Mallichatti:
The message only says it occured near House Jeggare

Adrien:
I have a job coming up: whoever caused the explosion. It's going to have to be you; I'm not allowed to kill someone of my own house. It will have to wait until we finish the investigation

Vince:
Your lawyer gives you a blank look. You need to destroy a contract? You realize that hasn't been done to a major house in... over 100 years. You're going to have to say more than that if you want my help.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Vince:
He seems committed to his words.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
Crap, the awkward vague route didn't work.

"Well, what do you want to know?"

Vince:
why do you think you need to destroy a contract?

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
"Well, technically I don't need to destroy the contract. Just the devil guarding it. I'm still torn on whether to actually destroy the contract or not. But either way, I need to know about them. It's a long, and unseemly obnoxious story. Lugen is involved, if that tells you anything. I'd really rather not say more. Not yet anyway. I'm just a wee bit paranoid at the moment, as you might understand."

Vince:
The only reason I can imagine for Lugen being involved is the devil you need to kill broke a law but there's insufficient evidence to correctly convict him and so Lugen is tasked with killing him and you are being asked to help. I'm not sure why they would contact you directly though, since lugen and his associates know i handle your business

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

GM:
"Then I'll be waiting. Thank you Anchises." After they finish their pieces, Adrien will leave, heading home to change, and figure some things out.

Lugen frees all of us, but tells us that he's from different houses. But we all meet the very next morning and figure out that it's a lie. I still need to find this Mallichatti guy. No doubt another dead end though. Nobody else knew anything, so why would he? Now there's some bit about an explosion at house Jeggare. If I had to guess I'd say it was Lugen. So what do we actually know....

Adrien pulls out some parchment, and a writing tool, writing out a web of intrigue. Lugen is at the center, with his alter ego's surrounding him. In the center, he marks that Lugen is a confirmed Hellknight. Each of these ego's is attached to one of the others with no memory. Adrien leaves room for Mallichatti so he can hear his side of the story. Adrien knows that at least two others serve the Hellknights, and so probably had the closest access to Lugen. I was closer to Jeggare though, so how did I get mixed in this? Off to the side, Adrien makes a note of the explosion, with no connections. I know I'll have to deal with whoever caused this, but I don't dare connect my name to this event yet. So now all we're missing is Lugen's motivation. That will come with time I'm sure, but we have to make sure that it's not too much time. Whatever he's planning, he can't see it through.

Adrien sets down his pen, and hides the web. He'll get his gear with him again, and head out to see what else he can find out about the explosion.

gm:
Molos was done browsing, it was time to go back to hellknight HQ.

For reference,
Molos and Sydney are both at about 9 pm on day two.
Adrien is at about 8pm
Vince is between 4 and 5
Mallichatti is at about noon

Nightfall is at about 730 pm

Adrien:
Where would you like to investigate?

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
Malichatti does something insane. He asks for directions to House Jeggare.

Male Elvish Dhampir, 53/53HP, +4 Init, +3 BAB, +3 CMB, +17 CMD, F +3, R +10, W +4 (+6 vs mind effects), AC 21, Touch 15, FF 17, 4d6 Sneak Attack, Prestidigitation 3/3, Mage Armor 2/2, Poison Use, Death Attack Rogue(Sniper) 5, Assassin 1

GM:
Head towards the slums, where we were searching for Lugen earlier.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
"I'm not sure either. I know other people have been put in the same situation as I have though. Which is the perplexing part. He's trying to play us all somehow. But I can't find any real connection between us. Different House affiliations, or none at all. It's... perplexing. My only real thought is that he's gone rouge somehow. Working for somebody else. But I wouldn't even begin to know how to go about finding that out. Subterfuge and intrigue aren't my specialties," I sigh and rub my face.

"But anyway, can you tell me anything helpful now?"

Mallichatti:
You obtain easily enough, most people just point to the tallest building on the nearby skyline, and follow them just as easily. House Jeggare is the 3rd tallest building in Egorian, coming in a 1 foot shorter than the Imperial Palace and Thrune Manor. When you reach it, you see notice a few things. A sign in the front of the house directs "Jeggare business" to the side entrance to the house. There is also a large stone building next door that is labeled as the Bank of Jeggare. Finally, you notice a stone building that is in ruins and has char marks on the stones that are still standing.

