Nichelle

Spoiler:

As you enter the keep, it looks more like a butcher house as there are soldiers and kobolds alike thorn, cut, maimed and butchered. Floors, walls and some bits of the ceiling are stained with blood from the fight, and the smell of guts, feces and urine mixed with blood fills the air, as you are careful not to step on the bodies since it is hard not to step in blood. You still get a stronger chill as you can feel it in your bones that something is not right or natural about the place.

GM:
Looking about the immediate area, Nichelle is careful not to step on anything or knock anything over that would make noise, while trying to identify what had caused the scene she was now seeing. The unnatural chill set her on edge, and made her more nervous, but she would carry out this request of her master, knowing that she would be suffering from nightmares for a while after seeing this. What could have done this?

Silent, she crept further into the keep, poised to flee at the first sign of something that she could report. This many bodies on the floor without it being the sight of a battle unnerved her. Still she continued.

With Akela's blessing Lindynt takes the glaive in hand and tests it's weight and distribution with a few practice swings and thrusts. Feeling Alaire's gaze burning into him, Lindynt tells him coolly: "I take no pleasure in robbing the arms of worthy enemies but times of crises call for undesirable actions. This weapon is far more lethal than my lance and if this is indeed the work of the fiend we matched three nights ago, we will need to pool all available resources; regardless of repute or unnecessary honor."

"Reinholdt. If you would, gather your men to join us. We will need all the assistance we can afford." He edges towards the door and slides his helmet back over his face. "We give the girl one more minute before following her in. Know that this will be the only respite we'll be granted. Now prepare yourselves for Hell."

You notice that the Glaive-Guisarme is of great quality and has a bit more of a punch and somehow like it guides your strike to be more accurate, even if it's just barely something that you notice (+1 effect)
The flaming effect has a command word so you must figure it out ^^, which a probably a spellcraft skill roll would be good enough. DC 15 to figure the word

You begin to hear a whimpering as the hallway leads to a large room that is a kitchen empty just filled with regular kitchen things, there are 3 doors one to your immediate left and to more across the room on each corner respectively. There are some more signs of battle here but really nothing surprising or gruesome as the hallway that led you to this room.

I'll be in Akela's debt if he decides to share that with me. He rolled a 19 a few posts back.

He does, I was just searching for an appropriate DC to figuring out. You do know it if he tells you, but that DC is in case someone else wants to try it

Reinholdt turns around to look at his soldiers Men! I expected more than just 5 soldiers when you said reinforcements were coming as he stares at the poor soldier but knowing full well this was as good as it was actually going to get Why have you brought only 4 riders with yourself?

Soldier kneels to his lord M'lord some towers have fallen, there are reports of orcs and goblins attacking, werewolves and kobolds, but the scariest ones are the gigas that are on the move. The captain of the tower lend me this men since the rest were busy in thee aftermath of a minotaur assault. He says he has heard only word from one other tower to the west that reported the orcs and goblins the rest are silent M'lord.

By Faia's grace... as Reinholdt face becomes pale Are you telling me the Gigas march to war, that... is that true I must have proof of this... as he grabs his face to hide the fear and gloom that has taken hold of him I can take fighting with kobolds, orcs, goblins or werewolves, but minotaurs and gigas are night impossible odds for us to face... As he turns around looking at everyone and asking at all but at the same time no one Has our time come... what is this madness...

Human Blue Mage 4

There is more to that weapon than steel Akela continues after some deliberation. Reaching up to grasp the haft of the weapon, he calls out. Funkeln! and the blade ignites in flames.

As he releases his grip, the flames flicker and fade.

Seeing as he as no pack of his own, Akela picks up Nichelle's pack to save leaving it behind.

GM:
Wary, but having seen nothing yet to dissuade her advancement, Nichelle crept on, rather suspicious of the whimpering that she was hearing. In this keep of the dead, such a sound was of dubious origin, given the circumstances... Of course, she could just be overly paranoid of such things, but it is highly unlikely to her that the sound could be a good thing.

Nonetheless, she did not have enough information to report, so she continued, remaining quiet, while trying to identify the sound, and then the source of what she was hearing. She would have thought that any animals would have fled the scene of a battle-- or slaughter.

Spoiler:

The sound comes from the door next to you, once you focus enough to try to figure were the sound is coming from

GM:
Nodding to herself, Nichelle retreated back towards the entryway to meet the group and report what she had found, not wanting to overreach in her scouting. As they progressed, she would scout farther, though it was very likely that the noise that they would be making upon entry would be enough to alert the closest of survivors... Then they would see.

Quietly, she whispered a prayer for those fallen, and for themselves, then turned to return to the group.

If able to reach the party without any delays: "Butchery and savagery greater than any that I have ever seen awaits us.. There are bodies everywhere along the main rooms of the keep, though there may be some survivors."

We will see this to the end friend as Reinholdt nods to the kobold I need you to guard the outside of the keep, while you 5 go to the prison cells and see what is left of our people and theirs turning to look at Lindynt You speak true words my friend, let me guide you to my rightful throne, or whatever is left of it.

O... great... thanks... lol!

"Yes, my lord. There would be no greater honor to see the taint purged with each step towards it's source. Just as we have once before, we will see this deed through together. This is your keep, so who better than you would know it's defenses? If you were to be attacked at your own throne, how would you ambush your enemies?"

Human Blue Mage 4

If we were to retreat, and return with fresh spells, what advantages would we be giving up?

