DC 15 Reflex save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Korvus grimaces as the bucket of liquid thrown by the white-skinned humanoid leaches away most of the necromantic energy bolstering his own life-force. (8 points acid damage subtracted from the 10 temporary hp from False Life.)

Korvus mutters the words to a spell and points at the small white-skinned humanoid as he touches the badge upon his jacket. Suddenly a cloud of shimmering gold dust appears out of thin air, coating the small humanoid with tiny sparkling motes. With his spell cast, the wizard reaches into his jacket pocket to retrieve a scroll.

Standard action to cast Glitterdust (Extended using Warden Hawkran's Badge) on the small white-skinned acid-chucker; all creatures and objects within a 10-ft radius spread of the creature are covered by the dust, which visibly outlines invisible things. The dust cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades (Extended duration 8 rounds). All creatures in the dust must make a DC 16 Will save or be blinded; each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect.

Move action to retrieve Scroll of Protection from Evil.

He growls as he bounds up the stairs taking 3 or 4 at a time on a coarse to crash into the grinning little creep at the top. As he heads toward the man, he leads with his brass-knuckled fist, putting all his weight behind the blow. He squints his eyes to avoid the glitter suddenly filling the air around the grinner.

Grabbing his spell component pouch, Andrezi feels a wave of relief wash over him - though by no means out of the water yet, at least now he can protect himself more thoroughly. Holding the pouch between his too-bare legs so he can use both hands, he pulls out a small piece of cured leather from the pouch, holds it in one hand, while uses the other hand to quickly weave words of power in the air, all while speaking firmly, and casts Mage Armor.

As the spell takes hold, a shimmer of transparent, purple energy covers Andrezi's body for a moment, encasing him in a suit of force armor - as quickly as it appeared, it faded, leaving Andrezi with a feeling of protection.

With that, Andrezi grabs onto the spell component pouch and holds onto it, not having anywhere to put it for now.

Move Action to grab the Spell Component Pouch.
Standard to Cast Mage Armor.

AC has increased to 16 for 5 hours.

Bjorn leans down to inspect the zombie he just dropped.

Bjorn:
It's not a zombie - it's a person. His skin is mottled and pock-marked, and his face is slack and loose, but he is definitely alive - or was just a moment ago...

You also notice the other "zombies" appear to be staring at the one lying on the ground - they do not appear interested in attacking you.

The other zombies step forward, but do not attack.

Korvus' spell goes off, bathing the top of the stairs in brilliant glitter for a moment. The small humanoid is covered in the magical glitter and for just a second, his image shifts into that of a tiny plastic pony!

But the image of a small horse proves to be a side effect of the spell, and after half a second, everyone's vision clears to reveal the small man still standing there. He blinks his eyes a few times, then takes an involuntary step back as the looming form of Harold rushes up the stairs at him. Not blinded.

Knowledge (local) DC 14:
This appears to be a dark creeper[/ur;].

With a powerful roundhouse, Harold drives his fist into the little man's face.
You see the skinless man appear down the hallway and starting to head toward you.

Lucius' divine power infuses his allies, healing their wounds Gets everyone except Andrezi.

The little man produces a dagger from his sleeve, feints one way, then attacks Harold. While the fake attack is not clever enough to fool the half-orc, the small dagger pierces his defenses.

Andrezi:
The sounds of battle outside the door have grown silent - whatever is happening is either over, or has moved away from the door. Now may be a good time for escape!

I'll update the map this evening. If you feel like acting before the map is posted, that's fine with me.

”Can you understand me?” he grunts. ”If you can’t speak, just nod.”

The zombies stare at you for a moment before slowly nodding.

"I don't know what's going on in here but it seems to me you lot are victims just as much as anyone else. Follow me. I'm gunna get you out of here."

One speaks up, "We can't leave - we have to stay here to get our medicine."

Another nods, "Yes, Vorkstag made us like this, with his experiments... And if we don't do what he says, he won't give us our medicine. We'll.... we'll die if we don't get it."

Bjorn:
You can tell from talking to these pitiful people that they have been physically, and likely mentally, abused.

Character Sheet

"Living like this isn't living at all. Better to die free than live as monsters", the hulking ulfen says. "But the choice is yours."

Sven follows after his allies, leaving the 'zombies' to make their choice.

I've uploaded a new map in the shared folder, Bjorn's action is done, so everyone else is up.