Adrien:
You wander the slums with a grave look on your face. You see many street urchins lurking in the alleyways but they avoid you. Woudl you like to search for an hour (perception check) or ask around (knowledge local or diplomacy)?

Vince:
When I was a scribe and working my way up to being a lawyer, I was brought to witness a contract negotiation for House Sarini and the devils under the mountain. There were two other scribes and a negotiator. The negotiator and the devil conducted their business behind a screen so that we could not learn the identity of either. Though Thrune's contract states that Sarini's contract can only last for one year before it can be renewed, the negotiator and the devil labored every point, every amount of compensation, every detail about mercenary business and such. It flowed so quickly, and we were forced to write as it happened, that I can honestly say I can remember barely any of the contract itself. And that's as much as I know about contracts.

Molos:
What would you like to do at the Hell Knight HQ

male tiefling

gm:
Meet with Gregorvich to figure out what to do next

Molos:
The clerk informs you that Gregorvich has already left for the night.

Sydney:
You notice the same teifling return around 9 pm and enter the Hell Knight fortress.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
Malichatti circles the house seeing if there's been any repair work done. Is there a fence around the building that might have been damaged in the explosion? How far do the char marks go roughly away from the main house? Are there any guards by the door and how do they look in terms of alertness right now?

Hp 27/27 AC 17 / 17 / 10 (+3 Perc; +4 Init; Fort +5, Ref +6, Will +4)

DM:
this is still not the Tiefling i am looking for.

Mallichatti:
There was not a fence but there is a line tape that surrounds the area. The building that is damaged is about fifty feet from the main Jeggare building and farther still from the bank. The blast threw some of the stone work as far as ten feet from the outer walls. The stones that have been thrown all have burn marks on them. There are two guards standing watch, in white and purple uniforms. The symbols on the coats match the symbols on curtains hung around the exterior of the Jeggare manor. Right now one of the guards is talking to a man in red and black cloak. There are numerous other bystanders milling around the building ruins.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:

Two rolls. First to try and listen in on the conversation at the door without getting their attention.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 Perception

Second roll is to determine a few things about the building that was blown up.

1. What was the original purpose of the building based on its design?
2. How powerful would the explosion need to be to cause that kind of damage from the inside (looking for relatives here like what would that type of explosion be able to do to the hosue beside it if it went off in there)?

1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 Knowledge Engineering

Mallichatti:
With the crowd gathered you can hear the conversation without being noticed. The Hell Knight is repeatedly asking the guards for information as to what happened and the guards are not answering. Knowledge checks are hard because you have only memories from your childhood. The distance these stones were thrown would indicate a force like nothing you've ever seen before (meaning with your childhood memories). You do not have an idea of what the building was used for.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
What does the hellknight look and sound like. Youngish?

Mallichatti:
It is a human in his young twenties

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
Welp, being in Cheliax and harassing a HEllknight is likely to earn me the beating of a lifetime. But, I don't know that IC so let the hilarity ensue!

Stepping forward just a bit MAlichatti calmly addresses the Hellknight. "Not that I want to get in the way of your duties but this guy doesn't know anything. He wasn't even there that night and even than he was likely ordered not to even talk about it am I right? You can just nod." Malichatti says turning from the hellknight to the guard.

male tiefling

gm:
Molos proceeds back to the inn to get a nights rest

Mallichatti:
The Hell Knight doesn't look at you, but maintains his gaze on the guards. These two know something and I intend to find it. Otherwise they will be strung up for impeding an investigation of the Hell Knights. The two guards stand straight at the comment.

Molos:
Adrien had said to meet up at midnight in the in. Will you stay up that late?

