Via your Perception Check you notice that the Nomads are eating some kind of porridge made of dried chick peas or some sort of lentils boiled in some water; they have no meat to share (or are unwilling to share/sell) but they will share some of the lentils without cost.

Accepting the proffered porridge, Tairin bowed her head, "Thank you for your generosity this night." Bear will not be happy that there is no meat, but he cannot be so particular at such an hour or in such a place as this.

Tairin's dark eyes took in the loner, wondering why he preferred keeping his face hidden behind the scarves. She singularly pondered where he could have come from.

"Bear has a tent which allows two to sleep within. I possess a waterproof cloak, bedding and fur blanket. Still, it would be better if we could find a sheltered place, with overhead cover against the rain, if indeed it falls this night."

As Red had already introduced them by name, Tairin simply added, a polite smile gracing her lips,

"Greetings, Priest Bahram Khan. May the brightest Star in the Sky bless you and your caravan," and then gave a graceful bow as was deemed appropriate when in the presence of high-ranking priests. Slight Ret-con

Tairin of the Veils wrote:

Response:

It’s not easy to judge based on what you’re seeing; his skin seems to be olive colored, but that could be simply heavily tanned for long travel, but he’s clearly not from Azimba or the lands further south. Unfortunately, his eyes are hard to gauge in the firelight; they are not brown or black, you’re not sure what color, but you think he may come from mixed blood.

One thing you notice easily is his gear, though. Laying near to him is a bow, and nestled around his waist is a quiver. As you look at the bow you notice that the grip seems to be off-centered.

Specifically – the part of the bow below the grip is much shorter than the part above the grip. You’ve seen this style of bow before, and the fact that he also carries a quiver at his side (rather than his back) seems to confirm your hunch on why he would have such a bow.

From what you’ve seen, archers with an asymmetrical bow have great ease firing it from a sitting position; either while kneeling behind a crouched area and hidden, or while firing it from horseback. Carrying arrows at your hip make it easier to draw them when the archer is not standing. In short; this man is not merely using a basic hunting bow – he has a bow designed from either shooting from horseback or shooting while being concealed.

Style of bow - Here –

The man says nothing as you study him; he merely returns your gaze, his eyes never flinching. It should be noted that even during a casual glance it is clear he has a long, curved blade at his side which reminds you of a kukri. It is not clear if he’s wearing armor, though; his robes conceal this feature.

The man watches her; his eyes roving over Red’s gear. They seem to focus on the type of clothing, the state of the clothing and the general appearance of how Red carries herself. He nods his head in courtesy.

Tairin of the Veils wrote:

Diplomacy with Bahram Khan 24

The man’s eyes flick to Tairin and his eyes take in the same details, though at Tairin’s courtesy he seems to have reached a conclusion about the two of you and nods his head almost imperceptibly.

”It is a pleasure to know you both better, goodly Seer, and you as well, Lady Tairin. I am delighted to make the acquaintance of two such cultured travelers in this barren, desolate place,” he says with another bow.

”Please, will you not join me for some modest refreshment? Though the Great Father has lowered to embrace the great Earth Mother it is not yet so late that we cannot speak like civilized people,” he adds, then motions for you both to sit.

Though his words seem to be meant for both of you it’s clear his focus is now on Tairin, as if he gauges her to be the more refined or wealthy of the two women before him – at the least, the more powerful.

This is likely a result of your Diplomacy Check wit him.

When you are both seated he sits across from you and offers you the plates with the figs and dates.

”A thousand apologies that I do not have more cups so that we may all share alike. Yet it is of my mind that I shall at least pour a drink for you both so that you may wash away the dust from parched throats and enjoy something more refreshing than the fecund water found in the stones in the camp beyond,” he adds, then pours into each cup a rich, purple wine from the pitcher he has.

Refusing the offer of hospitality would generally be seen as insulting, of course…

He leans back and watches you thoughtfully, waiting for you to refresh yourself with his generosity.

When you have had a chance to eat and drink, he continues to speak.

”When my guards informed me that there were two ladies of unimpeachable refinement in this camp I was aghast and intended to scourge them both for such blatant mendacity. Yet now, having seen you both, I curse the fact that I did not take bolder action against those two, for indeed – their words failed to describe to me the truth of your august qualities.”

