Shattertooth |
I am called Shattertooth. We are to survive. If you have no desire to do even that, go dive back in the ocean.
Apparently this hobgoblin is short on subtlety. And pity.
Narissth |
Unsure what to do next, Narissth begins to carefully examine the tree. While he is no expert on magic, things of nature he has some experience with.
Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 <-- he will also look to see if any part of the tree might be able to be used as reagents for any alchemical mixtures
Castaway Devon |
Zika |
Pleased with herself for having figured out the puzzle, Zika strolls over to the pedestal and collects her belongings, getting dressed with seeming disregard for modesty. She pays no attention as the hobgoblin passes out briefly, nor as Squeeze is thrown aside like a ragdoll.
It isn't until the Ratfolk speaks again that she pays attention. She turns from where she was dressing. "No magicks. No sword." She calls woefully. Despite having put on clothes, it's the absence of her things that make her feel most naked, and she plops down into the sand. "Done for. Be eatens by dark."
Curious to know what's likely to kill her, Zika begins to look around the beach, eyeing the treeline suspiciously.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
I know we're only on the beach, but is there anything to suggest what kind of wildlife lives here? Tracks or bones or anything like that?
Narissth |
While examining the tree, Narissth opens his package to see what it might contain. He also, carefully, attempts to harvest any parts of the tree that might be of use, although he does this very carefully considering that the tree has already tossed one goblin half way down the beach.
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 <-- if necessary
Craft(Alchemy): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 <-- to gather the items alchemical components, seems like the right skill
Castaway Devon |
Narissth find within his package a leather roll case with a brass finished snap and an empty water skin. The case is empty save for a single tool made of metal that features an angled blade at one end and a sort of bent edge that looks like it is for scraping or levering on the other. The tool is extremely light but feels very durable. It is about the size of a pencil so the blade is smaller than a hobby knife/X-acto knife. I'll try to get you a picture soon if I can, its based on an old tool I found in my hobby model days and it has captured my imagination ever since...
Zika tears open her package and finds a tightly rolled piece of blue canvas cloth (which unfolds to a square that is 3'x3' the edges are finished if such a details matters to you), a small tin canister with a lid (about 5 inches round) and within the canister a small, plain, bronze finished key.
After opening their packages Narissth attempts to harvest some components from the tree and is thrown 30' back into the sand much like Squeeze Bits was a few minutes before. Like the goblin, the ratfolk is left with the wind knocked out of him. To the tune of 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6) = 13 nonlethal damage
Squeeze Bits |
Squeeze mocked Shattertooth's hobgobliness for some moments. He was still a little dizzy from before, and clearly having a little bit too much fun with the sand. Finally, he walks bobble heading following the line of the sand. He was curious, and quickly getting tired of being careful. Which is obviously very unhealthy to him...
Shattertooth |
Shattertooth glares at the goblin. If it came down to it, that one was getting eaten first...
Zika |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Zika picks up the key and turns it over in her hand, trying to remember if she has seen it before or recognises it as being for anything. Not coming up with a reasonable answer, she frowns and bites down on the key.
Letting out a yelp, she looks at Squeeze walking away. "Where go?" she calls out.
Narissth |
Knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Looking at the rather strange tool, Narissth taps it a few times and tests to see if he can bend it. After a few seconds he realizes that this is no ordinary tool, but is practically indestructible adamantine.
After pocketing the took, and then getting blown half way across the beach, he suddenly realizes that the goblins are wandering off. Not wanting to be left behind, even if the goblins so far seem uncultured and, well, goblin like, he follows behind the goblins to see what other mischief they are able to get into.
Shattertooth |
Shattertooth falls in beside the rat-man. At least not everyone else here was a goblin. Your people have a reputation for being resourceful. Is it true? he asks without preamble.
Shattertooth |
I am a trapper, engineer, and scout. Usually my traps are designed for... Larger prey, but I think I can adapt then to catch smaller animals.
What are your skills?
Narissth |
Narissth looks at his small hands.
I also have experience with traps, although mostly avoiding them. Living beneath Korvosa, I became quite skilled at remaining unseen and getting out of tight spaces.
