You make your way up to Grunyar and Mirrin, who have stopped when they hear your approach. Knivey Ivy follows, and introduces herself to them, filling them in on what she knows.

You follow the trail for four miles before coming upon a site of interest... let me know what kind of marching order you're working with (presuming Mirrin and Grunyar are going ahead, but how far?

Elmador is walking alongside the wagons and the donkeys. It's late for me here but tomorrow morning I want to use those 4 miles to get some more information from Knivey Ivy if I can

Wrex is leading the donkeys, so presumably just ahead of Elmador, but perhaps on the other side of the wagon-- as his slug would be coming up behind him.

Mirrin will be far enough ahead that him and whoever is with him can't make out the noise of the wagon. At a certain point you'll hear soemone coming long before you see them.

Grunyar gives the svirfneblin a once over. The small female is the first of her kind he has seen. He smiles at her accent as she speaks in dwarven. He accepts her introduction and shakes her hand.

Mirrin and Grunyar come to an area where a few side passages split off. The trail seems to lead to cave to the north, where it disappears.

Mirrin will mark the door by making three scratches by the entrance and signal gunyar for them to leave quickly where they will regroup with the rest. Upon catching up Mirrin will signal them to stop and gather the dwarves together.

Cousin, we must help these gnomes. It is our duty to show the dwellers of the under earth that the Dammerhall dwarves have returned. We must show them we have honor, unlike the Duergar.

With that said, Garnult heads towards the marked entrance.

The short exchange of words between Mirrin and Garnult sparks something in the mind of Grunyar. But is this honour to headless search for fights? he wonders. out loud he asks: "Is this a battle we are prepared for?"

"Nay. But the dark elves don't fight according to your preparedness. So be ready to fight without it." Securing the gear in the wagon and signaling the others that it's time to go he adds. "If you have any misgivings about Lord Garnult's sidetrek little brother feel free to watch the mules with the little lass."

"Dain, give me your weapon. You to Garnult."

Donagh grabs in his pouch and takes out something that looks like a steel pen. He uses this to inscribe a rune on Dain's weapon. He then goes over the rune three more times. Each time it seems as if the rune is etched deeper in the steel of the weapon. After returning Dain's weapon he does the same on Garnult's weapon. The whole process takes less than a minute.

"I am ready to to Bryggya's bidding, I am a tool in her capable hands, as we all are. She decides our fate, it is by her creed that we live and die. If today is the day we perish, we do so in the firm belief that we have lived our lives in Bryggya's honour.

Dain and Garnult, your weapon is masterwork for the next hour

"Let us return the light of Steel Sister to these lands. In Bryggya's honor!" - Dain whispers solemnly accepting his weapon from Donagh. He takes three steps forward, and makes a few jabs and swings with his newly (temporarily) enchanted weapon. Seeing a small rune reflecting the barest hints of light, and feeling secure grip on the handle of the weapon, Dain's lips curl upwards, showing hints of smile.

"'tis a good day to return favor to those dark-skinned bastards. Lead on, Mirrin!"

Stowing all his gear save combat essentials next to Mirrin's Grunyar replies: "I doubt not your skill or the wits of our Lord. I will fight beside you, however being prepared is the bedrock success is built on. Dark elves or no dark elves."

Adjusting his armour, secure a dagger and inspecting his blades Grunyar sheets his normal dwarven steel and lingers a moment at his priced ancient blade. Looking to the others ending at Mirrin he says with a smile on his lips: "After you older brother."

"Well, I doubt these Skis'Raal are going t' be open much t'talking and I feel a tad exposed 'ere lads Elmador pulls out a tiny scrap of leather from his belt pouch and mutters a few words - the wind around him picks up momentarily and then settles leaving a field of slightly denser air surrounding him that shimmers every so often [casts mage armor]. "Ready when you are friends" he says, once again rolling his sleeves up.

Questions for Knivey Ivy:

"Knivey I'm gonna bend ya ear a little if'n you don't mind none" Elmador rushes out the words in one go, his initial courage at introducing himself gone "what were you and the sheriff and t'others doing out 'ere anyways? Ya said you were lookin' fer help but why is that? Because this Lord Slowly is atreatin' with those spindly long eared black 'earted devils? What kind o' help was Gunther after? You reckon that the Skis'Raal were actin' all kinds o' out of sorts attackin' and killin' yer Sheriff, ya think maybe Slowly put 'em up to it? Are there a lot o' drow in Fasturvalt? We were 'oping to make our way there oursen get some supplies and information you see, and now it seems our welcome might be a little cold if'n the place is swarming with dark elves... Elmador pants a little and starts coughing wretchedly after speaking so long without a pause "sorry lady, me lungs are not what they should be and sometimes my mind gets ahead of my mouth and manners"

  • Why was there an expedition from Fasturvalt
  • What kind of help was Gunther looking for
  • Were Gunther and Lord Slowly at odds with each other
  • Was their rivalry such that Slowly would try to have Gunther killed
  • Are there Drow in Fasturvalt and if so how many?

And as knowledge dungeoneering isn't revealing any info about Skis'Krall I'll try knowledge Arcana and Knowledge History to see if dwarves eer treated or fought with Skis'Raal

Wrex presses onward with the group, and nods as they prepare for battle. "You all can count on O'Slick and I." He pats his giant slug and murmurs a few words of encouragement, preparing for battle along. He takes out what seems to be a small, black colored flare from his backpack, and nods to the others. "Bryggya will show us the way."