”Yet do not mistake me! I do not dally with every women whom shines with a luminosity to rival the Great Father himself, yet it is a truth that I yearn to speak to travelers who have learned the gentle art of cultured discourse,” he adds with a modest shrug.

He lets his words hang for a moment and waits as if is waiting for you to offer some courteous response, then, he continues to speak. However, it is clear to you both that while he is speaking to both of you that it's clear his focus seems more on Tairin at this time.

”I am recently returned from pilgrimage Zadj and in the morning I shall continue on to my home in the city of Belthaar. I am curious, if you might forgive such an overly bold query – neither of you have the look of the folk of Susrah, yet by the gracious words of the goodly Seer it is clear that you are journeying to my country. Therefore, I am wondering - what has prompted you on your journey, and what is your destination in the glorious borders of my homeland specifically? Perhaps we may travel together for a time? And while it is clear that I myself can offer you both little but boorish company, I would be humbled if you would allow me to travel with you,” he says with a courteous and relaxed voice as his dark eyes watch you both intently.

Glancing at the sheer cliffs which flank the pass it seems clear that the best solution is to travel somewhat away from the pass past the small scrub until you reach what looks like some trees further down the hill.

Bjoern Ghostbear wrote:
Bjoern looks at Anhur and raises his eyebrow."Why not. Works pretty well. Smelly though. How do you think they make the arena warm?"

As you both are resolved on this, you shoulder your gear and head away from the camp down the trail...

What you see beyond the camp:

There is a clear path that stretches from the pass. The place in the rocks where the water might flow is not as very obvious, except to folk like yourselves who are skilled in woodcraft.

You can see that the main path strikes in a more north-easterly direction to avoid some steeper drops of elevation where the water may have flowed. This puts you at a slight distance from the main trail and prompts you to walk in scrub grass which slows your journey somewhat until you reach a steep dip in elevation which leads down a hill roughly twenty feet tall and has an angle of roughly 60 degrees (it will not require a climb check, but it is considered Difficult Terrain for the journey to the trees).

At the base of this hill you see the trees in a low cluster and you’re able to see the size of the cluster in the moonlight.

It's clear that they cover a good area for terrain like this; roughly a mile or so in circumference. Meanwhile, the dry track which water may have journeyed through is no longer dry. As you reached the bottom of the hill you find a large pool of brackish water and it looks like a small, muddy stream meandering forward through the trees.

As you approach the trees you notice that their height and overhang means if you journey under them it will be almost completely black – as only journeying under fir trees in pale moonlight can be.

As you approach the dark woods you are both startled to see a sudden rush of birds rise from the trees before you. You suspect they may be wary of your approach, though the place where they arose was nearly fifty feet within the borders of the meager forest.

As you consider this you feel a chill wind blow from the mountain pass. You feel it on your backs and you can see the shadowed trees bend somewhat before you as they sway in its chill touch.

"Your polished manners and refined speech reflect a classical education and aristocratic breeding Bahram Khan. I am most flattered and would welcome your company on the trail. Actually I am travelling to further a jihad to re-establish a forbidden religion and avoid execution for murder, but the less Bahram Khan knows about that the betterare the prophetesses thoughts behind her polite face.

She Who Knows raises the cup to her lips but does not drink. She is waiting for Bahram Khan's attention to be drawn to Tairin when she speaks, at which point She Who Knows will develop a slight coughing fit which she will turn away to cover. Then she will cast detect poison.

I don't think Bjoern actually wanted to search for wood; he seemed confident that the dung would suffice. For my part, I spent too much time researching whether he was right, to no avail. The loner would have to wait for now - however Tairin stowed her observations of him for later, private discussion with her three companions.

Bahram Khan wrote:

”Please, will you not join me for some modest refreshment? Though the Great Father has lowered to embrace the great Earth Mother it is not yet so late that we cannot speak like civilized people,” he adds, then motions for you both to sit.

Tairin, holding the covered bowl of porridge given to her by the nomads, picked up a fig and date and placed it atop the linen cloth covering the porridge. She then accepted a cup of the dark wine with the other, without showing outward sign of doubt. Still she was wary and rightly so for why would a man of his position and status lack such triflings like cups.

