Elliomander Ostarian |

"Hold on..." Elliomander says tentatively, "we should at least try once to open it... It's stuck pretty firmly, so this isn't likely to work, but ready yourselves- if it swings open you may be able to surprise anything inside..."
When Cyth and Jason are ready, he charges into the door...
break check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Failing, he scowls at the door for a moment and then adds, "well, if there is something in there it may open the door to attack us... We might want to want a moment before moving on just to make sure nothing is trying to sneak up behind us..."

Jason Fury |

I was going to roll for aid, but we'd fail either way. So...
"Well, with us trying to bash the door in anyone on the other side would have definitely reacted."
Jason puts his ear upon the door and listens intently for clues that there is someone on the other side.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
He shares whatever he finds out to the others.
If it looks like there's nothing else to do here, Jason will follow the others on the other path.

GM Rednal |
Jason isn't able to hear anything through the door - and ultimately, heads down the other path. It's a long route without any doors for a long time, but eventually, the group reaches a crossroads of sorts. To the north is an open archway - to the west, a closed wooden door. According to the map, there are no other entrances to that chamber, so you'll probably want to clear it now if you want to avoid backtracking.

Jason Fury |

Jason follows Cyth and takes a quick look at the door as well.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

GM Rednal |
As Jason reaches out to touch the door, a roaring pillar of flame shoots up, catching him and Cythraul in its blast.
Fire Damage (Cythraul): 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 1) = 13 - Reflex 17 for Half: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Fire Damage (Jason): 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 5, 3) = 16 - Reflex 17 for Half: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Even as the flames die down, the door clicks open, and four small Darkmantles begin screeching as they prepare to attack.
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Initiative (Cythraul): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Initiative (Elliomander): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Initiative (Jason): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Elliomander is up.

Elliomander Ostarian |

i believe Jason takes 0 from that thanks to evasion...
Recognizing that in their current formation it is unlikely that any darkmantles will rush past his allies to him, Elliomander attempts to move past them into the chamber, and a position where any would be attackers would have to brave his glaive's range to reach him. Once there, he utters a curse on the nearest creature and it feels an intense wave of sleepiness wash over it.
move into the room, attempting to position myself so most or all of them will have to provoke an AoO to reach me. then using slumber hex on the closest one (DC 15 Will)

GM Rednal |
Evasion is a wonderful thing. XD
Will DC 15: 1d20 ⇒ 10
One of the darkmantles drifted towards the ground, snoozing, even as the other three dive-bombed Elliomander from above. And considering Reach, I do believe that would provoke. XD Roll 'em up in your next post and we'll retroactively apply them.
Slam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Slam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Slam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Despite their best efforts, none of the creatures seemed able to reach Elliomander - assuming any of them survived to get that close, of course.
The party's up.

Jason Fury |

Holy Sh-!!!
Seeing the flames, Jason manages to lean back from the flames at the last minute but he can still feel the heat on his face. He only feels Elli dash past him before realizing that enemies has shown up.
Th-that was close...
Getting his focus back into the fight, Jason finds the best position to burn down these creatures in turn. From his splayed hand, a blast of fire spews forth towards the darkmantles as Jason casts Burning Hands.
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Fire Dmg: 4d4 ⇒ (3, 1, 2, 4) = 10 (Reflex Save DC19 for half)
I'll leave it to the GM to decide how many are caught since we're not doing the grid.

Elliomander Ostarian |

i was waiting for Cyth to finish up round 1 before I start round 2, but i'm getting ready for bed so, for expedience sake, i'll post now and hope her action wouldn't have any negative impact on what i'm doing... also, i'm not positive but i think i've killed one (with my AoO) and put one to sleep, and Jason hit one or both of the remaining 2 with burning hands?
Realizing that he has no good place to attack from with his long glaive, Elliomander drops it and, shifting away from the darkmantle Cyth just attacked to the side of the other one, draws his warhammer and swings it...
2 handed power attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21, possibly doing: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

GM Rednal |
Elliomander is able to kill one of the creatures before it even gets close to him, and the other two utterly fail to land their blows. More disturbing, however, is the sudden laughter that echoes through the dungeon as Cythraul steps on an oddly-colored tile and vanishes in a sphere of energy. Not dead, probably, but... whisked elsewhere, perhaps?
As for Jason, his attempt to cast defensively isn't enough, and he loses the spell. Elliomander's full attack is enough to slam into another of the creatures, instantly killing it, and that leaves just one Darkmantle behind.
It lashed out at the witch-man-
Slam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
-and utterly failed in its attempt to land a strike on him.

