Darn it!!! I am making this hard! I have a kid hugging Harlynn, when I meant to have typed Seneca. Kids are still below, Harlynn is on top. Sadie is hugging Seneca. So sorry!
At Narnels words the boy raises his crossbow towards Narnel, but 'Neeki scolds him, Damn it Jess, stop being an ass. There are just us 3. Do we need supplies? There is lots of stuff back there.

Taedric Starfell |

Taedric curses as the archer runs into a building, I should run that bastard down..., snarling that he had the good sense to step carefully out of the gnome's reach.
He directs Trumps to attack the zombie next to him, trying to pull it down.
Trumps (bite): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 and Free Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
That looks largely positive...
Taedric directs Trumps to step back carefully, at least ruining the archer's line of sight, before adding a blow from his hammer to Trumps' strike against the corpse, and smiling at the satisfying crunch his weapon makes.
Lucern Hammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 Doesn't look like I need the +4 vs. prone for 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11 Bludgeon/Piercing

Taedric Starfell |

You can't have him! He's mine!

![]() |

Thanks Bryn, I had not noticed that one.
Harlynn, overwhelmed by the ferocity of the dead man heads back toward the inn.
Taedrics revulsion is dealt with in a more direct fashion. The wold drops the zombie and the gnome bashes his skull. Stay down the thinks, but alas, this abomination rises again. If only Taedrics weapons had their full impact.
Seneca looks to Narnel confused. He has gone from mortal danger to being hugged by a dirty blond urchin. The bolt in his chest hurts like hell, and though he will go on, now seems like a great time for a break.
Bryndyn swings again. Gamels hammer had felt so unfamiliar in his hands, but now, now he felt the balance of the thing, and he was starting to understand why its previous owner favored it. He hits the dead man in front of him with a staggering blow. Enough to kill a normal man, but not enough to kill this man again.
While Taedrics opponent rises up Bryndyns and Abbas try to hit them and the one that sought Harlynns life is so desperate for that meal that he leaves himself wide open for Aidan and Bryndyn to hit him as he struggles through.
Taedric Bryndyn and Aidan please make an AoO against the running zombies. I will make the zombie attack rolls after you have made your rolls.
1d20 ⇒ 7

Narnel Falerathon |

We need to get out of this Inn, now, Seneca. Our friends can maybe heal you once we rejoin them. Come, children.
@Sigil: How long will it take Seneca and I to double time out of there?

Taedric Starfell |

Lucern Hammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 for 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

![]() |

[dice=Defensive AoO] 1d20 +1-4;1d6
I find it amusing that Aidan subtracted 8 points from his die roll...and only added 2...whereas I added 6 and still had a lower roll. It's good to be 'back' heh

![]() |

Taedric connects, but curses whatever it is that stops him from hurting this creature. The fury of the zombie by Bryndyn and Aidan prevents all but a glancing blow from Aidan that seems to have no effect either.
Taedrics foe rises to continue its onslaught, and moving like runaway horse, and smelling like a charnel house another of the dead continues his pursuit of Harlynn.
Both of them are hit. Harlynn crumbles to the ground. His wounds are serious. Taedric avoids what could have been a fatal blow, but it hurts like hell none the less. Bryndyn and Abbas are both more fortunate and the blows aimed for them miss entirely.
Harlynn takes 8 points and Taedric takes 7. Abbas is up. Narnel, you are looking at 2 focused rounds to get back up, more if anything happens.

![]() |

Abbas changes tack and goes on the offensive against the fetid ghoul and its claws and teeth. He then steps back towards the alleyway opposite, buying the others just a fraction more time.
Left dagger to right eye 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, right dagger to left eye 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 then twist out

Narnel Falerathon |

Narnel has his bow drawn and his arrow notched as he moves quickly towards the others near the Inn's entrance. If there are no impediments, he will stealthily assume a sniping position to provide ranged cover for his comrades when he arrives in another round.
He looks back over his shoulder in route.
Kids, ready those crossbows and stay hidden when we get up top. Fire at the zombies if you can.

Taedric Starfell |

Taedric snarls as the zombie strikes him, and calls the mindless thing out, issuing a challenge.
He directs Trumps to attack the zombie next to him, trying to pull it down.
Trumps (bite): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 and Free Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Taedric, bolstered by his challenge, brings the heavy hammer down on the zombie, hoping to follow up Trumps strike against the corpse, Desna, lend me a touch of your luck....
Lucern Hammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 [+4 vs. prone, thankfully] for 1d10 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 3 = 6
Taedric:
Actions: Swift: Challenge; Standard: Attack
HP: 12/30
AC 17, Touch 12, Flat-footed 15 -- CMD 14
Readied Weapon: Lucern Hammer (1d10+1/x2) {Reach, Piercing/Bludgeon, Set against charge}
Trumps:
Actions: Full-Round: Withdraw (Allows up to double move, though archer is within 50')
HP: 12/24
AC 20, Touch 14, Flat-footed 16 --- CMD 18 (22 vs trip)
Mounted Combat (if Trumps is attacked, to avoid it): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

