Liberty's Edge

A quick search of the archer ( I am assuming a detect magic would be thrown in here) reveal 5 stoppered containers of different liquids and the cloak also shows magic. You also note that though not magical the chain shirt, wooden shield scimitar and composite short bow all seem very well made. 89 gold pieces round out the lot.

More questions than answers I am afraid. How are you making your way to the dressmakers house? Who is moving who? Tkurzhan has Elinor, and Harlynn is borne by Seneca. Pluchak?

The trip to the dressmakers home is made without further assault, but the ghoul things follow the party, leaping and gamboling from rooftop to rooftop. As the home is reached Narnel realizes that a 4th ghoul has joined and the unholy screaming continues unabated.

Who is going up (assuming anyone is) and who is staying on the ground?

Narnel scrambles back up to the second floor. All his companions stay below. The ghouls circle and screech and look for an opening but so far none is offered.

I have returned, and we have collected the children from the Inn. Can you come out and make a run for the barricades with all of us. They await within earshot!

Tanzi calls out, Let's go, the Hell Knights have returned. Elton help me with him.[/c] A moment later Narnel hears something being dragged from the door, the bar being moved from the door, and locks clicking. The door opens in, and as it does he can see gossamyr and golden strands securing the door. These seem to have the strength of spider-web and snap without resistance. Those splintered strands take the shape of fireflies and these blink for moments and then they are gone, though as before if they cease to exist or simply have hidden thier light is not clear.

As the survivors exit Narnel nearly gags on their odor. Tanzi has strong features and a hard look. She is off average height and build and something about her seems familiar, but enough on that for now.

Elton is strong, wiry and has hollow eyes and sunken cheeks. Becca is an older woman whose countenance speaks of horror she never will. Elton and Tanzi carry a blanket with a dead gnome on it. Dead... No he moved, but the stench on him is not of uncleanliness, but of the grave. His eyes are sunken. He clutches a lance to his chest and wears a helmet.

Elton lowers himself quickly and then works at getting the gnome down. Tanzi and Elton help Becca and then Tanzi descends, with a last look at the room that had been prison and salvation for so long. They readily accept any help offered, but also seem to function fairly well without, if none is offered.

Between Becca and Tanzi, they have 1 Cure Serious Wounds, 1 Cure Moderate Wounds and 3 Cure Light Wounds that they are willing to cast on the party. You choose distribution, but the women seem to have a preference for helping the unconscious.

The gnome stares at Taedric.

Once the spells have been cast, Tanzi looks at Narnel and asks,

Well met, even under these dire circumstances. I am somewhat surprised to find a fellow gnome here, much less a fellow rider.

Taedric waits for a response for a moment, and then turns his head towards Narnel, and asks in a cheery tone, "Are we all going together, then, or would it make more sense to send out a group of our swiftest to try to harry or, better, lead the dead away from those we're bringing back to safety?"

And yes, before you ask, I do realize that would likely be me, but I swore an oath to protect the innoncent..

Both Taedric and Trumps are sitting on their last 12hp -- of 30 for the cavalier and of 24 for the wolf

After Taedrics brief words, the gnome suddenly decomposes. In the blink of an eye he looks like a corpse dead for 6 months. The smell and sight are terrible.

Elton turns and stares blankly, and Becca turns and wretches. Tanzi tells you, Since he was with us, he never said a word, nor did he eat. Our magic would not heal him and day after day and night after night he lay mute with his eyes open. Who or what was he? She brushes a tear from her cheek.

Aidan is really pretty fine actually, and in fact will roll some heal checks to treat deadly wounds if there is an hour or so of spare time. Additionally, Elinor, I'm afraid he would have stripped you at the first opportunity. For healing purposes, of course...

Aidan, unaffected by the stench, his expression one of contemplation as he tries to determine what is familiar about this hard-featured girl.

He waves away any offer to help, directing any attention to Pluchak, Elinor and Harlynn; My comrades have aided myself and you with their sacrifice, it is due time they be repaid.

So Aidan and Bryndyn are excusing themselves from the healing boons. I imagine Abbas would as well. Any other input?

While the party discusses thier next move, Elton takes a rock and throws it at a ghoul. His voice is a growl. Shutup or I'll shut ye, up!

Sadly the dark and the angle and at this point, just fatigue hamper Narnels shot. What a day this has been and it is not over yet.

Seeing the walking step back from he aid, Becca and Tanzi start to hurriedly examine the fallen. They cast the Cure Serious Wounds on Elinor exclaiming, This one is near dead!. The Cure Moderate Wounds goes to Harlynn and Pluchak receives one of the Cure Light Wounds.

When the kids see these survivors Becca and 'Neeki rush and embrace. Apparently they are aunt and niece.

Quick question: How negotiable are the rooftops? can I get all the way to the barricade from up there, taking pot shots as I go? Or, are the buildings not really close enough together to advance along the roofs?

There are sections that are close enough to do just that, but there also some wider areas that would need to be traversed. Keep in mind that the ghoul things seem to have insect-like ability to climb and hold on. Which is not me saying Narnel would think it is impossible, just that they would have an advantage.

Elinor lies there, still apparently dead, for a few long seconds then opens one eye which she immediately shuts again. When she opens her eyes she glances around and takes in as much of the scene as she can without moving.

One hand closes around the hilt of her sword whose wrist loop prevented her losing it in the journey, the other vainly tries to find her shield. She tries to lift her head, winces and leaves it where it is. With her free hand she checks as much of her body as she can for missing pieces and presses it against the wreckage of her breastplate, the steel bent and warped by the force of the zombie's blow.

"My t*ts haven't hurt as much since I had a bairn attached to them!"

She tries again to lift her head and makes a better job of it this time, but is still reluctant to actually stand. She wipes some of the tiger-drool from her helmet.

"That would have been a fine death. If I now trip and impale myself on a fence post I'm coming back to haunt you!"

She tries to whistle a cheery refrain, but it just comes out a breathy sigh.

"I suppose a tankard of ale is a bit unlikely right now?"

Whichever of Harlynn and Pluchak is the least conscious gets their brow mopped to the tune of 'Always look on the bright side of life'.

At zero, you're staggered unless there is a coming back from negative rule I'm forgetting. You can take a move action or a standard action, but any standard action causes you to lose a hit point and start bleeding out again (unless it is a standard action that provides healing). I'd recommend we give two of those CLW to Pluchak and hopefully we'll have one left to put Harlynn in better shape. And let's get the hell out of here!