"The elder of the guards was kind enough to provide a jug of date wine for some coin. You are generous in sharing your refreshment, which leads me into the reason we passed by after conversing with the nearby camel herders." She paused and smiled, and, looking to Red briefly, turned her attention back to the Sun God priest, "There are four of us travelling together - the two males in our party are presently setting up our camp. One is my personal guard who frets if I am gone too long. He's formed an attachment to me, you see. We were seeking to purchase strips of meat and flat bread. Your guard brought us into your khayma for this purpose and so you have our apologies for the intrusion this night."

Lifting the cup of wine she lifted it a little higher and began to gently swirl the dark liquid in hopes of catching a peculiar or sour aroma from within.

Perception via smell for poison/drug: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

It was then she heard Red begin to cough and then Bahram Khan offer his services, "Please do not trouble yourself. The red dust from our travels through the sands have probably lodged in her throat and the cough will pass soon enough. However, you are once again most generous in your regard for our well being." Tairin looked at the man softly, through long dark lashes, hoping to mollify him and redirect his attention so they could finish their conversation and return to Bear and Anhur.

Bahram Khan wrote:

"And, naturally, I am only too delighted to join with you both on the trail; providing, of course, that you both are as eager to travel with me as I with you..." he adds, letting the words hang as his smile widens warmly.

"I believe we are the ones who have been blessed by the brightest star in the sky this night. However, as considerate as your offer is, we travel in a caravan of four and the elder guard has given us clear directions to Belthaar, so we shall find our own way to the city. All my life I have been cossetted by five elder brothers and was not given opportunity to spread my wings before it was my time to wed. I have undertaken this spiritual journey so I may learn more of the world beyond my father's house and may become a better wife to a noble husband of their choosing. So, however considerate your offer to travel with you is, we must, too, think of my presently absent companions and their desires as well as my need to do this relatively on my own. Since you have informed us that you have a home in Belthaar, we may, if time permits on both sides, call upon you there, if you are amiable in this. I would not offend a noble holy man such as yourself, but alas the hour grows late and we must return to our people and find some rest as dawn will come all too soon." Tairin placed the cup of wine on the low table and then stood, porridge in one hand and gracefully inclined her head to Bahram Khan. "May your sleep be peaceful, Priest Barham Khan. It was a pleasure to meet you." Tairin quietly gestured to Red to follow her lead and stand to leave. Tairin's movements were steady so it would not appear as if she were eager to leave nor showing disrespect.

Anhur defers to the big man, curious to see the ways of the desert folk. In the jungle, fires were usually for cooking for warring; here, the night brought bitter cold that was a real danger, and there was not so much wood freely available. But at least the air and the fuel were dry, so starting a fire would be much easier.

You are currently at the campsite - the Priest's tent is located about fifty feet from the water source, close the edge of one of the cliffs. All of the fires are clustered fairly close to the same water source. The guard house is also close to the water, too. Behind the guard house is a couple of beams set up with woven grasses like a roof to offer shelter for horses and camels. It is also where the dung and minor scraps of wood and brush is located for fires.

I'm going to put the reaction for the Priest on hold for a bit until I'm sure that you and Tairin are sure you don't want to spend a bit more time with him. It's cool with me either way, I just want to be sure before moving on.

And do not think I am so uncouth as to refuse your absent companions. Indeed, I should be equally pleased to have you all inside my House," he adds with an expansive gesture.

Tairin placed the cup of wine on the low table and then stood, porridge in one hand and gracefully inclined her head to Bahram Khan. "May your sleep be peaceful, Priest Barham Khan. It was a pleasure to meet you." Tairin quietly gestured to Red to follow her lead and stand to leave. Tairin's movements were steady so it would not appear as if she were eager to leave nor showing disrespect.

Bahram Khan stands with you both and seems distressed that you should leave. Yet, being a gentleman of refinement as well as an esteemed member of an ancient and holy religious order, he would never presume to bar you from leaving his tent.

"I am truly saddened that you may wish to leave me so soon; but I can blame no one but myself. Undoubtedly my boorish ways have hastened your departure, alas!" he adds with a pained voice.

"Yet what sort of host would I be if I did not offer you the gifts which you sought to obtain for your companions - meat and bread, yes?" he asks with a wide smile as the wisps of incense waft around him to obfuscate him somewhat beneath their gray veil.

