How far can you throw a halfling? (in-game)

Rules Questions

Ok, so we're "in-game" and we are trying to determine if/how you can throw another person. We can't find it in the rules. we have a barbarian with high STR score and need to know how far he can throw another creature...

Any tips? How do you calculate distance...? CMB? CMD for the throwee?

Thanks

"An improvised thrown weapon has a range increment of 10 feet."

You would also take the -4 non-proficincy penalty, assuming you didn't take Exotic Weapon Proficincy (Halfling).

However you do realise that the once popular game "Halfling Tossing" has been outlawed in many civilised kingdoms by now?

Sure they say they don't want to be tossed when they're in civilized kingdoms, but when they need to get over a 45' chasm with their 20' movement rate while being chased by angry trolls they suddenly think Halfing Tossing is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Ok, so are you saying a halfling could be thrown 50 feet? What if the person doing the throwing is not as strong? What if a medium creature wants to "toss" another medium creature? Can a human toss a human? How would you determine distance? Damage (if any)?? etc... I can't find any rules for this...

Thanks!

There are no rules on it throwing people.

But there are some rules in the weapon section.

One on size, saying that an object two sizes smaller is a light weapon usually, one size smaller is one-handed (thats where the halfling go), and same size is two-handed.

So by that, you could toss a human as a two-handed improvised weapon.

I assume though that would require unconcious or cooperating humans.

Low strength means you have a crappy attack modifier and might miss the square you're aiming for.

Sounds like me and our other GMs may need to house rule it. You'd be surprised how often it happens in our games...

Thanks for all the help!

Is it only halflings or gnomes and dwarves too?

I would say either buy potions of fly, have a wand of reduce person to shrink them even smaller (reducing mass) and ensure they have feather fall ring too etc etc.

As for the action, STR/Mass of person thrown. The heaviest weapon on the CRB is 15lb yeah. The pre-req for TWO-Handed Thrower is STR15. I would say a base of STR18 to throw 30lbs two handed. Make a Ranged attack DEX for accuracy -4 vs AC5 and then a STR check to determine distance. Every +2 over DC18 gets you +5ft. This is all based on a 30lb (assuming reduced person.)

I ignored the rules entirely and just looked up the world record for 16-lb hammer toss (just under 90 meters). You then want to scale according to weight. A generous ruling is a linear relationship (a 48-pound item could be thrown 30 meters), while a stringent ruling is inverse square (a 48-pound item goes 10 meters (1/9 distance)).

Figure a STR 18 human can throw a 50-pound halfing at least 30' in a hammer-style toss, and probably closer to 60'. But accuracy is going to be terrible.

And yep, we had our barbarian hurl the party gnome across a chasm, with the help of Feather Fall to get more distance.

Pretend they are a gnome.. then it's easy.

You count from the first place they hit (normally the mark their nose leaves on the ground)... though you should get bonuses if you can skim them...

Hurling, Lesser (Ex)

Benefit: As a full-round action while raging, the barbarian can lift and hurl an object up to one size category smaller than herself with both hands or two size categories smaller with one hand as an improvised weapon with a range increment of 10 feet. This inflicts damage as a falling object plus the barbarian’s Strength bonus. This damage is halved if the object is not made of stone, metal, or similar material. This is a ranged touch attack, and the target may attempt a Reflex save (DC 10 + 1/2 the barbarian’s level + the barbarian’s Strength modifier) for half damage. The barbarian may apply Power Attack to this attack as a one- or two-handed weapon, as appropriate.

If the Barbarian in question is medium, a halfling is one size category smaller... B-)