"We would be giving the enemy the same amount of time to plan and execute any number of defenses maneuvers in our absence. It would be best to press on while the number of foot-soldiers is diminished and the adrenalin is still coursing in our veins. To retreat now would spell failure the next time we breached these walls and I will not allow that to happen."

It will give plenty of time to recover, call reinforcements and make neigh impossible to do what we are doing right now, let us go in already and deal with this Crimson bastard as Reinholdt furious scowl can be seen on his face.

You get a strong chill and can feel it in your bones that something is not right or natural about the place.

The kitchen seems pretty normal except for some whimpering that is coming from the door to your left in the kitchen.

You are all inside the kitchen, I assumed you left Sylvie outside but correct me if I'm wrong and in what place is Silvie (each square is 5ft so silvie takes up 2

As much as I would love to get a mounted charge on whatever we're about to face, I can't imagine dragging my chocobo into a castle's kitchen with me. Curse you suspended disbelief!

Lindynt looks around the scene with a disgusted grimace hiding beneath his full-faced helmet. Taking 20 on Perception for a total of 22

He checks to ensure that Vance has his pistol loaded, cocked and pointed at the door before he barks out, "Funkeln!" to set his glaive ablaze and drop to a readied stance with the blade pointed at the door. In a stern voice he begins, "Whoever is behind that door make yourself known or we will be forced to move to extreme measures. I need you to open the door slowly and keep your hands where I can see them. You have until the count of five. One... Two.."

Reinholdt by all means he is the Lord of this lands and there are no real formal titles, but Lord should suffice since his lands aren't great enough to warrant him important but not bad enough to be ignored in court.

"They're safe where they are. Tell them to stay put and keep quiet. They don't need to see this."

Nichelle had suspected, but did not want to confirm it without some backup, so now she went towards the door and knocked before slowly starting to pull it open. "You are not going to die if we have anything to say about it. We need to get you out of here, come on.." She was thinking about where she could relocate these children to without them having to see the carnage that was the main hall and the entryway.

Well, perhaps there was an empty room that was safer.. She at least had to see if they were injured.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

There is no answer coming from the door until some moments pass and a trembling child voices That's what the other said, and now me mom and da' are dead as you can hear them sob Me da' is to heavy and he is dead against the door As a good father he held the door shut to save his children until his last breath escaped him and perished.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Without dropping his attack stance Lindynt whispers to his associate, Nichelle, do what you can to open the door but do not drop your guard. Whatever is responsible for this carnage is still lurking in the shadows surrounding us. We cannot afford to be taken by surprise."

Returning to his previous tone he speaks again to the children behind the door. "Back up and prepare yourselves. We're coming in to collect you and move you to safety. There is no need for you to be this close to danger."

Smell of ozone and putrid smells begin to poor into the room as the voices become more clear and the strange heavy steps accompanied of the *clanking* sound of armor.

Leave the children there for now, let us deal with some more pressing matters, they are safer in there then we are out here right now as Reinholdt pulls his sword out and mutters some word and his sword is engulfed by flames.

A fight in a kitchen was not the best of places that Nichelle would have preferred, but that did not mean it could not be useful, she supposed. Casting about, she looked for any oil that she could find, determined that this fight would not devolve into close range if she could help it. Uncertain footing did a lot for the certainty of their opponents.

"Thank you." Vance spat, annoyed that so much time had been wasted before someone else came to the same conclusion he'd reached as soon as they had found the children.

Dark Archive

GM W.R. Monger

Nichelle last chance to roll to find the oil or get ready for combat, that goes for all of you that desire to make some sort of action

Reinholdt whispers They are coming from the tower that has the entry way to the prison cells in the basement. as he indicates the door next to the ovens.

GM W.R. Monger

Nichelle you do find a container with animal oil in it in one of the shelves.

Thinking rapidly, she looked to the group, and gave a glance to Alaire, knowing things were going to get difficult in this kitchen in a few moments. Here was hoping that the oil was warm enough to spread, it would buy them a few minutes, at least. She moved to make sure she was not in line of sight of the door, and waited.

Just found the map. I didn't realize there were two doors.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

"Each step we take brings us closer to the founders of this massacre. If we do not purge the walls of this keep who knows how far it's influence will spread. Prepare yourselves for yet another trial for the end is nearly in sight." Lindynt then moves into a position to make the most from his glaive's reach and awaits the emergence of whatever is plotting behind the door.

Move to G14. Lion's Call: +1 to attack (lasts for 3 rounds. I'm not sure how long between this action and combat will be so Deiros can decide when it goes away)

If there's time: Readied action to attack any enemy that comes into range.

The footsteps are now right by the door as it opens up and you can see 2 figures with a dragon like head but its bone... it is actually an undead with a blue-green glowing eyes, and one of them wields its sword as he move towards you. The smell of ozone is heavy in the air, as you can see the crackling of dark lightnings in their blades. The other Wraith walks away leaving you with one.

Alaire They are Wraith! careful not to be hit by their weapons or hands with alarm in his voice They will weaken you

Just carry over that readied attack. I get an AoO if it comes at me (since it probably will) at E14 due to my weapon's reach.

"Good to know, Alaire. Let's dispatch this beast and continue on to find the usurper."

With the others in place and their enemy named, Nichelle rose, hefting the crock of oil, and took three steps in preparation to hurl it. While this was not burning oil-- as she wished it may have been-- she did not target an individual, as she would have. Instead, her target was the ground at their feet. Undead, she disliked. 'At least these aren't the rotting-corpse types', she thought to herself. 'What I've seen already was bad enough..'