![]() |

Abbas avoids the flailing, blocking arms of the ghoul thing and pushes one of his daggers into it. This thing was once a man. The blow does little to anything to stop its attack.
While its fellows try to reach it to give aid, the ghoul Abbas just hit tries to return the favor. Luckily for the big man, effort is not enough, it will also take some skill and some luck and the ghoul does not hit.
Sadie all but wants to trip Seneca she is staying so close. She does not have her weapon, but does that really matter? 'Neeki is quick and strong and offers assurance to Seneca that it is just these 3 and then she has constant encouragement for the group while Jess seems to think this is a terrible plan. In fact, there is little he is not complaining about.
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan and Pluchak. Aidan you are up. The big cat is on his way back to your position.

![]() |

Sigil - I'm assuming Bryndyn does not know that Harlynn has gone down. According to the map, he's around the corner...argh!
His friends are hurt all around him. Those in the Inn are still missing. Somehow, Bryndyn stands unharmed and furious. Sweat seeps out of his pores and emits a smell that connotes the swamp and rage and frustration. Ichor drips from his mace where he has connected several times now. He faces the zombie that swiped at him and swings, hoping to finally break free of these things and help those who have fallen.
Attack 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 = 14
Damage 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7

![]() |

Don't forget to plan a move in case it does go down...
(Mysterious hissing whisper into Bryn's ear).
Unspoken, but no less vital, is Bryndyn's plan to move in case the zombie goes down :)

![]() |

In this scene the part of Pinocchio's conscience will be played by Elinor. :) It is doubtful you would know that Harlynn is down.
Aidans hounds are smart. Smart enough to target the thinking dead over the mindless dead. One hits and one doesn't, and the ghoul thing stays standing.
Aidan continues his aid of Bryndyn and succeeds in giving him a measure more protection from the fiend that presses at him.
From the building with the archer there is a terrible noise. Indeed it sounds like someone is throwing furniture. There is no sight of the man though, just the racket.
Down below, Narnel and Seneca continue to help the children forward. (Sadie needs to stop clinging and start running and Jess needs to be quiet.) The dog Aidan summoned runs point, but has encountered no obstacle so far.
Harlynn's quiet struggle to between 2 worlds ebbs slowly toward the next one and away from this one.
Trumps again trips the dead, and Taedric again hurts it. It needs to stop moving! But alas it tries to rise again.
Bryndyn hits the dead with stunning force, but it keeps coming!
The dead meanwhile continue their press. Bryndyns idle thought becomes curse as one of the dead men hits him. The force of the blow is stunning! Luckily for the others, no one else is hit.
Taedric, one AoO please. Bryndyn takes 10 points of damage.
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan and Pluchak. Abbas it is your go.

Taedric Starfell |

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 for 1d10 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 3 = 6
Apparently I can't roll better than 3 on d10. Yeeesh.

![]() |

Abbas concentrates on the ghoul with its feral bite a nasty threat. He stabs for the heart twice.
Left dagger to heart 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, right dagger to heart 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 = 14, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Then he steps back five feet to move the ghoul away from the others a little. But inside he feels that those poor attacks could be fatal.

![]() |

Abbas' warrior instinct is well tuned and indeed, he knows this foe is done before it does. The blade bites well and though the creature flails mightily it is for naught and it falls still.
Those does not deter the other ghoul things that race and skitter on all fours towards the heroes.
The 3 kids stay close to Narnel and Seneca and offer them no trouble (except for Jess' constant complaining.)
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan and Pluchak. Aidan you are up. Tkurzhan will be use his turn to finish closing the distance to here.

![]() |

Sadly, the help of the otherworldly dogs ends, and they disappear as if they had never been there. Aidan's defensive stance is warranted. More so when you consider the shamblers now moving out of the night towards you. These move more like the group you dodged here not so long ago, but thankfully there are not as many. Still... That feeling that you were getting ahead of this situation is less justified now.
The noise in the archers building continues.
Narnel and Seneca continue their desperate push upward.Coming to the door they see Harlynn dead on the ground. No, not dead, but the way his vitae pools in crimson, he will not last long. The others are not seen, but there in the night ominous figures shamble towards the inn.
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan, shamblers and Pluchak. Taedtric and Bryndyn, what are your actions?

Taedric Starfell |

Taedric still doesn't know things have changed, sadly... soo...
Taedric curses as the thing keeps getting back up, Lady, don't let this be our last hand..., he thinks, and directs the wolf to strike once more.
Trumps (bite): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 and Free Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
They carefully step back and Taedric brings down his hammer on the object of his challenge, hoping to finally end this.
Lucern Hammer: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 (Hopefully +4 vs. prone?) for 1d10 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 1 + 3 = 9
Taedric:
Actions: Standard: Attack
HP: 12/30
AC 17, Touch 12, Flat-footed 15 -- CMD 14
Readied Weapon: Lucern Hammer (1d10+1/x2) {Reach, Piercing/Bludgeon, Set against charge}
Trumps:
Actions: Standard: Attack; 5' step afterward.
HP: 12/24
AC 20, Touch 14, Flat-footed 16 --- CMD 18 (22 vs trip)
Mounted Combat (if Trumps is attacked, to avoid it): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

![]() |

when it is Bryndyn's turn to continue his attack...
Attack 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 1 = 13
Damage 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
Bryndyn's goal is to stay between as many of the zombies and any non-combatants (or hurt friends) as he can, actively shifting to make it difficult for them to get around him.