"Yet it is a truth that your company was like a fountain of cool water for my parched soul, for it is been long that I have conversed with ladies of such refinement as you."

"Are you sure you do not wish to stay a while longer? At least until your friends have returned, perhaps?" he adds with a tender voice as he watches you both carefully, his hand gripping his staff a bit more tightly to help steady it in his hand.

To clarify - Would you like to stay for that meat and bread, or are you both sure you want to leave now?

"The gift was your fine company. Alas, we should not tarry as they will be waiting for us, I am certain, and I know my guard will be fretting. He did not accompany us for he wanted to set up camp and build a fire to be ready upon our return. I told him we would not be long and I would not see the men hunger longer than they have to. Once again, your hospitality has been most lovely. Good night, Priest Bahram Khan. May our respective passage to Belthaar be a smooth and swift one." Tairin elegantly inclined her head to their host and together with Red left his khayma and moved with steady, unrushed steps back toward the place where they had left Bjoern and Anhur (she did not rush in case the priest or his men were still watching them).

Last bit of Diplomacy upon their exit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

With the pot of bean porridge in one hand/arm, Tairin linked her other arm with Red's so they could walk closely and speak discreetly to each other. Speaking in very quiet Yar-Ammonite, Tairin instructed, "Let us return to camp and speak some more there, Sister." And then in a louder voice, she added, "Let us hope the men have finished work on the fire for the hour has grown late."

Tairin is opting to leave the Priest's tent.

RE Perception via Incense:

Based on your roll you assume that there's nothing really unusual, though it does seem a bit thicker when he stood up, but that’s probably just the sudden movement/rustling of clothes causing the smoke to rise up around him…

Re Cantrip:

None of things are poisoned in any way. They are completely mundane, though – in your opinion – the lentil porridge could have used more salt…

Your characters would not know it, but you have roughly 10 minutes “In-game” before your companions get back. You can opt to do something in that time, or you could simply wait by the fire until they get back and we fast-forward to that. Either way works for me…

Bjoern and Anhur: you’re already on the way back; if you’d like to do any RP on what you saw via the Spoiler as you’re returning, feel free to do so, too :)

If you’d like to use the time for bonding with each other, that’s also cool – I’ll move things forward to the next stage once you tell me you’re all ready to sleep for the night.

Anhur walked the sands quietly, keeping his senses on high alert for danger, whether far or near; whether beast or man. His spear struck down rhythmically and punctuated their footsteps as the two men ventured away from the camp. Ultimately the idea of vanishing beneath a canopy of darkness into stirred woods seemed more unwise than brave, so the two turned back and soon returned to the edge of the campfire lights.

Once there, they worked together to build a fire. They mostly worked silently, with no apparent glances to the other man. But Anhur studied the bigger man in silence, weighing his intentions, motivations, strength, and resolve.

After exiting the tent of the priest the two women wait for their companions to return. They notice the two guards and the nomads, but the unusual looking companion who was sitting with the nomads is also gone.

As they wait for their companions to return the guard outside the priest's tent is summoned and then enters the priest's tent. He has not come out yet.

When the two men return to camp Bjoern goes to work setting up his tent while Anhur merely watches, saying nothing.

No one begrudges either Bjoern or Anhur taking dried dung behind the guard house to make a fire, though they keep an eye on you as you work.

The younger guard seems suspicious of you both after you wandered the hills unseen, but he says nothing more about it. The older guard watches you thoughtfully, but also says nothing, his eyes grim.

Eventually the tent is set up, the fire made and Tairin and Bjoern are able to sleep within the tent. However, they are also free to converse or share details with each other before sleeping.

The time is now 10:30 PM - is there anything you wish to do before sleeping? If not, I'll fast forward until the next day...

As Tairin walked with Red and then waited for the men to finish, she pondered the interaction with the Susrahnite Priest. I think a nightwatch is sensible. Let me know which shift I am to take - I am not troubled over the time of night I am allotted." Moon Cycle
Weather Conditions: Hot, dry
Temperature: 68 F, or 20 C

The cold air of the night has seemed to have receded with the rising of the sun.