Jason Fury |

Argh!
Spouts of flame weakly spew from his hands, but he was not able to concentrate enough for it to bloom in full. The face of the Darkmantles keep intruding... With a shake of his hand, Jason sidesteps a bit and tries to do a combination strike at one of the creatures.
Flurry 1, Attk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 | Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Flurry 1, Attk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 | Dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Just wow... two 1's on a row.

Elliomander Ostarian |

yikes, that's actually 3 natural 1s in a row going back to GMs turn... I'm scared to roll anything!
Elliomander is actually taken aback by the futile exchange he's just witnessed. Not sure what to make of it, he stays the course; stepping back and into a flanking position, he studies the creature and swings hard with his glaive.
flanking PA: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24, for: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

GM Rednal |
After years of training, countless harrowing experiences, an ascension to greater power, and so on, Jason's expertise is once more put to the test... and he somehow knocks his own limbs aside in the kind of display most people quietly vow to never talk about again.
At least Elliomander managed to kill the creature, and the sleeping one was easily dispatched a moment later, taking down all four of them.
535 XP each.
The side wall twisted a moment later as a woman covered in flames staggered out of nowhere, looking as confused as anyone else about what, precisely, was going on here.
Meanwhile, now that you're free to explore the room, you can see that a group of draconic faces have been carved into the north wall. Someone has scrawled "This paladin is dead" on the east wall... which might have made more sense if there'd been a Paladin anywhere around.

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania lets out a rumbling cry as the wall turned around on her. Looking around seeing them and then the murdered creatures on the ground she pushed against the wall her eyes watching them. The fire along her hair and skin died down until her white hair was a soft white that flickered with flame from time to time.
Her armor was well kept and definitely of good quality. The weapons at her side were not though. Average club, wooden stake?, and a dagger. Her eyes were a slight golden brown color even as the feathers along her back moved showing a prismatic sheen to them. The headpiece, looked like a stylized unicorn horn glimmered against the occasional flicker of flame.
"Woo awww uuu." She gets out. Her words seemed strange and stunted. As if she was speaking through her nose, or without moving her throat right.
Her eyes studied them intently and any movement drew her eye to them.

Jason Fury |

Rubbing the forearm that he somehow managed to hit himself, Jason looks at the fiery new-comer warily. He maintains a stance to fight if necessary...
Another enemy? Fires can signify demons, but somehow it feels like she doesn't mean any harm.
Jason scans the surroundings quickly just in case he missed something, before looking back at her.
Perception (for items or other features in the room): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Do you speak Common stranger?

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania's eyes looked at Jason's lips as he spoke and she made a face at him as if she was offended.
"Yess." Her eyes flicked to Elliomander as she studied his lips and she slowly frowned trying to piece together what he said.
"I ast first." Thinking on it she would make a writing motion. This is what she gets for leaving her chalk back at home. Or her pen and paper.
Reaching up she touched her ears and then covered them. "I canth hear."

Elliomander Ostarian |

Elliomander holds up one finger to the woman, gesturing to wait one moment, then turns to one of the darkmantles on the floor...
Rising a moment later, he turns back to her and offers her the hooked claw from the end of its tentacle, dipped in its blood, and mimes writing on the wall with it.

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania would look at him as he turned his back but she didn't draw weapons or anything. Once he handed her the claw she would motion for him and Jason to move where she could see them as she wrote. Even with the strange medium her script was beautiful.
"Who are you and where am I? Are you friend or foe? I can read lips." Looking at the claw she squeezed it to get a little more out.
"Virdania - Ver-daah-Nee-ah" Pointing to this first part of it and then to herself. Then the second and points to parts of the first. Her mother had told her that was the sound of her name.

Jason Fury |

"Well, with Cyth gone we'll need all the help we can get. I say give her a chance."
Jason relaxes his stance and tells her, with exaggerated mouthing, "OK... Can you fight? This place is crawling with monsters. We need to clear all the rooms on this maaap." He points at a roll of parchment on Elli's belt.

Jason Fury |

Elliomander Ostarian |

"Very well..." the large, pale, dark-haired man replies relaxing his stance and holding his polearm in his left hand. "Its Virdania" he says to Jason, pointing to where it is written on the wall. Then he very gently takes the claw back from her, dips it in more blood, and writes a letter 'L' and a letter 'J' on the wall...
Pointing at the 'L' he mouths an exaggerated "Ell" and points to himself. Then he points at the 'J', mouths an exaggerated "Jay", and points at Jason. Finally, he scribbles 'be careful, this place is dangerous' and turns to inspect the draconic heads and cryptic writing.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

GM Rednal |
There doesn't seem to be anything particularly noteworthy about the faces carved into the wall, nor the messages written - if anything, they seem like decorations, or perhaps items meant for someone else... there's a lot about these dungeons that make no sense whatsoever, and while there may be interior details that are important, this doesn't seem to be one of them.

