Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

I lied, Taishan does ring a bell. Just ignore that part.

Vince, Adrien and Mallichatti (if he follows) reach Adrien's home with the mysterious man who knows the name of your secret organization.

Molos:
I found out about the same time that everyone else in the streets did. Since it was a Hell Knight in trouble, the Thrune personal guard handled the arrest, trial and everything except escorting Lugen to the platform. Apparently Hell Knights doing it showed solidarity or something political like that.

Hp 27/27 AC 17 / 17 / 10 (+3 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +4)

DM:
Sydney does follow.

gm:
Whatever Lugen was doing must have had something to do with House Thrune, something to rattle Thrune leadership. As Lugen while as far as we know is a traitor I do not remember in my youth executions of traitors being attended by a pitfiend. As whatever lugen did do it was not something so politically imporant as to require the presence of a pitfiend. That kind of ttention is reserved for say a traitor who assisted one of Cheliax's enemies in winning a major military victory. The pit fiend's presence instead of a house Thrune annoucer means that Thrune is sending a warning to someone or something, out of all the forces in Cheliax what faction could potentially cripple House Thrune?

Molos:
You're correct, it is not often that the General attends executions. Maybe treason from a Hell Knight was enough to warrant it, or maybe Thrune thinks that they need to remind everyone of their power, or, if your theories on Lugen are true, they figured it all out and through the General was needed. Let's hope for your sake it was one of the first two. Gregorvich leans back in his chair, staring at the cieling for a while. House Charthagnion is the obvious answer, and they certainly have motives. Henderthane might have the strength to try such a result but the risk of failure for them is huge; they lose their weapons pipeline and probably lose a lot of their high ranking military officers. I doubt any of the other houses have the strength, though maybe if they teamed up. Gregovich laughs. And that's not likely to happen

male tiefling

gm:
I have my own theory as to what Lugen found tht could have rattled House Thrune. Thrune's power is founded in the pacts that they have with Hell, this by the nature of the hells requires a contract. What I think Lugen found is a copy of those contracts, with the exact knowledge of how House Thrune made it's pacts with Hell one could potentially destroy or even control House Thrune. As for the pitfiend attending the execution that might be believable if Lugen had been a "face" of the hellknights. However he was not a "face", when a citizen thinks of the hellknights does the image of a one horned tiefling assassin spring to mind?

Molos:
Gregorvich chuckles at the idea of Lugen as the face of the Hell Knights. Yes, if Thrune found Lugen messing with their contract in any way then they would be very upset. I don't know why he would go straight after Thrune though, the only benefits of that would be for House Charthagnion, and then Cheliax would be under as much or more oppression. Was Lugen working for Charthagnion? As soon as he says it, Gregorvich shakes his head. No, that's not likely.

male tiefling

gm:
Lets think back before the rise of House Thrune and the death of the Last Azlanti, what were the power groups at that time? And more to the point could any of them have survived into this age?

Molos:
I'm a Hell Knight, Molos, not a historian. I know Thrune came to power during the civil and expansion wars, and that many thought Charthagnion would keep control of Cheliax. Thrune won out though. There aren't many factions surviving from that age that I know of... Gregorvich thinks for a second, Except for the hell knights that is.

male tiefling

gm:
Could the Order of the Gate's secrecy be a cover for the forces of Hell? As they could easily operate out in the open without fear of being attacked, which means that their secrecy must be hiding something imporant. Say the secrets of our "beloved and illutrous" rulers?

Molos:
Nothing the order of the gate does could count as acting out in the open. Since Thrunes takeover the Hell Knights have grown strong enough to rival some of the houses. I don't know that a faction would could have the power though. Only higher level hell Knights are admitted into factions so there ate as many unaffiliated as affiliated. Order of the gate has a very unique position, so... Yes, they could have the strength to do so. But less about the secrets and more about the language of the contracts. Unfortunately, all of this still leaves us in the same speculative state that we staryed in.

male tiefling

gm:
I will be going to the party tonight, are there any persons of note that you think could have something to do with this? And what do they look like, what is their reputation and interests? I am sorry if I am being annoying but information is key here.

