Fabes DM |

Hi all, welcome to the discussion thread for Twisted Night, a sort of continuation of my previous Treasure Hunt game, in that it is set in the same world.
Please create Level 3 characters using either the standard array or point buy. You have one Level 4 magic item, one Level 3 magic item and one Level 2 magic item, as well as 520 gp to spent on rituals, magic items and equipment as you wish.
The world is vaguely Celtic in set-up (please see the Treasure Hunt thread and its associated discussion thread for an idea of the style). The deities are those of the Player's Handbook with the following name changes:
Avandra - Brigit or Brigid
Bahamut - Breasal
Corellon - Lugh
Erathis - Scatha
Ioun - Oghma (a god!)
Kord - Nuada Silver-Hand
Melora - Danu aka Earthmother
Moradin - Govannon
Pelor - Grainne (a goddess!)
The Raven Queen - no change
Sehanine - Blodeuwedd

Excellent!
Thrugnipp -- possibly Ynyr / leader
Rosey -- possibly Healaugh / leader
Xdahnx -- possibly Greylan / controller
Tieren -- possibly Gobi / defender
P1NBACK -- possibly archer / striker (ranged)Pat -- willing to fill in roles, so many different characters to play! Though looking forward to Invoker coming out in Dragon tomorrow as a possibility for Hetta (controller). But I've also built a scourge-wielding tempest fighter focusing on mobility if we need another defender.
Confirmations? I'm off to look at the other threads Fabes mentioned before settling, but I'm willing to fill in holes, as I said.

Rev Rosey |

Hmm. A problem is emerging. Healaugh's base stats suggest rogue very strongly, which isn't ideal as we really don't need another striker.
Thus: S 10, D 16, Co 12, I 14, W 8, Ch 13
I'm continuing to fiddle around, but the lack of Wisdom means he can't take the obvious ranged route and turn into a Ranger and the lack of strength makes him a dubious proposition as a melee fighter. Swordmage perhaps if he takes the feat that lets him use his Int bonus rather than his Str for attack/damage rolls?
Suggestions welcome.

Ah, yes, sorry, I hadn't gotten to my particular house rules aka 'pet peeves':
The Common language is replaced with Korrinish. Giant is also known as Fhoi Myore.
No double weapons - I hate them with the passion of a thousand suns. It's one of the few things I get geek rage, "hat of d02 know no limit" over. The exception is the humble quarterstaff.
The common races of the islands are humans, halflings, dwarves, and the occasional half-elf. Any other races are quite rare and unusual so I'd limit them to one in the party. i.e. 1 eladrin, 1 dragonborn etc.
Hopefully my little niggles are not too draconian!

No problem -- the original version wasn't a double weapon anyway. Just seemed like fun with a tempest fighter. I believe I had the rest correct.

Definite
Rosey -- Healaugh / leader
Xdahnx -- Greylan / controller
Pat - Darvyl / defender
Thrugnipp -- possibly Ynyr / leader
Unknown
Tieren -- possibly Gobi / defender (or will Gobi be in Savage Blight now?)
P1NBACK -- possibly archer / striker (ranged) (anyone seen him/her/it around?) :D
Alternate
Scribbling Rambler -- unknown (if Tieren is going for Savage Blight, you're in)
I have also had interest from someone else.

FabesMinis |

Hmm, ok, how about this:
Scribbling Rambler - you're in - sounds good. If you're familiar with it at all, the adventure takes place on my version of the Moonshae Islands from Forgotten Realms. A Pictish type chap would be fun. The Korrin Archipelago can be a bit rough and ready.
Elor - you're also in as the party dragonborn. You'll be looked at a bit askance by the common folk but you can handle that, I'm sure. :D
The adventure will take on the more southerly, civilised island of Gwynneth. I'm still thinking about languages folks, specifically bonus ones. I'll let you know soon but don't let it delay character creation.

FabesMinis |

It seems to me that you can use it in melee. I'll have another look.
Definite
Rosey -- Healaugh / leader
Xdahnx -- Greylan / controller
Pat - Darvyl / defender
Thrugnipp -- possibly Ynyr / leader
Scribbling Rambler -- Nechtan / striker
Elor -- Ddraig Goch / defender (great name!)
Unknown
Tieren -- not as Gobi probably
P1NBACK -- possibly archer / striker (ranged) (anyone seen him/her/it around?) :D

FabesMinis |

5 Healing potions!?
I hope you brought enough for everybody, young man. :D
Rambler - between us, Rosey, Thrugnipp and I have all the books so they are all fine. Forgotten Realms, you might want to check with me about if you want something from there.

Thrugnipp |

Intriguing! My experience shows the opposite. We'll see how it pans out.
Do I detect a little bit of cynicism here?
After 9 hours of fighting with .NET framework installations, I have finally managed to install the 4e character builder and so Ynyr the Artificer can start to be.

FabesMinis |

Well, if someone wasn't "I am ur base, Scorching Bursting ur minions", I'd be able to lay the smack down a lot more on you. Harrumph.
Although, I have killed 2 PCs in Keep on the Shadowfell... I can now picture Greylan sighing, and opening up his medicine bag with a great show of magnamity.

Thrugnipp |

I'm confused.
Can someone please explain to me what the advantage is of being an alchemist?
The book says:
Benefit: You can make alchemical items of your level or lower. You must have the correct formula and an appropriate skill.
If I can buy Alchemist's acid for 20gp in a shop, but, if I want to make it myself, I have to pay 70gp for the formula and then STILL pay 20gp for the alchemist's acid, I see no advantage. Unless, of course, I run out of the stuff during an adventure and happen to come across a chest which happens to have the ingredients I need.
I feel sure, that if I make the stuff myself, it should be significantly cheaper than buying it on the open market.

FabesMinis |

Um, I suppose you could always sell it for 4gp? Dunno, mate.
It probably falls on me as the DM to ensure that you will not run into alchemist marts in every town, but that you can find the ingredients you need from Ol' Meg the witch down the duck pond... or something.
And at the end of the day, being a mad pseudo-scientist is sort of fun.

Thrugnipp |

As far as Ynyr's dagger is concerned, I've assumed that he tinkered with it a bit and turned his +2 dagger of giant slaying into a +1 vengeful dagger. This is a level 5 item so I have taken up the level 4 item slot and paid the difference between level 4 and level 5 (i.e. 160GP). Is that acceptable?
According to the Character Builder from WotC, it says that if you are starting at a level higher than level 1, you can take the three magical items for free and also any non-magical adventuring gear that you like before having to start paying for things. The 560gp you get is for extra magical items (or for saving). Id this the way you are doing this?