![]() |

Trumps brings the dead man to the ground and Taedric brings the hammer down again, and this time Desna answers. The dead mans head breaks open and he jerks for a second or 2 and then ceases to move.
In a compliment to that good news Bryndyn brings his mace down hard and it has a similar impact. Now he is harried by just one of these things.
The running dead do not have enough sense to retreat or to regroup but merely press their mindless assault. It is for naught, as they cannot harm the heroes.
Seneca, sadly there has been no rest yet.
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan, shamblers and Pluchak. Abbas is up.

Taedric Starfell |

Better late than never?

![]() |

Using the last round map- it looks like there is a zombie on Abbas still.
The warrior raises both daggers in a swinging circle and then jabs them forwards into the creatures face. Then he moves a few paces towards Pluchak.
Full round action left dagger 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, right dagger 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, and then five foot step to the north.
One dagger gets caught on a sleeve but the other strikes home. Abbas keeps a watchful eye all around.

![]() |

Abbas' knife goes in and out, but the dead man seems unfazed.
The ghouls continue their skittering run from the south toward the heroes.
Jess looks at Harlynn, and then at the shamblers and says I think we were better off hidden. You guys suck at this.
'Neeki glares at him but says nothing.
Combat order: Archer, Narnel, Harlynn, Taedric, Seneca, Bryndyn, running dead, Abbas, Elinor, ghoul things, children, Aidan, Tkurzhan, shamblers and Pluchak. Aidan and Tkurzhan are up. Please note that Tkurzhan is back on the map and under Aidans control.

Aidan Ayrvar |

Aidan glares at the big cat with combined relief and exasperation.
Everyone regroup, on me! To me! To me! the druid cries, and Tkurzhan, at least, answers. When he arrives Aidan inclines his head at Elinor, and the limp battlemaid finds herself hefted like a kitten in the cat's jaws.
Aidan does a quick headcount.
Can I see Taedric and/or Harlynn? Pluchak is down, Elinor is down and carried... Seneca, Narnel, Abbas and myself are at the entrance.

Taedric Starfell |

Does Taedric hear the call?

Taedric Starfell |

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Taedric spits on the dead form for good measure, then his ears perk up as he hears Aidan calling him back. He wheels Trumps around and heads back toward the group, narrowing his eyes as he sees there's a corpse attacking Bryn, rushing in to strike it with his hammer.
Fortunately, a straight charge line exists -- Taedric moves 45' east, and strikes from reach.
Charge (Lucerne Hammer): 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 4 = 16 for 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
He smiles and says, "You called?"
Taedric:
Actions: Standard: Attack
HP: 12/30
AC 17, Touch 12, Flat-footed 15 -- CMD 14 No AC penalty on charge, but no shield
Readied Weapon: Lucern Hammer (1d10+1/x2) {Reach, Piercing/Bludgeon, Set against charge}
Trumps:
Actions: Standard: Attack; 5' step afterward.
HP: 12/24
AC 18, Touch 12, Flat-footed 14 --- CMD 18 (22 vs trip) Includes -2 for charge
Mounted Combat (if Trumps is attacked, to avoid it): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Seneca Lucianus |

Ok, we'll do this the non-magical way then. I might be a little early then, but...
Seneca calls out, "Silence Jess. They'd find you eventually. We'll get out and get him out too." The cleric listens for the sounds of battle elsewhere and calls out, "Harlynn is down but still alive. I'm going to see if I can do something for him."
Heal to help stabilize 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Aidan Ayrvar |

I can Pass Without Trace three people unless we've leveled. Tkurzhan and myself are permanently untraceable, Elinor counts as gear at the moment, Trumps is carrying Taedric. Here's my plan: Obscuring Mist followed by Pass Without Trace on Narnel, Seneca, Abbas, (or another three man combo, ideally stealthy) then we need to split up unfortunately. One group must lay a false trail while the other makes their way to the others. The false trail group needs to be fast, maneuverable, and stealthy, or else capable of laying false tracks (survival, stealth, lightly armored) I'm thinking Taedric, Trumps, Bryndyn, and probably unconscious Harlynn (on Trumps?) as well as Tkurzhan carrying Elinor. I'll go with the group to rescue the people, as I can turn my footprints on and off.

Aidan Ayrvar |

Is there a heal check that can duplicate smelling salts? Negative but conscious? I know they get con checks every hour to wake up, and treating deadly wounds takes an hour, so if we get a quiet hour I can try that. It'll only heal 3 hp though.