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

Adrien shuts the door behind everybody. Placing a single chair in the center of the room, he points. "Sit, Taishan. Talk."

Molos:

The Leroung Ball? You'll probably want to to Morgrim Igmar or one of the Leroung Nobles. Morgrim has a good head for street knowledge. He knows what most people already know, but he sifts through it efficiently. The Leroung nobles can probably help your questions about history and power factions. If you can get them to talk at least, they're not too outgoing.

Adrien, Mallichatti and Vince:
No, we are all Taishan; I'm Rantin. The man quivers under the stares provided by those listening. He starts to continue, but a thought comes to him. So it's true that you lost your memories? I can't understand how... He leans back in the chair just a little bit, still aware of the intense stares. Where to start? Oh, myself I guess; even if it's just so you guys don't kill me. I'm Rantin, I work at the Herbologist shop near the low market well. More importantly, I am a clerk for the Taishan organization. Tiashan is split into the commander, Lugen, agents, you guys and others, and clerks, like me, who support the agents in any way possible. Or at least, that was how it worked until Lugen died and you guys lost your memories. I'm not sure how it works now. Ranting trails off, seemingly lost in his thoughts.

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

Adrien waits for a minute before anybody moves. The silence just continues. This guy has just trailed off into space. Lovely. Now there's a man with the attention span of a toddler. I hope the gods get all their laughs out while they can. Adrien snaps his fingers at Rantin.

"Back here Rantin, focus. Who told you to keep an eye on us?"

Hopefully Vince or Mallichatti are are following. I'd hate to have this guy repeat himself.

Lugen. Yesterday, before he... died. He said you guys had no memories and would probably need some help at somepoint. I didn't quite believe him about the memories and I don't know how I can really help though, I'm just a clerk.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

"What exactly do you mean by 'clerk'" I ask, "I can't imagine that a rebel organization really keeps a whole lot of paperwork."

male tiefling

gm:
Would you know where my place of residence is? I need to make the correct preparations for tonight.

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien:

Clerk might not be the right work, but it's a combination of messenger, runner, watcher, plannner, obtainer... He trails off. You get the idea. Every clerk is assigned to several agents and he keeps tabs on them for Lugen and helps out how he can. Lugen can't watch everyone, so he uses the non-agents like me. That way when he has information or a mission he only has to find one person instead of five.

Molos:
I'm not sure. I think it's somewhere in he names a part of the city Gregorvich saying it reminds you of the address on the front of your invitation to the Leroung ball.

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

"Well, lets start with what's left. Lugen said there's only the five of us agents left. What were we working on?"

male tiefling

gm:
I will be taking my leave then, goodluck in your endeavors.

Molos made his way to his residence carefully, his senses telling him of any dangers.1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien:

Left? I think it might just be us. Lugen made sure that the clerks only knew about the group of agents they worked with, and that agents only knew about their own cell of agents. That was if anyone got caught or turned they couldn't hurt the whole organization. When Lugen talked he me last he said we were the only ones left. The last major mission was undertaken in various parts by all of the agent cells. I wasn't ever told what you were actually doing, just the place and time to have you meet Lugen for the preparations.

Molos:
The stand alone building is plain on the outside and is not in good repair. There doesn't look to be any major structural problems, it is just as dirty as every other building in the area. As you approach it, your hand automatically reaches to a pocket in your garment, where it finds a key.

Sydney:
For the record, you are able to hear all of what is being said to and by Adrien, Vince and Mallichatti.

molos:
The inside of the house is split into two rooms, one for a bedroom and one for a kitchen, dining room and living room all in one. The furnishings are basic but look sturdy. There are also any of your personal affects like journals, trinkets, etc spread around the room.

Molos spotted a series of books and began to leaf through them carefully looking for something...