The two men who stood guard during the night have been replaced by two other men who you do not recognize. One of them seems to be a tall Northman with a thick, scraggly beard and a shaved head. He is at height with Bjoern, but older, and despite his massive frame he carries a heavy belly in front of him. You can hear him grunt or growl, but you discover that he cannot speak as his tongue was ripped out by corsairs when he was younger.

The other man looks like he may be Khazistan, but you are not sure. He seems to be less interested in guard duty and more interested in lounging in the shade of the guard house and playing a game of dice with his companion.

The nomads have left; the members of your company more experienced in traveling in the wild guessing they departed before the sun rose to get an early start.

The mysterious person who traveled with nomads is also gone, but you have not seen him since the night before.

The priest has also gone, or at least his tent has been collapsed and you can see the small group of camels and his guards heading out down the road that your companions had traveled on the night before. They look as if they are about a quarter mile down the road from you, but they are making better time on their camels than you could on foot and are clearly not waiting for you.

Seeing that you have woken up the guards playing dice stand up languidly and amble over to you.

”Pleasant mornings, travelers,” says the guard with what is clearly a Khazistani accent.

He glances at the sun above you and squints.

”I take it you will leave after breaking camp, yes? The weather will be hot – no doubt you’ll want water for your journey,” he adds, and despite his casual tone and attitude his movements are relaxed and fluid; his grace reminds you of a viper.

Survival Check DC 15 to predict the weather for today Can be used untrained:

The day is going to be windy, you’d think, and very hot. By noon the temperature will likely reach roughly 120 F or 49 C.

”The price is one gold piece for each skin of water,” he adds with a bright smile as he rests his hand casually on the hilt of his sword while the other guard lumbers up behind him and folds his heavy arms across his broad chest.

You're free to get water if you'd like it. Meanwhile, I assume you're going to head out? If you have no other specific plans for your trip then I'll assume you take the road to Belthaar and I'll move forward to the next point of interest; but feel free to take some time with RP in the meanwhile, if you'd like...

"You are the voice of reason and wisdom, Tairin of the Veils. I was more inclined to gut him like a fish. Not a good idea of course, but pleasant to contemplate. We should treat Bahram Khan with caution." replies She Who Knows on the way back to the fire.

Yes, I did take the pot of bean soup from you, if that is OK.

She Who Knows will take either the first or second watch, allowing Anhur to choose. While on watch she stands or sits, keeping a watch on the area around. She Who Knows does not seem bored in the least on watch, staring into the darkness, at the stars and the void between them and into the fire by turns as if communing with some nameless entity inhabiting all three.

In the morning She Who Knows passes around one of her waterskins, saying:-

"I suggest we all drink our fill before we leave. I will go and replenish any waterskins that need it. I will pay for these. We will need water more than coin on the road."

Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 1.

The inaptly named She Who Knows has no idea what the weather will be like and can scarcely figure out that it is not currently raining.

Red's voice cut through her reverie and Tairin chortled, "You are the first person to ever call me the voice of reason and wisdom, Sister. I like it - it amuses me in a most pleasant way." Tairin smiled at her fellow Yar-Ammonite. "All that circled talk with the priest hurt my brain. I am glad for the quiet so I may find my spark once again."

Yes, no problem. I just didn't want to play it out if it was the same pot. Thanks for clarifying. :)

"If Red is to take first watch, I will take the second, leaving Anhur the third and Bjoern the last. So it is settled."

---------------

Wasn't Bjoern on last watch before dawn? Wouldn't he have seen the early morning travellers leave and woken us? Just curious.

Having risen and felt the warmth of the early sun, Tairin used some of her water to wash her face and neck, and, clean her teeth before she brushed out her hair, cleaned her teeth and put her clothing to order. She righted the belongings in her pack and moved to her companions, nibbling on a dry date. She drank what water remained in her skin and greeted the two new well guards who approached them.

"Good morning, guards of the well. Yes, we will need our skins refilled this day, if you'd be so kind." As Red had offered to pay for the water this time, she merely handed over her waterskin to the woman with a smile and a polite "Thank you, Sister."

Diplomacy with new guards: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Survival (DC 15): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11 (Maybe a +2 to aid another?)

If the guards said it would be a hot day, then she could not readily contradict them.

"As the skins are filled, we should dismantle the tent and pack it away and be ready to leave as soon as we have our water. The sun is already growing hot."

