Daeron Lareththor |

Daeron wakes from a dreamless sleep, looking around in the darkness. Forcing himself to shake off his lingering torpor, he looks carefully into the night trying to remain still. The dragon? Putting a single finger over his lips, he gently shakes his familiar, eyes still straining into the darkness. Manulani wakes fretfully, but quickly stops moving once he sees the serious expression on his master's face.

Akulayok grabs up his bow and stands. He moves in front of Garand. He says in Elven, "Icy breath coming."
When he hears the shriek, he draws an arrow, nocks, and aims outside their ice shelter. He steels his nerves and calms his mind visualizing the eye of the dragon as his target.

Reaching into his pack, Daeron feels the desired metamagic rod slide into his magically. With a quick grin he recovers a piece of licorice root from his component pouch as he begins chanting. Indicating all of his companions with a gesture, he blows on the root and it begins to hover in the air. A small wind begins to whip around the root and, as Daeron says one final word, the wind disperses to each of his companions. All of them begin to feel as if every move they make will happen faster. "Manu, start enlarging Theoden and Pavel." Nodding in satisfaction, Daeron stands and prepares a pinch of mica in preparation for blinding the dragon.

Woops, I forgot about that part. Mind if I burn a swift action round 1 after I'm done casting to teleport outside? I can then stand up round 2 as per my description and probably see the dragon. I'd need to shift into a space I can see, so presumably something just outside the entrance.

Theoden Orrick |

Mithral armor here as well. Is my Smite Evil still active? Here's a link: Smite evil. Let me know because I'm not sure.
Theoden rises and grabs his sword and shield, preparing himself for the beast once again. "Aha! Our fine, magnificent friend has returned! Good, I was getting worried." He grins as Daeron makes him giant again. "You know, I could almost get use to this."
I'm guessing rising up and arming myself is pretty much two rounds worth. If not, he'll go total defense and wait for the beast to show up before acting.

It is near the end of Pavel and Garand’s shift and they’re glad for the rest ahead, when, above the howling sound of the cold wind, they hear snow crunching in the area of the crevasse. From the sound of it, something heavy has collapsed some snow.
Pavel shakes as many of the others as he can.
"Hey! Ruh'round two's about to start, let's go!", he whispers urgently.
Garand picks someone Pavel isn't already shaking awake and does the same. "Something comes. Arm yourself."

"Thank you, my stoic friend," Theoden tells Garand as he shakes the cobwebs out, rises, and then brushes himself off, nodding to their resident healer in thanks. "I needed that. So," he looks over to the dead dragon, "it appears we have won the day. 'Tis a shame, I must say. Such a magnificent beast. Oh the tales it could've told! One could've listened for a TIME to the numerous tales it most likely could weave. Ah well. Now what do we do with it?" he asks as he looks to the others, right before an idea comes to mind. "You know, we could skin the creature and fashion a fantastic form of armor out of it. So as to remember it or honor it, if you will. Seems only fitting. Hate to just leave it here to rot all willy-nilly, you know."

"As unpleasant as the task sounds, we should find the dragon's nest, and destroy or carry away whatever eggs we find, that these lands are not plagued by hungry young at the start of the next season."
And, yanno, carry away any phat lewtz, that they do not artificially inflate and destroy the local economy, based on seal blubber as it is. :)

Daeron rushes towards Theoden, calling for Manulani to bring his magical healing. But the pair are outpaced by Garand and Daeron sighs in relief as his knightly friend stands from the bloodied snow. "I'm glad you're alright, friend Theoden." Daeron casts a glance towards the dragon's body and shivers. "After that vicious onslaught, I was worried you'd gone to your final rest."
Daeron studies the dragon's fallen form with a mixture of relief and sadness as Theoden makes his proposal. "I'm sure the dragon did have some tales to tell, but I'm not sure they'd all be ones I'd care to hear." Shaking off the uncomfortable thought, Daeron glances at Theoden as he says, I'm inclined to agree with Garand that I would not wish to wear the hide of a sentient creature. As noted, I will not object if you wish to do so, though I'd caution you to consider what may happen should we encounter a dragon later. All this said, Pavel seems to have struck at the heart of things and I'd suggest we turn in for the evening. I believe, now that the dragon is no longer a significant threat, that I might be able to alleviate the need to climb to a degree."
Casting one last look at the fearsome Icy Scourge, Daeron wanders over to speak to Akulayok. He claps the hunter on the arms as he says, in Elven, "That was impressive shooting. It is small wonder you are one of the foremost hunters for your tribe. Did your father teach you to shoot so?"

"Takes more than a mighty dragon to bring down Theoden Orrick, good Daeron." He winks, grinning.

Pondering the wizard's opinion along with Garand's, "Yes perhaps you two are right. Fair enough. I shall the leave the fantastic beast to its icy grave. But I do believe Garand is right. We do need to find these eggs and dispose of them." His tone is a bit remorseful at the thought until another idea comes to mind, his eyes lighting up at the thought. "Or we could carry them back to the tribe and see if they would prefer to raise them. Just think of it: a group of dragons trained to guard your land from intruders! There could be no better line of defense than that, I daresay," he exclaims with utmost confidence.