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

Adrien sits in silence for a minute. Taking in all that was just revealed, his frustration wells up again. "This is starting to get ridiculous. Everything is a dead end. How is it possible for someone to cripple us so badly, and at a time so perfect that we're left with nothing but dead ends?"

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

MAlichatti ignores Adriens outburst and simply asks. "So you knew us? Personally?"

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

"What was the place and time?" I ask.

Adrien is right. The timing is too perfect. Lugen was ostensibly the only one who had full info, and he clearly didn't betray us. None of us knew enough to betray us. Which means we're dealing with someone who either has powerful magic or a hell of a lot of spies. Or both I suppose. The more I learn about what we're up against, the less confident I feel about our chances of success. We have absolutely zero advantages. We don't even have any areas that could be turned into our advantage. Or if we do, we certainly don't know about it, which just makes whoever our enemy is all the scarier. This is frustrating. Paranoid people live longer and all that, but this is becoming too much. We need some sort of help. Which reminds me.

"Also: the name Dice Drem ring a bell?"

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien:

Rantin jumps onto Mallichatti's question, since he figures that will keep him safe from Adrien. I more knew of you than knew you. I didn't know who your friends were, but I knew what you could do and your usual schedules. Rantin trips up a bit. So I could find you if needed that is. I probably learned as much personal information as any other colleague learns. Rantin turns to Vince. 25th of Calistril, I think it as 7 or 8 at night. That's about ten days ago, he says as the date doesn't seem to register in your eyes. Dice? I think he is a Leroung noble. Rantin brightens. I can find out for you though.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

"Good. Also, you didn't say where. This is a chance to do some good ol' espionage, because we desperately need information. Also also, yes please find Mr. Drem. Quickly. Molos is out looking for him at the moment, but he's not exactly the most... tactful... of people," I realize that I'm talking a bit faster than usual. Can't tell if I'm stressed or excited. I need a drink. And a woman.

Which reminds me. Party tonight. Chance to acquire both. Most excellent.

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien:

It's a building in a neighborhood you don't recognize. I could take you there but it's just one of a million different buildings we use once and don't return to. Do you want me to find Master Drem now? and bring him here? Should I get the others too?. He looks around. I don't see Agent K here but I'm sure Sydney is probably around. If Molos split off he probably went to talk to Gregorvich. He looks at everyone in turn. Now?

"Now I'm contemplating gutting you." Malichatti says matter-of-factly. "I'm going to be honest here. The trouble with not having one's memorires is that trust is a bit difficult to get. Were we a part of a rebellion? LAtely I've found things that would point to no. You know us. But I've found others who know me. And if I asked them they'd laugh at everything you just said. You know, just before gutting you. So pardon me if I'm not a fan of waiting here for you to bringa highly trained actor, or speical agent to come in here and trick us into doing something incredibly stupid. Haples dupes in some kind of political coup. Yeah, sounds about right. So, what now?"

male tiefling

Molos gingerly studied the books, one seemed to be a tome concerned with the arcane, another the various lower planes, a third was a journal and the 4th had calculations of the arcane variety on its pages. He began to leaf through the journal...

your turn gm

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien:

Rantin actually seems to calm under Mallichatti's stare. "Mallichatti, you were passed over for promotion three times in favor of magic users: all three times the Thrune envoy for the Hell Knights stepped in to choose another officer. Since joining Taishan, you've been passed over an additional 4 times. Adrien, no one moment determined your hatred of the government, you've been filling yourself with hatred your whole life. You could say your whole life led you to Taishan. What better entity to unleash your hatred than the one who could take a seemingly endless supply of it. Vince, I'm still unsure about yours. Lugen managed to get a lady to trick you into pledging your help to Taishan and since then you have been our most loyal follower."

Molos:
Depending on how long you take to read the books you can regain quite a bit of your knowledge in those areas.

