My favorite...? Photoshop (GIMP for free). There's a ton of great tutorials on youtube you can look at to learn, and the skill you get from it goes far beyond mere town maps.

If that's not your speed, then I suggest campaign cartographer. There is a robust community that supports it, and it is fairly user friendly.

Hope that helps!

For your players who post using Android phones/tablets, I highly recommend the Clipper Plus and User Dictionary Manager apps.

Very cool suggestions. I'm gonna have to check those out!

just to be sure your players aren't being cheeky

Hahaha... I understand that, but I'm lucky that we play on a closed forum and all the players are close friends. Cheating is not really in their wheelhouse.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm gonna take a look at these options and see if any make sense for our group!

And yet you missed that the OP's game is not using the Paizo forum.

Thank you for that.

I really appreciate the posts. I suppose our biggest issue is that most of us update from our phones, and that makes it a little harder to do anything complex. After talking to the players, I ended up creating a sticky thread in story's forum category that I will update anytime someone's HP changes.

I use a free forum host called forumotion.

I run a homebrew play-by-post on my own forum for some friends because we don't get enough time to play in real life and we all like the format and the RP opportunities it presents.

One of the things I'm having trouble with is tracking dice rolls, statuses, HP, nonlethal, etc... all the crunchy bits that the game needs in the background.

So, preface set... Here's the question:

What do you use to track dice, HP damage, statuses, etc?

I'm especially interested in the HP damage stat because that is what I'm having the most trouble with keeping clear to all the participants.

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on how to accomplish a goal. I want to build a necromancer similar to the one from Diablo2. He could raise up undead minions to fight for him, curse his enemies, and protect himself with bone armor, and some poison abilities.

I have looked at the Undead Lord archetype for the cleric, but that doesn't quite do what I'm looking for. Also, a summoner might work... I looked at the broodmaster archetype, but again, it doesn't cover what I really want.

Here are some essential ingredients that I MUST have:

Skeletal Minions - at least three if not a few more... The diablo2 version had 8 at max capacity.

Ability to absorb/drain energy or vitality from opponents and transfer to self, or use to buff minions. Also, should include ability to poison/curse opponents with baneful spells or special attacks.

Perhaps I've missed something or perhaps I need to build it myself from scratch... I'm just curious if anyone else has tried something like this and what you ended up with.

Thanks,
-mb

Sounds like me and our other GMs may need to house rule it. You'd be surprised how often it happens in our games...

Thanks for all the help!

You would also take the -4 non-proficincy penalty, assuming you didn't take Exotic Weapon Proficincy (Halfling).

However you do realise that the once popular game "Halfling Tossing" has been outlawed in many civilised kingdoms by now?

Ok, so are you saying a halfling could be thrown 50 feet? What if the person doing the throwing is not as strong? What if a medium creature wants to "toss" another medium creature? Can a human toss a human? How would you determine distance? Damage (if any)?? etc... I can't find any rules for this...

Thanks!

Ok, so we're "in-game" and we are trying to determine if/how you can throw another person. We can't find it in the rules. we have a barbarian with high STR score and need to know how far he can throw another creature...

Any tips? How do you calculate distance...? CMB? CMD for the throwee?

Thanks

Awesome! Haha, I love that book of a post that Vicon wrote, and the bullette thing is hilarious! Thanks all!!

Cool ideas. I kinda thought Prestidigitation might be a good RP spell. I like that it can be very creative. Thanks for all the input. Anyone else want to add to this? I'd love to hear how others have used it!

Ok, so I get cantrips and I have been looking at Mage Hand and Prestidigitation. Mage hand is pretty self-explanatory, but Prestidigitation is a little more open to interpretation...

I would like to ask my fellow players/GMs in the community:

"How have YOU used Mage Hand or Prestidigitation in game?"

"Why would you recommend _______ as a cantrip over other options?"

I get 5 cantrips for the level I'm at. I only have one more cantrip slot left and I'm trying to decide if this is worth it. My current 4 selections are Daze, Detect Magic, Message, and Read Magic.

Thanks for any input y'all have!

PS - This may be obvious, but I have to choose from the Sorcerer/Wizard spell list.

Greatness! Thanks for the assist!

Thanks for the info... another quick question... how do you disperse/destroy the swarm if weapons can't damage it? If there is no magic caster?

Hey all,

We're dealing with a centipede swarm... our fighter got them all over him (they're in his space) and our barbarian wants to attack the swarm... how do we resolve this? Straight roll vs AC? what if the barb misses? any risk to the fighter?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hey all,

Let me start by saying, I'm a PF noob. However, I'm not a RPG noob. I love the work that has been done, and I kneel in humility before your greatness at navigating the ins and outs of this system. Personally, the traditional mutli-classing doesn't appeal to me, but I love the MCAs.I have a character concept in mind, and I would like to entreat you for some assistance...

Basically, my concept is a half-elf that ran away from home at a young age and was forced to learn to survive in the wilderness. She ends up learning to fight and cast spells to ward intruders from her turf and help people or animals that are in trouble. (Druid) When she's cornered she lashes out with an animalistic rage that can sometimes get out of control (i.e. Barbarian's Wild Rager).

Could someone help me combine a Druid and a Barbarian with the druid as the primary class and the Barbarian as secondary? I saw the Spirit Warrior, but I'd like more of the focus on the Druid side... i.e. casting and stuff. The Land Master piqued my interest, but I don't think it's "just right"...

Perhaps you could help me work this out? And, if it yields a cool concept to add to your site, well... that's great for everyone!

Thank you for considering!

Hey all, I'm MadGrady's other GM friend. :)

Coming over from a very different system, this has been a huge learning experience. I've been playing GURPS for a long time (almost 20 yrs) and PF has been an adjustment to be sure. PF offers a great deal of focus, which is something we were looking for, but there are a lot of options within each class focus. Some of our questions come from being used to one thing and adjusting to something new.

I'd like to say a big "thank you" to everyone contributing to this and other threads. Knowing there is a friendly community that we can come to with our questions is a boon for newbies to the system.

Thanks!