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
"I agree. Take them in give them over to a priest in an iron mask and try to pick out the confessions from the screams and cries for mercy. After that you can hang them for obstruction of your duty and you still won't find out anything more after that than you will right now. Except, I doubt you'll do that cause I'm sure a superior would crawl up your ass boot first after you found out nothing and wasted time on two guards who weren't here that night." Mallichatti smiles and croses his arms. "Again, not to tell you how to do your job Sir but if House Jegarre didn't want you to find out about their business they wouldn't stick the staff that worked that night conveniently in front of you on the street. But, hey, feel free to question them in front of the entire city. At least the crowd will be entertained."

Mallichatti:
The man turns with an angry look starts, How dare you speak to me as if- The man cuts off. Sergeant Cervagio, I did not realize it was you. The man looks between you and the two guards and then at the crowd. If you are here then I believe I am relieved. Good day, Seargeant. The man snaps a salute and stalks off.

male tiefling

gm:
Yes

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
"Interesting. Would you know anybody that could tell me more? Or perhaps a skilled guardsman that could give me a rundown on how they're typically guarded. Other than by a devil of course."

Vince:
I do not know or know of anyone that could fullfill either request. Understandably these things are kept secret.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
"I would imagine so, yes. Well. Guess I'm still at a loss then. Thanks though. Let me know if that next job comes through," I give him a nod. Well, that's certainly given me a deal of information to sort through. I'm pretty hungry, and there's still plenty of time before I have to meet the others, so next on the agenda is to acquire food and cogitate. Sounds pleasantly relaxing. Might as well go to the inn I guess. Less walking in the long run.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
Watching the man stalk off Mallichatti doesn't react until he leaves. Sergeant? That was useful information. So other HEllknights might recognize me eh? And some rank as well. I'll ahve to be careful not to over step my bounds. Turning back to the guards he addresses them. "Well, I guess it's just me and you then. I seriously doubt it was that welp's job to sit here and chat with you so I've just got one question. After that I'll leave you to your business and you can go home tonight to exaggerate a tale about how you single handedly halted two hellknights form entering the premises. Were you here the night of the explosion? Just shake your heads."

mallichatti:
They both shake their heads.

Vince:
You arrive at the inn around 7 pm. You do not recognize any of the other patrons.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
"Now that was painless wasn't it? Of course if it turns out you lied about it later it will be extremely unpleasant for you. So give that some thought tonight. In the mean time I think I'm going to admire the river view from the bank"

Going to the river bank Mallichatti takes care to look around the riverbank to see what is there to be seen.

Mallichatti:
The bank I mentioned in the desc is a financial institution. The river that fuels Lake Sorrow is nearby and there is an extensive loading dock near House Jeggare. It is probably 200-300 feet from the charred building.

Barbarian 7 AC:19, HP:66/66 (46/78), Fire Resist 2, DR 3/-, Reach

GM:
Sorry misread that. Oh well he's still going over by the "bank" to admire the view of the river. Which is to say there is no river.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM:
It takes me a bit to get back to the inn, and my hunger has grown exponentially during my walk. A quick glance determines that none of the others are here yet, so I order a sizable meal and dig in, glad I have a chance to eat and think before having to deal with people again.

I'm just gonna chill there until everybody returns.

Mallichatti:
The bank is a huge building of stone with a lone entrance in the front and two white and purple liveried guards at the entrance.

Molos and Vince:
At about 9 30 pm Molos enters the inn. Vince is already present.

GM:
If everybody keeps running away from me, it could be very difficult to ask questions. I'll make a perception check. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15

Adrien:
You prowl the slums, occasionally spotting the Hell Knight patrols, but see only one tiefling and he has to horns. It is not that people are running from you, just avoiding it. It is now 10 PM the deadline to meet with Molos was midnight. You can keep searching or try to ask around, or any other action

GM:
I'll ask the tiefling what he knows, offering 10GP for his information. Whatever he gives me, I'll continue to ask around until 11 then head back to the inn (or until I have enough time to safely make it back).

Adrien:

Adrien:
The teifling says he knows who Lugen is, and that Lugen is often seen around here checking up on the patrols. The teifling has not seen Lugen in the past few days. Any others that you ask refuse to speak or tell you about the same. Frustrated you return to the inn at Midnight. Molos and Vince will be at the inn when you arrive but i want to give them a chance to interact before i introduce you.