The people do not respond, but they do not chase after the Ulfen man as he races up the stairs.

Korvus steps up behind Harold and touches the half-orc's shoulder while reading the mystical words inscribed on his scroll. The writing disappears from the parchment, granting the pugilist a protective barrier against the forces of evil. Korvus drops the now-blank parchment and retrieves a second scroll from his jacket pocket.

5 ft. step to square P,15. Standard action to use scroll to cast Protection from Evil on Harold, granting him a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves against attacks from evil creatures, plus the other benefits of the spell. Please note: Korvus used the Wand of Mage Armor on Harold when we escaped the room with the poison gas trap, so Harold's AC is now 22.

Move action to retrieve Scroll of Levitate.

Questions for DM Haldhin:

Korvus casts a spell upon Harold, while Lucius calls upon his faith to shield Bjorn in battle.

Harold focuses his power into a stunning blow:
Fort save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
and the small humanoid staggers from the attack, dropping two daggers and shaking his head, apparently trying to recover his vision.

The skinless man moves up and brings his claws into play against Harold:
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 I think that hits even with the Prot Evil? Please confirm.
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Korvus:
The ceiling is 10 feet above the highest platform where the two enemies are standing. I have included an elevation guide on the map. The enemies are on the top level; Harold is 5' below that level, you are 5' below him, and both Lucius and Bjorn are 5' below you. Bjorn and/or Lucius would have to move 10' up to attack from a square diagonally below the dark creeper (or the skin stealer). If they moved 15' up, they would be at the same elevation. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question! :)

-----

Heroes are up again.

Character Sheet

Harold is AC 22 with mage armor and prot evil. Also, judging by the map, it looks like Bjorn can't get into the room. Is that true?

Ah, knew I was forgetting something - mage armor. Thanks! So the attack doesn't hit Harold. You cannot get up there on the staircase, but I'm guessing that Korvus is about to help you out.

In that case, Bjorn delays.

Slowly, Andrezi opens up the door and peeks outside, attempting to be as quiet as can be as he does so. In one hand he still carries his spell component pouch. Having no where to put it - and not willing to store it in his breeches - he is forced to hold onto it for now.

"Master Stonehand! Please step to the other side of Master Lucius so I may levitate you to the walkway above!" Korvus instructs his companion. (Requesting Bjorn move 10 ft north of Lucius position on map.)

Once Bjorn moves to the indicated location, Korvus recites the mystical words inscribed upon his scroll. As the runes disappear from the parchment, the wizard mentally wills the Ulfen to rise into the air to the level of the catwalk above.

Standard action to cast Levitate from scroll onto Bjorn. Move action to mentally direct Bjorn upward 15 ft; this should place him adjacent to the catwalk. I assume there is a railing on the catwalk that Bjorn can grasp and use to swing himself over onto the walkway.

Character Sheet

Bjorn moves north a few feet not entirely understanding the wizard's instructions. When he's magically lifted from the ground, the big ulfen grunts in surprise and pinwheels midair but stays in control long enough to pull himself over onto the walkway.

"That's enough. I want to stop flying now", he says with some alarm.

If Bjorn is in position after this maneuver, he'll take a swing.

Punch: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Damage: 1d3 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13

Harold attempts to move the small man down the stairs, but he is unable to find a solid grip.

Korvus casts a spell, while Lucius watches to see how he can best support his companions.

Bjorn, the target of Korvus' spell, floats upward, finally managing to grab the railing and flip up onto the walkway. The skinless creature charges at him, but fails to land a blow. Bjorn tries to punch the monster, but his aim is off and his fist sails over his target's head!

Andrezi:
You see a large open room with barrels against the far wall, an open doorway to the right, and several humanoid figures standing near a staircase that leads upward. You also hear shouting and what seems like fighting happening somewhere above you.

Small humanoid is stunned this round.

Lucius, you delayed through the round.

Next actions, please.

Bjorn, since your feet are on the walkway you can still attack and/or move horizontally while under the effect of the Levitate spell, albeit at half-speed. I could dismiss the spell using my standard action, but I was planning to cast a Summoning spell this round to give you a flanking buddy. Plus, if the Skinless Man were to somehow knock you off of the walkway, you might want to still have the Levitate spell active.

Lucius, if you move to the step below me, you may be able to get a shot at the Skinless Man.