The journal is filled with little snippets of information. Some examples:
Morgrim Igmar - information dealer - low import info, fresh perspective
Quoben Chorster - blacksmith for Henderthane - werewolf
Dice Drem - Spy for House Leroung.
Rantin says there are smugglers frequenting the well in front of his shop
House Jeggare is bringing in shipments of "gun powder" - no knowledge of why

You do not find any personal information in the journals you can see.

male tiefling

Molos will spend at least two hours studying the journal to recoup lost knowledge.

Molos:
You'll get a +2 circumstance bonus to knowledge local.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

Well. All sorts of interesting revelations. Note to self. Don't show up Mall with magic. Won't take kindly. Side note: leave all magic enemies to Mall. Will auto-aggro. Boo ya.

More importantly though, is me. Some warning in the back of my mind starts going off.

"Lugen managed to get a lady to trick you into pledging your help to Taishan..."

Lugen. Trick. Lady. Pledge.

I feel weak, shaky, like I'm coming down off a high. Fear hits me, and I don't know why.

I've been tricked. I've been played. Again. How many layers does this thing have? First I think he's using me. Then I think he's on my side. Now, again I'm led to believe that he's playing me.

Fear is washed away by anger. My fists clench in frustration, teeth grinding. No matter what I think, there's always something telling me I'm wrong. But this seems different. Even if he was just being mercenary about the whole thing, and trying to recruit me regardless of the cost, I don't like it. I promised did I? Well. I guess I can fulfill that promise. But never again. After this, after we destroy Thrune, or Egorian, or even all of Cheliax, whatever. After that, Taishan's going down. Dead or alive, I will find Lugen, and he will pay for this. I do not like being blindly manipulated and shackled, even if it's by my own word. Regardless of his reasons or motives, he will pay.

I crack my neck and grin, showing as many teeth as possible.

"Go get Dice. Request a meeting, set up a rendezvous, whatever, I don't care. Just get it done." I wave him away.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

"I would've thought you'd welcome a little stress relief given your constant state of agitation," I reply mildly, leaning back against the wall, "I know I could use a lot more bloodshed in my life."

Molos finished reading the journal and moved on to the book with the arcane calculations.

Adrien sits back and takes in this exchange. This was getting better and better. Thinking on what he'd just said, Adrien remembered the slave trade. Seeing children traded to government officials, brothels, even hell fiends themselves, it only rang true in his mind. He smiled, his hatred renewed. Somehow, some way, despite not having his memories after childhood, he felt a semblance of his personality return. I'll go with him. If anything we need to know what's going on. And anyways....If he is lying, I think I want to eat him." at this, his vampire half overtook him, and his pupils dialated to an abnormal size. His short half-fangs barred at the man. Adrien seemed gone, but something else was there.

Vince, Mallichatti and Adrien,

Rantin was patiently watching as Mallichatti and Vince went back and forth but he shoots up out of his chair. "No, no, I think I'm good going alone. Just let me... uh.. He walks towards the door to leave. Any of you can accompany him if you would like.

Deep breaths. Rantin and Adrien walk out. More deep breaths.

Ok. Here we go.

"Well. Since you already set the bar with some solid sarcasm there, I guess I can't strive for any less. See, the way I had it planned, we would profess our trust and enthusiasm for our current 'fortune', and our dearest Rantin would then trot gleefully off to do whatever things Rantins do. After a brief cautionary period, our vengefully vindictive vampire friend would then follow at a discrete distance. And with utmost caution, he would observe the doings of our clerical acquaintance, after which he would report back to us, informing us whether or not he could be trusted, or was bringing a... how did you say it? 'Gang of murderers?' Yes. That was it. But. This way is much better! Now we have no real way of discerning whether he is friend or foe! I do so love surprises, and they say that anticipation makes the heart grow fonder. I can feel the fondness veritably frothing in my heart. At least I think that's what it is. It might be also be mind-numbing frustration. I'm not sure. They're so similar, you know?" I grace him with my most beneficent of smiles, and wonder how long it will take my hand to uncramp from this fist.

Should I have put more alliteration in there? I feel like I should have put more alliteration in there... XP

Malichatti shrugs. "Gutting him would have been easier. Everything here stinks of set up."