Anhur stretched in the morning light. He brushed the sand from his robe idly, and to little effect. "The sun is bright in these lands." He remarked to no one in particular. While Bjoern fussed with the tent again, Anhur went to the most distant fire pit and gathered up some of the ashes. He then took whatever thing he carried in his sack and spread it out on the sand, almost as if cooking. Yet when he returned a few minutes later, he came with no breakfast.

"We will need food on our journey. I will hunt." Anhur declared. He allowed the strange Yar-Ammonite woman to fill his waterskin, and grunted in acknowledgement. He then gathered up his spears and looked toward the horizon. "The trees will have food." He stated confidently before checking the sky.

Quick Note via the Diplomacy Check:

While Diplomacy can definitely influence a person's mood, some people would cheat their own mother. That said; these guys are definitely being polite to you when they do the transaction, but you can tell it's only courtesy via your roll. The main thing is this: if you recall the price from last night you can tell they're overcharging you for the water - the price is nearly doubled since you dealt with the other guard. It's not a big deal, barely a few gold in difference for everyone in the group, but they're definitely not the same type of person as the guard last night.

Re Hunting and Survival Check:

This won't effect your odds at hunting later at all, but there was something else about your earlier journey to the woods which I can't share much via the low Survival Check here, but if you re-read the earlier spoiler regarding what you saw looking for firewood you may pick up some clues that could be useful in the journey in the days to come. You notice as you descend that there is a decent amount of scrub and brush on the hills down to the plains, but that quickly recedes to barely rock and dust and sand. Meanwhile, as you descend you also notice about half way down the trail that to your southwest there seems to be a clump of trees. You cannot tell how far south they range, but you notice that this meager set of trees expands east for about almost two miles.

During your walk you notice quickly that “road” is a bit too specific of a term. From what you can tell there are marker stones which are about three feet high and roughly two feet square placed every five hundred feet or so and under the blistering sun shining from the east as you journey it is not easy to spot them as you walk, but luckily you have not lost your way. This is largely, you think, because the road and marker stones seems to loosely follow a dry cut of earth which may have once been the bed of a stream or river; but now it is as dry as the desert around you.

You realize this dry stream bed had extended from the spur of the trees you had passed when you journeyed down the mountainside, but you quickly forget about it as you travel.

It is nearly noon and the sun has been shining hot in your faces and the temperature is rising. To your left and right you see little but an occasional crag of rock punctuating the dirt and sand, but as you continue to travel the heat is becoming harder to bear.

With the temperature now much hotter than it was at the start of the day, it occurs to you that finding some sort of place to rest for a few hours until noon has passed may be wise. Meanwhile, the heat is growing worse as you travel and there is a strong wind blowing from the north-east.

You have traveled roughly 3 hours since camp and have journeyed roughly 10 miles. I need everyone to make 3 Fortitude Saves at this time.

Very well; no worries.

Perception or Survival to find shelter/shade?

Roll both, if you'd like, I'll answer all rolls you'd like to try.

Meanwhile, try to make the rolls in Alphabetical Order, if possible (as in Perception followed by Survival) as this helps me when I'm reading them over.

For what it's worth; don't worry about waiting for me to tell you roll a Post. If you roll it and it's not needed, it won't matter. But if you need it but don't roll until I answer, then you end up waiting. So yes; post away, as well as any other checks you'd like to make if you think they'll help :)

Tairin heard Red through the message spell and replied in mouthed whisper, from her position beside Bear,

She Who Knows:
"A little; however I do not openly announce it, Sister."

Taking her full waterskin from Red, she declared, "Let us be on our way."

============

Tairin was glad for the veiled headpiece she wore as it kept the hot sun from readily burning her face and the top of her head. She kept the veil over her nose and lips so as to not swallow any red sand and dust.

In regular intervals (every 5 to 10 mins) , Tairin cast a Resistance spell on herself, Red and Bjoern, hoping to bolster hers and their natural protection against the searing heat. Anhur did not seem to be suffering from the rising heat, so she did not bespell him.

Okay, so I think it's okay for Red, Bjoern and Tairin to get the +1 on each Fort save by doing the above... Dain GM let me know if it is not.