In the tunnel to the north, Donagh and Wrex spot a section of the ceiling that is falsified stone, crafted of webbing and dirt, possibly a large door, right above where the trail stops. The ceiling is 10' above the cave floor.

Skis'raal are magical beasts, medium intelligent "spiders" of the underdark. They are poisonous and web-spinners, able to sense even the tiniest tremors in the ground nearby. They speak their own language and undercommon.

"Old Sheriff Gunther hes hired me to show em the way ta Kladdenvalt. He says the old Drow Baron passed on, and he heard dat the woman what replaced him isn't satisfied with the old arrangement. He's- he was, anyway, convinced dat the Drows were going ta take Fasturvalt, and dat Lord Gierni ain't nowhere near smart enough ta stop them. So he wanted to go to mighty King Olvain But-Whispers-and-a-Thouand-Warriors-Answer to send help. Lord Gierni Speaks-the-Truth-But-Slowly didn't believe the Sheriff and forbade the journey. Gunther left anyway. I don't think Lord Slowly is smart enough ta hire Skis'raal to attack the Sheriff, but maybe dat 'Emissary' from da Drow mighta."

"They're holed up in there." Mirrin says prodding the door with his long axe in the ceiling. "Aye, they'll know we're comin less you mastered the art of flyin"

"Since most of us is earthbound, what do you suggest?" Grunyar asks Mirrin while he looks in the indicated direction. his blade slowly drifts to a position ready to thrust should something attack from that direction.

"I'd run off and never look back, or just wait them out. Trying to fight against a smart spider on a sheer wall isn't my idea of a fight I'd care to have."

Elmador pipes up "Mirrin, if'n you think they're waiting for us and know we're acomin' then maybe I can make 'em think twice about hangin' out so close? Got a bit o' somethin' that could make 'em back off a ways. A cloud of some pretty nasty acid might make a nice housewarmin' gift to our spindly mates doncha think?"

I can use my Acid Cloud ability from the earth domain on the detritus and webbing. Doesn't do much damage really but it is a small AoE (5' radius) that sickens. Might make it easier for us to get up there if they are lying in ambush. On the other hand if they're not sat up there waiting then we've just announced our presence in a big way

Mirrin hears a whisper of a noise above as the skis'raal opens the "door", as does Ivy. Neither hears the stealthy skis'raal sneaking to flank in the south. However, what they hear is enough for them to be able to react to the sound while the rest of the party is surprised.

In Dwarven, which he hopes the things speak, he will deliver his ultimatum.

Garnult will hold his action to attack if any creature makes a threatening move towards his party.

Continuing the surprise round, after Mirrin's action, Skis'raal#2 attempts to web Ivy, saying in undercommon "Looks like we missed a juicy svirfneblin, lover. But she has delivered herself just in time to add to our collection, and brought some fat juicy dwarves as well. We should thank her by eating her last, yes?"

Ranged touch attack (web) vs favored enemy 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 = 19 Ivy is stuck in a web.

Ivy realizes her predicament and attempts to wriggle free from the webbing.

Escape Artist vs DC 13 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 She manages to escape.

Skis'raal #1, having been struck hard by Mirrin, steps back and attempts to web Mirrin in turn.

Ranged touch attack (web) 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 Mirrin is struck by the webbing, becoming entangled in the goey mess.

"Indeed, my love, they shall be fine additions to our prisoners. Be careful with this one, his teeth are sharp. And yours is a slippery lass."

Garnalt, the link to the map is in my previous post. Also, only Ivy Mirrin and the skis'raal acted in the surprise round, so you can either keep your stated action or modify it accordingly.

Well they definitely made threatening moves, so lets say that Garnult will still deliver his ultimatum and because he seems to be in 5' melee range of the spider, he will move action draw his heavy pick and attack if the skisraal don't immediately surrender. I'll keep the attack roll as the bonuses are the same there but damage would be 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Being far less noble than their leader Grunyar dodges to the side E;22of the monster and lashes out with his pride the Dammerhall short sword but misses.

Ivy backs away towards the group (withdraws).

Wrex moves to Mirrin and help assist him out of the webs, but finds the sticky substance hard to pull off. He keeps his eyes on the other enemy, ready to tell his slug companion to attack if the creature refuses to surrender.

"No" says the skis'raal in undercommon "I can still get back to them before you." and it moves eastward. Garnult swings his longaxe but misses, as does Slick trying to spray past Garnult, but Elmador is able to sizzle it a little before it disappears around the corner east.

Elmador's acid cloud dissipates.

Everyone up.

Damn! Not again!!! - Cold sweat was engulfing Dain as he finally understood that he has simply froze in combat. It happened just once before, long time ago, when he first saw Werias of Jarfik, Great Inquisitor of Briggya.

Adrenaline pumping in his veins, drumming in his ears becaming painfully real, he could feel the anger building inside of him. Shamed because of his non-action, Dain bursts to a run, trying to catch the creature - "Oh no, you don't, you %^#*$!"

His shield and weapon drawn, Dain runs off at maximum speed, trying to catch up with retreating creature, oblivious of the possible dangers