![]() |

"I would not trust such power to be left to that shaman. He is a bent soul, and would perhaps set them to bringing other communities woe, at great profit to himself and his followers." Garand says, not much caring if Akulayok can overhear.
"Let us rest, for the remainder of the night. No scavenger will likely trouble this kill, or even skulk so near a dragon's lair, and it's not like there will be spoilage, in this bitter cold, if any wish to carve trophies or meat from the brute."

Theoden Orrick |

Scratching his chin, "You do realize, my non-smiling friend, you take a great deal of fun out of my ideas with your sound logic. It's quite troubling, I assure you," he says with a raised eyebrow, a smile slowly forming. "Yes, let us return to our rest, I... wait a minute I have an even better idea! I could keep one and raise it as my own! Not that would be grand indeed!" Before he gets himself completely lost in the thought, he returns to reality and takes a peek over at Garand. Seeing the eternal stoic visage that never seems to leave his face, Theoden, strangely enough, somehow is able to read him like a book. "You know, the fact that I know that look is also quite troubling," he mumbles out loud. "Oh very well, Mr. Sound Logic, no dragons for me to keep and train then. But, it's worth a fancy of dreams don't you think?" he asks rhetorically as he gives a friendly pat on the back. "You know, Garand, one day you are going to smile, and when you do! - I'll be there waiting to make sure I catch it." He winks, nodding and grinning wryly.

Akulayok |

Akulayok says to Daeron, "Stories of my father taught me." He approaches the glistening beast. He takes out his knife and cuts his arrows free. He rubs his hand over the dragon's scaly skin. "Good skin."
"You are good hunters," he says to the group in Elven.

Even the greatest of hunters stands no chance against the joined might of the many.
The companions, with a sense of accomplishment, having defeated one of the greatest hunters of the icy realms of the North, spend the rest of the night without further incidents, except perhaps for the freezing temperature.
Fortitude DC 11 for all.
The next day is spent exploring the crevasse. With time, ropes, skills and spells, you manage to get everybody to a set of cave located under the lip of ice. The chasm below goes down for 400 feet.
In the caves, you find broken dragon egg shells with, beside them, an Erutaki hammer.
Also, you find the dragon's hoard:
-one lesser dragon slaying arrow,
-a +2 long sword,
-a potion of protection from arrows,
-a ring of feather falling,
-a horse terra-cotta talisman,
-a wand of ray of enfeeblement (15 charges),
-a +1 light steel shield,
-a masterwork cold iron spiked gauntlet,
-a masterwork composite shortbow (+2 Strength) with 11 arrows,
-a masterwork spear,
-a climber’s kit,
-200 feet of silk rope,
-a piece of amber (worth 100 gp),
-three bloodstones (worth 50 gp each),
-a blue sapphire (worth 500 gp),
-a leather quiver decorated with winter wolf fur and tooled with Snowcaster elf designs (worth 500 gp),
And a bed made of:
-3,104 cp,
-2,521 sp,
-594 gp,
-202 pp.
At the bottom of the pit lay the rotten carcass of another dragon, somewhat smaller, and male.
This has taken you a full day of work. The temperature is much nicer here and you decide to spend the night in the caves.
Another Fortitude please, DC 11.

The Celestial Bureaucracy |
This Tien ceramic statuette is molded in the likenesses of an armored horse and is considered a
symbol of good fortune in battle. Once per day, the possessor of a terra-cotta talisman can reroll a single attack roll as an immediate action, with a +1 luck bonus on the reroll, and keep the most favorable result.
A terra-cotta talisman also contains the vestige of a spirit of an ancient warrior or warbeast that can be called upon once per day as a standard action to manifest itself as a spiritual force.
The Terra-Cotta Horse can be used to call a phantom steed (CL 6).

Before the descent, Marak expends one or more uses of channel energy to make sure that everyone is at full health.
During the night, he will make use of his new Unity domain power, allowing each of his allies to his saving throw instead of their own on the nightly Fortitude saves, if they wish (or their own, whichever is better, or they prefer, but the decision must be made before the see the roll). With a +12, Théoden shouldn't bother, as Garand only has a +10 Fort save. :)

"If we bring this hammer back, perhaps the Erutaki can identify who made it, although I am wary of some deeper game..." Garand digs a small hole for the remains of the eggs, and buries them with a prayer that these tiny spirits wing their way to their rest.
He then turns to the more practical matters of identifying and appraising the dragon's hoard.
Again, he uses Unity, so everyone can choose to use his roll instead of rolling their own Fortitude save

"It appears there is murder in our midst. The question is: Who has the ability to find their way in here without the dragon noticing and at the same time able to kill its young in the process? Both are amazing feats in and of themselves. And this hammer that is of Erutaki make, seems to be a sloppy mistake by the Erutaki to leave it, wouldn't you say? A set-up, perhaps? Someone attempting to draw interest in one direction while they make their escape towards another?"

Theoden Orrick |

Theoden looks to Pavel with a raised eyebrow, nodding in absolute agreement. "Not paranoia, Pavel, more like a sound theory. Being so far away I had forgotten about them but now it becomes far more clear. It appears, gentlemen, there is no place we can run with out the Shadows upon us. They, if any, would easily have the means to accomplish such a task as eliminating the eggs. The Frozen Shadows are going to haunt us until they are brought down, and brought down permanently," he states with conviction.