Fort save with +2 for hot weather gear+1 Resistance: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Fort save with +2 for hot weather gear+1 Resistance: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Fort save with +2 for hot weather gear+1 Resistance: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

"I am not frail, but alike you, I do not frolic outside in the heat, day in and out," Tairin uttered to Anhur even as she felt like she was succumbing somewhat to the growing heat around her. "Yes, let us find some shelter away from the direct sun and heat."

From above the linen veil, Tairin's dark eyes scanned the surrounds for some place to rest and be spared from the hottest part of the day.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Dain GM, will you be rolling the non-lethal damage from failing a Fort save or do you want us to do that?

Tairin:
Seeing the mouthed message, She Who Knows nods unobtrusively.

With all these spoilered messages the guys are going to get awfully curious as to what is going on.

Fort save with +1 Resistance: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Fort save with +1 Resistance: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Fort save with +1 Resistance: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

She Who Knows has stowed her cloak and shirt in her backpack, continuing in her red dress and hide boots. This clothing is cool enough, but leaves her skin quite exposed to the sun. She Who Knows marches stoically but it is clear she is suffering from the heat and sun.

In response to Tairin's suggestion to seek shelter from the heat, She Who Knows replies through chapped lips "I too am suffering from the heat and sun. Finding a shaded place to rest and wait out the hottest part of the day is essential I think."

Perception to find shade or shelter: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

That makes good sense.

Anhur chuckled with obvious pride at the heat-stricken woman's remarks, but he said nothing; he was clearly assessing the environment.

Perception for obvious shelter: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Survival to find or create shelter: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

I'll be posting all results in Alphabetical Order to simplify things. That said; She Who Knows failed twice and Tairin failed three times. Both ladies are Fatigued and have taken Non-Lethal Damage

She Who Knows
2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

Tairin
3d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2) = 9

Sorry for delay; Paizo's been giving me problems. I'll be on again later tonight when I get home from work with more details.

She Who Knows Perception Check +2 from Anhur's Aid Check and +2 from Tairin's Aid Check 21

You notice about two hundred feet from the path there is a tall rock of unusual shape. On closer inspection you would guess that it may have been a statue to some forgotten person of great importance, but now the bulk of the statue is laying broken in the dust. However, the base that the statue was built upon is 20 feet square and roughly 10 feet high.

Survival Check via the Shade

By sitting on the western side of the pillar you're in the shade. Resting here will reduce the Temperature by about 20 degrees until roughly 2 PM (it should feel like roughly 90 degrees) - by then the sun will have moved over the pillar and star to descend to the west and the overall temperature will descend roughly 10 degrees per hour every hour.

This means that unless you want to camp on the eastern side of the pillar until 3 PM you'll need to make another Fortitude Save when you start to travel again as the overall temperature will have descended to about a little under 100 degrees; or you can press on at 2 PM to make more miles before sundown - but that just means everyone needs to make another Fortitude Save.

Remember, too; the ladies are Fatigued so their overland travel will be slower until that condition has passed.

I'll be giving my analysis on how the Cantrip for resistance later tonight but now I need to go - see you all tonight!

Struggling to concentrate between the heat and her fatigue, She Who Knows eyes fix on the broken statue, she extends her hand pointing and says:-

"There! A rock that size will cast a shadow large enough for us to shelter in."

Upon reaching the shade of the rock, She Who Knows removes her backpack and lies down. After a minute she reaches into her backpack for a waterskin, from which she drinks and wets her forehead.

The Paizo web site has been playing up recently. What time is it now?

To get to the rocks and set up camp and get rested it should be around Noon.

If your party rests until 2:00 PM and then head out you must make one more Fortitude Save. If you wait until 3:00 PM and head out you don’t need to make any more Fortitude Saves but your journey will start later. What’s your plan?

What happens if we fail another save?

She Who Knows wrote:

Since you rested for at least two hours if you leave at 2:00 PM then you'd each recover 2 Non-Lethal points, but when starting out again you'd have to make a Fortitude Save of DC 15; failing this would mean you'd lose another 1d4 of Non-Lethal damage and be Fatigued until it is healed.

If you wait until 3:00 PM you'd both be healed completely; neither of you would be considered Fatigued, and you'd not need to make another roll; the only issue is that you'd not get as far today as you might, but that may not be a big deal.

But then again, it might...