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

GM & Molos:
I'm leaning back in my chair, eyes half closed, digesting and thinking, when I see Molos walk in. I sigh inwardly and brace myself for abrasiveness.

"Oy!" I call to him, waving and indicating the other chairs at my table.

GM and Vince:
Molos walked over to the motioned chairs and sat down. So what have you found out

Male Human Fighter 8/Ranger 12

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Checking if anybody's close enough to overhear us/actively observing us.

If I don't notice anything:
"Not much that's particularly useful, but it helps narrow some things down. The most important thing is that we were taken about a week ago. No more than two. Or at least I was. Maybe it was different for each of us," I lean forward, resting my elbows on the table and steepling my fingers just under my chin, "The ball's tomorrow. Could possibly find some more information there. At the very least free food and booze," I grin, "I also found another one of us. Lost his memory and met Lugen. I sent him off to try and investigate the explosion at House Jeggare. Hopefully he'll turn up something. I'll probably be working for one side or another once they get their act together and figure out how to retaliate about the explosion, so I'd like some information to work with," I pause, trying to think of anything else I learned.

"Oh right! Lugen is 'officially' an assassin for the Hellknights. He's apparently something of a rival of mine in the biz. So there's possibly some motivation there. I don't know if the rest of us have some sort of connection to him, but if so, that could be how we were selected. And it does slightly narrow down who he's really working for, cause I'd put money that it's not the Hellknights. Too obvious, and not their style anyway. They're pretty strict. He seems much more flexible than they would really allow," I lean back again, rolling my neck around. I felt good for some reason. I guess it's cause we were making progress. Getting things done. Catching up. It's good.

"My suggestion for our next steps is twofold. First thing is try and get back into where we were kept, see what all is actually going on there. Can do that tomorrow morning. Probably send the elf fellow, Adrian? He seems a stealthy sort. While he's doing that, I'll research contracts and devils as much as possible. There's bound to be an expert somewhere around here. It seems to be the theme of this country," I chuckle sardonically, "And since you seem to love messing with people's minds so much, you could nab some security firm guy. Try and learn where a contract would normally be kept and the kinds of defenses it would have. I think locating them will be the hard part. Evasion is the best defense after all. I hate to say it, but for the time being we'll have to go along with Lugen's little scheme. Reclaiming my memory is too important to me," I sigh and rub my eyes, a little frustrated. I think that was everything though.

Then it suddenly hits me. I've already started thinking of this as my team. That's an... unnerving thought. I don't even like this guy. I'd go so far as to say I actively dislike him. But I'm still trusting him with all this. In all probability, it's entirely likely that I could take care of all of this on my own. I certainly wouldn't make that my first choice, way too many unknowns for that, but then again, they're one of those unknowns. It seems my instincts tend towards teamwork. Did I used to be part of a unit maybe? Jamie didn't mention any partners, but neither did I, so he had no real reason to. Crap. I need to watch myself. The only thing binding us is merely situational circumstance. The more I realize how trapped I am, the more impressed slash irritated I become with Lugen. He's good. We don't have much of a choice but to work together, but we'll all be so suspicious that we won't work together well. Easy targets. And even knowing all that, I still am reserved. Damn damn damn. I realize I'm jigging my leg in frustration, and pull myself together.

"But anyway, you learned anything useful?"

male tiefling

If Vince doesn't notice anything

GM and Vince:
I learned that I worked as a information extractor for the Hellknights, to be precise the Order of the Scourge. I also learned that I am apparentally a rare resource amoung the hellknights, in effect I have enough pull to convince their commander or I should say my employer, Gregorvich to assist me. Lugen has been hard to find however he is aware of my plans for him. For I intend to capture him alive and rip out every single detail from his mind.

As for this ball I believe we should not go as ourselves, something tells me that this ball is a trap. We should go as minor nobility or distingushed merchants so that we don't attract attention. Once we have infiltrated the ball we should then proceed to lure Lugen outside, as I am willing to bet that if we can put him in the right spot he will be easy to capture. As for this devil I have a lead to finding it, this is assuming we can find a member of the Order of the Gate.