With Bjorn delivered to the walkway and engaged in battle with the Skinless Man, Korvus begins the incantation for a spell to summon an ally for the Ulfen warrior.

Full round action to cast Summon Monster II.

Character Sheet

Alright, I'd imagined I was levitated further.

With a roar, Bjorn lunges for the unnatural skinless man.

Bjorn lunges at the skinless man and deftly puts the unnatural monster into an expertly executed grappling hold. The monster struggles against Bjorn's superior strength:

And slashes at Bjorn with a clawed hand.

Attack, claw: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage, claw: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Korvus begins casting a spell, while Lucius looks for a way to get into the fight!

Giving Harold a chance to post, then we'll continue tomorrow with him and the small humanoid

Character Sheet

Is he trying to escape? Escaping is normally a standard.

Sorry, it's late and I'm tired after a long day and a baby that didn't want to go to sleep. :) You're absolutely right. I'm going to leave it there, but let's ignore the Escape Artist check. He attacked you with two claws, but only one hit. Does that work?

Character Sheet

Yeah, that works.

Bjorn growls as the skinless man's claws draw blood - a growl that quickly becomes an ursine roar. The big ulfen's frame swells with layers of brawn and snow white fur sprouts up from his exposed skin. His bearded face shifts into a bear's maw full of deadly sharp fangs.

Bear shifting as an immediate.

Flurry of Blows Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Bjorn's form instantly shifts into that of a huge bear.

Lucius moves up and shoots, but his shot is slightly too high.

Harold punches the smaller man twice - the first blow has his target reeling, while the second one causes his eyes to roll back into his head. He falls into an unconscious heap.

What is Bjorn planning to do, assuming the skinless man continues to resist?

Character Sheet

Bear stuff. =P

With the skinless man in his claws, the Ursine-Ulfen holds him tight and brings his jaw to bear.

Maul: 1d20 + 14 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 14 + 5 - 2 = 32
Damage: 1d6 + 9 + 3 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 3 + 6 = 22

He'll eventually squeeze him into unconsciousness.

Bjorn continues crushing the skinless man in his massive paws, even gnawing upon the creature and rending his flesh. After several frantic moments of struggling, the skinless man begins shrieking and screaming, finally realizing the truth of his situation.

After another few moments of Bjorn's attention, the skinless man's voice trials off and he hangs limply in the bear's arms.

Fair enough, you were close to it with that attack.

So the skinless man and the small humanoid are both unconscious. What would the group like to do now?

Andrezi, I have you just entering the storage room looking around, let me konw if you want to move up and/or out.

"Indeed, Master Stonehand," Korvus says as he allows the spell he was casting to fizzle out. At the same time, the wizard dismisses the spell of levitation he had cast on the Ulfen. "I suggest we bind and gag them securely. We should also take all of the items and skin-suits we discovered in the wardrobe - as well as the skin of Augustus Heiger this creature most recently wore."

Items in Question:
DM Haldhin wrote:

Inside the wardrobe are nearly twenty flayed skins, all of them hanging like empty sacks of flesh as one might store articles of clothing. Men and women of all shapes, sizes, and ages are within, as is another - more unusual - flesh suit. There is one, near the front, that appears to be nearly eight feet tall and grossly deformed. It is covered in stitching, scales, and fur, with a shock of black hair attached to the bald head. To the casual observer, this suit bears a striking resemblance to the Beast of Lepidstadt.

You discover a small panel in the back of the wardrobe containing the following: 500 gp in assorted coins, a silver drinking cup inlaid with obsidian worth 400 gp, and a syringe with six vials of black liquid.

There is also a ledger containing the names of customers who have purchased "parts" from Vorkstag and Grine. Many of the names are unknown to you, but there are two entries which catch your attention. The first is Doctor Brada, the man who ran the asylum on Sanctuary that burned down - one of the crimes Alpy is accused of committing.

The other entry is the most recent, with a note of "3 crates confirmed". The name listed is Auren Vrood, and the date is a week prior to your arrival.

Andrezi:
They appear to be zombies! But oddly, they seem congregated around the bottom of the stairs, and are not making any moves toward you - very unusual for undead.

Are you planning to do anything with the zombies and/or the mongrelmen?

Character Sheet

Unless we haven't actually met Andrezi yet...

It's fine, I'm guessing you might have seen him moving around on the floor below where you're standing. The center of the stairs is open, so it's not that much of a stretch.
