loptop lines all of the goblin whelps up for assessment. He quickly excuses Kettlehead because of his obvious superiority and remarkable headgear. After a few awkward moments, the tribe gives the whelps four challenges, one at a time. A whelp can refuse a challenge but it is quickly followed by a pelting of mud and garbage from the crowd (1 point of damage)

Loptop speaks up once again. You must prove your mastery over dangerous creatures by tying this leash around a large spider down in the pits.

You can do this all at once. Need a DC 9 CMB to successfully wrangle the spider followed by a DC 12 Dex check to tie the secured knot.

Following a successful attack roll against a creature of the animal type, the user of the Licktoad Badge increases her damage by 1d6 points. Not doubled on a critical hit. User can decide to use the badge after rolling normal damage first.

Loptop immediately moves onto the next task. Next you whelps must compete in Happy Beat! The crowd roars in excitement. You must injure yourselves in creative ways for the tribes delight!

Each attempt to injure yourself deals 1d3 points on non-lethal damage to himself. Especially creative ways deal an additional 1 or 2 pts of damage. You can make the injury entertaining with a DC 15 Bluff check or Cha check gaining a bonus equal to the amount of non-lethal damage sustained. You can retry as long as you remain conscious.

Finally free from the whelping cage, the bright eyed hopefuls have only one task left before they are recognized as full-fledged goblins by the Licktoad Tribe.

You maybe think you be tough because you got out of your baby cage, whelps? Psht! You no be goblins. The only real goblins are Licktoads, and a Licktoad with out a toad is just.... lick. SO. If you want to be Licktoads, you need to catch a toad at Tadpole Bog and also not die. Then you take the toad to Cave of Darkfear and also not die. Then you show your toad to Darkfear Spirit, and maybe if you really are goblin, then you also not die. Get toad. Show Spirit. Kill anything that wants to stop you. Don't die. That last part is very important. You leave in morning.

Loptop sketches out a crude map, showing the location of Tadpole Bog and the Cave of Darkfear. Turning Loptop allows Kettlehead and his followers to leave immediately.

Dc 12 Perception:
You are able to scavenge a few weapons. tablelegs that can be used as either a club or a quarterstaff. A case containing 7 darts. The cases lid could also be used as a light wooden shield as it contains a thick leather strap.

In the morning all of your wounds are healed.

In the morning you are shooed away out of the Camp and begin to make your way towards the Tadpole Bog. The occasional lazy bubble breaks the surface of this shallow, stinky pond, and a haze of insects clouds the air in every direction. Only the occasional gurp-chirp of toad song breaks through the drone of bugs. The muck stagnant waters are thick with algae and insect larvae making it ideal breeding ground for a particular nonplussed species of toad whose psychoactive secretions have helped the goblins pass boring afternoons for decades. The water is only a foot deep and the goblins are light enough to not pass through the layer of peat at the pond's bottom.

To catch a toad you need a successful DC 15 CMB. You can increase your chances witha little cunning by using special tactics such as climbing to higher ground, making toad calls or using stealth with a Dc 12 of the appropriate skill gaining a +2 to your CMB.

Once he arrives at the bog he slips into shadows and sneaks up on a nice fat toad... and pounces on it!!!! It almost slips through his fingers, but because he surprised it so thoroughly, it fails to wriggle away and he maintains his grip on it... Wanting so bad to be a licktoad, he licks it from tail to head!

He plops the toad into the same bag he keeps his yummy earthworm in and heads for the cave... (or are we supposed to wait til everyone has a toad and go the cave as a group?)

Reta spies Mogmurch finding some darts and inspects the area, her search efforts much less subtle. She rips off a table leg and swings it around gleefully. She then pries off the dart case and slings it over her arm like a makeshift shield. I'll adjust my AC in my sig

Sense Motive vs Mog: 1d20 ⇒ 13

Hmm, good advice, Moggy! Reta is the best and loudest toadsinger of all the Licktoads! Watch!

Reta warbles a hideous tune, scratching out a cacophonous melody that, she believes, brings the biggest toads to the surface.

Poog discretely snatches a table leg to use as a club. Poog get vengeance, heh heh heh.

Once arrived at the swamp, Poog gleefully listens to Mogmurch, and then ignores his advice completely. Taking pieces of his half-eaten banana, he attempts to lure a frog into view, all the while imitating the sound of what he think a lady frog might sound like.

GM, I just realized the Poog had a bonus on the blistering words contest that I had not factored in (+2 to those checks). It changes one of the checks to a success. What would you like to do?

"POOG IS MIGHTY LICKTOAD!!! he cries out, brandishing his newfound frog.

Everyone now has a frog but Moggy. Moggy is now sulking in the nasty swamp.

banish Poog to the Birdcruncher Tribe :) Nah. Go ahead and get the badge also :)

Three of the four goblins hold their toads in the air in delight as Mogmurch kicks at teh swamp water. As he does his foot slams into something metal causing him to yelp in pain and distress. A small trickle of blood runs down his foot. Surely it will get infected like the best of them. Perhaps Mogmurch will get lucky enough to have it amputated later.

Digging furiously in the mud Mogmurch finds a dogslicer! Digging a small bit further he finds two pickled corpses in teh waters below. This must have been former goblin heroes Hefty Smurget and Never-Trims-Her-Toenails Grom. Digging them up Mogmurch finds:

  • a second dogslicer
  • javelin
  • grappling hook
  • unholy symbol of Zargonel
  • Wooden Spoons (2)
  • Dead Moles (2)
  • Jar of pickled Fishheads

You can continue to try for a toad as much as you want MOgmurch, or until you want to give up.

Mog shows the others all the neat trinkets he found. Moggy kept a dogslicer for his very own and takes a dead mole for dinner. He turned to the others.

"Moggy not good frog chaser. But Moggy am good at finding. Will trade all this good stuff for one measly frog. Alive frog, of course. Any takers?"

Chuffy reaches into the mud and pulls out a toad easily.

"Me trade you for that stuff, yes?" He holds out the toad enticingly, but with a firm grip on it.

Moggy nods. "Take the stuff and give Moggy the frog!". He conducts the exchange.
