Although the building is out in the open and in view of the public there are not many people nearby as it seems everyone gives this building a wide berth. Xanxan and Dl'lara find it easy to move up to the building. As they approach an overwhelming stench permeates the air from the building. Years of decaying fishguts and offal have created an almost visible miasma emanating from the doorway.

Peeking through the doorway you are able to see 2 large hulking figures on either side of the room with two doors on the opposite wall. This close the stench is even worse than expected.

Need fort save DC 15 of sickened from the stench as you get within 10 feet of the doorway.

FIgure we got a lay of the room, so we can either move in or fall back I'm for moving in and maybe ambushing the guys out on a shakedown patrol when they get back.

I'm totally off on what's happening vs what I thought was happening. Shutting down so you guys can make a decision.


I think since you mentioned that you are circling around the building that you are back with the group and informing them of what you saw. Once they heard the layout and the thugs inside you can now discuss options for assault vs infiltration.


I was expecting Duardlara to scout the area before we move in, but I could go with the bluffing plan. Though that is not Helgash's specialty ;)

Apparently D'lara has circled the building and saw nothing except a glance in the open front door and two hulking figures. She will reports same to the others.

"I cannot simply attack them Beck, no matter what the appearances may be" - Helgash smiles as if it was obvious, then moves to the door and opens it, entering the room - "Well met friends" - his voice sounds confident - "We come with a pocket full of gold, and looking for information - having been told this is the place to find the most knowledgeable regarding what we look for, here we are" - he stands there - "Can we talk?"

Remember that any who come within 10ft of the doorway must make a fort save or sickened while in its proximity.

The two large figures stand up as you enter the building. Their size makes it almost impossible to move around them as they take up over half of the width of the room between them. They initially grab and brandish their ogre hooks. The sight of the hooks make the realization that you don't want to see these ogres truly use them. Helgash continues to talk and slowly the ogres relax as certain words are registered. Namely gold. How much you paying and what information you want?

Helgash feels the pungent smell, but manages to ignore it - "How much, you ask..." - he ponders - "Twenty and five gold to each, if you tell us where to find the one we seek. His name is Ringerr" - the tiefling speaks calmly, looking at both of the massive creatures in front of him.


The ogre sniffs his nose in derision. Throw the money on the table. 50 gold pieces for the information you seek sounds fair.

Only after the money pouch is tossed on the table does the ogre continue on. He doesn't even look at the bag or worry about counting it at this time. The man your looking for is under arrest for disturbing the peace. Now I suggest you leave before you start disturbing the peace and we have to lock you up as well.

Glancing to one of the back rooms the ogre shakes his head emphatically. No, it is not possible to book a visit with him. He is being held for questioning. When the truth comes out and his punishment served then you can see him. He may not be in any state though to accept visitors. the ogre clearly finds this amusing and chuckles at the thought of it.

From her vantage point outside the room, Venja casts glitterdust (centered at the junctions of DE and 45, which should just catch both ogres and miss all characters.)

Beck takes a moment to enchant his club, then snaps and urges Sheelah up to F:6 to attack.

Helgash does not hesitate - in spite of his diplomatic approach, he cares not for ogres, and even less for the mockery that uses them as thugs and enforcers.

Duardlara tries to ignore her queasy stomach and rolls into the room behind the big cat. Realizing that both of the fat ones have been blinded somehow, she continues her roll to get past, drawing her rapier as she does so.

Oh for the sake of a bard...

Sheelah is motioned forward and lunges at the ogre but her teeth catch on the ogres think skin and she fails to penetrate and do any damage. The ogre feels her presence though and grunts in acknowledgement even if he can't see her. Helgash likewise tries to get in on the action but his bardiche just bounces off the hide armor causing a great rent in the armor but not on the tissue behind it. Duardlara tumbles her way around the beasts even going so far as to tumble through their location to get on the back side of them. The entire process was too much for her in her weakened state as she stifles a bit of vomit that threatened to come up. the gag reflex being to much as she misses her swing with the rapier.

The first ogre felt the teeth from Sheelah and tries to bring his hook down on her location. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 for 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 3) + 10 = 19 miss chance1-50 1d100 ⇒ 28

Neither ogre is able to do much as they both not only miss their targets but don't even target the correct area their swings are off so much.

Even though the ogres can't hit the broad side of a barn the wild swings do a great job of stirring the air and getting rid of the blinking dust in their eyes. Roaring with frustration at seeing the party again the noise alerts the occupant in the back room. The door opens to reveal a male human in studded leather wielding rapier and dagger in hand. A lt crossbow is slung on his back. Taking stock of the situation he motions with his dagger as if he is going to throw it at Lara.

Beck the ogre hide was fluff rather than any DR. She missed the flat-footed AC by 1 is all. Same with Helgash, missed it by 1.

Sheelah rears back and brings both claws and her fangs down on the ogre but the ogre just bats Sheelah away causing her to roll away. Thus with an opening Beck moves in to see what he can do with his magical club. Alas, Beck has no more luck than Sheelah and is now before an very angry and irate ogre.

Jetro's bow twangs again but his great aim from the alst shot was not to be repeated as the arrow this timeskips off of the ogre hook and buries itself in the rafters of the building.

Venja steps up and feels the fumes from the shack turn her stomach. Using what was already roiling she vomits up into the shack. The vomit was an unearthly concoction as it started to move forward away from her as thousands of miniature spiders could be seen crawling forward to harass the ogre and biting him viciously.

Helgash takes stock of the situation from the corner of his eye, noticing the man coming into the room, twirling the dagger - he does not focus him, but knows he will get the chance to attack if he tries to fling the dagger at anyone.

Since weapon is ranged, he should also be entitled an AoO if he tries to move past them or throw that dagger.

His attention is focused on the massive ogres - "You still have a chance to surrender brutes - we will accept that you simply knew no better, and your feeble intellect was swayed into this perfidious course of action" - he challenges them, swinging hard.

Do we need to save every round? If so:

Frustrated at her terrible luck and seeing the danger, Duardlara attempts to retreat to G8.

Duarlara is able to jump out of the way enough to avoid any blows coming her way and makes it to the safety of the outside where she can breathe a bit easier but is still sickened from the smell.

The ogres turn and target Beck and Helgash as they are now in front. The 1 ogre steps to the north to allow the dagger and rapier wielding man out fo the door way to engage with Beck as well.

Good thing there is a life link paladin next to you that can heal and get rid of bleed all at once.

Ouch, Beck is down but not dead and good guys up.

EDIT: Change of action Duardlara sheathes her rapier once she's outside. She leans into the doorway and casts a spell, sending a glowing missile into the room to strike the man with the rapier.

Still waiting on Helgash and Sheelah to go. Also I made a mistake the first round of combat. Being blind grants attackers a +2 to hit as well as making the target flat-footed. As such both Helgash and Beck hit the first round. The ogre is still standing but is not looking that good anymore. If any want to redirect their attacks let me know for this past round. This is primarily for Jetro and Duarlara's benefit as the rest either missed or targeted both ogres already anyways.
