Brelin's attack hits, but barely tickles the ghoul. It instinctively lashes out at Wabbit, but the nimble Halfling dodges every strike. The sound of more screaming ghouls is heard down the cavern to the Northwest.
The bat does not relent, and squeezes its way into the tunnel to grab hold of Wilhim with its vampire-like fangs. Wilhim has no chance this time, and gets held firmly.
The poison worsens, and Furnok now stiffens up.

DM TreasureFox |
Works for me. 12 damage instead of 8.
Wilhim pours an entire flask of holy water into the undead bat, and the sound of searing flesh is accompanied by steam coming out of the bat's mouth and holes in its rotten skin. Aggah stabs as hard as her little goblin frame lets her, but she misses and hits the rock wall.
Cleo patches up Furnok while he goes to retrieve his hammer. Meanwhile Brelin prepares to cast Disrupt Undead on the first ghoul to show up.
Three ghouls throw themselves at Wabbit, literally jumping overtop of each other to get through. The first one gets a terrible slashing across the throat by Wabbit. All three of them are unable to get past him, and are completely bottlenecked.
The undead bat starts biting down on Wilhim, dealing an incredible amount of harm and injecting Wilhim with disease and poison. Fortunately, it doesn't look like anything has taken hold. Wilhim takes 19 damage.

Well, this could be very good, or very bad.
Wilhim cries out in pain once more, the bite being far worse than the bruising force it previously used. He reaches down for a another flask of holy water and instead comes up with a vial. Looking at the beast he pops the cork and chugs it down and begins growing.
So, I figure that it's teeth would inhibit my attempts to enlarge person and this will give me a bonus and a possibility of breaking out.
DM TreasureFox |
As Wilhim grows, the bat's mouth gets stretched out further and further. The good news is that this will prevent Wilhim from getting swallowed. The bad news is that the bat still has Wilhim's torso in its mouth.
This bat is large sized, so growing to medium won't bust you out. Sorry.
Brelin's turn.

While the mouser is within her foe’s space, the foe takes a –4 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks not made against the mouser, and all of the mouser’s allies that are adjacent to both the foe and the mouser are considered to be flanking the foe. The mouser is considered to be flanking the foe whose space she is within if she is adjacent to an ally who is also adjacent to the foe. The mouser can move within her foe’s space and leave the foe’s space unhindered and without provoking attacks of opportunity, but if the foe attempts to move to a position where the mouser is no longer in its space, the movement provokes an attack of opportunity from the mouser. This deed replaces opportune parry and riposte
Next time an attack misses Wabbit he will activate this

Brelin summons a sphere of rolling fire right in the middle of the ghoul mess. The one in the middle fails to dodge out of the way and starts getting terribly roasted. Rotten flesh and hair singe in a flash, yet the monster feels no pain, and therefor does not screech. The ghoul in the front flails aimlessly at Wabbit, who steps into the creature's personal space to make it even more difficult for it. The other two ghouls flee in opposite directions.
Things are going much worse for Wilhim. The poor Gnome, currently the size of an adult human, is being chomped on by the undead bat. Another terrible bite with the might of undeath hits him right in the jugular, spraying blood everywhere. He immediately loses consciousness, and may very soon lose his life.
Wilhim takes 19 damage, putting him at -9. He is still grappled.

Furnok, with Wabbit's help, smashes his hammer into the ghoul's brittle skull. Brelin runs over and expertly disrupts the necromantic energies within the bat. That being said, there's still plenty to go.

Stabilization checks have a penalty equal to the negative hit points.
Wilhim fails to stabilize, but Cleo patches him up to the point where he is just barely conscious. Wabbit races over to the bat, but can't get a charge in. Furthermore, people are starting to crowd around in the narrow passageway, making an awkward line to the bat.
The bat opens its mouth to present the now conscious Wilhim with its giant fangs, ready for the death blow. As it does so, Wilhim ever so neatly tumbles out of its grasp! It snarls in a painful high pitch in frustration.
A particularly singed ghoul pokes out from one of the other tunnels near Furnok and Bacon. It decides that pork is on the menu!

Brelin heads back to help Furnok and Bacon. Using her flaming sphere, she rams it into the ghoul, throwing it backwards and setting it on fire. It does not stand back up. However, the last ghoul races out from the tunnel and charges right for Bacon. Furnok starts by bashing in its shoulder, but just before it runs past, Furnok gets a backswing in and jams the backspike right through the back of the ghoul's skull and out its nose.
Wabbit hustles as close as he can to the bat, but he can't get around Wilhim.

Furnok, Bacon, and Brelin move along the tunnel to explore a possible way around. Unfortunately they don't find any tunnels that look to connect, but neither do they find anything hostile.
Wilhim tries to duck under the giant bat to give Wabbit more room to fight. He is sort of successful. He's successful in giving Wabbit more room, but only because the halfling can now stand overtop Wilhim's slumped and bleeding form. Wabbit gets a good poke in there, but it looks like the bat is going to be slowly whittled down. Cleo taps Wilhim with the wand (I figure you'd do that instead of patching up Wabbit), which brings him back to consciousness in a life altering form of whiplash.
Wilhim takes 12 damage, then receives 8. He resists another dose of poison.

Brelin, Furnok, and Bacon race back to the crowded tunnel to see Wilhim rolling in his own blood. As the massive bat tries to bite him, Wabbit seizes the opportunity. He jabs his waveblade into the bat's eye, then leaps onto its head. He wraps his legs around the bat's neck, then proceeds to stab the waveblade as far into the bat's skull as he can. It tries to grab Wabbit with its last moments, but loses motor function and collapses to the side.
Combat over.
This cavern contains a small pile of bodies, most of which lie at the bottom of an opening in the ceiling.
- A pearl ring worth 300gp
- A bladed belt
- A hat of disguise
- A masterwork hand crossbow
- A single dose of Deathblade
- 56gp
The items found in this cavern belong to the once notorious Shaz 'Red Shiv' Bilger, who was known to be a ruthless caravan bandit. To demonstrate that he was just as deadly with his one arm as a normal combatant, he would brutally slay any caravan guard he came across. There's still a reward for him, dead or alive, for 500gp in Magnimar.
The construction of the opening in the ceiling looks to be a well of sorts. This would be a terrible place to build a well, since there's no evidence of a river or stream for fresh water. Furthermore, it's only perhaps 100ft from the coast, which means salt water could possibly have contaminated it. Whoever built this either didn't know what they were doing, or they never meant for the well to actually have been used for its intended function.
One of the bodies here has a piece of sharp stone smashed into its head. By carefully pulling it out, it reveals a broken stone wing, belonging to what would have been a stone angel or something similar. Now soiled and ruined clothes suggest that this man, who was probably in his middle years, was a fairly wealthy man. He does not wear a signet ring, but could still have been a wealthy merchant.
You then remember that there was a bookend of a stone angel in the library. It was broken and laying next to a pool of dried blood.