Virdania Scardotia |

Nodding as she looks between the two as each speaks in turn.
First to "Jay"
"Jay, I con fight." She casually motions to the wooden weapons at her side. While it looked like she knew how to wear them her hands didn't have the tell tell calluses that develop from wielding such weapons. Walking with confidence though she would look at everything and motions to see the map.
Upon looking at it she would take a drop of blood and put it on the room to mark it as "explored" for her benefit and then would point to the one north of them. "Go?" Once they affirmed that was where they were going next she would draw her club and would follow them heading that direction her eyes peeled for anything coming along either hallway. She had to rely on sight for most of it.

GM Rednal |
The room straight north is easily accessed through an open archway. Part of the ceiling has collapsed into the room, and several barrel staves are
scattered throughout the chamber. There are wooden doors on the west, northern, and eastern sides of the room, but more worrying is the fact that the western door seems to have a trap on the floor before it.

Jason Fury |

"Find anything interesting?" says Jason from behind.
As soon as Elli says it's clear, Jason strides into the room. I Wonder what's inside these?
He begins to look inside each barrel.
-Posted with Wayfinder

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania would study his lips and nod then points to the same door.
"Go Norf to room." Pointing to the northern door. "Go Norf also to same room but por'cullis in hallway too." Points to the eastern door. "Go back to eastern rooms"
Flames flicker along her skin as she looks at them and studies the room intently and moves to the barrel staves and picks a couple up. She could use these as weapons so she figured it was good to have them. She would also see if there was a metal band that goes around them.

Elliomander Ostarian |

Elliomander inspects each of the doors (except the one with the trap in the way)...
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
assuming the north door is not trapped, and I don't hear anything behind it...
He opens the north door and readies his polearm to greet any would be attackers.

Jason Fury |

Jason come's up behind Elliomander and finds the portcullis barring their way as well. Maybe we can try lifting this one, I'll help.
STR Check, aid (when tried): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania's eyes would scan along the walls and beyond the portcullis her eyes looking for anything hidden or moving.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Also glancing back behind them to make sure nothing is coming up from behind.

Jason Fury |

@Elli: I'd include a victory shout as we lifted that, but Jason isn't that brutish. lol
Jason leans on the side to recover from the exertion, although Elli did most of the work on the portcullis with reluctance. Looking back, he sees Virdania scanning their passage behind them and says as she looks back at them, Did you see something?
Soon after the idle chatter, Jason proceeds to watch the surroundings in front of them carefully before proceeding ahead.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24

Virdania Scardotia |

Shaking her head she would follow them in. Since she couldn't hear she relied on her other senses to make up for it.
Her hand slid along the wall as she slowly moved in after them.

GM Rednal |
After Elliomander calmly proves the wimpy caster idea wrong by brute-forcing a portcullis open, entry to the next chamber is simple. The room is quiet, and apparently empty of, well, everything. There's a stone door to the west that seems to go back to the previous room - probably not worth bothering with - and an unlocked simple wooden door to the north. There's no sign of a trap on it.

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania seeing him with his glaive would nod and moves over to the door and grabs the handle.
Once everyone looked ready she would open the door in such a way as to leave her on the hinge side of the door, to give him maximum clearance.

GM Rednal |
The door is easy enough to get through, and the next room is... empty. On the bright side, lack of opposition makes it easier to advance and reduces the chance you'd run out of supplies before clearing the dungeon. On the downside, no treasure or ways to resupply mid-way... hmm. Still, that couldn't last forever, right?
There were two other doors in the chamber, both by the northern side. The western one was a locked strong wooden door, while the eastern one was an unlocked door of the same type.

Virdania Scardotia |

Virdania would scan the room and then looks around and orients herself on the map before pointing to the western door.
"Wooms that way eventually end." She states in a soft voice. "Woom beyon door." She would move towards it after the all clear sign and would get ready to open it again.

Jason Fury |

This is suspicious... it doesn't seem anyone else got here before us though. says Jason as he follows the others. He also scans the chosen doorway (by majority ofc) for traps and such before pushing it open.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