He then looks about and at the tree line:
I have some talent with alchemy, although without the right equipment and materials, it will be difficult to make much on this island.
Shattertooth |
Shattertooth nods. He knows the trouble.
Do not fear. The world and I have... an understanding. We will find what we need when we need it.
Squeeze Bits |
Squeeze turns his head to Zika.
Captain Squeeze Bits is legendary adventurer. Squeeze going to find way back home. And bugs to eat, Squeeze hungry! Someone stole Squeeze's plunder.
He hears the Ratfolk and Hobgoblin speaking, and slowly pulls his head sideways to listen to their conversation, curious.
Shattertooth |
Shattertooth notices the goblin's had and speaks up, I see you listening, runt. What do they call you?
Castaway Devon |
The group starts moving in response to Squeeze Bits decision to trek off. The goblin notices nothing of interest and sees nothing in the land around him of import but does get Zika in tow with Shattertooth and Narissth a few steps behind.
Narissth |
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Narissth looks over to Shattertooth:
You think the goblin has any clue where he is going? Or are we just following to our doom?
Shattertooth |
Probably the latter. That's why the goblins are going first.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Squeeze Bits |
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
I can't roll to save my life! Lol
Squeeze Bits is the name. Legendary adventurer! Conqueror of the east cities.
He smiles, proud of his invented accomplishments.
Squeeze Bits |
Squeeze smiles very proud of himself at the top of his incredible intelligence.
Many! Many cities! Killed dogs and horses. Bad creatures. But no rat cities. Squeeze likes the rats. Eat the small ones, but big ones are frieeeeends!
While speaking, he got distracted and decided to chew some sand.
Narissth |
Narissth looks over, and slightly down, at Zika.
I'm from Korvosa in the great northern nation of Varisa. I was transporting some gems south to Sargava when something happened. Then, I don't know what happened, but I awoke with you on the beach.
Shattertooth |
I am from the cost south of Absolom. My tribe was nomadic, but tended to stay near the coasts and forests of that region.
Squeeze Bits |
Hmm gems. Squeeze likes shiny gems! They buy lots of food. Some are even good to eat.
He continues chewing the sand, but he doesn't stop walking. He has no clue of what's happening around him... Very oblivious.
Castaway Devon |
Glom-Glom awakens face first in white, smooth sand. Near him a strange tree grows on its side. The weather is warm, bright and, at least by many standards, altogether pleasant.
Glom-Glom is naked and has none of his items. A crow circles lazily overhead...
Narissth |
Ah, was wondering about the two scores.
Apparently not surprised enough by the sudden arrival of yet another goblin, Narissth suddenly jumps and points toward the east.
That sand is moving. Something is there.
Shattertooth |
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Shattertooth curses under his breath again. Oh well. Another minion. He just had to figure out how to control chaos incarnate...
Shattertooth |
He looks closer when Narissth speaks up, but can't quite make it out.
Hostile?
Glom-Glom |
Glom-Glom's beady eyes flicker open, and ears twitch at the sound of voices.
The wiry creature stays still whilst taking in what he can from senses and surroundings...
Who that? Where me? What that? It tree!
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
... but tell him little of where he is and who these voices are...
Grrrr. Wood make paper. Paper bad. Tree bad.
Wait. Tree wood. Wood float. Float good. Boat float!
WAIT! Glom-Glom naked!? Where clothes? Where stuff!? Where hat!!!!!! WHERE HAT!!!!!!!
Pulling himself up Glom-Glom stretches on all fours, gnashes his razor chop in frustration before furtively pads toward the tree, balefully gazing at the other two goblins, hob and rat creature he has spotted thus far.
"Pah. You lot play with sand. Glom-Glom claim's tree!"
The feral goblin cocks his leg on the tree and proceeds to mark it with a stream of pee.

Shattertooth grins and waites expectantly to see the new Goblin get his tenders blown off by the tree.
Narissth |

Narissth is about to warn the goblin of the rather overly aggressive nature of the tree, but decides that the goblin will not listen and that learning from his own mistake is probably the best option. Nonetheless, the ratfolk winces inwardly expecting the goblin, and his goblin-parts to be in different places before long.
